We had a lovely brunch of Ruth and Deans incredible breakfast scone. The coffe was equally delicious. Highly recommend.
Ruth & Dean made a gorgeous 3 tiered cake for our wedding that was beyond our expectations. It was absolutely beautiful. We had so many compliments about how great it was! Thank you for making our day that much more sweet �

I have been to your luncheonette a few times for lunch now and was always pleased. Thus, when my girlfriend's birthday came around it felt natural to ask you guys for a cake. And what a cake ! She enjoyed very, very much. We will sure be back, be it for lunch, or a cupcake, or a full blown cake slice or whatever you guys feel like baking/cooking.
The BEST cake I have ever tasted in my entire life. Ruth and Dean created two beautiful cakes for my wedding, and they were so good we've since had guests order the same cakes for themselves. Also, the best breakfast sandwiches in the biz.
I couldn't be happier with the way out wedding cake turned out! It was breathtaking and delicious, what more could you ask for!! We had the earl grey cake, not your traditional flavor but all our guests were so happy with it. It was very light and moist with a lovely buttercream, perfect for after a big meal. I didn't have an exact image in my head of what I wanted so I left the creative part in Susannah hands, after seeing all the pictures of her stunning work I knew she was more then capable of creating a beautiful cake. I would jump at the opportunity to recommend Ruth & Dean to anyone who is looking for a cake!

An absolutely divine Americano coffee(and I'm pretty picky about coffee), with a carrot cake cupcake topped with just the right amount of icing and coconut sprinkled on top. So glad I found this charming and personably hosted little place. Lovely.

Ruth & Dean has one of the best breakfast sandwiches in all of Victoria. Chimmichurri on a house biscuit, egg, cheddar, tomato, and of course, avocado. The bacon is an add on, and boy is it worth it. The treats are delicious and almost impossible to pass up. The coffee is hard to top. Very family friendly and located in the quaint Estevan Village, a short walk away from Willow’s Beach.
Pleasant neighbourhood bakery and café with indoor and outdoor seating. If not famous already for the breakfast sandwich, it will be. This was bacon, egg, cheddar, tomato, avocado and chimichurri on a magnificent biscuit. The café offers numerous other choices along with excellent coffee. Friendly service of course.

This was our 2nd Red Velvet Cake and I cannot even put into words how delicious it is. The amount of love and care that goes into making their cakes does not go unnoticed. Thank you for taking care of your patrons, what a beautiful addition to the Oak Bay area.
Popular cafe on a cute little street outside of the Victoria city centre. We stopped in on a long bike ride for a quick coffee and stayed for some baked goods. There was lots of space to park our bikes and to sit outside and enjoy the weather. The staff was very help and friendly!
Charming little cafe. The food is simple and amazingly fresh. The small menu changes frequently depending on what's in season or fresh. Even the biscuit for the sandwich is made from scratch. There are also some baked treats. Cupcakes are a must try too!
This place is truly a hidden gem downtown. Not only do they make the best cakes in town they also do a fantastic lunch service. I’m always blown away by the quality and creativity in their food. I’m especially impressed by their salads. I am not a salad guy but damn they do them well.
Don’t skip dessert you’ll regret it and people will start to talk.

My elderly dad and myself visited Victoria from Vancouver just before the long weekend of Thanksgiving. We were originally going to take one of those red double decker bus tours from The Empress Hotel but unfortunately & fortunately they were closed between Tuesday and Thursday so we decided to just get a day pass for regular BC transit buses and took the #2 bus to tour from DT to James Bay beach then back to DT and then eventually to Oak Bay beach area. As the result, we saved $70 for both (the red double decker bus is $80 for two) and we were able to find this cute corner bakery/coffee shop, “Ruth & Dean”. It totally looks just like a country side rustic coffee shop which I like personally, and we decided to grab some drink and sit outside table on the side walk under the beautiful old huge oak tree. And I had chai latte with almond milk (lactose intolerant 😵💫🥛) and it was delish! Their baking goods looked also so good but unfortunately we were already full with lunch earlier so we saved for the next time. Their beautiful cake looked so good, the ladies ahead of me ordered a big slice of it and she said it’s very good! And I believe her. 😂 The place is very spacious, nice outdoor tables and nice cozy and peaceful atmosphere all around that area. I recommend anyone who likes to have a little get away, find this little cute community with some other shops and restaurants. The gorgeous clean beach is just a few blocks down on Estevan St. It was such a nice treat for both my dad and myself to relax and refresh ourselves from living in the heart of Vancouver DT.
I had their spaghetti & meatballs; comes with a cookie (I chose chocolate chip) which was interesting because it was sweet with a hint of sprinkled salt. The entree tasted fine but a bit on the small side for the value. Will try again on another day (the lunch menu changes daily) but upon closer inspection this place is more known for cakes which I'll have to update upon next visit.
DELICIOUS!! The only word needed to describe our lunch here today. Very cozy little place with good coffee and delicious food made to order. Good looking pastries as well and looking forward to a wedding cake well be having from here tomorrow.
We quickly googled a spot to stop for lunch while we were out biking & just the vibe in the pictures made me want to check out this gem of a place! And we were so happy we found Ruth & Dean’s! We had the BLT with salad, corn chowder, the oat & fudge bar & a mocha. 👌 Deeeeelish!
So damn good 🤤 the breakfast sandwich was straight up crack. The garlic pesto was especially killer… the biscuit was perfectly crispy and perfectly soft at the same time. Egg was cooked perfectly. The Americano was also excellent - can’t wait to come back here!!
I LOVE THIS PLACE. It is my go to if suggesting a coffee/lunch date. Baked goods are delicious! Very good coffee and cake! I love the daily cake, I love the care and pride in the business and I hope we can continue stopping by for years to come. I like bringing my toddler for a date here too. Thank you R&D for your chocolate chip cookies and welcoming atmosphere.

I got my wedding cake from Ruth & Dean and it was the best carrot cake ever! When my husband and I tasted our wedding cake, our eyes literally got ten times bigger. We are very glad we got our wedding cake from them :)
