Ordered the Korean BBQ for 2. It was cooked by one of the waiters in front of us. The meal was good and the staff was warm and friendly. Only negative I can say is that they charge for additional sides and not sure about ventilation considering it's a bbq place. Other than that, we enjoyed the experience and will try it again.
I'm spoiled by the great Korean restaurants in Vancouver but this place is still pretty good. I tried the Korean barbecue, a few of their regular entrees, and a few sides, and they were all good.
Wow.
This is going to be my go to Asian food fix for a while.
Fresh ingredients served up crackling hot.
Multiple sides. Included. Yes?!.
Huge menu that I will have to return and explore.
Funny thing.
This place has evidently been serving up hot pots for some time.
The main plate serving spots on the laminate countertops are all discoloured and cracked.@
Love it.
Thanks.
Update: OK. I may have hit it at peak that first visit.
On subsequent visits and having ordering other menu items I've got to relate that the deep fried choices just don't do it for me.
Way too greasy.
Could be I'm just getting healthier generally but,....nope.
Will keep trying here. The soup based meals. The hot pots.
But jeesh.
Great food and great value for money. We had a BBQ combo for two, two adults and two young kids, plus one soup and we couldn't finish. They were very generous too with replenishing various extras. The wait staff was very nice and went to the kitchen to double check our food allergy concerns.
Love this place!! Very tummy food, a family favourite restaurant, the only reason why I give this place 4 stars is because of the prices, I feel it's over priced and almost need to break my bank just to take a family of four to eat there for dinner. But definitely worth a visit
One of my favourite restaurants in town and definitely the best Korean restaurant. its one of the few restaurants that i keep going back to and am still not tired of. You can't go wrong with anything on their menu. i recommend the spicy rice cakes, all kinds of hot pots, beef short ribs, the seafood noodle, and the seafood and tofu soup. the complimentary side dishes are always delicious and fresh. i don't really like the bbq here.
Came in on busy Boxing Day, not expecting anything. Visiting Victoria from Vancouver for several days, on our third days into staying, my husband and I were craving Korean food after having afternoon tea at Empress Hotel. We ordered "soon doo boo( spicy soft tofu stew)", "galbi ugeoji guck (short rib cabbage soup)" and "gal bi tang (short rib soup)". Surprisingly all the dishes were tasty, authentic Korean food. The price was good and the waitress serving our table was very kind. I know where to eat Korean food now in Downtown Victoria.
Oh my gawwwwwd the BBQ for 2 is the most amazing thing ever!! 40 dollars for so much delisious dishes and you never feel gross food coma full after eating all of it and the service is always great.
Tasty, but pricy.. Good : Korean BBQ combo was great. You can have hot-fresh(?) BBQ at your table since they have individual grill system on your table. Servers were friendly and helpful, No extra charge for side dish refill. Nice and clean atmosphere.
Bad : After meal, your whole body smell like BBQ haha..I don't recommend super expensive clothing when you go there for BBQ.
Great For A Group, On The Pricey Side. Boyfriend and I checked this out for date night recently, there was tons of stuff I wanted to try and eat. But with the prices, we had to stick to only a couple of things. It's very expensive for having to cook your own food (I am aware this is kind of a staple, but I think for groups and everyone pitching in it'd be different.) We ordered the Korean Beef Shabu Shabu hot pot and some Soju. Soju is great and authentic, and you are served tea after you sit which is very nice. I know how to cook Shabu Shabu, it's very easy but most of the food in here will take awhile to eat, best time to talk and mingle with friends! The beef was good quality (We even ordered more rib eye), we loved all our veggies and Ban chan (side dishes). If you know how to cook Shabu Shabu, that broth at the end is AMAZING with your quality noodles and rice. Best part of the meal deemed by us both!
Now for some cons. I felt like we did not get much service, we were trying to get someone multiple times and nobody was coming over to check on us or ask how it was. That was slightly a downer, especially when I see some staff standing and waiting. They forgot our second order of beef, so we had to have a different server get it for us. And they never remembered the napkins we asked for. Its also pricey, as I said. For two people we won't come again unless I am getting some black bean noodles, this is for sure a group activity.
All in all, we did enjoy our food - not for the price tag, and is a great spot to eat for Korean cuisine for sure.
Had BBQ combo for 2 and it was really good! Was stuffed. They kept bringing more of the side dishes too, no charge. I'll be back.
Have been here 6 times now for BBQ for 2. So good!
This is a once a week stop for us. We are definitely hooked for life. Two words, seafood pancake. Among everything else here that we can't get enough of!
