Review Thompson House - Windsor

This place is super tasty and it’s definitely got the pub feel. If you enjoy a quiet, spacious pub this isn’t the place. Every time I’ve gone it’s busy and the live music adds to that loud atmosphere. If you want a pint and some good food it’s a great spot to visit. My favourite dish and the reason I go is their spin on the Big Mac Burger. Juicy, just the amount of right sauce and perfect crunch with the toasted bun and fresh lettuce! The fish and chips is also good but beware - some days it’s mostly breading! The side salad I ordered I was stoked for but unfortunately it had no flavour.

It was nice to be out again after the long we've had. I felt save, the health procedures was in place and everyone was respectful. The food was good and the environment was even better. The prices were a bit higher for the quality and type of food, but at this point, with how businesses have been reeling, I understand.

Went for my birthday this past Tuesday. Drinks and food were amazing. Our server went beyond and surprised me with a piece of amazing carrot cake ! I didn’t get his name. Wish we would have. He was awesome. All three of us enjoyed and will be back.

Nice and clean. Friendly staff. I thought the food was ok. Fries were very tasty with a big portion. Friend got fish and chips which looked amazing. I thought it took some time to get the food, however I was chatting with a friend. It’s definitely worth another visit.

Wanted to quickly share how disappointing my last experience at The Thompson House was. We arrived around 12:45 for lunch as a group of 4. There was only a small handful of other patrons in the building and most had already eaten, as plates were still on their tables. We ordered 2 sandwiches, a burger, and the lamb stew and grabbed some beers. More patrons began to enter the restaurant over the next hour, none of which waited any longer than 20 minutes to receive their food. At 1:40 I finally asked our waitress where our meals were, and she responded by saying, “some food takes longer to prepare compared to others.” I politely asked if they could hurry as we had been there for nearly an hour. Not even 2 minutes later, we watched as the same waitress came out of the kitchen with a double cheeseburger and a Ruben sandwich for a couple who had been seated just 20 minutes prior. These were 2 of the items we ordered, and were included in the ones that I was told take “more time to cook.” At this point it was 1:55 and we asked for the bill, as we could not wait any longer for our food. This is when the waitress admitted that they had lost the ticket and were putting a rush on our food, in essence coming clean that she had lied that our food was just taking longer too cook. The waitress came back with our bill and said the manager had removed 2 of the beers for the inconvenience. When we looked at the bill it still had all the food on it, and when we asked why this was the case, the waitress said they were packing our food up for us to take home. I explained that the point of eating in a restaurant for over an hour is to actually consume the meal that we ordered, not to bring it home and that we not only didn’t want to food any longer, but that we would not be paying for it. When she came back with our bill the 2 beers that were, “removed for the inconvenience” magically reappeared. We fully intended to buy all 4 of the beers, but found it not only rude of the manager/staff to include them again, but a bit cheap and tacky after originally removing them as an apology for their mistake. We politely paid the bill for the 4 beers and told the waitress, that these things do happen and that we hoped the rest of her shift went well. We do not plan on returning to the Thompson House because of this issue, and are still a little amazed at the overall lack of problem solving skills exemplified by the manager. He did not even have the dignity to come out and apologize for the fact we had waited, at the point of paying for our meal, an hour and 15 minutes. To say that I have received better customer service and understanding from a fast food restaurant would be an understatement, as they at least take responsibility when an order is incorrect or try to make it right in some fashion. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone and feel that we were not only “shrugged off” as a problem for asking where our food was, but also lied to when we inquired about the status of our order. Windsor has enough stand out restaurants throughout the city, and I would recommend anyone try another restaurant, even the local Burger King, before sitting down and expecting a pleasant experience at the Thompson House. If Google allowed me to give a “zero-star” rating I would, however I guess a 1-star review will have to do.

I was truly disappointed. The food was great but the price that is double what its worth would have been acceptable if the service compensated for it. However, that was not the case. I could have spent half the price for the quality of the food elsewhere with much better service. I had to tell our waitress to remove our empty beer bottles and dishes over 30 minutes after we were finished because it was attracting flies. She was busy cleaning 4 tables after they left so she can get others to sit down. I was in the elite food service field to know the way things should be. Why bring us more beer when you didn't take our empty bottles or our plates away? I will never go there again. Over priced for the lousy service.

First time going to this place and it’s restored my faith in dining out. Lots of places are taking the piss on quality. Staff and food here are excellent. Irish nachos were awesome.

The food was very good. We went for lunch but the music was so loud and head banging we could hardly talk! Most of the people there were elderly not young crowd. The staff needs look at the clients and play appropriate music and not so loud. Very disappointed and will not go back.

