Review Cherries Breakfast Bistro - Victoria

I absolutely love this place. Server are very kind and helpful. Food is consistently delicious. The coffee is great as well, better than most coffee shops in Victoria. Every time I visit this place I end up with a huge smile on my face and a happy tummy.

Been meaning to try this place but hours are usually detrimental to my work shift. Service was fine except receiving a pitcher of ice cold water would have been more sufficient than receiving mason jars of lukewarm water. The perogies dish was good and clearly their best dish but the Boston clam chowder was very lackluster as it seemed very soupy with very little clams (very disappointing value for $11). The duck hash is okay but not memorable enough to reorder in subsequent visits. I came to try their savory breakfast menu. If I come again, I'll test their sweet breakfast menu. Decor is a weird mishmash of eclectic and tacky. The faux flowers in the vases look like decades old dollar store flowers that could at least be updated with modern dollar store flowers that look a smidge more realistic? Either way, the establishment has its own funny charm so I will return.

I used to live in the neighborhood and this was my go to, now i live 25 minutes away and it is still my go to. The servers are always kind, friendly and efficient. The food is incredible, can’t go wrong with the menno sausage (benny, bowl, anything) as well as the duck hash. Phenomenal

Awesome Lunch!! We often pop in, easy lication for lunch. We waited a OK length of time. We enjoyed the online ordering right at the till, no cashier. Friendly staff, great food.

Absolutely amazing breakfast and lunch spot, I love they version of all the classics. I love there breakfast poutine so much. Your choice of pulled beef or pork and believe me they don't let you down. An absolute must visit.

Amazing breakfast and lunch spot! My first go around I had the Clubhouse Chicken Sandwich and the Mennonite Sausage with Eggs Benedict the second. Both times were a treat and an experience on their own. Definitely coming back here when I am in town again. Thanks Cherry!

I haven’t been to Cherries in several years and decided to try it again. I don’t normally eat dairy but decided to have the Chocolate & Raspberry Infused German Pancakes because they were also gluten free. They were outstanding! I ate both out of pure gluttony! The menu has quite a few gluten free items and care was taken to prepare my meal. My visit was made even better by my server, Isabella, who gave me excellent service and recommendations. Per her suggestion, I tried the matcha chai latte. I think it’s my new favorite. I’ll definitely be back.

A lot of other breakfast places either have good drinks or good food, Cherries has both. The chai latte I got with my meal was the best I've had. The food was phenomenal, with so many amazing choices that I already have my meals planned for my next 3 visits. The pulled pork was phenomenal, the Mennonite sausage was outstanding, the rollkuchen were scrumptious. So many things here you can't get anywhere else. The staff are all super friendly and make you feel like a good friend. There are a LOT of breakfast spots in Victoria, and I've been to a very good number of them. If you only go to one of them, this is it. This is the best breakfast in Victoria.

Breakfast for two: $40ish Positive: large breakfast selection, good quantity amount of food (compared to the village), while maintaining deliciousness. Interior was homestead like, spacious and not cramp. Service was excellent. Negative: none Food for thought: come early to get better seats. Place get busy quick, so be patient because of limited number of staff. I highly recommend their breakfast pierogies.

Cherries Bistro is a wonderful restaurant. The food was delicious. It was a little bit colder than I would have liked personally, but the restaurant was busy, so I do understand. I enjoyed the atmosphere and they were playing great oldies music, but the music was a bit too loud. We ordered the Buffalo chicken Benny and the mushroom, spinach, and goatcheese with bacon added Benny. The hollandaise was homemade, creamy, and tasty. The eggs were poached perfectly. The only reason I am docking points for the service is because we had to wait a while to get water refills, and they served the water in tiny jars. My partner wasn't too impressed with this, but he's a big water drinker. The coffee was delicious. We enjoyed our visit. I want to mention that the parking isn't the greatest at this location. Especially when there was a mustang parked across 2 stalls right in front of the entrance to the restaurant. If I were the owner, I would have asked the patron to park properly. Anyways, you will like this place, they have an amazing selection of food.

Great meal and great customer service best breakfast place on the island in my opinion u gotta eat here!

Wow, what a delicious meal!! I was delighted with the wonderful meal Cherrie cooked up for me! I asked for some specifics and she was able to oblige and it as sooo good!! Also, the veg saute with it was the best serving of veggies I have had at any restaurant! Hubbie enjoyed his, too. All worth coming again and again for! Highly recommend!

Every item I have ordered, I have enjoyed. The hollandaise sauce is from scratch. Everything is well balanced and flavorful.

I will start by saying Cherries London Fog is amazing! Worth 10 stars all on its own. I have been for breakfast 3 times, and unfortunately that is where we lose a star. They give you good portion sizes, but the food has just been a bit bland. Still very edible, just missing a spice or sauce or something to give it that memorable flavour. Otherwise a reasonable breakfast. (Their homemade perogies are Very good.)

Two ebiking friends and I met here for lunch. I was disappointed that the management has installed self-serve terminals that must be used instead of ordering from a person. Although the one remaining counter staff was very friendly, and willing to explain the self-serve terminals, I found the atmosphere unwelcoming. This has discouraged me from returning, even though the food was nice. One of my friends felt the same way and the other, younger than us both, seemedvanbivalent.

We love coming here. We "elope" from the mother-in-law on Sunday mornings. We stumble in here half asleep to have our first coffee of the morning. The staff is verry understanding and help us through the fog so we can function as normal humans again. The food is prepared with class and looks great and tastes as good as it looks. There are innumerable ways to have your eggs, so a coffee first is needed to properly interpret the menu. We love coming here, or did I already say that. It is a bit on the expensive side but we'll worth it.

We really tried to like this restaurant and have tried several times and are now done. Coffee cold by the time you get your cream and sugar, had to ask three times but wouldn’t admit it was forgotten, always makes it seem like it’s on its way. Food cold by the time we got the utensils and condiments, again acted like it’s on its way and not forgotten. This restaurant has the potential to be great Because of the food with some changes to the service. Sometimes apologizing for your lack of promptness can go a long way. It shouldn’t be too much to ask for a hot Breakfast and coffee when you are paying top dollar.
Jaws
Food way good but greasy/oily. My brother in law asked for little to no oil or butter and the potatoes were swimming in oil. The bill was quite expensive , three adults and three kids was over $100. Would go back but ask for less oil.
Gastronomy
This is my favorite breakfast place.  I usually have the benny.  The Italian imported coffee they service is the best in Victoria, by the way.  Go Cherry.

