Review Sushi Today - Whitby

This is mine and my best friend's favorite sushi place in Oshawa! Absolutely delishious sushi, great atmosphere, and the staff is always welcoming :) If you haven't dined in since the pandemic, make sure to go check them out since the menu is revamped and there are more delicious options available. I took photos of the rainbow roll and the California salad so hope you agree with me on how fantastic these look! 10/10 stars always! We have been coming to Tokushima for almost a decade together and this sushi place will always remain our spot for years to come :D

One of the best sushi places I’ve ever tried. The fish was absolutely fresh and made to perfection. Will surely be back to try other things on the menu.

Ordered there orange chicken off skipthedishes. VERY disappointed. Looks nothing like a basic orange/general tao/lemon chicken dish. The chicken shape is flat and rubbery (literally, biting into it you can hear it squeek between your teeth) the sauce was very tasteless even with all the junk they included in it (random chillis but no spice? How is that even possible?) it also came surprisingly cold even though my driver was quite speedy but the Order itself took nearly 35 minutes to complete which seems weird since I called in and they said it wasn’t busy. The dish was also VERY watery. Such an awkward dish to attempt to eat lol. The only reason they got 2 stars instead of one was because they included rice and a soup. I appreciate extra El la cartes being added.

My go-to FAVOURITE sushi spot for years now. Confidently the best there is in Durham Region and the start of great Japanese Cuisine and sushi in the area. Their prices have gone up over the years- as expected, especially with the pandemic. However, the quality has always remained amazing. Nothing will beat their AYCE dine in! The food is served in a timely manner fresh as can be!!!

I'm so pleased my favorite sushi restaurant made it through the lockdown... Nothing is changed at Tokushima hands down the best sushi in Durham Region and dare I say nearly all the way to Toronto... it is genuine Japanese style here, not Chinese sushi, everything is clean crisp and very carefully prepared, it's the little details they remember here like the scallions in the dipping sauce and changing their oil regularly also the beef they use in their appetizer dishes is high quality and all the sushi is really carefully done. Also one of the few that does special roles with rice on the outside.

A simple but nice eatery. Food is da bomb. Can't get enough of their spicy crab and spare ribs. Quick and everyone is so nice. Good for beginners to sushi and 0lenty of other fried and non fried options Good date option

Yummy yummy. Lunch menu is a little limited, but all the basics and must-haves are there. You will have a very satisfying all you can eat sushi experience.

So it's my first time trying sushi today, my friends recommended it to try it out. I wouldn't give it a high rate, I've tried many sushi restaurants including this one, and they weren't bad. However, what I didn't like is the food was below my expectations, and there wasn't a variety in the menu. But I services was good and the stuff were nice, everything was okay except the food that I didn't like.

An enjoyable restaurant for all you can eat sushi. They have an Ipad ordering system of which you can select Japanese and Chinese dishes. Good value at lunch.

We arrived 4:50pm. Service was fast for initial portions of meal (ordered by i-pad). However placed final order (5 items) at 5:29, but by 5:50 none of the items had arrived. We beckoned a waitress who told us politely that she would follow up. A few minutes later, 1 of the 5 items arrived, but when 6:00 rolled around nothing had still transpired with respect to the remaining 4 items. We discussed with our waitress who made notes (again) and she said (again) that she would look into it. At 6:10 there still had been nothing delivered so asked for the Manager. When no one came, we put on our coats and approached the Manager ourselves, however he simply ushered us to the cash register and handed us our bill. We expressed our dissatisfaction but the Manager simply shrugged his shoulders and said "sorry we are busy" and passed us the debit machine. We were very disappointed as this is the third time we have had a similar experience with this location towards the end of our meal, and the lack on concern on behalf of the staff was apparent at these times as well. This was a good restaurant when it was known as "Go Believe", however has only gone downhill since it became "Sushi Today" a couple years back. We will certainly not be returning after today's lack of concern shown by the staff and Management of this establishment. In today's competitive and service oriented world this is certainly not the way to treat (or keep) a customer.

I have been here a few times and each time was just as good as the last. The maintain a great service record, staff are friendly and helpful. The food is terrific! Definitely the best sushi place in town.

I went yesterday lunch on a sunday, and it was very busy.Despite being so busy we recieved great service.Food was fresh and properly on time. I would definitely recommend this place, and the price is a lot better than most places. <br/><br/>

Went yesterday and always the food was very good. The service was SO horrible!!!! They were rude and took the plates before we were done. We were rushed even though it was pretty empty, very uncomfortable. They changed the order system and though there were 4 of us they brought everyone's ice cream in the same bowl cause they were the same flavour. Rethinking ever going again 👎

SLOW!!. Visiting family in Whitby, thought I would pick up sushi for dinner. Saw Sushi Today was close by so thought I'd give it a try. Ordered online, 30 min pick up time. Seemed like a long time for one roll and 8 pieces of sashimi but went with it. Arrived at restaurant and server had no idea where my order was. The sushi chef had to stop what he was doing to assist. I then continued to wait 15 more mins for my order. <br/>While I was waiting multiple customers came up to the cash to pay their bill and staff Didn't seem to know what was going on, yelling at each other. Weird. <br/>In the end I waited 45 minutes for a small take out order on a Monday night!! <br/>Came with no extras like salad or soup, which I'm normally used to at other sushi joints. <br/>Food was MEH

Services is really bad!!!!. We went to Sushi Today on 1801 Dundas St. East, Kendalwood Park Plaza, Whitby, ON L1N 7C5 for family dinner. 3 kinds of orders that we ordered did not arrive after a long wait finally we asked the waitress who works there .... Our waitress was immediately snapped .... "It's coming ... it's coming !!!" and the food that we ordered still NOT coming ... no word of apology from the waitress .... she has no concern at all to check our orders why are not coming .... really.... very bad service!! we finally gave up ... pay our food and will NEVER come again to that place !!

