Review Pho Vuong - Victoria

I ordered the Bun Bo Hue. The broth needed more fish sauce and was unremarkable, but the sliced beef was excellent and the service was attentive. The pho is on the sweet side, but otherwise acceptable.

Good service and tasty food. The salad rolls and peanut sauce were delicious - one order of the non vegetarian and one veg with tofu (the tofu had a crispy outer which was a nice surprise and added to the taste). Not a fan of the shredded pork skin that my son's dish included but the rest was great. I ordered lemongrass chicken with deep fried spring rolls.

Great little restaurant with affordable prices! We ordered the beef pho and the lemongrass pork chop with rice and both were delicious.

My favourite Pho place! Awesome broth!

I had the Crab Noodle Soup and the Fried Rolls. The soup was incredible. It's cold and rainy today and it was just what I needed to warm me up. The broth had so much umami and it exploded with flavor. The veggies were ample and fresh while the noodles were on point. The crab was delectable and there were shrimps which I didn't expect. The fried rolls were perfect... not greasy at all with just the right amount of crunch. The atmosphere is nice, warm and inviting. The place itself very clean. The service was great. I felt well taken care of. I will be back

Best pho in town for sure, I've been lots of places and this by far has the best flavours!! The broth is on point and the meat is tender and fresh. The salad rolls are great as well and the wonton soup is not only a huge portion but always steaming hot and made fresh. Highly recommended pho Vuong! Hidden gem of Victoria.

Crazy variety of Pho. I chose the brisket and flank and it was excellent. Super fast and friendly service. Thought there was a funky smell in the restaurant until I realized it was the bottle of fish sauce on the table. 🤦‍♂️ Overall, a very pleasant dining experience.

Pretty good food and nice service! The salad rolls were great and the pho with steak and brisket was tasty. The pho with chicken balls was good, though the actual chicken balls weren't a very nice texture. Everything around them was well made though, so still a positive experience overall!

Wonderful to discover a great soup place near Chinatown. There’s a couple good pho options up Fort St but this is definitely a hidden gem. Delicious food, good portions, and really great prices. I actually enjoyed tendon in my soup for the first time as theirs basically melted in my mouth.

Lady attending us gave us good service. She was on top of filling our water glasses. I'm not sure what to say about the food. It was different in taste, then what I'm used to. However the veggie ingredients tasted very fresh.

I have been eating at Pho Vuong since the lovely new owner took over, the food is consistently excellent and the service is superb. I have introduced many of my friends and colleagues and they all have expressed delight with the great menu and affordable prices. Try the amazing appetizers, they are very tasty.

Yummy phõ! Restaurant is spacious and servers are nice. Seafood soup didn't have that much seafood in it unfortunately... But, it was loaded with lots of other goodies. Broth was pretty decent and not overly salty!

Everything here is so delicious! I love that the menu has photos of absolutely everything, so it makes it easier to decide. Nice place. Efficient staff. My only criticism will be that they really need to give the floors a good cleaning, especially in the bathroom.

Specialize Rice stick noodle soup with choices of beef, pork, chicken or sea food. Won tons also avaliable if not a noodle person than select rice combo dishes. Menus to start & than decide your pick. Usually free tables are avaliable yet to see 100% occupancy which is great. Have been in many times no need to wait in line. From food ordered less than 10 minutes it's on the table. Per my experience noodles in soup apparently is the fastest serve under 5 minutes . Careful soup is really hot but once the sprouts, mint and beef is immersed into the hot soup, temperature drops significantly. Tip: try the fragrant lemon grass grill chicken on a stick. Hot tea is free.

Good service. The pho is good. The chicken dish was salty for my liking. $14.95 seems a little pricey. The beer very expensive... Budweiser $5.75, Heineken $6.25, Canadian $5.75.

Amazing food! Excellent taste, great portions. Best Vietnamese

Never had food in a restaurant like this!!! Huge portions ! Fresh and great prices...!

Pho ga is very salty and has odd processed chicken 'lumps' in it. Saigon Nights with their lovely pieces of sautéed chicken breast is 200% nicer.

I called at 8:30pm to inquire about business hours - I was informed that they were open until 10pm. I travelled for half an hour to get downtown and arrived just after 9pm to hear "oh.. sorry, we're closed..." I mentioned to the lady at the front desk that I had just called and was told that they were open until 10pm... to which she robotically replied, "ohh.. sorry, we're closed...". I will NEVER be back.

I visited this place for lunch during a weekday
It wasn't very busy at all so there was a lot of attention from the staff - in fact, too much. I ordered their house pho which surprisingly had a lot of meat compared to many other pho places. The soup was average in quality - had flavour but not deep enough. I also ordered the spring rolls as a test. As other reviewers have mentioned, not good value for the price. It wasn't bad tasting but basically it was more than half the price of another bowl of pho! Would I go back? Most certainly!