Wish I could rate them higher- showed up around 12 after the big new years brunch rush and the kitchen was still killing it, going above and beyond. The food was amazing and on top of that, they brought us extra eggs we didn't even ask for because they thought they *might* have overcooked them; the original eggs were fine, but the ones they sent us were the most perfectly medium eggs I have ever had in a restaurant. Perfectly runny yolks but absolutely no snotty-ness! Every aspect of our meals were amazing; perfectly spicy corned beef hash, beautifully seasoned sausage, the amazing eggs, and perfectly balanced pancakes. On top of all that, the portions were huge! Amazing place, couldn't recommend more!
Lisa
I ordered the chowder , but was hesitant because it was 13 dollars . I thought for that much money it must be a huge bowl or at least bottomless .. .. much to my demise it wasn't either .. it was probably a half a cup of soup in a very shallow bowl .. a fellow patron also ordered the same soup and he told me as well how dissapointed he was too .. He said for that amount he should have ordered a meal ,at least then he would have been full and the money spent would have been justified. ..Ps If you want good food and excellent service and reasonable prices go to " The Village on West Saanich rd only a short drive from Cherries ..

Excellent breakfasts, the duck sausage & sweet potato hash is especially good. The option of sitting outside is nice. Coffee is good but not outstanding. The service model, as others have mentioned, is a bit confusing; I have a bit of trouble deciding upon a tip % until after the meal!<br/>Overall a solid breakfast, a true sit-down restaurant experience would have led to a 4 rating.

We had breakfast here last Saturday and were pleasantly surprised. A short walk from our home and we hadn't tried it despite living in the neighbourhood for a few years now. It was awesome. I had eggs Benedict to which I added bacon and caramelised onions. It was delicious. The English muffin was so crispy and the eggs were perfectly poached with beautiful orange yolks. The potatoes were nice pan fries seasoned with rosemary. My husband had the corned beef hash which he really enjoyed. We'll be returning

We went to the express side and had a grilled Cuban sandwich and an Americano coffee. The seats outside in the sun were really nice and the staff was friendly however the sandwich was just OK and the coffee came in a huge mug with way too much water. I think the coffee was probably good quality but was hard to tell as it was watered down. This place seems to have some good reviews so I'll try it again, maybe for Breakfast.
Thomasandfaythe
Dissapointed...went here when they first opened and it was good. .however things have changed and not for the better. .I have to agree with previous reviews the service model is unsatisfactory. .you get seated but then are supposed to place your order at the counter. .and pay right away. ..how do I determine the tip without having received any service???..after having placed the order I had to line up at another counter to get our beverages. ..they serve cappuccinos in large mug style cups. .but only fill it 3/4 at the most. .making for a poor presentation. ..part of the routine here is to get the cutlery from a common service station. .I took what I needed and no kidding the whole tray of it was dirty. .not just stained but obviously never saw the dishwasher. .I was suprised that when I told the cashier that she didn't immediately pull that tray. .but she didn't. .really? ??<br/>since I had already paid for our food I didn't just wanted to abandon my 40$ order and opted to use the plastic cutlery they had for take out. .once the food arrived. .yes it was served. .it was fine. .not outstanding but OK. .<br/>for us going out for breakfast is not just about the food but about the whole experience. .and this one just leaves a bad taste in our mouths. .<br/>sorry cherries I know you can do better and wish you did!

Our first visit to Cherries was a very enjoyable experience. Attentive staff, nice atmosphere, and most importantly delicious food! We've been in search of a replacement breakfast place for Cabin 12, I think we've found it.
Brad
Food is good but service model is weird and confusing. Either make it full service or self service, but not a hybrid where you bring me my food but I get my own napkins and am expected to somehow intuitively know that the coffee I ordered comes up not at the counter where I ordered it but at the other one around the corner. If they would only change that I'd give it a 5. As it is, 3.5.

Love this place! It's a weekly affair. <br/>Great food, reasonable prices. <br/>If you ask my daughter when she wants to go, it's always Cherries! <br/>
The Grateful Gourmond
Nothing special. If your looking for a basic breakfast with a fancy name this place is ok. I was hoping for more but you get average fare at average price with the disadvantage of having to serve yourself. The décor is nice and the people pleasant but I would not drive out of my way. Just another place for breakfast.
Ang
Cute place, terrible service. Stopped by for breakfast and it took over 40 minutes for my order to come up. That is ridiculous for scrambled eggs, toast, bacon and potatoes. It's really not worth the wait.
Brite38
Not senior or kid friendly per say. Stopped in with my senior grandmother and 1 yr old son. Me u was great But..... Confusion on ordering ..... Grab your own cutters and carry to your own table ? Seriously? The. Don't charge regular prices of a full restaurant . No water at the water pitcher. High chair was old and heavy and awkward for us to move. Will only try again if thing a change. Food was great though
Diner
Peninsula diner. Nice place, good food, friendly staff -BUT - total confusion on the order process. They need to change the system before I would go back I am afraid. Also very difficult to get a coffee refill. You have to go up and ask for it. Why not leave out a full jug for self top ups?
Dallas
Top notch food. If you're looking for a friendly atmosphere and outstanding food then look no further. The menu has something for everybody. Say hi to to the owner Cherry, she is super friendly and loves to get to know her guests! Highly recommended.

The front cashier was not friendly and resistant to any additions, not even changes to adding stuff to the order, it was very complicated. The service model makes for a confusing atmosphere for both customers and servers. I witnessed a number of times food being brought to the wrong tables, myself and the person I was with were brought the wrong food, twice. The sever was doing laps around the restaurant trying to figure out who had what. The cook had to come out and apologize for running out of batter. The people were actually really nice, just confused because of the weird service. The food was ok, potatoes were under seasoned and under cooked. The water, which you have to get yourself. Tastes like plastic WOULD NOT recommend if you're not a big meat eater since substitutions were such an issue. Overall bad experience. Probably won't be coming back.

5 strikes and Cherries is out.. I have been to Cherries on more than a couple occasions. It is nice to have a breakfast cafe in the area as there isn't much else in the neighbourhood. However, they have not fully impressed me to date. I seem to keep going there expecting changes but leaving disappointed every time. <br/><br/>The service: The counter service order system bothers me a little as you are still paying full brunch/lunch prices and tipping the full gratuity yet not receiving the same standard of service you would had you just gone across the street to somewhere like the Crooked Goose. Last time I went we waited in line to order for 10 minutes then were given our disgusting and chewed up plastic fruit marker (to signify your order) for the table and had a seat. It then took over SIXTY minutes to get the food (after my friend complained about the wait twice) We watched other tables getting frustrated with the wait times and sending back food or having one meal brought while everyone else waited. I see from other reviewers that this is a consistent issue there as well. The server didn't apologize for the wait and said only that we should have been told there was a 40 minute wait for food. Fair enough, but first, we weren't told and second, I feel that to be an inappropriately long wait time for a so called restaurant. The kitchen seems as if it's not properly equipped to handle the volume of patrons that the restaurant fits. <br/>The food: Well. The first time I went, it was good. I got eggs benedict and hashbrowns. We enjoyed the hash with the fresh herbs and veg and the bennies were good. From there it got worse and worse, greasier and smaller. I have ordered the same thing a couple times and the grease from the hash is outrageous. On one occasion my partner ordered the "mennonite sausage on a bun" and it was a sloppy mess. It was a big greasy sausage stuffed in a HAMBURGER bun. Picture trying to eat a hot dog in a hamburger bun. How ridiculous would you feel? Another occasion we tried the duck sausage which were two small, dry, hard, flavourless patties with a side of greasy sweet potato hash. It's quite a feat to suck all the fat from duck by the way, and thats not really a good thing. Another time I ordered the burger which was, you guessed it, overly greasy. It was stuffed with cheese and then cooked in grease and mounded up on a greasy bun with bacon and veg. <br/>So why do I keep going back? Like I said, its the only place in the area that has the same type of diner feel. Plus I like to give places a fair shot and not just write them off after one visit but honestly its no longer worth it. Not worth the time waiting, the money spent, or the grease indigestion later.

