Review The Crazy Canuck - Waterloo

Jen Hodge
Small restaurant next to antique mall - my friends and I went for lunch before shopping. Best burger in a long time and we all had fries which were amazing. Vegetarian options too! Beer available. Prices reasonable. Takeout. Staff friendly. Order at a small counter and there is eating inside for maybe 20 and a patio. Free parking and accessible. Cute Canadian themed music space. Will be back.

Had a great experience for the first time here. There was a Lot of delicious meals on the menu to choose from. So, I decided on the mad Greek with fries, it was flavourful and filling. Also, had the Canuck lager definitely recommend a try. Paid 48.00 for two mad greek, water and beer. 4.5 stars

We used The Crazy Canuck's food truck for our wedding recently and it was AMAZING! Everyone absolutely LOVED the food and the guys who came to serve the food were absolutely the best. They were friendly and patient with us when we were running late (we really appreciated that). There were a few people who said they would use them at their events because the food and service were so good. They were also a pleasure to work with before the event. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

A hidden gem besides antique market. Beautiful decoration inside. Ordered pizza, the crust tasted very good might because the dough was fresh. The guy was very friendly.

One of Waterloo's hidden gems! What a dinner tonight! The food here is great. The Classic Canadian Poutine was great! The pulled pork is amazing and a must try! I loved their fries and cheese curds and there were lots of toppings on the pizza! Their cheese bread is also great with lots of cheese. The salad was nice and fresh. The service here is just as amazing as the food. Employees were quick to help solve any issue to make sure you have a good experience. They have a very nice patio to have some drinks and a good meal. Very good with take-out as well, just call ahead. I love what you guys are doing and I look forward to coming back.

Customer service was great. We ordered the Canuck poutine. Really good portion size, the flavour was just alright. The ribs had an odd flavour. The pulled pork was decent. Sauce was just okay. Seems like a cool spot to grab a drink and hang… but not sure I’d come back for the poutine.

Amazing restaurant with a unique menu. I have tried a good portion of their items and they always impress, especially the poutines. I was able to recently try their feature item at the Kitchener location which was pulled pork birria tacos and they were great. The tacos had great flavour and the shells had a crunchy, cheesy exterior that you can dip in the provided consomé. Nice to see a twist on a classic dish.

I love this place. It is my go to lunch place. If you don't come for the amazing food, come for the friendly staff. Both male employees I've had the pleasure of speaking to are very kind and so friendly.

I can't believe I haven't rated this place yet. I'm there frequently. Love to see what unique specials they come up with each time. Standards I recommend: classic poutine, curry goat cheese poutine, veggie pizza (add bacon), Tuscan pizza, grilled portabello burger, the grilled chicken BLT and finally - the best burger with added crispy onions and a portabello mushroom cap (I find the canuck burger with the double meat and all the toppings a bit much so I simplify it a bit). I've had them cater a few work events too and they're awesome at working with you to take a variety of dietary concerns under consideration. Christmas parties, pizza parties, poutine truck for company lunch. They never disappoint.

We ate at The Crazy Canuck tonight before seeing a production at St. Jacob’s Playhouse. Our server was awesome - made plenty of suggestions and recommendations when we asked. Our party had the pulled pork, classic poutine, kid’s pizza and a daily special - crispy chicken and gyros hoagie with Greek salad. Everything was so good! And they brought us an awesome dessert too! Thanks for the great food and service! :)

Super great meal on a cold, rainy Waterloo night. Homemade soups & grilled cheese sandwiches, along with a good Crazy Canuck ale. Service was terrific amidst the retro albums & record covers, diverse licence plates and a few awesome posters, my fave "The Canadians". Best of all, in keeping with our food-post hockey tournament tradition, a dessert taste of 'snowshoes' for the hard-working defence man. Recommend this little outpost beside the cornfields, antique store and the St. Jacobs little farm family complete with Oreo (the cow), Huey, Duey & Louie (the pigs) and a bunch of crazy chickens. Can't leave Waterloo region without a visit to The Crazy Canuck.

Found out about this place only a few days ago and I'm already hooked! The Best Burger in Town should have its name changed to "The Best Burger in Waterloo Region"; just wow! The standard fries are amazing, and the Smoked Meat Poutine is spectacular! On top of all that, the pulled pork has made me fall in love. If you only go to one place in Waterloo Region for something to eat, go to The Crazy Canuck! To the staff: remember my face and favorites, because I'll be back!

