Review Kam Yin Restaurant - Waterloo

I come here 3 times a week for their lunch special. They always have delicious food, great service, and a lovely atmosphere! My favorite Chinese place in town.

Ordered the beef pad Thai and beef with cashews and vegetables. The pad Thai was lacking flavour, noodles and beef texture was ok. For the veggie dish, the veggies were 90% celery with some onions and a few carrots. The beef tasted like salty water.

Sesame chicken was good and would probably be even better when it hasn't been in a takeout container for the drive home. Other dishes were well prepared. The "Beef with Ginger" dish is not the same as "Ginger Beef" you might get at other restaurants, so dont order it expecting it to be breaded. The fried rice tasted more burnt than I would like. Food was ready quickly and seems fresh.

The food was very delicious and services are also very excellent .

Tried for the first time tonight, got the beef pad Thai and another beef dish. Their spring rolls were gross and the food literally had no flavour. Please save your money this place is trash

Can only give 5 stars for this would give 6 if it was possible. Amazing place and atmosphere. Top class food which was presented so well and the service was fantastic. No expense was spared for the restaurant and as a customer, we saw this. All I can say is well done the Tai Dop Voy were just awesome.

Extremely disappointing. My wife and I ordered from here the first - and last - time on Valentine’s Day. Our biggest issue were the sweet-and-sour fried wontons shown in my image. They were not wontons. They were wonton skins. They sent us a box full of fried wonton skins with zero filling. I’ve never seen something like that and I’m still shocked. Normally if food isn’t great I don’t put a review, but just because of these wontons I had to share this with others. The rest of the food was subpar. It looked like all of the food was boiled instead of fried and the noodles that came with it also look like they were just boiled with no flavour or spices. It was not good food, and it wasn’t even cheap which would make me expect lower quality food. The only thing that saved them was their almond soo guy chicken. That was well-made and tasted good. But we ordered that, black bean tofu, Cantonese chow mein special, and the wonton (skins), so 1 out of 4 isn’t a good experience. It saddens me to post bad reviews, especially for a restaurant during this time, but what we received was just unacceptable and I don’t want others to have a similar unexpected experience.

Had dinner here yesterday and it was absolutely lovely!!! From the food to the service and decor, it was all fabulous. Look forward to the next visit.

The food was good before. Now all they want to do is charge you more for food that is wet and soggy. SAVE YOUR AGGERVATION AND DO NOT EAT FROM HERE.

Used to be our favourite Chinese food restaurant in Waterloo region. NO MORE!!. Our experience started off poorly when the waitress couldn't be bothered to take us to a table but instead just pointed. There were several empty tables but it seemed like she didn't want us to be seated in her section. The food came out fairly quickly and we think it was because it was reheated. The chicken fried rice was dry, the bbq pork was dry and the chop suey bean sprouts were soggy. The entire meal was disappointing. The waitress showed zero interest in us until the bill was to be paid and then she was all over us. I don't know if there is new ownership or management but this place has gone down hill fast. The decor has always been kind of run-down but not it seems run-down and dirty. We will never go back. We used to rave and recommend the Kam Yin but no more.

Absolutely Awful service and mediocre to bad food. Went there as a family first time and received an awful service. There is this waiter - a bold guy in his 50s, he was very rude and unprofessional!!! When we wanted to ask a question, he gave us a cold shoulder and didn't even pay attention as if we were beggars asking for food. He was sort of a racist, he was all smiling and sweet with European looking people, but when we wanted to ask or say something he was short and rude. I am definitely not going back there anymore. And don't recommend to anyone else. Food is rated as mediocre to bad. You can find better Chinese restaurants with better food and WAY better service!!!

Hidden Treasure. Some of our friends introduced us to this place and we never knew it was there! Great Lemon Chicken!

Terrible service. Ordered the food by phone showed up and it took an extra hour for food to be ready.saw many people come and go with no explanation from the restaurant. Never ever going back there. They didn't even throw in a sorry!!!!!!!!

Best Chinese food in KW no doubt. I love it.

I've lived in waterloo my whole life and kam yin is by far the best Chinese food in the area. They also have really cheap lunch prices.
