Review Saperavi - Winnipeg

What’s great place to enjoy a meal. We had the Georgian supper and everyone was quite pleased and satisfied. Very friendly and helpful service. I highly recommend.

We just heard about this restaurant through friends not to long ago and we decided to give it a try. Staff was helpful while navigating us through the menu with suggestions and sizes of dishes. We decided to eat family style which gave Amy’s more dishes to try. Food came out promptly smelling wonderful and presented fabulously! Great food, atmosphere and people!

Would give it a 3.5 stars. Cozy dining vibe. The male owner and the female server are very nice, been checking us up regularly. We ordered three dishes, the cheese mushroom is a big surprise. We love it so much! The chicken is not bad. Flavour of sauce is very matched with rice, and we had unlimited access to the rice. Though I am personally not a fan of the way they cook the chicken but my friends feel okay with it. Dumplings are a big disappointment. 18 dollars for 4 tasteless medium sized dumplings is definitely gonna make you regret, especially being an Asian myself I just wanna cry it a river lol.

Great Georgian restaurant! The food was great. Service was great. Food prep was a little slow but worth the wait. Lovely atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating.

Authentic Georgian restaurant in Winnipeg that's a must try! Good selection of beer/cocktail/wine, but only one option of red and white in glass. We tried what our server suggested for us: kachapuri and chikmeruli and one last dish I can't remember the name of... Anyways, they were all so good! It tasted like authentic home made Georgian food with so much flavor. Price is reasonable for the quality of the food and portion was perfect for two people (an appetizer and two main). We finished everything there was and felt pretty stuffed. Definitely will be coming back to try other things on the menu. Highly recommend 👌

We went out for a date night and the food did not disappoint. The food is fantastic, the staff is very friendly and very knowledgeable. It's pricey but worth it.

This was my second time at this Winnipeg restaurant. In terms of ambiance and service this place is 100% for the food… it was good, but just felt a little underwhelmed. I think the pickles came pre made and the Lagman though well flavoured had smaller noodles then I was used to for this dish. I plan to come back, but will need to do a lot of research about what to eat.

Extremely Poor service where servers didn’t bother to remove unused or empty plate, glasses. Table full of mixed cutlery and cups. Waiter came maybe twice to our table after bringing food and was very out of what was going on at our table. We asked for refill of drinks which never happened. Small portions for the price they charge and poorly arranged. Food is dry and absolutely far from true and authentic Georgian cuisine. Nothing close. Crazy long waiting time for the food to get prepared. Overall ruined dinner. Never go there and save your hard earned money. Not worth a cent.

I have tried quite a few things on the menu and have never been disappointed. Food is amazing, staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is very inviting. It's on my list of favourite restaurants.

Definitely not going back to this place! Bad experience!
Waiting time to serve food was horrible! I understand it was
a busy night when we came. But waiting for the food 30 to 40 mins
on every course that's inexcusable! No one advise us on what was going on. We ended up leaving before they serve the main course because we we're so upset. Bad customer service! There's a lot of good places to
eat in the city. Don't go here. Might ruined your date with your special someone like what happened to us.

Just had a very lovely dinner there with friends. The service was excellent -- very friendly, funny waitress. The food was piping hot (how often does that happen in a restaurant?) and very well spiced. I had the lagman (a lamb stew with noodles) and it was delicious. Everyone enjoyed their meal and the price was very reasonable.

Pretty large portion sizes, and the food is quite tasty. Enjoyed meeting here with friends. Trust the waiters because they’ll lead you in the right direction! The meatballs for example, were definitely filling and could’ve been shared amongst our whole group!

While looking for a place to eat on Saturday night, Saperavi was recommended to me by a close Friend. Although I was skeptical after not eating Georgian food before, I was very impressed by the meal. The cheese bread with hot sauce was recommended to us. It was an excellent appetizer.

The salmon and chicken shashlik arrived shortly after and were delicious as well. As a bonus, they are also the only place I know of in town that had both Erdinger and Delirium on tap.

Overall it was an amazing experience and I will certainly be back.

