I don't suppose that its fair that I have not tried any of the other places here along fish and chip shop row. I have always been perfectly content to order take out from Moby Dick and go across the road to eat on the beach. The food is tasty fish and chips, a little greasy but lots of it. The 2 piece ends up being 3 and I see from other reviews that this is their way of doing things. If I ordered 2 piece and got 2 pieces, I would feel ripped off! So 3 big pieces of cod and more fries than you will eat. Hot and tasty! On this first day of fall, we decided to try their calamaris which was also OK. The squid was tender and the batter crisp but both squid and accompanying tzatziki needed salt. I could have remedied that myself but we were across the road and a ways away before I figured that out! Some time, we will give the other places a chance but for today Moby Dick provided what we wanted!
Moby Dick Fish & Chip is located on White Rock Beach. It's my favourite fish and chips restaurant in Vancouver. I always went here with family and friends. It's a middle size of restaurant. People can sit either inside or outside the restaurant to eat.This place is always very busy and has a big line up. Normally, this place will gives your extra fish. The fish and chips here are very fresh and tasty.
Ordered the 4 piece fish and chips with extra side of tarter. It was super busy today had to wait about 15 mins for takeout. But was worth it, everything was fresh from the deep fryer. Fish I think was cod, batter was nice and light not too thick a little too greasy for me but still very good.
This is the place for fish and chips. The line ups and long waits are worth it. An extra piece of fish for free and the perfect crunch. Always delicious. Always perfect.

We went on a Sunday at 6. It was really busy and there were 10 people waiting to be seated. Thankfully we had called ahead and made a reservation so we were seated immediately. The service is fast but minimal. No water refills, that kind of thing. Bills are waiting for you at the front counter, not brought to your table. As for the food - WOW the portions are huge! Shared the 4 pc ($26.99 currently) between 3 people and were absolutely stuffed. (Note - It is really 5 pc as they give you 1 extra piece with every order). There was a mountain of fries - all fresh, hot and nicely done.
Tartar sauce will cost you extra, which was a little chintzy in my opinion. C'mon... it's fish and chips - you have to have tartar!
The atmosphere is quaint. The whole seating area has approx 10 tables and is no larger than around 500sf. The decor is fun, lively, nautical themed. Ventilation isn't great though, so you will come out covered in a light coating of oil and smelling like fish and chips after your meal.
Ordered the 5 piece portion; as noted if it's sunny you'll have to wait, we waited only 15 minutes. Fish was good nice and crisp on the outside and super moist on the inside. Worth the stop if your walking along the beach.

My favourite fish and chip spot by far! Not only is their fish delicious but the tartar sauce is the best! Service is always great but be prepared for a wait especially on sunny days. Don't forget - you always get an extra piece of fish with your order!
Anyone gone to White Rock beach and noticed all the fish & chips restauraunts across the strip? I tried a few but nothing beats Moby Dick's fish and chips! We had the 3 piece fish and chips and an order of coleslaw and everything was delicious. The service was also very good. The ladies operating the store were very helpful and friendly. Best fish and chips I've ever had.
One of the best fish and chips I've had in the lower mainland. The fish was perfectly cooked and the batter was crispy and not too greasy. Loved the fries and tartar sauce as well. There's interesting decor to look at as well while waiting .
Best fish and chips in BC!!! All the rest don't even compare. The fish is great, the fries are mouth watering, the service is friendly and the establishment is nice and cozy.
We drove in from vancouver and spotted this cute little joint. We decided to give it a try and wow, what delicious fish and chips! And that tartar sauce is unbelievable! I highly recommend this place. If you go with a group, get the 'feed the crew'. So worth it, plus they throw in an extra piece of fish! Yummmy!
Great place, highly recommend. Had a great visit here at Moby Dick - service was great, atmosphere was enjoyable and the food was superb! Unlike your typical fish and chip shop, everything we ordered tasted fresh and not sickening. The highlight of our visit was the Yukon potato fries, the crispy battered fish and the BEST onion rings, though we did love everything. Waitresses here were friendly and helpful. Overall, I'm impressed with this place and can see why people would line up for the only crowded restaurant on the strip.
Our family eats here about once or twice every few months and it's always awesome. Best fish and chips ever. Period.

