Review One Great City Brewing Co. - Winnipeg

Kim Emeterio
Good beer selection. The food came out quicker than expected which is always good. The sandwiches we ordered were pulled pork and korean bbq chicken which were above average. I would say the beer soup was really tasty! Also, the atmosphere were pretty chill on a Friday night.

tried their veggie burger and tropical seltzer, it was decent but none of the flavours really stood out in the burger Update: Lowering my rating to two stars since one of the managers got upset that I think their food was decent. Didn't hear anything from the management and all of us sudden they just started to come after me and my work. Talk about unprofessionalism, definitely won't be coming back to this establishment

Great food & great atmosphere! Lots of seating and tables. Cool micro brew options too with several flavours. Try the Lambwich!

Great food and great beer! What a fantastic spot to have in Winnipeg. Stopped in for a quick beer and lunch. Not sure why we had never stopped in before. The Pork Tostadas were light and fresh, yet more than enough for lunch. Very good. The Lambwich was outstanding and the fries were simply delicious and cooked to perfection. Overall this was an outstanding experience and I highly recommend a visit if you have not already been.

Love this place. Been three times now and the service is always awesome and the food is very good. Whether it's the nachos, Chicago Pizza, or pulled pork Sammie, you won't be disappointed. As for the beer, they're all great. I'm not a fan of the dark brews, but the one I had tonight was smooth and delicious!

Pleasant surprise in the space and layout. Awesome atmosphere and service. Great cocktails and food. Beautiful patio. Nice to have options other then beer! 10/10 on the sangria. Would return again!

Was a little loud, but food was really good and drinks were nice tasting. Had a sangria and a pulled pork sandwich which was delicious! Am gluten sensitive and they had good options for foods, my friend is vegetarian and was able to find options also.

A great spot! The food was amazing and so were the beers! This place is worth checking out!

We went in yesterday for a some local fare. After the long walk past the brews being made we were seated to a great looking restaurant. Our server was incredibly helpful with the menu and drink options. We ordered a flight of 4 house made beers. All 4 were good. We each had our favorite. I ordered the chicken and waffles. My gf ordered steak tacos. Unfortunately the tacos were no longer on the menu. We were given a old menu. She then proceeded to order the pork tacos and beer cheddar soup. Both came out in a timely manner and great presentation. The soup we shared and had great beer flavour. The pork tacos had great flavour with a touch of heat. The chicken was not greasy, lacked something to kick it up notch. Still good. The waffle was good. Definitely will going back to try the other beers and appys.

I cannot day enough about our service! Ellie was probably the friendliest and attentive server we have had in some time. I had to send my burger back not because of anything other than the gluten free bun was extremely dry. This happens with gluten free breads. Not only did we get apologies from our server but the manager also advised he would tell his supplier. They remade the burger. It was delicious. Will definitely go back again and again

I've been visiting microbreweries in various provinces. I have to say that this place deserves to be listed near the top of any I've been to. We started with a flight of samples and then of course I had a pint of the milk stout. Outstanding. Then they just happened to put on a keg of their cream ale a little later. I decided to give that one a try and I certainly did not regret that! That silky beverage is one of my new overall favorites! The atmosphere of the establishment is very unique and we had the BEST server. Ellie is so friendly and accommodating as well as knowledgeable about the menu items. We planned to visit another brewery after this one but since we were enjoying it so much there, we decided to stay for the evening. Prices are very attractive too: average $5/pint. I most definitely will return if I get the chance. Thanks for a fun evening!

We came here for my dad's birthday on the 24th of June. The atmosphere was great and service was excellent. We all agreed the food was delicious! I had the chicken and waffles which were awesomely good. The beers were just as good, I recommend getting the flight so you can figure out which beer you like the best. I highly recommend this place!