An empty shell of what it used to be.... I just marked this location is permanently closed as it was recently renovated in reopened under a new name, with completely new management.<br/><br/>Despite being my favorite sushi restaurant previously my first visit yesterday under the new ownership and business name was dismal. To begin the restaurant was frigid inside, we had to wear our jackets as did many others and even the staff were working with their winter jackets on – it wasn't evident if there was a problem with their heating system as despite commenting on it several times it did not seem like many of the staff spoke English well enough to really communicate with the underlying issue may have been. If this was an attempt at cost-saving they are quickly going to destroy their customer base - it was downright uncomfortably cold in the restaurant!<br/><br/> On a positive note they have switched to an iPad based ordering system like many other sushi restaurants, and I expected this to be a big plus. Unfortunately the stuff was rather inattentive to it and often seemingly confused about the whole thing as it took an exceptionally long time to get our first order of food, and even longer to get our second order – we were left with nothing to eat for a period of time. <br/><br/>Thankfully the food was still good, unfortunately the price for lunch has gone up by a few dollars but now includes a soda, which is not everybody may necessarily want. <br/><br/>I have marked this location as closed and the new business name should be entered so that the reviews can start anew – this New restaurant certainly does not deserve the glowing reputation of its predecessor at this point in time

USE TO BE GOOD. Do not waste your time going to this place, staff is poorly trained, food is not fresh, and you cannot communicate with anyone there.b

Used to be our fravourite restaurant. We have been there so many tines, was our favourite restaurant. Last two times were not good. Not sure if it is a new cook, or supplier. The food looks and tastes different not, not the quality it was.

Great Deal!!!!!!!!!. Best place in Durham that I have been too for sushi, go for the $12.99 lunch all you can eat, it feels like I am in Toronto eating at a luxurious restaurant whenever I go, the staff are really nice and friendly, not only that but this is the only buffet style restaurant that I will buy a bottle of beer at because it's only $2. I recommend this to any of the sushi lovers out there in the Durham Region to come to this one.

Bad food, Bad service, Dirty!. We have tried 11 AYCE sushi places between Bowmanville and Whitby since developing a love for the food. With this passion and experience comes some expectations. Unfortunately this place just doesn't make the cut. When you first walk in it looks nice enough, but once seated you start to notice the disrepair and dirt. Most of the servers we dealt with are sour and never cracked a smile. When the food started coming it was Sloppy, rolls that fell apart served in an unappealing manner. Taste was terrible, some of the fish had a bad smell! (Never eat raw fish that smells fishy) Fresh sushi does not smell fishy. The tempura we ordered tasted terrible, with a bad aftertaste from old oil. The sauce was yucky. It just goes on and on. Believe me if I hadn't had good Sushi before I might have left thinking ewww sushi! Thankfully we have had the good stuff and know its out there. Sushi Mountain is down the road and a far better choice! And no I don't work there, It's Just the best around.

Meh. So the all-you-can-eat dinner menu is good, and I was really impressed with the price $16.99 for adult. The food itself is very good. However, I was very unimpressed with the service. It was a holiday so I cut them some slack but you'd figure they would be better prepared for a busy night. They were clearly under-staffed. My bf and I sat at our table for a good 20-30 min without anything, watching everyone else around us (including people who ordered after us) get served their food.

Disgusting in every way possible. All of the things that were supposed to be "cooked" were raw (vegetables and such). And the sushi pizza? Was a few pieces of brown (gross) avocado. Not even done properly. <br/>Avoid this place by all means possible.

Amazing sushi restaurant! I love sushi and this is my favourite place to go! It's cheap and delicious.

Hit and miss. Great price for good sushi for the most part. I have had more than one bad experience with the butterfish(old/fishy) and the spicy salmon seems to be old compared to reg. salmon cuts. <br/>Overall, good experience and a great price. I visit this place quite often..

Unbelievably good food and exceptional service. I have tried many sushi places across Ontario and by far I have found my favourite. Even on a busy day the service is great. Reading other reviews I just want to state that I have not had a bad visit or experienced poor service and I visit weekly. Loyal customer.

Unbelievable - Tuesday October 9 2012. Unkempt and dirty looking male server had the audacity to reprimand us for not eating the plain rice that is served with their sushi rolls! Even went so far as to threaten to charge us the dinner menu price for not eating it! NEVER again will we go back here...food was good but service and manners of the servers were totally lacking.

Great Food. Modern Atmosphere. Friendly Service. $2 Beers!!! I will definitely be back and recommending to friends.

I have ordered take out from here on multiple occasions. Each and every time, there is a mistake on the order. I have had enough, and will not be returning to this restaurant.

Sooooo good.. This restaurant is actually on Dundas St. in Whitby. The service is always friendly and the food comes out quickly and is always fresh. The maki rolls are excellent and the sushi just melts in your mouth. At $12 lunch and $20 dinner all you can eat you can't go wrong!! They also have a tempura banana for dessert which is to die for!