Fabulous. Not so good for the diet though there are lighter choices. Pulled pork routine is my favourite even comes with 2 ribs. Prices are usually great for amount of food. Deep dish pizza is awesome

The Crazy Canuck just catered our wedding of over 100 people 2 weekends ago. It was the BEST food & we had SO many compliments on how good the food was from our guests! They went ABOVE & BEYOND with their service to us that night!! I can't even thank them enough for how amazing it was!! Pulled pork, chicken & ribs for dinner, and then a poutine truck as a late night snack!!! Mmmm!!! Thank you Crazy Canuck!!!!!!

Decent snowshoe, good pizza, great burger! Soup was good too! Great dive spot to checkout in St. Jacobs/Waterloo, very cool theme to a quick eat.

The best poutine I had on my Canadian vacation was here, while discovering the Kitchener-Waterloo region on a day trip. Wish we had more time to discover the antique store next door though.

Stopped in at the Crazy Canuck after visiting St.Jacobs Market. It is quite a small restaurant, but aren't those the real Gems? They take on a Southern style approach to food with BBQ ribs, Baked hot dogs and The best burger in town! I kid you not, it's called the best burger in town and for good reason! The food is delicious, and the staff are friendly. My only Gripe was the size of the place. Lots of ample parking also. All in all, worth a look, just hope it's not jam packed!

I recently spent 2 days in Waterloo, Ontario.  Not exactly a destination for most, but I was actually en route to Buffalo, NY for a wedding, and decided to visit our Waterloo office on the way, to make a bit more of a trip of it.  Who wants to fly across the country for just one night anyway?. I was kinda excited.  Not because Waterloo is known to be an amazing destination or anything, but because ... Canada!  An exotic, far away land!  Yes, I grew up in NH, just 2 hours from the border, and I somehow never went to Canada when I lived there.  And this was before you needed a passport to pass back and forth too.  I also went to college in upstate NY, even closer.  And yet ... I never visited.

Came here for a classic car show last year and have been meaning to write about the place because my daughter and I like popping in for their fries. Place is fun and the decor is kinda cool!

The Canuck burger was bland — no seasoning. The crispy onions weren't crispy. The Pulled Pork sandwich was tasteless and oily. The Caesar salad and the House salad were okay.

Really enjoyed the food. This was my first visit to the Crazy Canuck. Won,t be by last, The food was great, Best burger Ihave ever had, I took my grand daugther. Too much food for her to eat, Would have like to seee a kids menu or half portions,

What a find!. Our first visit here and it won't be our last! Love the decor with vinyl records on the walls with the record jackets on the tables. The food is the fresh and tasty with their version of a "Beavertail" called the "Snowshoe". Also, the pizza with the most wonderful homemade crust and special toppings is too much! You won't be disappointed!

Love this little hidden gem. We met friends here on July 22 wanting a place with good food and variety . We shared smoked meat poutine that comes with great tasting ribs on the side...if that wasn't heaven enough we also shared a burger with perfectly done crisp bacon and cheese....THE BOMB folks you really must try it . Friends had the Buffalo Tuscan Chicken and regular poutine. I did manage to squeeze a slice into me even thou being absolutely stuffed..we also shared a "growler" that you must find out for yourself what it is when you make your way to this little gem<br/>We all left very full had to take some pizza home. Portions are more than generous, one of the owners where there this night and made the experience even more enjoyable with his friendly nature. It truly shows he has a love for his patrons and wants to make their experience wonderful...will we be back? Well it isn't our first time there we have also been for breakfast which is equally as impressive. So that answers the question will we be back..we sure will...the thing with sharing these great places with friends can backfire and they become so busy we don't get 'OUR" table .cheers

Great smoke house!. We came here for dinner and had ribs with poutine and a pulled pork quesadilla. Everything on our table was great and my wife even said this was the best pulled pork she has ever had but I make pulled pork so she probably meant second best. Come try it! Eet Smakelijk!

O Canuck. For those who love going back to restaurants to enjoy the same service and quality...everytime...this is your type of joint! We are consistently satisfied with the food this small owned business generates. Not only do I get to feel at my most Canadian with the ambiance, but I get to indulge in some amazing culinary experiences. From their pulled pork, baked hot dogs, poutines, pizzas and delicious burgers(my favorite) to the daily specials and desert...mmmm the Snowshoe, so.good. I'll always recommend and encourage people to return to because they should try everything on the menu...even the vegetarian eats like the portobello mushroom burger. Keep it up Canucks!

Disappointing Food. I liked the casual atmosphere but disappointed by the food. When I visited it was quite clear that the kitchen cooks and up front staff were untrained. My order was placed and proceeded to sit down to wait for my meal. The up front staff that took my order came to inform me that what I ordered was now unavailable (sold out) and I should choose and alternative. My soup arrived and it was burnt......yes burnt! Then my main order arrived and it was sub standard at best. When I complained about the soup the reply I got was "yes, that was from the bottom of the pot"<br/><br/>It is quite evident that these people are very inexperienced restaurateurs.