Do you like anything?Good!. I love this place. The Decor the music the people the service, and best of all the food is great. I'm an extremely picky Eater, and often ask to vary my order from the menu. Not only is what's on their menu great (omelets pancakes and their cinnamon buns are delightful) but when I ask for no mayo extra bacon, or less yogurts more granola, or whatever really, the cook happily produces and I happily eat. Plus they refill my coffee and the owner is there every day insuring quality and chatting up the regulars.

Make sure you have plenty of time and are okay with high prices for self-service. Went for a bowl of soup today and had to leave with it in a cardboard container after waiting for 45 minutes. $6.50 for a bowl of borscht came out of the kitchen as I was asking for a refund as I had to get back to class. It was very salty and a small portion. Not impressed.
April Ray-Peterson
While the food was really good it took an hour to get it and of the 3 at our table none of our meals came at the same time. Parts of one meal even came out at different times which just seems odd. One of our meals got sent to the wrong table so having somewhere to be we had to take it to go after 70 minutes in total. I have been here a few times before and enjoyed the food but the service or lack thereof leaves a lot to be desired. It seems there are always staffing issues which I get but in my opinion that should never affect the customer and overall experience. I'll only return if I have no where to be and am ok with waiting over an hour for food...

Wow - What a surprise!. This place is an incredible surprise. It's a little funky and little retro but the food is amazing and the portion size will make your eyes widen in astonishment! I had their turkey and spinach sandwich. OMG it was so good and flavourful, I've never had anything that has come even close to this one. I would encourage everyone to give this place a try. I'll definitely be back for more.

Awesome!!. Stopped in for some brunch today and just loved it. I love the atmosphere and had the Shrimp, avocado and bacon benny. It was absolutely delicious. Would definitely recommend Cherries. You can tell that the owner really cares.

Best Brunch Bistro We've Eaten In. The four of us all agreed that this was the best brunch bistro any of us have ever been to in Victoria. The portions are huge, the prices reasonable, the atmosphere quirky, and the whole experience just the best. Cherries Breakfast Bistro is a bit out-of-the-way, but definitely worth a visit.<br/>I ordered Eggs Benny with ham but received bacon by mistake. When I mentioned this to our server she offered to go get me a replacement with ham. I declined, she persisted, I again declined and thought that was the end of it. I was only a few bites into my meal when our server returned with a full 'new' Eggs Benny with ham!! What a surprise! She apologised profusely, smiling the whole time, and said "Our customers are important to us and we want to make sure they are always happy with the service and their meal". What a refreshing attitude. <br/>We'll definitely return and bring others with us.

Fresh, yummy, delish & charming. Stopped by here on our way out of town... Yummy to say the least. Self serve... Which is fine with us. Had eggs benny & pulled pork poutine (yes you read that right). The eggs are farm fresh. They thought they had done them wrong (when they hadn't, they were perfection) and brought us two brand new delicious eggs smothered in some of the best hollindaise I have ever had. The pulled pork is fabulous, sweet & a little spicy. Oh, and the coffee is fantastic. Top notch food & sweet servers.

They deserve your business.. I was in Victoria to pick up a friend from the hospital. Cherries is open early, so I thought I'd give it a try. There was a minor hiccup with my breakfast, but the owner's response is the reason for this review. The speed and grace shown to me in this restaurant surpasses any recent service experience in my memory. The owner wants your repeat business, and it shows. Judge for yourself, and if you have a problem with your meal, give them a chance to make it right. You will be pleasantly surprised. (My breakfast was tasty and fast btw)

Nomnomnom. Food was delicious and quick, atmosphere and setup was a bit weird at first. Definitely worth a go if you're looking for a good eggs benny.

Family friendly. Lots of room.. We have been customers since it opened and I can say that they have finally gotten their service and food quality consistent. Ample portions, good flavour, faster service. recommend the Mennonite sausage dishes and espresso (Umbria).

First off I have read a few of the reviews and I must say that bistro means counter top service and not table service.<br/>I have been to this wonderful establishment a few times and found everything to be very consistent and very tasty.<br/>owner and staff are all very friendly and go out of their way to help you.<br/>I give this place 2 thumbs up<br/>and the best coffee I had <br/>I highly recommend this little piece of heaven

Fanatastic meal. My friends and I ate there last week and enjoyed the meal, service and <br/>atmosphere very much. They where very busy but the food was well<br/>worth waiting for and such large portions. Everyone we saw took home<br/>a meal for the next day. The prices where in comparison with Denny`s<br/>and everything is made from scratch. Will be going there again soon...<br/> Terry

Wouldn't recommend. We had heard this was a good place to try. The prices seemed a bit high for self serve but we kept open minded. The staff at the till are very friendly. The food was in general not good at all. Collectively we thought everything was "mushy and sloppy". I had the turkey saandwich, granted I didn't get the cranberry sauce which may have added flavour however the bread was "wet" and was greasy not with butter not sure what, the turkey was plentiful but had not taste, must say the salad it came with was good. My daughter ordered Eggs Benedict with eggs soft and they came hard, so the server asked if she'd like them soft so we said yes, she said do you want hollandaise sauce and we said yes (whats an egg benney withoutsauce) the sauce was cold, and the potatoes were burnt, the english muffin didn't seem toasted. My husband ordered the pulled pork hot dog which was fine however his potatoes were also burnt. We wouldn't go back.
Kathrine
Yummy. First time here. It was good, I want to go back and try the sweet breakfast options. They look amazing!

