Review Almadina Egyptian Cuisine - Waterloo

The place is very well kept and clean. The guy who made my food was really polite and funny. I ordered their Terminator Poutine which looks great and tastes awesome. I recommend trying it when you're around Waterloo.

I've been going to this place for 4 years and over time all I've seen is the quality diminish and portion sizes decrease substantially. I really used to be a huge fan of this chain. But for what they give you now it is NOT worth the price. If I order a side of fries I expect a side of fries... Not something that would barely fill up a small fries bag at McDonald's. Also, if I order a wrap, I expect a reasonable amount of meat - not three small pieces of beef and tons of lettuce as filler. Also, the lady serving me said that I wasn't allowed to choose any of the other fillers in my wrap despite it showing on the menu sign that I can have my pick of lettuce, tomatoes, turnips, cheese, beets, sauces, etc. (she said I can ONLY have lettuce and tomatoes) -- is this not deception as I made my decision to order based on what was displayed on the menu? I keep giving this place a shot hoping the last time was just an off day. But I will not be returning. Literally every other Shawerma place in Waterloo that I've tried (e.g., Mozy's, Shawerma Plus, Lazeez, iShawarma, Aunty's Kitchen, heck even Pita Pit) provide better value than Al Madina's now.

Food inspectors should seriously check this place. I have eaten here since it first opened and the food quality has gone way down. The veggie toppings and condiments look like they have been out too long. The iceberg lettuce is rusted, there are dried patches on the hummus, the tomatoes are soggy... I hope I don't get a stomach ache after eating the wrap. Last time I was there, the server behind the counter gave me a hard time for pointing out all the toppings I wanted. Seriously, if you want to be cheap, just close down the place early. Oh yeah, the store hours are not accurate. Don't even bother going at night. Those kids love to close shop early so they don't have to work.

Great food - especially the falafel plate! Also had great service. Only issue is the amount of disposable plastic used in the restaurant. I found it very disturbing to have several plastic dishes in front of me for dipping sauces. A plastic straw was also brought in the water before I could ask for no straw.

I used to go there all the time when I lived in Waterloo. Yesterday I returned and I was shocked in the prices I paid close to $30 dollars for a pita bread, tabbouleh $10 , small hummus $7, small garlic potato salad $8. I just couldn't believe the prices of some of the items. The food was decent. However I do not appreciate outright price gouging! Every other place I have been. Including Vincenzo's is less than half.

I absolutely love this place. The food is delicious I eat here almost every day. I don't eat any other shawermas then the ones here . The new supervisor is so nice she has replaced that short bald guy that always argued about everything and gave small portions. The portions are great again the environment is friendly and welcoming again and I couldn't be happier with my service.

I posted a 1 star review after I had back to back bad experiences but it seems like the Staff has been properly trained now and I'm getting better service so I've changed my review after my last visit. Portions are still lacking though, 1 full scoop of freshly cooked shawarma meat is common for all shawarma establishments this place does about half of that. The new employee here is a LOT better though, she makes shawarma quite well for the ingredients they have. Wish the Garlic sauce was more authentic, it's really fatty and tastes quite artificial. They should try to get fresh toppings and not keep old stock, I noticed the turnips were dried up last time I came here and they used it in my shawarma. I don't get burnt meat anymore so there's improvement there, not really something I should be mentioning because properly cooked meat is something I expect anywhere I eat. Please clean your carpets, my shoes stick to them whenever I stand on them. I'm sure this place can become at least 4 stars with some key changes. Not sure if management has thought about changing up the Garlic sauce but I really think it would help. I think the biggest factor on 3 stars is the price, shawarma is sub-par and I'm paying about $9 for just the pita with no drink or fries. Some places only charge $6 and you get much better tasting food.

If you need food immediately this is a great place! service is good, timing is fast and the food is made right in front of you. I love that they have multiple options of toppings. My only issue is that it doesnt have the true authenticity of a shwarma plate. If you are looking to spend $14 on a plate this a great place.