I am rating it 1, because of lack of trust and satisfaction, not the food. I am not overly fussy at all. Went there a lot last summer, but stopped when an order was argued about. I definitely ordered lavash, but was told I did not. Then was told that he would not charge for the wrong item. When the bill came, we were charged and since he was nowhere in sight, but a waitress came to collect payment, we paid for the item. The food is good, although some a bit overpriced and some things are a bit overcooked. I had an incident with a large walnut shell that i mentioned, at one visit. My last order was pick-up, and upon coming home, I found my soup inside tin foil, which was then placed in the plastic bowl. I assumed someone in the kitchen told the helper to place soup in bowl and then wrap the bowl in tin foil.....these mistakes can happen, but it was a mess getting the runny soup out of the tin foil. I was shocked though when I ate the beet Pkhali, and felt an object in my mouth. I went back personally and brought in the object. The owner found the soup incident did in fact happen, but seemed unaware of the 'nature' of the object in Pkhali and spent 10 minutes looking at it. Since his cook denied it being from the kitchen, it was obvious that he believed that version....... AND THAT is what bothered me. If it was my restaurant and someone presented such an item, I would bend over backwards and not make it seem that 50% off my food is a good deal. I will not be going back to get my 50% off. There is no excuse to make the customer feel they have to defend finding foreign objects in food. I would never have posted this if not for several times where it seemed they were right and I was wrong, but this time it was no small thing. Accidents happen, but this item was not related to food at all. I'm not happy with the long humming and hawing to arrive at a reduction on my meal. Funny thing is, in hindsight, he never bothered to even offer to refund the measly amount that I spent on that pick-up.Thing is, the Phkali was one of my favorite things combined with the lavash.

Saperavi has good ambience and friendly service but it was not a great experience based on our menu choices. The highlight of our meal was the Khachapuri Imeruli which is a cheese filled baked flat bread. I would not recommend the Georgian Kebabi as it was underwhelming and the Chakhokhbili was not at all what we expected. It's description says it's a traditional Georgian dish of stewed chicken, peppers and spices. To our surprise the stewed chicken and peppers were actually eight small chicken wings sprinkled with some spices and served in a clay dish. The chicken wings had good flavor but not nearly tasty enough to justify spending $19 for eight small chicken wings. I would not rush back to try this restaurant again.

Cannot say enough about Saperavi. True comfort food bursting with flavour. Can’t go wrong with anything on the menu but the Georgian style dumplings and any of the breads are a definite cant miss! Staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable always offering to help with food selections. Recommend bringing a group along as it is larger tapas style and the more friends you bring, the more dishes you can try! Will definitely be back and will be recommending it to friends!

Dined in once with my wife and ordered with Skip the other time, so definitely can see a pattern there. Khachapuri Adjaruli is expensive but totally worth it. Very tasty. Lavash is also very good especially when hot. Wanted pork shashlik but they were out both times. So had some chicken. Shashlik was excellent both times with their specialty sauce, but the portion is too small. It must be noted that when we dined in, I ordered a regular size portion and got exactly 3 medium size chunks of meat. When I ordered a delivery, I asked for a "large" portion and got exactly the same amount of meat. Moving on to dessert, I ordered a an 8 dollar "Napoleon" cake and was presented with a tiny triangle of dough with barely any creme in the middle. Not what a Napoleon cake should taste or look like. Was very disappointed.
To sum it up - food is mostly tasty but the portions are...frugal.

This must be the best Georgian view outside of Georgia itself! The Khinkali (stuffed dumpling) has the right amount of spice ,and we love the chicken dish and cheese and egg bread - the latter is must try for those new to Georgian cuisine, The staff are friendly and helpful, and the wine was great!!!

It is fairly unusual to find Georgian cuisine outside of Georgia. We were pleased to find Saperavi. We ordered chicken dishes, cheese bread, salads, bread and white wine. It was delicious and a good choice.

Saperavi is a good choice and one we would enjoy time after time. Highly recommended.

We came as a group of 4 friends to check out the first Georgian restaurant on the prairies, not quite knowing what to expect. The menu looked very interesting so we opted for the Georgian dinner for 4 for 170$. I am not kidding that we couldn't believe how many different food items were brought out for us to try! 2 different kinds of soup, 2 stuffed breads, meat skewers, a delicious greek yogurt chicken dish, eggplant dish, ratatouille, veal stew, bean stew with corn bread... and I'm likely forgetting something. The food was delicious and as you can see, an amazing variety. There are walnuts in many of the dishes, so probably not the place to come if you've got a nut allergy. The service was so friendly and amazingly quick considering how many dishes the kitchen was cooking! The beer selection was impressive. We would all certainly go back and recommend to this lovely restaurant to others.

Early dinner on Canada Day, service OK. Food not so much. We ordered mushrooms stuffed with cheese, told by waitress it's a portion for two, we got four mushrooms. Three small ones and one big. The big mushroom wasn't as fresh as the small ones. Filled with plain feta cheese, I didn't detect any other seasoning at all. Very plain. Also tried dish with aubergines, advertised as spicy, it was quite contrary, very plain with no trace of eggplant. Lots off dill. Very disappointing $ 16.00 dish. Not returning.

Amazing restaurant with a lounge and patio as well. Food is delicious and the staff are friendly and more then willing to suggest food pairings! I recommend the Georgian wine!