Underwhelmed by service and execution. I've rated here several times and service and food is is seldom consistent. One thing that is consistent is their inability to toast English muffins so they change colour ie are in fact toasted! I sent mine bank and waited over 10 mins for its return in pretty much same state, slathered with butter and cold. Eggs were perfect. Way too much "seasoning" on hashbrowns. <br/>Not a fan off service model.
Heather B
Omg! Delicious food!! My only complaint is the order at the counter serve yourself idea. For the prices they charge there should be wait staff or atleast a hostess to explain the process to the customers who don't understand where the condiments or cutlery are and that they have to grab their own menus and seat themselves and order at the till. We managed but I saw a lot of people looking pretty confused...
Achtznerchris
Terrible. We had visited Cherries once before and after getting the gist of the service model and experiencing a good breakfast we thought we'd go again. <br/><br/>I ordered the Big Boss brekky and my partner ordered the special Xmas Benny. I'll start with the 'Boss', worst breakfast I've had in Victoria. The toast was rock hard and obviously cold, how the cooks didn't see that is beyond me, it was so cold the butter didn't melt and so hard my mouth vibrated when I bit into it. The order was pieced together with different things arriving at different times, sausage was lukewarm and had no taste to it at all. One egg arriving, then another arriving 5 minutes later, no explanation from the service staff at all. I left 80% of the food uneaten on the plate, for what we paid, and compared to our first visit it was horrible.<br/><br/>My partner had the Xmas Benny, eggs totally under-poached, one english muffin toasted, the other sort of toasted. We both had Americano's, my partner approached the counter person for a bit of a warm up for the coffee and was informed that "we don't do that here", she actually argued with my partner, we were blown away. We spent $35 for breakfast, had to ask for a cloth to clean the table, and then we have to argue with the counter person fior a coffee warm-up? <br/><br/>I understand this service model, but essentially what Cherries is doing is passing the buck to their customers when things don't go right. I read a reply from the owner which stated they operate under a different model of service which is fine if the food is good, but unfortunately this time it was horrible, and the limited interaction with the staff provided absolutely no comfort or resolution to any of these issues. A heartily sarcastic "bon appetite"! Oh, and the person working the counter - your in the customer service business, look it up if you don't know what that means.

YuM!. Went to this lovely bistro for the third time, and I am hooked! I had a custom omelet that was to die for and they were sure to take my every detail into account (and I am one of those picky people...) My friend had the pulled pork benny, that I just had to steal a taste from and it was beyond delicious! The staff were amazing, really attentive and came by to make sure we were enjoying our meal, so I am not sold on what was written below, especially considering in the three times we've been here, even when super busy, it has been the same great service (and great food!). My only complaint is that it is quite far from where I live in James Bay... if I lived closer, I'd likely be there 4 times a week (if not daily). Kudos to amazing food at an amazing price- I have high standards and rarely go out for breakfast in Victoria anymore because I am often pretty disapointed with what I get, as I said, this is my third time and I really consider it worth the drive and will be back again (lots!) Considering opening one in James Bay?

First time visiting. Walked in the door and the place looked full. Stood there for a few moments and wasn't acknowledged by staff at the counter. Realized it was counter-service so I picked up a menu and selected a breakfast bagel to go since there seemed to be no seating. Was never told that there were tables in back. Was we've asked if I would like a table. For the uninitiated, having someone greet you at the door and explain the procedure would be helpful. As I waited for my order (wasn't told how long it would be, not even an approximation) I realized there was no place to sit and wait for to-go orders. Ended up sitting at the outside tables which , in mid-December, is only bearable for so long. Went back inside and continued to wait for my sandwich. Finally brought my food wrapped in a foil wrapped. Not in a bag or a container. No napkins, no condiments. Nothing offered. Nothing mentioned so I don't even know if anything was available anyways. Customer service is lacking to say the least. Why would they have a cashier there to take your $$ but not have table service when they apparently have servers anyways? Wouldn't a hostess to seat people and take reservations make more sense? And couldn't the barista that's just standing there do the job the cashier is doing? Seems rather unorganized. I wonder how many other people have found te same thing when they first went in and just walked out the door? As for the sandwich, it was ok but messy and a napkin would've been nice! If I go back, I'll be sure to make a reservation and eat-in because I would've gotten better take-out service from any fast food drive-thru window.

All the negative reviews are a bit suspicious when they all seem to direct people to a neighbouring restaurant who, by all appearances, seem to have immitated Cherries Breakfast Bistro straight down to the colors on their sign. I for one, will continue to rave about the amazing food and service, fun atmosphere and funky decor and will continue to refer family and friends to this breakfast hot spot regardless of the reviews online. This bistro is busy for a reason folks and it is because the food is awesome!
Georgeofjungle
Not worth the high cost. Well this place in a nutshell is overpriced and over-rated. I live in the neighbourhood and often find myself looking for a place to eat. I have eaten here a number of times and thought that the I was just catching them at a bad time. .or maybe they were just having an off day.. But the bad service was consistent, The stand up service. Waiting 20 minutes for someone to refill my coffee only to discover that they dont do that here.. You have to stand up,. go back to the counter (coffee area) and do this yourself.. Oh.. and yes of course, pay full service prices.. My recommendation.. Go somewhere else.. Sit and enjoy your meal

One of the worst bennies I have ever had. Ordererd medium poached one was hard one was soft no hollandaise on it asked for more I had to get it from the kitchen my self and it was refrigerator temp with no flavor and the English muffin was not even toasted . I will not be going back the crooked goose across the street beets the hell out of it for price and service.

Love this place!. How could I have not been to Cherries before now? Loved it. All of it. Coffee was great, interesting interior, music, and delicious food. Really tasty, fresh, homemade and unique. Cherrie figured out a special meal to suit my food allergy. She and staff checked on us several times during our meal. Can't wait to come back again-- my new favourite place!
Anita

Outstanding breakfast!!. I'm a huge eggs benny fan; this was hands down the best one I have ever had!

Amazing Gluten Free breakfast sandwich ... Delicious .... Soooooo good , will drive all the way from Fairfield to try the other great menu items!!

Mmm, coffee so good..... I live in Saanich, and it's virtually impossible to find a place in the area that sells really good brewed coffee. Until now, that is. On a whim and tickled a bit by the "We serve Italian coffee!" sign, I stopped yesterday at Cherries Bistro and bought a large cup. The taste was transcendent (ok, maybe a bit hyperbolic, but relative to other establishments in the area, it's warranted), and the price was reasonable (again, compared to local competitors). I'll definitely go back for the coffee, and maybe bring the family along for brunch on a Sunday morning.
Mike
Sadly, disappointing.... With the promising reviews of Cherries’ food, and tired of long waits to get in for brunch in Victoria, we decided to give Cherries a try. In hindsight, we should have visited one of our regular spots...<br/><br/>Cherries does offer an inviting atmosphere, with tasteful décor, up beat music, and friendly staff that makes you feel welcome. Then, they take your order and that’s where the welcome feeling stops.<br/><br/>Generally, I’m a fan of the “café (ie. Cafeteria) approach,” having frequented such places in my hometown of Seattle. Where Cherries differs is that water, beverage refills, cutlery service are self-service, and you have to wait in line with other customers for your refill of coffee. You can make reservations for full table service a day in advance, where those services are provided for free. Would it be that much of a hindrance and an increase to fiscal overhead to have someone circulate with a pot of coffee?<br/><br/>I ordered the bacon pancakes with ruhrei (Mennonite scrambled eggs), and my partner ordered the Breakfast poutine (pulled pork, poached egg, on a bed of pan fried potatoes with poutine).<br/><br/>It took just a little over 50 minutes for our dishes to make their way out of the kitchen... and only after we noticed that customers who had arrived after us were being served their food, before us.<br/><br/>The bacon pancakes were sadly very disappointing. They were very heavy, almost the consistency of a biscuit, soggy bacon, and no flavor. The ruhrei were not the typical Mennonite scrambled eggs that I’m familiar with. Instead, they were normally fluffy scrambled eggs with butter and maple syrup... somewhat tasty, but not what I had expected.<br/><br/>My partners breakfast poutine also had similar results. While the pulled pork had a good taste and the potatoes were seasoned well, some of the potatoes were burned and the poutine had a slightly burned flavor, which overpowered the rest of his dish. The hollandaise on the poached egg was cold.<br/><br/>No one checked in after our meals were brought to us to see how we enjoyed the food. Rather, instead of risking further delays by complaining, we ate and left. Back to our regular spots for brunch