When we arrived we were greeted promptly as the setting was great. Our beer came quickly and it was quite good. Unfortunately, we ordered the Charcuterie Board and it was very disappointing. Firstly, it was small for the price. This would be forgivable if the items on it were great, and they were not. We were served a decent prosciutto. There was another shaved meat that tasted like lunch meat. It was not edible in and of itself. There was a venison option and a pate option but we were not served any bread/crackers/crostini to utilize the spreadable meats.....you can’t just eat a blob of meat spread on its own. So we asked if the bread product was missing and the server wasn’t sure it came with one. She disappeared to the kitchen and when she returned told us “sorry, it’s being made now.” When she brought us the bread it was clearly just a few pieces of garlic bread (likely for another item on the menu) that was cut in triangles. It did NOT pair well with the charcuterie items. It’s so disappointing because charcuterie is so easy to do. We did send the platter back and were not charged for the charcuterie. We did appreciate that. We also had the nachos and unfortunately they were very lack lustre. I would not order food at this establishment again. Perhaps it was just an off-day and we didn’t happen to like what we ordered. It’s too bad! We loved the place itself. Overall, the servers, setting and beer were great. The food was not.

I found the staff to be friendly and knowledgeable, with everything arriving in a timely manner. Enjoyed trying out the beer flight. The best part was definitely the off-menu vegan dish that was prepared for me. Only complaint that it wasn't larger, because it was so tasty. Hope you add it to the menu (or will make it for me again when I return :) )! My friend tried the chicken sandwich and was thoroughly impressed as well.

My husband and I popped in for late lunch/ early dinner tuesday july 31/18 - our server Taylor was friendly and helpful. Our beers were good - and our server provided us with a small sample of another beer she thought my husband would like (and he did) but we were really there for the food!! Fantastic. Had the roasted brussel sprouts , beet salad , hangar steak and ribs. (we were hungry) The chefs they have there know what they are doing. Sides of carrots and potatoes and beans were delicious too. Really excellent meal and service.

We went to see what it's all about and we're sweetly surprised! From the unique furniture to the server and everything in between we had a great night. We shared the mushroom turnovers plate - so very good, and we also had the falafel wrap but as a salad instead. They were very accommodating and it also was delicious, flavourful and full of different great tastes! We didn't go for dessert but we're very tempted.

We went for dinner and drinks with friends. First time here. Food was very good and they have a very nice variety of great beers. I would highly recommend to everyone to give this place a try.

My friend suggested checking out this place the other night before a movie at Polo Park. I was super impressed. I loved how modern the decor was and how the kitchen was clean and visible. The staff were friendly and I liked how there were many beers to choose from and offered in either 10 or 16 oz. sizes (the 10 oz was perfect to try a few different ones). The menu was locally inspired and was prepared fresh and at a higher level than your run of the mill pub. I had the Manitoba pickerel with fresh cut fries. It was fantastic and not greasy whatsoever. My only suggestion (and it's minor) is to add in-house made chicken fingers/strips to the menu with those same fries! I love chicken fingers! Overall, I would absolutely go back. Check it out!

The steak frites was excellent, and the beer was very good as well. I'd heartily recommend this place to anyone.

I'm happy to have a place that makes me feel at home. I have only tried the meat balls served here and the I gotta say it's the best I have ever tasted, even in L.A JUST maybe. The guys and gals here are cool to talk to and the open area floor plan of this place is great. The house Brewed beer is of great quality and I can't wait to taste the coming brews that the owner has planned in the coming months . Big thumbs up. #myspot #awesome

Great food, beer and atmosphere! The beer cheese soup is excellent! I would highly recommend visiting.

Very Happy with OGC. Great atmosphere, staff, and management. Some of the best beers in the city (The Belgian is my favourite), and a solid food menu. I only forsee OGC getting better as they grow.

My new favourite watering hole. Great beer, tasty food, very comfortable seating and the staff are super friendly.

Amazing experience at this place! Food, atmosphere, and service were just awesome...they just didn't have most of their beers ready for sale yet. That's my only complaint. Awesome place for a beer and a bite to eat!