Great date night!. The BBQ Combo for 2 People is a great value -- my boyfriend and I are always stuffed when we leave. It is a bit on the pricey side for college students, but worth the splurge on a special occasion! The servers are friendly and they are always playing some funky kpop quietly in the background. The cucumber-infused soju is really something different, but quite good!
My favorite. Living in Victoria for a year, this is the Korean restaurant I will go for a soup, or BBQ beef. I had worked in a Korean company for couple of years and also lived in Toronto for more than ten years. Sura does not offer authentic Korean food for people like me who knows korean food, neither great. But compare to other korean restaurant in the town, it is the korean restaurant I will go, not one of.
Service was great. Food very awesome. We did lunch there looking forward to trying the BBQ in the evening.
Pretty good Korean BBQ, comfortable, clean ambience, friendly and efficient service. The BBQ combos are very reasonably priced. Okay, Sura may not be of the high calibre food I've eaten in Korea, but by Victoria standards, it's pretty darn good. They do need to improve the quality of their side dishes and add some micro-beers to the liquor list. Otherwise, thumbs up from this food critic.
Great Korean Food. My favour korean restaurant, especially the BBQ. and the Lemon Shimp was so delicious and my 3 years old son loves it. He usually doesnt eat much while we eat out, but this time he ate one whole bowl of rice with the lemon shimp and the sauces. But also, we just found out that their portion of the BBQ combo for 2 are getting smaller.
Mixed Feelings. The food and the atmosphere there is good, but I don't like the servers working there. It's almost as if they ignore customers and the service id horrible. Kudos to the kitchen, but the servers deffinately have to all be re-trained and have to learn NOT TO TEXT when when there's a large lineup of people waiting to be seated.
Sura Korean is an exceptional restaurant. We received incredible service and the food was tasty. We had the BBQ combo for 2 which was plenty food for two adults. We would definitely be back.
Amazing bbq experience. Amazing food, amazing service. Can't wait to go back!!
This is my new favorite spot. Had lunch here twice this week and for sure going to come back and try the BBQ. Two thumbs up
One of my favorites for bbq. I always get the combos. Great service everytime.
Favorite Korean place in Vic. This is our go to spot in Victoria for Korean food. We have been going here for a while now and the service is always great. They even gave us a 10% coupon for having to wait to get a booth (we waited 15 mins). They gave us a free desert on our birthday and they are always prompt with the side dishes. We always get the bbq because it is by far the best option. I eat a lot of food so this makes the most sense economically.
Excellent. Wonderful food combined with excellent service. If I lived in Victoria instead of just visiting from Toronto, I would dine here on a regular basis.
I have been to sura countless times. I love to go there for bbq. the combos are a good amount of meat. The service everytime is excellent.

Excellent as usual. Took a couple of friends there last night and ordered the BBQ for 3 as I had read about those spicy seafood noodles..we wished we had grabbed a couple of street people to join us as there was so much food. Today they expect to graze on the four boxes we took home. That chicken is to die for and what is that marinade?? Wow!
By the time we left following attentive generous service, the place was full with only another table being caucasian guests, as we are. Says so much when the local ethnic gang hangs out there regularly and for special events like the birthday party on our last trip!
So. much. food.. Yum! Love the BBQ. Delicious meat - with lots of fat marbling, which is a good, good thing, awesome unlimited veggies, and it just keeps coming! The potato noodles are really tasty too.
Very good if you're going out with a group of people - lots of fun food to share.
Tableside Service. Very attentive tableside service. Food was mediocre but more than expected from a restaurant in Victoria. Very busy place so make a reservation!
Awesome food! We got the $40 BBQ for 2 and the food kept coming! We left with 2 take out boxes too! I also loved that you got a lot of veggies with the meal! Great experience!
Excellent service, outstanding food.. I would definitely recommend the BBQ dinners- for 2,3,4 etc. because you get the best value for your money- the dishes keep on coming, and it's more of a social dining experience than just eating a meal. My favorites are the spicy pork, and the noodles that come with the meal for 3- super tasty. You can always ask for more lettuce leaves or for the hot sauce (comes with the Bim bap). The service is excellent- we have been many times and have never been disappointed. Keep up the great work.