Amazing FOOD!. Finally a restaurant that uses spices & makes their own sauces! Cherries Breakfast Bistro creates amazing dishes & the service is relaxing.

Came here with family. Food took forever to arrive. My Benny, which I had ordered soft poached, was hard and rubbery. The tortilla's on my husbands huevos rancheros were soggy and covered in so much salt and paprika they were inedible. Mother-in-law's pancakes were very dry. Only dish that was fine was the French toast. There are way better places for brunch in Victoria--will be going elsewhere next time.

Sundays. My Sunday pleasure. Service is a little slow... but the food is great.

Great find. In a brunch obsessed city competition is stiff but Cherries easily breaks the Top 10. Really lined the homemade breakfast sausages; a good amount of spice brings out a subtle sweetness of thyme. Really enjoyed the pancakes, not your typical bland minute-made badder. Had to read the menu four times before I settled on The Big Boss but I'll be back to try more. Can't wait to try the club an the breakfast pasties looked terrific.

Love this joint. Great vibe, classy but unpretentious atmosphere and excellent food. A little pricier than your average lunch spot, but this ain't your average diner! Will be back to try the breakfast offerings!

Excellent presentation and quality food. My husband had the bison burger stuffed with goat cheese and I had the eggs benny. Couldn't decide which I liked better as they were outstanding. I highly recommend Cherries Breakfast Bistro and can't wait to go back to sample other items from their amazing menu.

Luv U Cherry!. As my neighbourhood breakfast place, I keep trying other spots and keep coming back.<br/>Bistro style service, so you order and pay up front, gather your water, cutlery and napkins and then sit and wait for your food. If its busy, it might be a bit longer wait, but service is usually pretty good. Food portions are modest but filling- we often bring leftovers home from other places, but usually manage the just right portions at Cherrie's.<br/><br/>The freshest ingredients, smiling staff and the best baked goods.<br/><br/>Particular favourites from our regular munchy list:<br/>Menno Benny- that mennonite sausage really "schmecks gut!"<br/>Pulled pork Breakfast Poutine- to die for!<br/>Cinnamon sticky buns- big enough to share or for breakfast on their own.<br/>And be sure to substitute the sweet potato hash for the regular potato wedges or hash brown! YUMMY!<br/><br/>If you go, blow a kiss to Cherry, the owner, who is usually busy baking! Tell ehr Dr. Lori sent you!

Always an enjoyable experience. I have been there a couple times now and I am still very impressed with the food. The self serve thing threw me the first time. Having to get cutlery, condiments, napkins etc after already picking a table was annoying. However when I went back I knew what to expect and really enjoyed the self serve aspect. The waitstaff and kitchen are all very friendly. The owner herself came to ensure everything was to our satisfaction. I will continue to go back as the food is quite tasty, reasonably priced, and the atmosphere is perfect for a quick brunch!

Wow!!! Absolutely delightful breakfasts, good sized portions, friendly atmosphere and staff. Definitely a pleasant experience I can't wait to repeat : )

Not impressed with the high chair, very old and unsafe. No straps and nothing keeping him from falling out the bottom. Loved the food though and it's a shame we couldn't stay to enjoy it. We had to pack it up and ate it when we got home. <br/>Great cafe for people without young children!

Disappointing GF options. I decided to try this Bistro base on the description in the Entertainment Booklet coupon that indicated that it had a menu for people suffering with allergies. When we arrived, no one greeted us, I picked up the menu and nothing on it was GF nor was there any indication of GF options. I asked the lady at the till regarding GF and egg-free options and all she told me was they had GF bread. There was no offer of a GF menu or suggestions of options so I sat down again to review the menu. When I thought I had something I could eat, I waited patiently while two of the servers behind the till helped one lady and again a different server offered me no options nor did she seem interested in helping me. I felt frustrated by the experience and unwelcomed. If a restaurant indicates being Allergy friendly and having a GF menu, then I would have expected a menu to have been offered to me or the very least located near the regular menu. I would recommend other food allergy suffers to not go to this bistro unless you confirm before leaving that they do in fact have what you need. Needless to say, I felt it was a waste of my time.

My boyfriend and I are visiting Victoria for the weekend and decided to venture to Cherries. I had eggs Benny and he had an omlet. The food was awesome, great portions for both of us. At 10.95 each the eggs Benny was quite a bit smaller, I would have priced it 1-2$ less, but for his omlet it was definitely worth it. The staff were polite and friendly, and the owner (I think) was adorable. Very passionate and loves her business. The decor was a little scattered, urban, but bistro styled... we liked the bistro style of serving, We would go back for sure :)

Not worth the $$ spent. The Lack of service, the wait time and size of portions did not warrant the $17.00 I paid for breakfast
Andrea
Someone call 9-1-YUM! Beautiful, affordable, and delicious food. Great atmosphere, and friendly staff. Love it!
David
Excellent. I have been there quite a few times and I always leave with a smile. The staff is friendly and the food is amazing and creative. I highly recommend that you go and try Cherries out!

Great Food...Where's The Service?!. I'll start with the positive. We tried the Duck N' Hash and the Breaky Poutine, both were absolutely amazing. Considering Cherries is in a strip mall with a cafeteria/coffee shop look and feel, we certainly did not expect food of this caliber. Hats off to the Chef!<br/>Now for the not so positive. <br/>Step 1: Stand in a line-up to order your food and pre-pay for it (?)<br/>Step 2: Take a plastic piece of fruit so the servers can identify you at the table that you choose (yes, you also seat yourself)<br/>Step 3: When your food arrives, get up and hunt down some cutlery because you are expected to get that yourself too (this is unacceptable) <br/>Step 4: Decided you want some coffee? Stand in line again and pay once again...(who's idea was this?)<br/>Step 5: Get up once again and get your own water from a water cooler (yes that's right...a water cooler)<br/>Step 6: Want a coffee refill? Get one yourself, go up to the front one again and request one (feels a bit like Oliver Twist we found)<br/>When there is a floor manager and 3 servers, yet we are expected to serve ourselves, this place lands an epic fail for service. <br/>The food was the ONLY redeeming thing about this place.