Boyfriend wanted pho during Christmas holidays. I called several places and bunch were close. We finally came across Pho Vuong and decided to give it a try since we like trying new places. The pho here wasn't too bad. There were plenty of meat and the broth was quite tasty. We did order a bunch of appetizers, but it wasn't so great. Portion was a little small and pricey for what we were getting. I've read reviews that the owners of this place is cheap. If I never came here I wouldn't have agreed more. The Vietnamese coffee I got didn't have condensed milk, it was super bitter after it finished dripping. Speaking of the dripping, they didn't even give me enough hot water so the cup was only half full, whereas my friend's was full. They would of gave a bit more condensed milk so at least I could enjoy my ice coffee. When the bill came, there were only two candies for the four of us. I mean.. candies are only like what? 10 cents? 25 cents? You should at least give enough for each customer.

The appetizers were kind of expensive for what they were but Victoria is expensive compared to the lower mainland I've been told. On top of that the appetizers were kind of wack. The Pho was pretty good, good amount of meat toppings considering this to be Victoria and price wasn't too bad either. This definitely deserves a 4 rating but since they cheap out on condensed milk for the ice coffee ( wasn't even sweet) and when the bill came for the 4 of us, they gave us two candies. These candies cost 5 cents each. Which in-tern went back to the suspicion of them being cheap. Another reviewer had mentioned they are stingy.

Kept hearing good things and they didn't disappoint' we had takeout with the beef and wow it smelled so good in the car heading home it was driving us crazy. Good sized portions, good broth, lots of toppings.

I love this place. It's never super busy so you can have a pretty private dinner. I order the same things when I go here and they never taste different and always arrive very fast from the kitchen.

Service was great and the food was pretty good. Parking can be difficult in this part of town but we lucked out today. I'd go here again for soup.

Great pho, fast sevice, good free tea. I highly advise you try this place for lunch. It's really good and could use your business. Combo with pho and salad roll is excellent value.

Hands down my favourite Vietnamese place in Victoria. Everything is delicious and the staff is great!

Great pho. Best place in town for pho at an inexpensive price. I always get the Pho Vuong Special. With all soups you get a huge bowl, plus the broth is soooo tasty. Service is friendly and quick too. Nice quiet casual place to eat.

YUMMY!!!!. I'm basically a pretty picky person when it comes to choosing a restaurant. It HAS to be clean, the service has to be friendly and of course, the food has to be YUMMY!! When you have all that PLUS really good pricing, you've got a 'go-to' place for sure! This was our first time at Pho Vuong and I'm not kidding when I say that this place in now in "our rotation". Double income, no kids and yes...we eat out a few times a week - Pho Vuong is now in our rotation of places to go.
I highly recommend it. Enjoy!!!

I order here all the time from dine in and it's always good. First time dining inside though. Can't say I'm impressed - the waitress brought my boyfriends order and not mine. Waited - but after 15 mins I finally asked what was going on. She said she forgot to put in my order!! Really???? You come by - fill our waters - glance over from time to time- notice that only one person is eating and not think ... Hmm... Wonder why she's not eating. Where's her food? Unbelieveable!!! I think it was a case of a bad waitress
Kimmy
Very bad service and food. I used to come here a lot but recently I heard they changed owners. I ordered number 50 for pick up. I has to wait 15 mins just to pay because the owner and her employing were arguing. After when I relieved my meal I went home and opened it. My meal come with a different kind of meat than I ordered and the bread that came with my soup was badly burnt. Also when I opened it I realized right away that the container that was used to hole my soup was broken. They were fully aware of this and just put it in a see through plastic bag as well as a white bag so I couldn't see it until it was opened.

Stingy.. My husband and I eat pho at least once a week. Our favourite pho place recently burnt down, so we've been on the hunt for a new one. We headed to pho vuong today. We were impressed with the initial service, our server had us seated, watered, and menu'd really fast. We ordered, and she had it to us in merely a few minutes!!! However.... 1) our pho was not very hot, my meat wouldn't really cook. 2) speaking of meat, there was hardly any in there! My husband counted, he had 3 slices of steak. 3) there was this lady walking around, who seemed to be the owner/manager. We asked her for an extra lime slice and she said she would bring us one, but it never showed up...... we would've even paid for it.... 4) this is the BIG one: it's a cold windy day, and my husband has dry hands. his finger cracked and started bleeding. We asked our server for a bandaid, and she said 'yes absolutely i'll be right back' I watched her get intercepted by the manager/owner lady, and say 'hey i'm grabbing that guy a bandaid' and she shook her head and said 'no'. She came back and said she was sorry but they didn't have bandaids. I'm sorry, but that's a flat-out lie. This is a restaurant, of course you have a measly bandaid, you're required by worksafe bc to have a first aid kit.