Although the decor is spartan, this place is a gem. From pleasant and very helpful staff to generous portions to reasonable prices, every moment in this establishment was enjoyable. They may have dumbed-down the spices for me, being Caucasian, but the flavour of my dish - yukgultang - was insane. One issue was menu clarity. But the servers made up for that by patiently explaining the differences of seemingly identical dishes. All meals come with REFILLABLE sides like sweet potato, sesame spinach, kimchi and sweet pickle. Next time we go, we intend to get a group together and hijack a hotpot booth. All in all, high recommendations!
We had the BBQ for two. $40 but we took half back to the hotel for breakfast. Can't wait to go back!! So good!
Exciting!. If you aren't familiar with korean food the staff is more then happy to help you out. most meals come with a few side dishes including kimchi, doesn't get much better then that! i usually get the bibimbap, a very tasty one dish meal, but if you have a couple friends to share a barbeque dinner with, it is even more fun the it looks!
MMMM. Mmmm. Sura. It's the only place I go when I get a craving for Korean food. (Ignore the fact that it's probably one of three options in Victoria.) The food is always delicious, the servers are great, and overall it's a good value. I've only had the BBQ once, and we shared either the 2 person or the 3 person combo between 5 of us. More than enough food, and so much yum.
I love the japchae (it comes with the BBQ, but you can order it as a dish too), and I love the little side dishes that come with Korean food. I'm not sure what the restaurant protocol is regarding when and when you don't get side dishes. I tried to ask one of the servers once, but although all the servers are nice and helpful, their English is usually limited. But in any case she ended up bringing over some side dishes free of charge even though I offered to pay for them, because they don't come with certain meals. Awesome!
Very friendly. I just had lunch there. First time Korean for me. Food is a bit challenging but very good. Service was excellent. I will be back.

Awesome Korean Food!. This place is delicious! On a rainy Christmas eve, my family (visiting Victoria for the Holidays) found ourselves without somewhere to eat -- I know, ill-prepared eh?! This place was open, and already having a love of Korean food, decided to try it. The food had depth and tons of flavour. And to dispel any of the other critics on this website, the service was impeccable. We went there twice over the holidays and both times the service and food were flawless. I highly recommend it!
It's a sure thing.. Perfect little Korean restaurant - the service we got was simply attentive. The staff is polite and said, " excuse me" every time she place the food or clear the table. We even asked for extra servings of rice and side dishes. The food was extraordinarily delicious especially the stew bulgogi with a side of rice and preserves which was quite alot for 2 to dine. We also had spicy seafood pan fired noodles which was too hot for us to handle but still, pretty tasty. The restaurant is clean, spacious and comfortable. I would definitely dine there again, and we don't mind bringing company.
Great BBQ... and service!. Firstly let me set the record straight. For all the customers who are not used to other cultures, WAKE UP! I have traveled throughout the Asian world, and can tell you that the quality, service and ambiance of SURA is as great as can be expected anywhere. Firstly, the "cheap fatty unhealthy meat servings"?!? Marbling in meat is what makes it! I have always found the quality to be excellent: if you might take the time to first educate yourself, you might enjoy your experience. As for the "lousy service" that most have complained about, I might concur, only until I take the time to stop and think of the situation of many of the wait staff. imagine first, If you worked in a different country and didn't speak the language as fluently as your own, would you be as outgoing as you are with "your own people"? I think not. Before you go to "International cuisine restaurants" imagine what it would cost if you had to get your passport, buy the Airline ticket, pay for the hotel, and get a translator... have some respect and understanding, people!
Su-Ra is as good as any Korean BBQ you may find; Quality, Quantity, and yes service too (If you respect the server!) I have been with my family 3 times and will be back.
Lots of food - take it home. I've seen a lot of reviews about how much food you get, and the fact it's not a "good value". Ok, yes you get a lot of food. You get lots of little vegetable dishes and soup and then meat. TAKE SOME OF IT HOME! It ends up being a really good deal if you just TAKE IT HOME! Maybe it's the starving student in me talking, but I definitely thing this place is a good value, when you think about the leftovers you get! And it's really tasty. If you don't want as much food, go for the bibimbop, rather than the meat barbq. Otherwise, eat your heart out, for a few days.
This is by far the best Korean BBQ I have ever had. The quality of service can vary but overall it is good. It is a little pricey but you get tonnes of food for your money and it is delicious!
Reasonable price, wonderful staff, DELICIOUS meal! I go here all the time!!
