Review Empress Of India - Waterloo

Shubham Kulkarni
They have variety of North Indian cuisines. Their tandoori chicken is a must have. We also tried shahi kofta and garlic naan and both were awesome. Paneer tikka was little bit dry. Overall it's nice Indian restaurant with good ambience and moderate service. A little bit pricier than the competition but still worth because of the amazing taste.

I always ordered in from Empress of India, but this time I dined in and it was such a good experience. The food is great, as always, the service is really good and the cleanliness is also good. Overall a good experience and I’m surely going here again.

Recently, I was craving Indian food which is why I ordered lunch from Empress of India at 34 King Street S, Waterloo, ON, N2J 2X5. Located in Uptown Waterloo, this restaurant is known for its authentic Indian and Indo-Chinese dishes! Let’s get on with what I ordered! I ordered a plate of Chaat Papri and a bowl of Rasmalai. With a delicious combination of yoghurt, mint chutney, and tamarind chutney topping up the crisps and chickpeas, the Chaat Papri was full of flavour and delight! The Rasmalai was simply an addition to the perfection with the aromatic saffron and delicious pistachios bringing an end to the lunch! Ever since I moved to Waterloo, Empress of India has been my go-to when I miss home-cooked food. To hear about this review, follow us @eatinontario on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook.

This restaurant serves authentic Indian food. I have tried vegetarian cuisine at many places, but I liked this place’s food better. They do have good options for vegetarians like me. Customer service is also great. The music adds the sparkle to the place. Will definitely recommend this place to anybody missing India for food.

Ordered food here for first and last time. Taste was average. But portions were too small for $16 compared to other places. And containers were literally half full. Never been there before so I don't know if it's always like this or they did it just because of the deal on uber eats buy one get one free. Seems like they just divided one portion into 2 and delivered the order. Won't order again because all other places give double the size of portion for $16.

Probably the best Indian food in Waterloo for non-vegetarian dishes. The butter chicken and goat curry were very good. Some cons: - I tried their vegetarian dishes and those weren't quite as good - Wait times can be quite long when dining in. I remember waiting for ~25 minutes before getting our food but that could've been due to it being a busy evening

This spot is my favorite in the Waterloo region for South Asian food and culture. The dine in area is clean, appropriate lightening, excellent seating, and has a classy look to it. The employees there are easy going, caring, and nice folks. I tend to order Chicken Korma and Rasmalai for desert, hands down best in town. If your looking for a nice restaurant to go to on a date night or with family and friends while eating quality South Asia food, this is the spot.

Their lamb korma was good, service too. UPD: One of a few Indian restaurants still serving real korma with powdered cashews in the sauce. Service is great as well as drinks. Attached: anarosh One answer I got in another restaurant serving a regular brown colour curry instead of creamy nutty korma was they were afraid of allergies but in reality it could be any reason from saving on ingredients to recipe differences depending on region.

I am new to this kw area. Went there for late night grub and i was pleasantly surprised with the taste.<br/>We ordered hariyali kebab, goat curry, chicken tikka masala with aloo paratha and biriyani. Side dishes come with coplimentary naan or rice so need not order separately.<br/>Every dish tasted awesome but special mention goes to the goat curry. Mutton is so soft it melts in your mouth and taste reminds you of authentic mutton curry from india.<br/><br/>Also if you pay by cash you get a 10% discount.<br/>Highly recommend the place.<br/>The restaurant is conveniently located in front of the beautifully decorated waterloo park.<br/><br/>My rating :<br/>Taste : 8/10<br/>Quantity : 8/10<br/>Staff : 9/10<br/>Ambience : 8/10

The restaurant has a good decor and ample space inside, food was tasting good too. However, has very bad service and rude staff. I went in a group with my friends and were seated at a table in some time. We had taken the buffet and helped ourselves through the courses, having to ask multiple times for water to be given at the table. The staff ordered us to not reuse the plates and we obliged to that, but the plates were not being cleared from the table and we had to pile-up plates while we were eating. The restaurant was closing the lunch service by 14:00 which we were aware of and were planned to leave accordingly. By 13:45 the lights at our table and the side we were seated were switched off while a table on the other side with local people seated was still being entertained with good lighting and the servers' talks.<br/>After all of thos, when we were about to pay, the server also started telling us very rudely "Guys, next time don't waste food!"<br/>Definitely a place I would never wish to come again or recommend to any of my friends

When you visit the Empress, they aim to impress. Of all the Indian places to eat in Kitchener-Waterloo, this is the place to go. Whether you dine in or take out, the food is impeccable. <br/>Usually, the gal and I will get take out (Lamb Korma, Lamb Vindaloo and Naan bread), but the atmosphere is very comfortable and relaxed when we dine in as well. Treat yourself to a bottle of wine and enjoy your visit to the Empress of India.

Horrible value for the money. I just ordered pick up for the royal butter chicken and tandoori chicken for the first time here usually I order from modern India or grain of salt. The portion sizes for these two dishes were just horibbe. I paid 15 dollars for 4 small pieces of tandoori chicken and it didn't even taste good. Will defiantly not be ordering here ever again.

Excellent. Look forward to the next time. Went with a group of four on a Sunday night. The overall best indian restaurant I have been to. Service was fast and friendly. Atmosphere was quiet and welcoming. Place was clean and not cramp (including the restrooms). Food was excellent, not cheap but not overly expensive either. Had the samosas, pakoras, saag beef, chicken korma, mixed tandoor platter, naan, and roti. Would order it all again.

I have visited this restaurant several times. The butter chicken was specifically what I went for. This last time I was very disappointed. They changed the butter chicken recipe and it wasn't even close to the taste or quality it was in the past. I don't know if this was a one off or if they changed suppliers, but to be honest I'm afraid to try it again! Don't think I will go back :( upsetting since I loved it.

Takeout. Really - $14.99 for 6 pieces of chicken in a swamp of sauce? Over priced for what we got.

Decent indian food. I have visited the lunch buffet a number of times and the food has been satisfactory on all occasions. <br/><br/>the naan and the mango lassi are sub par, the korma is very good. <br/><br/>I am very impressed. 3 stars out of 5<br/>I have posted some pictures

Okay experience - one poor waitress working the whole restaurant (waiting tables & answering the phone), which meant that although she was quick & helpful, service was really slow. We had good pakoras, though a bit greasy, a bland, tasteless, waste of calories daal dish, and a very tasty chicken saag (although it came out wrong at first). We have ordered the daal before & it used to be good. Apparently they've had the same complaint from other customers. Would eat the saag again anytime! Disappointingly, the waitress didn't do anything to fix our crummy food - we suspect she has not been empowered to by the owner (who was standing around) and was just too run off her feet! Overall, okay but not a place we will race back to.

Delicious and down to earth!. My wife and I tried Empress of India on a quiet Thursday night. The restaurant does not look like much outside (it's in a strip plaza, next to Tim Hortons in uptown Waterloo), but the food served is delicious. Many dishes are also suitable for vegetarians. Undoubtedly one of the best Indian resataurants in Kitchener-Waterloo. Dessert and coffee seemed to come as a surprise to our server. Like many Asian restaurants, Empress of India has little to offer after the main meal. As we left the premises, it was striking to find a number of the restaurant's customers at the Tim Hortons next door for coffee and a donut. I understand that serving sweets and decaf coffee is not genuinely Indian, but I think it is a requirement for restaurant business in a North American context.

This plate full of chicken breasts was excellently seasoned and cooked to tender perfection.

Let me tell you, turnip tastes good curried. Sliced and cooked in a Jalfriezi-style with turmeric, onions and green peppers, it’s time to take a bow Empress of India chef.