Fabulous food & coffee!. What a wonderful find. I have had brunch here a few times and have never been disappointed, however the mouth watering menu does make it a bit difficult to decide what to order. Prices are good, especially for the quantity and quality. The staff are friendly, and Cherrie the diners as friends.<br/> It is also so nice to go to a restaurant that serves a great cup of coffee (I highly recommend a long-shot cafe latte!)
Laura
Stellar place for a great Breakfast!. -If you are in the vicinity or want to try a great new place for Breakfast or lunch- try here. The atmosphere is warm and friendly, and the tables cozy and good to visit in.<br/>-The food is always piping hot and tantilizingly presented. The portions are generous and the menu varied and appealing.<br/>-I had the Huevos Rancheros which was zesty with real quacamole. It was a huge portion, complete with ham on the side. My husband chose an omlette which was hot, fresh and yummy.<br/>-I found out you can reserve ahead for table service if you are so inclined. Otherwise you just place your order at the counter.<br/>-try the baking (especially the cinnamon buns) or take it home as a treat.<br/>Well done and the the best place around Interurban and Wilkinson.

Great place!. We tried Cherries today with a Couvon and really enjoyed it. The owner was a doll, and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The drip coffee was great, and my husband had an americano which he said was amazing. Our 1 year old daughter started to fuss, and a staff member rushed out with a little plate of crackers to occupy her, which sweet and effective! Our breakfasts were delicious. We'll be back, as I'm interested to try the Mennonite sausage, duck sausage and some pretty stunning looking baking. They do coffees and baking to go, so we'll be replacing our Starbucks runs with Cherries!<br/><br/>One comment is that a kids menu would be really great! Although we ordered the big breakfast and there was certainly enough to share.

Fabulous Bistro. Difficult to choose from the interesting menu as everything is so unique. Don't be afraid to pull into the strip mall behind the gas station because Cherries is a gem worth searching out. Friendly and efficient staff who greet regular customers by name plus the owner is always up for a chat and welcomes suggestions. Mennonite sausage shipped in from Winnipeg (I believe) - try it! Great coffee and the muffins are made from scratch, not from a mix. I had a Portobello & roasted pepper pannini for lunch & along with the mushroom soup, felt I received great value for my money. Now that I've found it, I'm going to be a 'regular', too.

I recently moved near Cherries and today after reading some reviews decided to try it out. I found the prices a little steep and the girl that took my order was not particularly friendly. My boyfriend got the club house sandwich. The flavor was good but all in all it was pretty dry. I ordered the nutella french toast, the menu said it came topped with whipped cream which was what I was most looking forward too. Unfortunately mine didn't and because my order was to go I didn't notice until I got home. This may sound minor but it really was a disappointment and because of this we probably wont be returning.

Worth the trip. Cherries Breakfast Bistro is a bit of a drive if you are in the Inner Habour area of Victoria, but it's worth it. The food is fresh, and delicious (especially the light and fluffy blueberry pancakes). The service is good, the atmosphere relaxing. If you are looking for somewhere relaxing to start your day, this is the place to go.

Breakfast. Third try ... and another hit. Service is still a bit sluggish, but the wait is worth it. Bennies are perfect; hollandaise just the right amount of tart. Had the breakfast wrap this morning and could barely push myself away from the table - eggs were letter perfect, fluffy and extremely fresh (this from someone who raises chickens!). The coffee is excellent. A great treat all the way around.

Amazing food, came for my birthday lunch, amazing service, Defintly a 10/10!

Fabulous!. Fabulous breakfast sandwich made by the owner! Layers of breakfast deliciousness oozing out: cheese, egg, spinach, tomato, real grilled ham, & sauce on a toasted bagel. Thanks Cherries

Not the best place, Don't go!. I was very disappointed with the quality of service from this Bistro. The owner Cherrie I believe, I found to be rude and a bit overly arrogant. I ordered my favorite breakfast food of all time, eggs benny. The eggs arrived cold and overly runny, the hollandaise sauce was bland and tasted a bit vinegary. Paying up front is definitely a problem as it limits the opportunity for discounts due to bad service and tasteless food. My friend ordered a muffin and it was super dry. She commented that perhaps it was a three day old muffin disguised as freshly baked. I have noticed that others who have the same problem review are replied to as if this is a new business venture, however, the collegue who recommended this Bistro to me, informed me of her previous ten year experience in the food industry. It is difficult for me to believe that 'giving us room to train' is a viable reason for bad service and subpar fare. Clearly smart business practice is to train, perfect and deliver quality. First impressions are vital in this industry. I will not be returning, this breakfast is not worth free.
Dave
Sorry to say overpriced and you don't a great amount of food.

OH MY GOD!!! We stopped in on a whim and we will be forever grateful. I had the pulled poulet Jenny while my wife had the Asian wrap and they were so incredible. The staff was great as well. I couldn't recommend this place more. Don't walk...run. We know where to get a great breakfast now and so do you. 5 stars!!

My neighbourhood hangout!. I've been enjoying Cherrie and her great food nearly every weekend for months now. Strong dark roast coffee, the best Sticky Bun in town, and breakfasts that fill me up until dinner. Try one of the eggs benny selections- or have the chef make my favourite- The "Menno Benny"- not on the menu, but hearty Mennonite sausage with the usual benny fixings. Another favourite? The peanut butter and banana french toast- unique twist on my childhood comfort food. I am not one for hash browns, but on my lucky days, they make sweet potato hash and I love that instead. Cafeteria style counter service may not be fancy, but Cherrie and her staff always make me and my friends feel welcome. My only fearis that her food will become too popular and there won't be a Sticky Bun left for me!

Inconsistent food. Last Sunday, Father's Day I went to Cherries for the very first time. It was heavenly. The scrambled eggs were done to perfection - moist, light and very tasty. The bacon and toast were done well, warm and I couldn't believe I had finally found the perfect breakfast place. Today, Saturday, I took my visiting son as he loves a good breakfast out. It was a completely different experience. I ordered exactly the same thing. The scrambled eggs were not well mixed (lots of white throughout), and they were very dry. The bacon was burned and the toast cold. How disappointing! Here I thought I had found a place to go out for breakfast and reliably get great food and now I am back searching for my breakfast spot. Maybe it was two different chefs, but whatever, if I can't rely on it being great, it is not worth the trip to that part of town.