Sura is a Korean restaurant that specialized in their BBQ and hot pots. With its prime location in Downtown Victoria, Sura is bound to attract many visitors and locals to its offerings. While working at Albert Head over the summer, there is always a struggle to find good Asian food in Victoria. One day, after roomie and I were done work, we decided to go off base to grab some Korean food, since we haven’t had any source of Asian food for about 3 weeks now. Since we skipped dinner that night, her and I were pretty famished. We entered the restaurant at about 8:30, fearing that it was closed. Luckily for us, they closed at 9 that night, and they still accommodated us despite us staying there longer than their opening hours. We ordered the BBQ Combo for 2 ($39.95) which came with the regular banchan, salad, dumplings soup, deep fried dumplings, and an assortment of meats (rib eye, bulgogi beef, chicken, spicy or non-spicy pork).
Sura, definitely nails all the things I love about Korean BBQ. They have amazingly friendly and attentive staff, great selection, reasonable prices and delicious food.
I love Korean food and this place doesn't disappoint. They have a wide menu of classic Korean dishes, there BBQ is amazing and a lot of fun. Only down side is that the food is quite expensive, no matter the dish. I would highly recommend going with a bunch or people who love to share food and laughs.
Went to Sura for lunch and tried a variety of dishes. All the selections were great and tasty.
The staff was friendly and always kept our pitcher of water filled. Like how they gave us individual condiments rather than the traditional “communal style” condiments.
Was disappointed that their seasonal Buckwheat cold noodle was well ... out of season.
Pos: Their dumpling are never a let down. Crispy fried and large. Noodle broth is almost clear and very hearty for a cold day. Bottle water due to covid. Pancakes are rich in taste and flavourful.
Cons: Prices definately went up. With two people it was almost $80 and that didn't really fill us. Reduced items available on their menu. Service is slow. Their chili fried chicken was the soggiest "crispy fried" chicken I ever had...best if they either revamp the way they make it or get rid of it. Xin makes it better.
Food for thought: expensive but tasty dishes. Best to bring in a large group to share the cost. Service seems to be either very good for some or super slow for others.
The service is very good and the people is so nice. The food is good. The place has a good atmosphere.
A bit expensive but extremely delicious!! Highly recommend getting the best cuts. Side dishes were all amazing
food was good, although i have had better, and it was a bit pricey. Dumpling were crispy and yummy i would definitely have those again. Overall a positive experience.
Great family dining, simple decor, BBQ at your table. High panel separation from other diners and great fast service. Street parking.
Revisited this place after 4 years and they now have BETTER MEATS and LARGER PORTIONS. I remember they used to have the worst bbq portion and their Korean pancakes was super thin and that’s also the reason why I didn’t revisit this place in 4 YEARS. Now however the quality is close to those in Vancouver which I didn’t expect I can find on this island. 100% recommended. (I believe the owner or management has been changed but good work!)
Good taste and fine service. The hotpot is really tasteful. They do the bbq for you so you don't have to worry about it but if you care deeply about hygiene (they use the same tongs for raw and cooked meat), you may want to avoid ordering bbq.
I’m glad that they’re re-opened again. The food was great, the waitress was friendly and helpful. I was just a bit sad that they don’t have the BBQ combos anymore. I hope when things get back to normal, they’ll bring the old menu back.
Delicious food, reasonably priced, and very well packaged. They also included free kimchi on the side as well.
“I was kind of moody, I love cooking but I also wouldn’t cook my food for this amount of money you know? And it’s kinda hard to have a nice dinner with your friends when your focused on cooking on the food correctly. As the cook it’s a bit unfortunate. It’s definitely less relaxing.”
-Markus, YouTube Famous
“Very Good, thank-you for cooking”

“The meat was very good, especially that big looking stake thing. If we had a better cook we would have had better food. If I cooked my food it would have been a 10/10.”

“First time eating Korean BBQ, would come back. The flavour and sauce went crazy.”
“Had a good time, food tasted good, have a good day.”
“Yummy!”
-Gunel, Joel, Everett, the back table
“It was quite nice! When you bite into the meat it wasn’t only juicy, but sweet as well. It really slapped. Sodium was a little high, I’m a little thirsty”
-Liv, Resident of CARSA
“It was delicious, favourite meat was the beef slices, goes hard”
-Rowan, CEO of the headband
Amazing and friendly service. Great to adapt for allergy ( mine is not with may contain, but severe enough to have respiratory effect) . I had the 돌솥 비빔빕 (Dolsot Bibimbop) in stone pot and had it modified vegetarian with fried tofu.
Side veggie dish were delicious as well!
It is a classic Korean BBQ, not fusion.
Great table spacing and clear sign adapted to Covid-19 and great system for the delivery person to not expose clients. Clean and fast. I will be back !