Nice place to hang out with friends. Good brewery.
The staff is very friendly.
The best part was that the food was served in minutes. It was surprising. It felt that they already knew what are we going to order and it was hot and fresh.
Went on a Saturday afternoon and tried a flight and had some amazing wings and pizza!!

Accommodated a party of 9 on only a few hours notice on a Friday evening. Service was excellent, prices super reasonable and food was fantastic. We picked this place after much debate over where to go due to varying food allergies and intolerances, location and cost. All 9 of us agreed that we’d be back. Great job!
The Hangry Accountant
Came to the patio to celebrate my sister graduating from her university program. The patio is a comfortable space and not too noisy despite being right next to the street. The service was good and the food was excellent! Everyone was happy with all food and drinks which is rare with a large party. Worth mentioning is the special beer they had which I believe was called the Dinosour and served with a Jenna Rae Cake's macaron. Both the macaron and beer were really good plus I love a good collaboration. Will be back.

The roasted brussels sprouts appetizer had a nice flavour but the inclusion of green apple was a bit unnecessary and some of the sprouts were more stem than sprout.

I had the butter chicken as a main. Good flavour and a nice ratio of gravy to rice/naan. Portion size was ideal.

For beer, you can’t go wrong with the Queen’s Best bitter. Also tried the 11.3% Belgian trippple threat, which was pretty harsh tasting at first but easy to get used to.

The beer bumped this trip to 4 stars for me. Would go again, I’m curious to try the rest of the menu.

It’s easy to stay home, order Skip and call it a night, but where’s the fun in that? One of our favourite things to do together is try fun, new places to dine in that we both have never tried before. One of those places is One Great City, located in the Madison Square strip mall on Ness Ave. right beside the BMO.

The beer and food are both fantastic. The staff are great, very careful when dealing with allergies even bringing out sheets with lists of ingredients used in the dishes. Have visited a few times and will return!
Yer Lil' Cannoli
I've had the lamb sandwich with roasted Brussels sprouts, smoked meatballs with marinara and Korean chicken wings. I recommend this place and the food is really delicious.

Had the Mushroom Turnovers (Crisp turnovers, sautéed king oyster mushrooms, broccolini, and goat cheese fondue.) Only recommended if you have a small appetite. Three turnovers, which were more pastry than mushroom - disappointing. Two king oyster mushrooms, which were really salty. Definitely not a meal for the average hungry person. About half as much food as I expected. Will never order again. $16. Group of around 20. From the time we sat down until the food arrived, about 50 minutes.

Had wings and a salad. I know you don’t make friends with salad, but I think you would honestly have a chance with this one. House salad was fresh and crisp. Wings were a little on the small side and expensive, but hell, the beer was made right inside this place. Loved it.
The Heavy Hitters
Upscale twist on bar food, including one of tastiest veggie burgers in the city. Beer soup and nachos are also Incredible. Not your average pub/brewery. Nice selections of beer on tap. Service has always been pleasant and efficient although we have not tried to go at peak times.

The Swizzle Styx dined here this week and it was great. We loved the decor and the atmosphere, this is a great spot! For a brewery the food here is awesome, we tried several appetizers and they were all excellent. We tried a couple of flights of beer as well which were very good but I thought the beer could definitely be colder. Service was ok, not great but I would definitely recommend trying out this cool place.
Darryl Mcmunn
Terribly obnoxious waitress + below-average food + unreasonable prices = One Great LETDOWN. At least the beer was slightly colder than room temperature. I would strongly recommend going to PEG BEER CO. if you truly want to have a good time, good food and great staff.
Melody
Loved the atmosphere of this place! I tired the fried chicken sandwich which was delicious with a hint of kick in it. For beer I opted to try the milk stout, which I surprisingly really enjoyed. My second drink choice was the margarita which was very tasty!
Hellospringroll
The beer is good but imo brazenhall and LBJ make better beer. Might be personal taste though. If you're new to the craft beer scene this is a good place to try new kinds of beer. It was pretty expensive food though an thats where they lose points for me. I ordered the chicken and waffles and there was only 3/4 of a waffle and two chicken thighs. Like literally the waffle was cut into quarters and there were only 3 pieces. The "maple gravy" was just maple syrup which is fine but like...just say maple syrup then...chicken wasn't really crispy enough it was more like light batter tempura so it didn't really hold up well with the sauce. Won't be back for the food thats for sure, also who charges 14$ for one pound of wings? Seriously?