WRONG ADDRESS! PLEASE BEWARE!. First off, this is the management of The Crazy Canuck, and we would like to thank you for the kind words and continued interest in what we are doing! Second, the address is incorrect. We are located at 845 Weber St. North, Waterloo, Ontario, N2J 4G8. Again, thank you, and we look forward to serving you.

OUTSTANDING!. Found this "Gem" of a restaurant on Urban spoon. After a hard morning of moving we were looking for a place that gave large portions at a reasonable price... We were not disappointed :) we had the pleasure of meeting the owners Jeremy and Fred who's entertainment and animated personalities alone were "worth the drive from Kitchener" my bride who is a strict vegetarian made the comment that the Ratatouille was "the best she has ever had" the pulled pork sandwich was perfectly done. If your headed to the St. Jacob market do yourself a favour and give this place a try. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED :)

My new favourite restaurant. My girlfriend and I got lost on the way due to the directions posted on UrbanSpoon (look them up beforehand, it's by the antique shop in St. Jacobs). When we got there we were greeted by the extremely friendly staff that worked there. Extremely personable and genuine people that truly cared for their guests. I got a burger with bacon, cheese, mayo and jalapeños. I upgraded for the pulled pork poutine which has got to be the best poutine I've ever had. The poutine got topped with a side rib which fell right off the bone and their world class pulled pork. My girlfriend got the teriyaki chicken pizza which was also really good. I was extremely satisfied with everything. The staff there made us feel at home and the price was very good, costed me under 25$ for the two of us. We also spent some time after in the neat little antique shop. I would definitely say it was worth getting lost for. I recommend Crazy Canuck to everyone 100%.

Market Delight. Interesting place, not fancy just good grill type food! I'll be back to try something else on the menu.

Eclectic delight!. Off the wall ambiance; friendly, humorous staff; freakin great burger! I look forward to taking friends and family soon.

Surprisingly creative menu for the ambiance (license plates, album covers of canadian bands, obligatory moose...). <br/><br/>Portobello Burger A+, Caesar Salad needs a tad less dressing and cheese.

The Crazy Canuck was spectacular! Small place, great helpful and genuinely friendly service. My food was amazing, I got the portobello mushroom burger which had goat cheese, peppers, onions and a delicious balsamic sauce. It came with a choice of soup or salad...and I believe there was a third option I can't remember. My friend ordered the pulled pork poutine. Huge serving. Uniquely delicious tasting gravy with cooked apples in it, which balanced perfectly. I'm impressed with this place and stoked because its 5 minutes away from where I live. I'll be taking everyone I know!

Perfect Balance. I heard about this place at school (Conestoga) and checked it out to see what our grads are doing. I was floored. The food is delicious, the service is beyond what I could ever expect. We live in St. Jacobs, so this is one of our new 'go to' spots. Check it out, you will love it!

Delicious!. My husband and I tried it out recently and fell in love with the Canuck Springrolls. The chef and waitstaff were super friendly and the food was delicious as well as quick to get to our table. We will be back!

And now for something completely different!. My family has been scouting restaurants for our Thursday night outs and have been nonplussed with most of the lacklustre diners and kid-friendly chain restaurants in town. The Crazy Canuck is a little further out for us but was well-worth visiting. <br/><br/>Unparalleled service: patient and helpful, Jeremy enjoyed helping us figure out what we wanted to eat. He spoke kindly with our kids and helped them decide on their order (a la carte! two custom mini pizzas and spinach salads with balsamic vinegar and olive oil), then endorsed my selection of "Smoked Meat Poutine w/pulled pork, curds, 2 ribs and apple gravy". Jeremy was happy to chat with the kids and even liked one of their suggestions for an unusual pizza and said he would give it a try. They were thrilled.<br/><br/>Outstanding food: although the Smoked Meat Poutine was probably not the healthiest choice, it tasted great (!). This poutine is highly recommended - wow! The kids raved about their pizzas. <br/><br/>Custom experience: this is the gem of a hamburger place you will be glad to sneak out to when you want the unique experience of a caring staff, incredible prices and a uniquely Canadian meal. About the prices: this is the first family restaurant in KW where I didn't feel like the goal was to extract as much $$$ from me with as little returned as possible. We felt as though Jeremy genuinely wanted us to have an enjoyable, memorable and affordable dining experience.<br/><br/>Although greasy and in a location you might wish were closer to "the city", the Crazy Canuck was an immediate hit with our family. I started an urbanspoon account for the sole purpose of leaving this review. We will be back.

