Amazing dinner! We celebrated our daughter’s birthday here and we all left happy! We all had the prime rib and it was flavourful, tender and cooked exactly as we had requested. Absolutely delicious meal and really nice ambience. Our server Anastasia was very knowledgable, funny and friendly and it was a real pleasure to have her as our server. Thanks TBH, we will definitely be back!
Went for the first time tonight for James’ birthday. Our server Michelle made the experience all the more great. We shared the mini Yorkshire Pudds and then I had the chicken club with truffle fries and James had the prime rib with garlic mashed. After they brought him a chocolate torte for his birthday. It was lovely. No complaint. The atmosphere was nice. We’ll be back. Thank-you for making our evening so nice. Great job!
Some of the best dining in Whitby. Large restaurant. Menu is seasonal and made with local ingredients. "Appy Hour" on Fridays (4-6) serves up half price apps. The lobster dip is my personal fav (very generous portion, large chunks of lobster). Lots of healthy lighter options. Wood burning pizza oven. Caeser is rimmed with dill which is different but delicious!
Located in the heart of Whitby sits five year old The Brock House, co-owned by busy restauranteurs Russ Kent and Chris Neshevich. From the outside, this large brick building looks like any other, but inside it’s easy to see what all the hype is about. With a charm that boasts a mixture of wood and brick decor, as well as a beautiful fireplace, this space gives off a warm, cozy chalet vibe. With the goal of bringing Toronto dining to the Durham region, Russ and Chris brought one of their best chefs from their sister restaurant Hotrocks to The Brock House. Chef Sean, who describes his style as “simple things done well”, ensures all food is made from scratch and ingredients are locally sourced when available.
We arrived at The Brock House on a windy November day, and escaped the biting cold to the warmth of this cozy restaurant. We were greeted by Event Coordinator, Caitlin, who we soon found out is the creator of Whitbylicious, a rival to Toronto’s ever successful Winterlicious. Throughout Whitby and Brooklin, Whitbylicious features ten local independent restaurants with $2 from every dish going to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. As we chatted about the upcoming Whitbylicious, Caitlin seated us quickly and before we knew it drinks were on their way.
Ever the Caesar enthusiasts, we decided the first thing to try would be The Brock House Caesar ($8.50). The vodka in this libation is infused with dill and cucumber, giving it a unique and original twist. With a salt rim made of dill and celery, and a crunchy pickled cucumber garnish, this drink is lovely and fresh, and highly recommended for Caesar fanatics like us.
With easy drink decisions out of the way, we took to the dinner menu to order our mains. First up was the aromatic Halibut ($29). Perfectly pan-seared and presented on a bed of bok choy in coconut tom yum, this dish was light with hints of ginger and cilantro, great for Thai food lovers who appreciate less heat in their dish without sacrificing flavour. Neck clams add a nice rich flavour to this dish, and are a fantastic way to scoop up the broth at the end of the meal — something we found ourselves doing until the bowl was empty.
After raving about the Halibut (and finishing the entire plate!) we were eager to move on the their Famous Slow Braised Boneless Beef Short Rib ($25). This hearty meal, served with fresh garlic red-skinned potatoes and seasonal vegetable, boasts a juicy, tender short rib soaked in a balsamic veal jus. For guests who love a good meat and potato dish, this is one enhanced home-cooked meal that you’ll have trouble saying no to.
Our final dish, and quite easily our favourite of the evening, was the Seared Ahi Tuna ($16). Served rare with an olive tapenade, confit tomatoes and pickled green beans, this tuna meal is accompanied by house made kettle chips, garlic aioli and cured egg yolk. The combination of olive and tuna practically danced on our taste buds, with a brininess that wasn’t too over-powering or subtle. The pickled green beans and kettle chips added a nice crunchy texture contrast, and rounded out this standout dish well.
In the end, The Brock House not only lived up to our expectations of a great local Durham restaurant, but also greatly exceeded it. With its chalet vibe, gorgeous fireplace and walls lined with wine bottles of all types, this local gem is a great place for a family meal or dinner date with friends. For girls night, The Brock House hosts a monthly Women & Wine night, which features a five course meal and wine pairings for $65, tax and tip included.