Great atmosphere! Lovely staff and fabulous London fogs ;)

Treated Well Every Day. Those of us at Interurban and Strawberry Vale are making Cherries Breakfast Bistro a regular stop - BECAUSE THE FOOD & COFFES/TEAS ARE FANTASTIC! Classic Eggs Benny and Stuffed Pancake, Breakfast Wrap amoung the best breakfasts we have been served. People talk about the potatoes - check out the effort taken to create these perfected morsels that acoompany almost every breakfast - if not, "ask" for the side! The Chai Latte and Latte are perfect every time and I am disappointed now if I find myself out of the area when the urge strikes. Cherry herself is inspirational; a single mother of four & grandmother; take the time to talk to her yourself and discover this woman does not believe in negativity. PERIOD. Her baking is astounding and the entire experience at the BISTRO is casual and "drop-in" style. Get used to it and you'll love it. I love to pay up front - becasue I can leave when I need to. Everything that occurs here - works. If your meal isn't awesome - tell Cherry why! Its a new establishment and she's always there (starting her day at 3 am typically!) - SEE WHAT HAPPENS.

Hidden Gem. My fiance and I went to Cherries for the second time and it was just as good as the first time. I had the Cheeseburger soup, which was very flavourful and filling. He had the turkey sandwich and reported that "it tasted healthy", but he ate every last bit of it, so I guess he liked it. <br/>The atmoshere is cool and interesting and the space looks very clean. You have to walk up to the counter to give your order, and pre-pay, which caused a little confusion for us the first time, but the staff were friendly and helpful.<br/>I probably drove by Cherries a hundred times, and I had assumed it was just a cafe of some sort. But I am glad I discovered the truth, because the food is amazing and the service is great. It a bonus that I live so close. :)

High expectations. For some reason I had high expectations for this place because of the reviews. The whole time we were there the service was inadequate. We were never asked how our meals were. Maybe this was because we had already tipped at the beginning since we had to pay upfront. Also once we were given our meals we were waiting around for our cutlery to come. We were not told that we had to get our own cutlery. <br/><br/>We started with a chai latte and it was very good. Perfect amount of spice and everything. I ordered french toast with berries and whip cream and the person I was with ordered a cranberry turkey sandwich. The french toast was very bland. It seemed as though bread was only dipped in egg. I prefer some cinnamon or sugar or something to give it some flavour. When the menu said berries I assumed that they would be fresh whole berries. When it came out it was more like a jam on top that was not sweet enough. I was very unimpressed and didn’t come close to finishing my meal (which is very odd for me, especially when its french toast!).<br/><br/>Im not sure if it was my high expectations that made me so disappointed with this place, but Im sad to say that I don't think I will be going back.

Best food in Victoria. I've been here twice now, and both times I've been treated to mouth-watering meals that positively ooze with fantastic taste, and are large enough to satisfy even even the hungriest appetite. The first visit I had the pancake wrap, and the second visit I had a pulled pork burger, which, if you haven't tried it yet, you owe it to yourself to try! Definitely the best pulled pork I've ever tasted. With great ambience, a fun atmosphere, and the best food in Victoria, what's there not to love about this place? I just wished I lived closer so I could visit more often.
Greg
Excellent Benny! Very good bistro but can't touch Urban Cup. In our neighbourhood tho so very convenient.

I love the food and the prices are reasonable. I do wish there was the to go counter and waitresses for the dine in aspect. I hate dining in and ordering at a counter and paying up front. Especially with a tip option. How do I decide what to tip before I eat? Depending on the counter service, I give nothing or max 5%. Also, I wish you had a kids menu. Overall, I like your bistro. I think it's an awesome idea and I LOVE that you are a small local business. I like to support you rather than big franchises.

2nd visit a disappointment. I felt the need to update my original glowing review after a second far less pleasant visit. <br/><br/>We decided to take my Mom and Dad there for Mother's Day. It was hopping busy but we managed to find a table easily and ordered. <br/><br/>Well, 2, yes 2 hours later we got our simple breakfast for 4 people. Ridiculous! Only to have Cherry (I think that's the owner's name) come by to check on us and tell us that they were expediting ALL reserved table orders over everyone else. Wow, way to make all of your customers important. My apologies for not taking 30 seconds to make a phone call. So not cool, all customers should be viewed as equally important. And to tell your customers this, all we could do was shake our heads. Food finally arrived and despite being especially hungry after a 2 hour wait it all fell incredibly short. Pancakes were boring and flavorless and my egg was undercooked. They remedied this promptyly for me but obviously they just scraped the hollandaise sauce off it, tossed it in to poach longer in incredibly over vinegared water and didn't bother to replace the hollandaise on it so instead I ended up with a sad vinegar egg benny. Not impressed. It'll be a long time before we go back, if at all. Incredibly disappointing after such a great first time experience.<br/><br/><br/>-----08 May, 2012-----<br/><br/>Delish!. We headed to Cherries on Sunday May 6th to use a Swarm Jam we had purchased ages ago. Normally I check out reviews and such before we buy, but hadn't on this one so had no idea what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised! From the moment we stepped in we were welcomed warmly and quite liked the comfortable yet stylish atmosphere. My husband and I each ordered a benny and shared a buttermilk pancake to try them out. I was impressed that the chefs accommodated my request for a hard egg - typically they'll still leave them runny in the middle. We both quite enjoyed the bennys with a most tasty hollandaise. My husband commented that it's probably the best benny he's ever had!!! Huge statement there! And the pancakes, mmmmmm......tastiest we've had in the city. Light and fluffy and yummy yummy. We're new to this side of town and so happy to have found a great new weekend breakfast haunt. Oh wait! How could I possibly forget the cinammon bun we coudn't stop ourselves from getting for a snack later in the day? Quite possibly the best we've had. Ever!
Hew
Excellent concept for a breakfast bistro. I've had breakfast here about half a dozen times and can definitely say I will be returning for more. The "pay before you eat" concept is awesome in my opinion because once I'm done breakfast and my coffee I love being able to just get up and leave without having to wait around to pay the bill. I've always been greeted and left walking out with a smile from the staff. As for the food in general, some of the best hollandaise sauce I've ever had (hollandaise is one of my favorite sauces so I would know) and as for the rest of the menu it's nice to see some creativity when it comes to breakfast ie. the breakfast sliders or breakfast pizza! Good atmosphere, friendly staff and great food.