After being told there would be a 20 minute wait for a table we waited 55 minutes. This would have been only a minor irritation but once we were led to the back corner where we were seated there were three empty tables around us. I was furious and would have left if I wasn't so hungry. The food was standard pub fare.

Edit:
To top it off, One City Brewing Company responded to this review many weeks later to call me a liar since they checked their video footage... Not knowing when I was there or what I look like...

Another brewery and casual dining place just opened this year in Winnipeg. We were at this place last Friday and we were seated right away. We ordered for the pale ale and the extra special bitter beers and the so hot we stole 'em chicken house made buffalo wings with gravy and ranch dip as starter-taste good and hot! Afterwich, we ordered for the main- the chicken and waffles with maple gravy and butter pickles for my friend and I orderd their burger as part of the Le Burger week- the Italian Fat Boy with provolone cheese, veal parmesan, garlic ioali on a fresh bun and it was juicy and delicious. We also tried their American Blonde Ale beer and wasn't bad. Overall, we did enjoy the place. Fast friendly service. We'll be back.

One Great City is an excellent place for casual dinning and drinks.

The food is amazing, and everything except the ketchup is made in house. The burger is one of the best in the city, and the meat balls will change your life.

The beer they brew is good and there is a lot of variety, but my favourite drink is the "One Great Smash", it tastes like a sour soother.

Support local independent businesses!

Visited this place a couple weeks ago with friends. It's a beautiful space - I love being able to see the beer being processed as you walk through to your table.

We tried some flights of beer - surprisingly liked the Milk Stout beer! As for food we tried the soups, chicken and waffles, pulled pork and fries. The soups were delicious - the beer cheese soup and garlic and potato were the soups of the day. Pulled pork and fries were amazing, and the chicken was good, but my friend found her waffle to be dry. All in all, we'll be returning to try more!

My husband and I shared a flight of beer, and we shared a variety of appetizers and a salad with him, my sister-in-law and her partner. Everything was good, and I had no complaints. We don't live nearby, but I would stop in again if I was in the area.

It was a quick visit and I did not really eat (had 2 chicken wings from a friends plate). So, I will add food once I've had some.

As a craft beer / restaurant it is nice and big, but a tad noisy due the the cavernous environment. Some sound abatement would go a long way here. Sounds like I'm whining but we all were having a hard time hearing each other when the place filled up, but all of that doesn't really matter because it's really about the beer, and the beer is good, really good. Currently only a partial selection is ready and on tap. So once the full line up is active OGC is going to get even better!! I'm a bit of a hop head, but OGC is more of an ale house at this point. I have to say it was a nice break from the over hopped craft beer scene (that I love) to stop in somewhere new and have a different taste experience. (All due respect to Little Brown Jug where hops are not a priority either and 1919 is top quality and a sincere nod to Belgian Ale). At OGC I enjoyed the Queens Bitter and the Monkey Trail Ale, I really hope I got that right as I enjoyed a few ;-) both are solid suds!

OGC is certainly worth a stop if you are into craft beer. The busy Polo Park location should make this a hot spot in short order.

Since originally writing this I have now visited OGC for food too! It was great. I had the roast lamb sandwich with a salad. Only slightly negative was the house dressing on the salad was a little bland, and a little too oily.

I had the IPA and it was very solid. Also nice to see the Growler bar up and running, I filled a couple up on my way out and enjoyed OGC all weekend on my deck! That was awesome.