Great twist on food and friendly staff. We have eaten at the BH many times when we lived in the area and it is a regular go-to place for us when we visit. Their Burgerfest this summer was simply delicious: from traditional to quite original options, everyone in our group of seven enjoyed their meal. As a foodie, one of the things I look for is having my meal served at the proper temperature - no problem here!
Favourites from the regular menu include: the prime rib dinner, several appetizers, the salmon, pulled chicken pizza to name just a few.
We have found the staff consistently friendly and accommodating, whether sitting at a table or the bar. The BH is a great place at the end of the day or work-week to start off the weekend!
And the separate rooms are great for special events or larger groups!!
A great space, great food and great staff!
Fantastic food excellent service. Very reasonable price. Had dinner without a reservation in advance. An excellent evening to celebrate our 28th anniversary.
A great choice. After 2 dinners and a great lunch, it is time to share the news...the Brock House is the place to go in Whitby and definitely worth a drive if you do not. Interesting menu with loads of choice, attentive service, reasonable prices, good food, nice presentation and a bustling/vibrant atmosphere. We will definitely be going again.
LOVE!. I love this place! go for dinner and drinks ALL the time. Food is amazing and the service is just as great!
They have events like the ''Women and Wine'' where a winery will come in for a tasting, and the chef will prepare foods to compliment it (tapas). So great! They do one for beer as well...
Atmosphere is really nice and their Sunday brunch will please any palate!
Will definitely be back soon :)
Good. Good place - great service and food
Love!. Great atmosphere, Great staff and most importantly GREAT FOOD! The set up was not only inviting but made you feel as though you were right at home. The staff added to this by being both helpful and providing great service start to finish! The menu is one that anyone can enjoy with prices that leave you full and happy!! I had heard great things about this place and needed to try it for myself. They were right!
Writing this review left me feeling conflicted, on the one hand I want to tell everybody about this great restaurant called "The Brock House" but on the other hand I want to keep this gem a secret & all for myself.
But let's be real, it would be impossible to keep this place a secret especially when you consider the growing food scene in the Durham region, it was only a matter of time until this shooting star made its way into the spot light.
So how's the food? Its pretty good, the fried calamari is crisp and well seasoned, the brisket sandwich is generously packed and the pizzas are fantastically topped and sauced. That covers only what we ordered, there's a ton more to choose from and I look forward to trying the other items on the menu.
What about the service? Excellent, we were seated and served quickly. The staff were attentive and ensured satisfaction.
If you find yourself in the area, you should definitely stop by. Good food at great prices.
The food was great. Not too busy on a Friday afternoon. Really liked the ambience there and the fact that the patio outside was heated was awesome. (Not really relevant now but good to know there's an option for the fall /early winter).
Very kid friendly as well with two babies we had with us!
We had an amazing family dinner at the Brock House. The ambiance was great, the staff was fantastic, and the food spectacular! We ordered the Buffalo cauliflower and Korean chicken bits as appetizers, and both were 10/10! I then had the salmon as an entree … amazing! I highly recommend!
This was my 1st time here and was for a friend's birthday. Service was great. Loved the atmosphere and food portions were terrific and great variety. Definitely will be back.
Atmosphere was western like. Service was good could be little faster at the beginning. The food were delicious as my party of 8 loved it! Good selections of pizza, pasta, sandwiches and main entrées. Started with mussels in white wine sauce, good portion. Followed by Prime Rib 10 oz. Au jus, served with veg, side order of mushrooms. So good.
Partner with a bottle of red Italian wine.
Free parking. Wheelchair accessible. Price competitively. Will dine again. In Whitby Ont.
Amazing ambiance, service and food selection.
The restaurant is cozy and clean, our server(s) have always been courteous and patient, and the food … OMG, it’s so so tasty, especially the Buffalo Fried Cauliflower 😍 🙌🏾. Also, the portions are just enough, and food plating is fabulous 👍🏾.
This place is definitely our favourite restaurant. 💕
We’ll be back pretty soon!
Great first dining experience at The Brock House! They have a trendy but cozy atmosphere, very good menu selection and super friendly staff! We celebrated my Dad’s 75th Birthday, everyone was pleased and satisfied with their meals. From my dad, right down to my 6 year old… everyone was happy and stuffed. We will definitely be back in the near future to try more of their menu!
