Best In Town. TBH, if you really like that western Canadian Kung Pao Chicken style chinese food, this is not for you. Also, for you guys who said Don Mee is better,Don Mee is definitely better with dim sun in the morning but if you are talking about authentic chinese food, this is the place to go. They have really good food and very nice service. A few suggestions: 东坡肉 (dong po meat) is the best dish Ive ever had so far being there couple dozen times. Please know how to order good chinese food before selecting some random dishes that barely any chinese will ever order.

Best food ever!. One day me and my friends were hungry, so we went in to a random resurant. It was Shaghai City. ...Now, I can't stop coming back!

My family and I went for a private party. Food was good in general with a couple of misses: the fried noodles were not so appealing (some were burnt) and the rice did not have good consistency. Great setting and good service.

Finally Shanghainese food in Victoria. I would rate the food overall as OK/accepatable and the service was fine. I am glad that we are getting other types of Chinese food in Victoria - which has been buffet focused in recent years. If you go there I would focus on ordering the Shanghainese food as this the only place u can find it in Victoria right now.

A true gem!. While I have never set eyes on their menu, Shanghai City is sure to impress. Everytime we go to this restaurant we just tell the owner he can serve us whatever he wants. Hands down, best Chinese restaurant in Victoria. Do not be fooled by the unassuming stairway or the tacky interior decor. Shanghai City's owner has managed to differentiate himself from all the other Chinese food restaurants in Victoria through his dishes with a northern flair. (Most of the restaurants in Victoria serve southern Chinese food).
The dishes are authentic and unique, and great value for the money!
When you come here, try something different from the standard "chow mein & fried rice" you see everywhere around town! You will not be disappointed!
I will be back to try their dim sum. I have sampled their xiaolongbaos (Shanghai pork dumplings) and they are amazing!