Four visits, none good. AVOID. Cherry, here is you're three tips "Service, Service, Service"<br/><br/>So here we are my fourth trip to this restaurant. I had thought that since the rating at 85 % was so high, possibly I was wrong in my other 3 visits. but alas no I was not... Which leads me to believe that the owner or employees are falsely submitting higher reviews to boister the rating for this restaurant. I have been too many restaurants that are rated this high. and they all deserve it but this one does not. They do not seem to learn from their mistakes. They seem to ignore everyone's review about it. and seem not to care that this self service atmosphere of this restaurant is killing it.<br/><br/>This could be a great restaurant with a few small changes. because the one good thing about this restaurant is the food is pretty good. but that is the only good thing. But they stubbornly stick with their "lack of service" format and that is everything.. in the breakfast/brunch market<br/><br/>BTW maybe clean cutlery would be nice...<br/><br/>First of all the service. when you walk in the door you have to line up at the counter and order your food.It is at this point, when money changes hands that you tip. before you know what kind of service you will get. This counter service aspect others have complained about and continues to be a problem. We absolutely hate it. Especially for the price. Because of this, when the waitress bring her food she has no idea who ordered what dish so in our case she put down the wrong plate in front of the wrong people. and this was the owner. You are still forced to get your own cutlery napkins water condiments and refills. At $64 for 3 breakfasts this is terrible customer service. Do not compare this restaurant with other bistro and breakfast restaurants such is the "The Shine" ,"Floyd's "and "John's". there is no comparison If you want your brunch place with service that is. There is a reason why there is no line up at the door for this place because it is not worth the money. If you make a note of the owners participation in this Urban Spoon blog. you'll know why I suspect that the rating for this restaurant has been falsely padded. My recommendation don't come here unless you're willing to serve yourself. don't expect the service you get another breakfast places because you're not going to get it. The owner claims there is a "learning curve and training" that cherry has complained is part of the problem has not improved in over a year. and it's not likely to improve because it would have been done by now.<br/><br/>[Earlier reviews]<br/>OK so I've eaten here three times now and my expectation was that it would be good based on the reviews. However I was disappointed each time. First is the self serve aspect where your expected to find your cutlery, jams, sugar etc from a two separate kiosks. Secondly there seems to be a bit of an attitude with the counter staff., like they owe you a favour or something. That really needs to improve. Thirdly the eggs Benny almost always have a vinegary flavour which tells me the water they are poached in has too Mich vinegar or the egg goes straight from the pot to the English muffin. Apart from this the food is generally good and others I have gone with are mixed but mostly happy with the service. Good idea to open Sun. Since you are mostly a brunch place and Sun morn is brunch time. Myself, I will not return and that is a shame since I live just down the street.

Hide Away. Don't miss this hide away bistro... Lots of space/tables, OPEN SUNDAYS..<br/>Great food and service.<br/>NOT to be passed up!

Food Good, Atmosphere Pleasant. With the exception of a couple of snappish responses while ordering at the counter, the experience was very good. Each of the eight people in our group had a different dish, and almost all were impressed. The Eggs Bennie were tasty, the French toast was cooked just right (although it was found to be too large a portion, not necessarily a bad thing), the Mennonite sausage and corned beef hash were declared very good, and the bacon and eggs with the fried yam mixture (yam, onion, peppers) were delicious and cooked just right. The omelet looked very generous, and was good. The blueberry buttermilk pancakes were tasty, and were completely polished off. The breakfast sandwich was also demolished, although the egg in it was not runny as ordered. The only questionable item was the blintzes -- the cottage cheese was thought to be a little off, but it was mostly eaten. The coffee was very good, and the Mighty Leaf teas are the best. The system of ordering at the counter feels a little awkward, and it seems that each table needs to be told about it, along with the specials. Perhaps a prominent note on the menus as well as clearer signs would be helpful. Also, many of us missed picking up our cutlery on our way back to the table after ordering -- perhaps it should be a little more obvious, say beside the order counter. All in all, it was an excellent choice for breakfast for a group. Everyone found something they liked on the menu, and it wasn't too noisy for conversation across the table for the whole group. We would go again.

Fantastic!!! Second time there and will go back. Menu is varied, portions are more than adequate! Today's soup was awesome and the fresh baked bread excellent! Atmosphere is great and the staff are very atentive

SURPRISE!. Took my bride of 39 years to a Valentines brunch after hearing/reading the place was in a mall, the portions were small, they weren't open Sunday so I don't like them.I hesistate to tell the truth because I might not get a seat next time we go there. Cafeteria style ordering so you can speak to the person making your meal! Wife had eggs and Menninite sausage and I ordered Eggs Benny. First blush you think you may walk away hungry but I had a tough time finnishing the benny - eggs done perfectly with fresh grilled wedge hash browns with a wonderful light dusting of spice and shaved almonds. Fresh Hashbrowns! I was hard pressed to finnish my plate and liked the fact I was paying about two dollars less based on market price for a Benny but I wasn't sending 1/3 of an overserved plate back to the kitchen and I was full. My wife tried to make it through her breakfast but left behind one piece of the great home made bread. The whole staff genuinely appreciated our business an feedback. The fact they close on Sunday is fine with me.We all need time with our families and we will support Cherries going forward do they can continue to serve great food and enjoy life. Thank you. Rob

I have been there twice now and both times I left still hungry and very disappointed. The first time I went my french toast was great, but small portion. Potatos were very undercooked. I didn't eat any More than one bite. Second time, my coffee took 15 minutes till the staff realize the reason I was staring at them wasnt because I too was interested in how much they drank last night. After bringing you your food they proceed to tell you where to find the self serve cutlery, jams and napkins. Very disappointed, the 4 of us will never return.

Great Coffee, Well-Executed Food. I just finished my fourth visit to Cherries Breakfast Bistro over the past 4 months and am quite happy. This is an order and pay at the cashier, pick up your coffee, and they deliver your food experience so I think the "bistro" in their name applies quite well.<br/><br/>The espresso is excellent, serving Caffe Umbria beans and the baristas are competent at pulling shots. <br/><br/>The mennonite sausage is excellent and the bennies are well prepared. The hollandaise contains a little more lemon juice than other places around town, so has a bit of a zing to it. The buttermilk pancakes are thick and dense, not fluffy. This is not a bad thing, just a little different. More importantly, they are made from scratch. I didn't care for the beef burger patty as it seemed to have been blended with other ingredients as it was soft. I prefer my burger patties to only contain beef.<br/><br/>We have had some food come out cold and the pancakes chewy when it was busy. I'll attribute that to being a new restaurant as I haven't been there during a busy time again. The portions are filling, but not excessive and the price point is reasonable with bennies costing under $12. It's nice to have a good breakfast option that isn't downtown.

A great place!. I loved coming across this refreshing place! The area has gained a much needed local, tasteful, comfortable, casual, beautiful, fun and funky bistro with a great menu. The Mennonite sausage is particularly authentic and tasty - super smokey and delicious. The Hollandaise sauce was what I have been looking for all over town - buttery smooth and flavour rich. Great place for coffee or a full brunch, with a group or alone. I will stop here again on my way back from hiking and biking out in West Saanich - perfect combination of ambience and a well crafted menu full of really good food. Love it and am relieved to find a place like it in the neighbourhood.

Look no further...eat here!. You will not be disappointed! Just walk up to the counter and pick up a menu. I strongly suggest sitting down somewhere and reading it thoroughly as you try and narrow down what you would like. The description of the meals makes them sound so enticing that it is difficult to choose. But they do not just sound good.....they are fabulous to eat too! <br/>It is like the food your Grandmother would make, you know, the sauces that have that extra something spice that adds just that little bit of "zing" to the meal. <br/>Don't forget to take your piece of plastic fruit back to your table once you have paid for your meal. But if you just want a coffee and muffin you will not be disappointed there either. Try an Americano or a Latte and I know you will be back for more.<br/>Enjoy!!! <br/>We certainly do!