To put this in short form: Servers were awesome, and quick. Manager is stingy, and gives bad service.

We will NOT be back, guess we're still looking for a new favourite pho place.....

Wonderful~!. I've been to Pho Vuong about ten or so times now over the past year, and never once have I been disappointed. It has a casual atmosphere with wonderful servers. The food is excellent, much better than other Pho places in Victoria. If you're looking for great Pho, but not fancy/overpriced Pho, this is the place to go.

Best Pho, Best Service, Best Prices!!. I love Vietnamese food, I have been to every Vietnamese place in Victoria, probably every place on the Island, and this one is THE best!!! The service is always friendly and fast and the food is consistently the best!! We always order 2 large #7's, and 2 appetizers and we split it between my Husband and 2 kids, total for the 4 of us is just under $30. The food is so good, I have eaten there 2 or 3 times in a week!!

Best Spicy Pho in Town. I Love these people! They are friendly, lovely people that serve up the best spicy pho in town - and I truly mean that! I have been to most pho restaurants in town and none compare. I go to Pho Vuong at least once a week.

Horrible. I ate at this restaurant 2 years ago and I remember it being OK. Not bad, not outstanding, just OK. Got some takeout tonight and it was horrible. They used pressed ham or pork in the pork and garlic pork with rice or vermicelli dish. The pork (if you can call it that ) closely resembled grilled spam. My wife's chicken pho had only 3 small pieces of real chicken, the rest of the mystery meat appeared to be some sort of pressed chicken sausage sliced into large chunks. And there was a strip of the same mystery meat in the prawn and pork roll. I couldn't make it through the meal and had to finish off with a large glass of wine to sterilize my stomach. That was the only good part of the meal. I would have gone to Pho Nomenal instead but they were closed. I should have just made Kraft dinner with wieners it would have been about the same quality.

I went here for lunch with my cousin here and found they used way to much MSG. It was good though, I ordered take out a few days later and was blown away. It was so delicious.

Great Take-Out. I usually avoid pho take-out and only eat it when I've got the time to sit in, but the last two days I've had Pho Vuong for lunch and we took it to-go... I have to say... VERY YUMMY! We had the #14 (Steak Pho), #22 (Garlic Pork Salad Roll with Shrimp Sauce), and #37 (Grilled Shrimp and Lemon Grass Pork), and #49 (Grilled Prawns over ice). and everything tasted great, the beef didn't under/over cook which can happen with travel time and the broth cooling down, the salad rolls were fresh & well made, and everything else was yummy too! Can't really describe it in any other way! I highly recommend it :)

I'm new to Victoria (2days) and I have an obsession with Pho. So obviously my first order of business is to find me a new pho restaurant seeing how I eat it 2-3 a week. Now I love pho for 4 (maybe more) reasons. 1 it's inexpensive 2 it's a great immune booster 3 a great hang over cure an 4 a bowl of fresh aromatic bowl of pho can transform a bad day into a glorious day... The different herbs and spices dance on my tastes buds. Now knowing how much I love this soup I set off in search of the new place that will be inadvertantly be my second home. I started with the best rated which is this place. I was bitterly disappointed. The broth looked like water and tasted just the same. I've never had throw in so many herbs myself just to get a taste of something. The service was good but the chicken soup was the worst bowl I've ever tasted. I really hope it gets better from here. I'm not sure if I'll be able to last.

Delicious vermicelli bowls, great service. Friendly service, although can be slow when one employee working.

Grilled chicken vermicelli bowl is delicious. Lots of lemongrass but wish there was more chicken. Marinated well and so tasty. Spring rolls made with won ton wrappers not rice paper.

Take out is solid. A good pho joint for Victoria.

Best pho!. Best pho in town. Love it. number 33 and 32 amazing. Probably eat there twice a week

Absolutely Wonderful. I eat here every week. The service and staff are friendly, prompt and I feel so welcome when I come in! I usually get the Steak Pho. You need not wait too long either - usually ready so quickly! I love this restaurant. It's my favourite restaurant in Victoria. I don't want to write a review that's too good because then it might be too crowded when I go, but that's ok. Simply great.