This place is great! The owners are very friendly and sometimes quite entertaining. Great freshly cooked meals for a decent price and solid portion sizes! Favourite place to eat in Waterloo!

Best. Poutine. Ever.. Got a tip from a friend to check this place and am I ever glad that I did. My girlfriend and I went for a quick dinner and were extremely satisfied. I had the burger with a side of the smoked meat poutine. The burger was very basic, but very delicious - there's something to be said about a simple burger done right. And the poutine - I am a poutine fanatic, and this was probably the best poutine I ever had!! Smoked meat, pulled pork, apple gravy, cheese curds, and 2 side ribs to top it off. I was full about 3/4 the way in but I had to finish every last bite since it was so good. My girlfriend had the chicken club - again, a simple menu item done right. She opted for the regular poutine, which was delicious, but the smoked meat poutine was out of this world.<br/><br/>I would really recommend this place to anybody. Inexpensive, delicious, and extremely friendly staff as well. I will definitely be going back.

Crazy for this place.. Some of the best food in town at this little place in our corner of town. Lots of awesome dishes you won't find anywhere else done the same the way. The quinoa burger is amazing and something I always want more of. The home-made sauces cannot be beat. The pulled pork will give any of the bbq smoke houses a run for their money. Pizzas, poutines and soups all awesome. Awesome food, awesome staff. Can't wait till they have some beer on tap.<br/>Try it!

Great Place!. Great food! Have had a lot of stuff on the menu as well as some of the daily features and have never been disappointed. Smoked meat poutine, pizza and the boneless dry ribs are all "must haves." Freddy and Jeremy are great guys that always provide a warm welcome whether its your first trip in or 10th.

When you own a small establishment in a city thats flouded with big name franchises you have to do something special to standout. The crazy canuck does this in spades excellent food, friendly staff that care about your dining experience.my girlfriend and I will definitely be returning.

RUN, don't walk to this great spot. Fills a void in the local foodie scene. Innovative cuisine, dare I say, Canadian fusion but at a price point unseen locally. And to top it all off two great guys a the helm.

Great food, fair prices, and super family friendly!! All-Canadian restaurant. I recommend the tereyaki pizza. Enough for two and delicious! 5 out of 5

The Crazy Canuck is a great relaxing place to hang out with friends and eat great food.  The giant patio seats a pile of people at picnic tables under a wood roof.  The inside is unique and informal; just the way we like it!  After ordering our food at the counter, we went to sit down inside at the table beside the license plates from all over Canada.  (they’re missing a PEI and a Newfoundland if you’re interested.  Maybe you’ll get free food or something!)  The interior of the place is a little eclectic with LPs nailed to the wall in a line and movie posters.  The effect is just cool! A girl I used to work with is the sister of one of the owners. Ever since she told me about it I’ve been meaning to visit, but being out by the St Jacob’s market, I don’t travel that way often. A few Saturday’s ago we ended up at the market just before close. We popped over to the outlet mall quickly afterwards, and by the time we were done we were both hungry. Finally, we were in the right place at the right time and were able to hit up Crazy Canuck . I’ll be honest, it was not what I was expecting. For some reason I had thought it would be similar to Moose Winooski’s or something, but it turned out it’s quite small inside, with only a few tables there, but they have a huge covered patio with more tables outside. The indoor decor was a little bit strange to me. The walls and tables are plastered with record covers and there is a ring of the actual vinyl’s around the walls. I’m not sure what records have to do with being Canadian, but at least they chose a theme and stuck with it. The

When you inevitably find yourself making a day of visiting (what’s left of) St. Jacob’s Market, you may give glance to the antique stores and other outlets surrounding the cusp of it. If you’re like me, you may take a lifetime to slowly approach every building if only because you take a long, long time in life gathering interests and acting on them. Years ago, I spent a good portion of my time antiquing, looking for anything made in Occupied Japan. I found like, two teacups. Anyway, after that, and more recently, it was a serendipitous interest in cosmetics that had me looking for supplies in the bulk store next to the antique store. I know what you’re thinking. And you’re probably right. Anyway, most recently, not a day or two before, I was told about the eatery sharing the space with both places. Yeah, I saw it in the past, and acknowledged it. But like I said, it takes me a long time to act on interest. Don’t live like me, kids. Otherwise, you may regret having stayed away from the

This place is awesome...there's absolutely no doubt about it. The Crazy Canuck is Canadian Gourmet at its best...comfort and deliciousness all rolled up into one. We've already blogged about them...we've sent lots of friends there way...after all, anyone who can make a delicious fried dough dessert smothered in house made jam with cinnamon sugar and ice cream deserves the kudos that they receive! So when we found out that they had recently renovated...we found a reason for a return visit post!