We arrived Saturday evening at 9 and we're seated at 10:30. There was just two of us so this seems like an incredibly long wait. The bar service certainly needs more staff. The food was good. I just wanted a roast beef sandwich but the only way the waitress could understand this was for me to order the TH burger without the hamburger patty. As it was the sandwich was still delivered with the hamburger patty. I pointed this out to the waitress and she took it back to the kitchen. I get the impression that they just pulled the patty because the sandwich was put back together sloppy. There was no price break on the sandwich nor was there any extra beef. It was okay but I would probably not order it again unless they understood what a beef sandwich was. Very noisy inside but that is to be expected when they are busy. The restaurant really needs better signage at night because the place is easy to miss.

Deborah Blythe and my self Edgar Mailloux, been here before, decided that we should bring family and friends back again. The atmosphere services and food wasn't as good. IT WAS BETTER. The food is always hot the ceser salad is the best I've ever had. Chicken wings are on steroids, "BIG"!!! lol. I had the fish & chips awesome. Mac and cheese, unbelievable. Calamari, Mozzarella cheese sticks, WOW!! I've Never seen or had a bad meal out of the kitchen. It's an experience one can only describe. So go treet yourself. You're worth it!!!!

Kitschy retro-style trying to recreate an "olde British pub", which it does succeed at (think Disney World). First time visit and so ordered a cheeseburger, because if you can't do a cheeseburger properly... Two star review because they can't do a cheesburger properly. Covered in way too much BBQ sauce, it was like a bottle of Bullseye was poured on it. Overpowering to the point where I only ate half. Poutine side was okay but had been put under the broiler so there was melted cheese soup, not melty cheese curds on top of the fires. Service was okay but don't leave your plate unattended or the bus boy will swipe it, beer selection is passable but safe and uninspiring. Glad to have tried it so we know that we're not really missing out on anything special.

I ate dinner here tonight with my brother and his girlfriend. We had a wonderful meal. The server was attentive, the food tasted good and the atmosphere was relaxing what with the sun shining in. We told our server that we were feeling low as we had just watched our Senators lose badly in the playoffs vs Pittsburgh and this place more than hit the spot. We will very likely be coming back with friends and family.

What's with the service in this place(or I should say lack of)?? It's the only thing I can't stand about this place when I go there. Stopped in today on a Saturday afternoon for a couple of beers and a total of 8 people in place. Sat at the bar and no bartender for at least 10 minutes(appeared to be shooting the breeze in the kitchen as she finally appeared without any food).. Bartenders regularly disappear and not to the kitchen to get food as they finally reappear empty handed. Waited for a refill and then had to call her over from the table she was sitting at with some patrons. What ever happened to the principle that a glass should never be empty and a patron should never have to ask for a refill! Get serious about your service or get's eventually going to cost you.

Excellent menu and food, always fresh, excellent service, friendly environment supporting local beers wines whiskeys and the live music is amazing and enjoyable at Thompson house. Great cozy place to go any day of the week. 😊

Amazing service, atmosphere and decor. The menu is out of this world and the beer selection is unlike anything I’ve seen locally. Keep up the amazing work everyone.

Nice place. Food was good and decent portion sizes, however when somebody gets the rest of their halibut dinner to go you should put the tartar sauce with it, it is a very good tartar sauce.

Met up with a few friends for dinner last night. Had a few pints of the Guinness....was a bit taken back at how my pint was poured!!!! Spent time in Ireland and never seen a pint with soo much foam....would not last long on the emerald isle.....other than that the food was great and service was excellent.

We had the best halibut fish&chips last night, cooked to perfection with very light batter, fries were crispy and the coleslaw was yummy! Excellent service and delightful chatter at the bar!!

So happy to have this amazing pub in the area. We frequent this place for the plentiful beer selection, welcoming staff, amazing owner and a great atmosphere. What more could anyone want? A lot of hard work and attention goes into this place. If you haven't been make sure you visit sooner than later.

Beautiful restaurant, spotless, friendly and cheerful server and bartender. Ordered the burger special, my wife had the panko chicken sandwich. Both meals were awesome and clearly house made- no processed chicken or burger patties here! We'll be back, for sure!

Thanks to a friend's recommendation, we had an incredible dinner which included Cajun Crusted Ahi Tuna, The Dirty Burger & delicious Fish & Chips. Service was top notch & very friendly. A great menu selection will definitely have us returning again!

The server and my Caesar were great. It looked like they had an okay selection of beer, but I probably would not eat here again.