Vietnamese restaurants here in the West have an unfortunate one dimensional, ubiquitous thing going on, mostly driven by pho. I recall from my travels through Vietnam the cuisine being much more wide-ranging, exciting, often fused with French themes. So assessing Vietnamese food here in Victoria really comes down to assessing the finer nuances of pho noodle soup . Pho Vuong's version of the dish is okay, the broth lacking zest and character, the noodles overcooked. Moreover, the thin slices of beef really need to be served rarer than Vuong serves them. Having said this, I've had worse pho in town, but I've also had better. A marginal thumbs up is my vote for this place. And an aside: nothing clears out the cholesterol-clogged Christmas intestinal pipes like a hot, spicy bowl of pho on Boxing Day, so even a marginal bowl of the stuff is a refreshing relief from the assault of holiday grease, gravy, sugar cookies and chocolate.

Great food! I had the vegetable spring rolls and steak pho which was very tasty, and my friend is a big fan of the seafood pho. We shared a deep fried banana with ice cream for dessert, yum. Good service and tasty food!

Good pho, good for takeout. This place rules for takeout. You can literally go in, make our order, and walk out with all the fixins for some delicious pho in a matter of like five minutes. I find most of the pho in town very similar, with slight differences, but Pho Vuong does a good job whether you eat in or get takeout. I think they are one of the few pho places that are licensed to sell alcohol, so that's a nice touch. They're open pretty late as well. The appetizers are all quite good and the pho is good and moderately priced, by pho standards.

The best pho in Victoria!. Nowhere else in Victoria can compete with the quality of Vietnamese food Pho Vuong is serving up. Not only are their portions the biggest, every item you can think of on the menu is done far better here than places like Green Leaf or Pho Vy. The staff is friendly, the interior is clean and classy.. there's no reason to go anywhere else for pho.
Hungry Hippo
Love it!. Best veggie pho ever! Friendly staff and great service too

Food Allergies. Similar with another food allergy review--my first experience with this place was when I ordered take out that unexpectedly had peanuts on top. Sadly I could barely eat half the dish even though it was quite tasty, but I had to throw most of it away.

Since the food tasted half decent, I decided to give it another chance and clearly specified "no peanuts because of my peanut allergies" when I ordered. Not impressed when peanuts showed up in my food AGAIN.

Good, but not quite meet expectations. I heard that Pho Vuong has the best noodle soup in Victoria. However, I think the chefs there may have had an off day. The soup base is not very delicious, seems like does not boil long enough to let off the taste of meat. Also, the rice noodles are cut up very short, and that affects the flavour of the noodle soup. The plates and utensils are dirty, though the efficient service makes up for this. Overall, this is definitely a good place for lunch and to relax. However, this would not be my first choice pho restaurant as there are few other better ones available nearby.

Yummy and great value!. After reading the reviews we tried Pho Vuong. I had the small chicken pho (which was huge) and my husband had the large steak pho (enormous!). We also split a garlic pork salad roll (with peanut sauce rather than shrimp due to a shellfish allergy). Everything was delicious, our waitress was friendly and helpful and the place was spotless. What a bargain for $23 tax included. We'll be sure to go again.

Best (Vietnamese) Food in Victoria!. After living in S. California for 10 years, where there is no end of excellent Vietnamese restaurants, we've been disappointed by the Vietnamese food we've had in Victoria...

But last night we ate a Pho Voung and it was wonderful! The food prepared by chef and owner Lai Le compares favorably with any restaurant in Orange County. We had the hot & sour vegetarian soup - a huge bowl that was absolutely delicious. The veggie and shrimp and pork rolls are also extremely tasty. And, as a special treat, order the fried tofu with ginger sauce (not on the menu at the moment).
The staff is extremely professional and friendly, the ambience pleasant and the prices are very affordable. - there's even a 20% discount until 3pm.

Don't hesitate - go now!
PandJ
Mmm noodle soup!. Went to Pho Vuong tonight for the first time. Must say my P and I were really impressed. P had the vegetarian Pho which also included a vegetarian broth (something other Vietnamese places in Victoria don't offer). And the spring rolls were delicious, almost as good as lumpia.

The service was good, but perhaps a little awkward since we were the only ones in the restaurant despite it being Friday at 6:00pm...

All in all this was a great place and if you like Vietnamese it's worth try instead of Vy or Hoa for sure.

-P & J

It is without a doubt the best Pho/Vietnamese restaurant in Victoria. If you have a craving for vietnamese food this is the place to go. It is conveniently located in Chinatown. Must try the Spring Rolls. Awesome!!!

Excellent, inexpensive Vietnamese food. Question -Where can 2 people eat delicious, filling food for under $19 (including tax) in Victoria?

Answer - Pho Vuong.

My husband had the Pho (Soup) Chicken. The regular size bowl was more than enough. I had the grilled, garlic, pork dish. Both were DELICIOUS! The server was lovely and the service was fast.

The menu isn't extensive, but if what we had represents the other dishes, then quality is better than quantity.
We are definitely going to eat there again.