I have been a regular at Moby Dick since it originally opened back in the mid 70's. I was so happy to hear when it was sold that the new owners made the smart choice to not fix something that isn't broken....they kept the place pretty much the same, food and decor (minus some dusty inflatable whales suspended from the ceiling!) Our family would always order the Barrel of Fish and Chips for 6 and there was plenty extra! The fish is very meaty and we loved their fresh cut fries! It is a bit pricier now than back in the 70's,but it's worth....just check out the line ups...call ahead for take out if you know that's where you're going.....btw ALL the owners and staff are awesome too!!

Best fish and chips around!! Large portions and their golden fries are sweet and crispy. Tartar house is complimentary when dining in and they make it from scratch and it is amazing. Tourists and locals alike flock to this place. Small little restaurant but worth checking out
My favorite. This is another classic example of find the biggest line on the strip and then line up. I used to drive all the way out from the city for this every couple weeks. The food isnt cheap but its also quite reasonable. I just go with the fish and chips every single time. I tried a mix platter of some sorts one time and never again. The tartar and fries are also great and I always get extra tartar sauce.
Awesome. The fish and chips are incredible! The fish is tender and flaky and moist. with a dark golden crispy exterior. The fries are greasy, but delicious nonetheless. The tartar sauce has a delicious slightly dill-like taste - nice and tangy. I ordered a house salad - iceberg lettuce, fresh cucumbers and tomatoes. And of course, some white wine to wash the grease down. Service is very efficient and friendly. Great little spot if you have a hankering for fish and chips.

I ordered the seafood sampler for the appetizer, which had a good array, like calamari and deep fried oysters (that was a treat!)
I just got the small sampler - which was just one piece, I think it was $7.50 or $9, I can't remember, but it was good!
Nice generous size fish, and the chips were good! Just right, not soggy, but not so crispy that they're burnt. The tartar sauce was so good with the fish!

Freshest of fresh fish on the west coast. Oh my lord. I was at this place a few years back and I must say...this place is a must. A typical atmosphere for a fish n chip joint, but there is a reason its been around for over 30 years. Plus doesn't the seafood taste that much better when you are right on the ocean. Perfect crunchy battered fish. Onion rings are my weakness and were crispy and sweet from the onion. The onion still had a little bit of a crunch too. And the fries are delicious.
Worth the wait!. There is always a HUGE line to order takeout or eat in -- it's because the food is FAB-ulous. The portions are inappropriately huge!! The homemade tartar sauce is the kicker for me -- it is to die for. HIGHLY, highly recommend checking this spot out for yourself.
Great Fish & Chips. Open on Monday when all the other Chip shops were closed. Very nice service and an extra free Chip. Gotta love it!
Worth the drive for great fish and chips. I had heard many great things about this place and recommended by many people. I'm not too familiar of what makes fish and chips great, but for my mom, who has tried Many fish and chip places, it met her expectations. Not only wad the batter not too thick buT the fish was really moist. If only they had more healthier options or even more variety on their menu but overall I dwfinitely enjoyed their food.
Fabulous fish and chips. This place buzzes constantly. Terrific fish, no wonder their fish is so fresh - they sell it non-stop. Generous portions. Only caveat that I would provide is for folks who like their chips long and crispy - these hand chipped from Yukon Gold spuds with their skins still on, and unless you've had them before you may want to sample a couple first. Great location as right next to huge pay parking lot in White rock alongside the beach, if you want to enjoy your dinner or lunch on a rock looking across Boundary Bay at Pt Roberts you can't do any better.

Seriously, the fish and chips were the BEST we've ever had. It was a quieter day in White Rock today too - but it sure wasn't quiet at Moby Dick's; the servers couldn't serve the food fast enough.

-either take out or dine in, don't know if there is price difference.
