Had a late lunch there yesterday. Food was great. I had some of the best Singapore Noodles ever there and my son who had recently been to Beijing was very pleased and impressed with the Hot Pot he was served. Our waiter was efficient, friendly and knowledgable about the selections on the menu. The only downside if there is one is you have to climb a bunch of steep stairs to get the dining room. We watched a guy in crutches go up and down it but it is worth the effort.
Old school eatery, but that’s where it’s charms begin.
Greeted by a classic neon sign, the customer enters the front door and walks up a staircase into a large updated dining room. I had decided to go in solo as the family were tired after a day of sightseeing. I was greeted by a host, and the gentleman promoted took me to a table. A server. me by and asked for my drink order and left a menu on the table. I opted with a Shrimp won ton soup to start, and I ordered shrimp chow mein and the Five-Spice Prawns. I was brought shrimp fried rice instead of the chow Mein, but it looked good so I didn’t send it back. It was delicious. The Five-Spice Prawns? They were unreal!!! So good. Colossal prawns prawns butterflied and fried and coated with a spicy goodness. My Goodness. I want them again. Don Mee has An expansive menu, and i just moved to town, and I’ll be back to try it soon enough!!
Our family refers to it as "Super Super" When we visit Victoria we will come here every time. First time we were there we asked for a simpler version of one dish, they did a wonderful job of that. We described that dish on our more recent visit and they made it for us. Very good, can't wait to visit again.
We had great dim sum and it was a very nice atmosphere. The staff were friendly and helpful. We wanted to eat more but we didn't have room in our bellys.
Incredible food, went with some friends who knew what to order, first time going, love the fact you never had to ask for water refill, always something cool and interesting going by the table, the food literally melted in your mouth, customer service was fantastic, staff was always helpful and caring, you can tell they loved their job, ambiance was cool,
Went to dim sum yesterday, and it was amazing! Great service and they even had traditional carts going around the tables. Best Chinese food in town hands down, highly recommended!
Very good dim sum, very friendly staff and good for costs. A full restaurant is testament of how good food is.
Best Dim Sum in Victoria by far. I highly recommend it. I would definitely go back.
My go to for dim sum! Just needs to be more tactful when it comes to demanding for a tip
Very good Dim Sum. Have been a few times. Never disappointed.
Best place there is always come in here when on holiday
Best Dim Sum ever! Very traditional and authentic. Individual dishes are brought around to the table for you to make selections. The seafood options were scrumptious and generous. The place was pàcked on a Sunday afternoon and although we had to wait it was only about 15 minutes and well worth it.
Because searching up dim sum in Victoria on urb.sp. yielded nil results, we decided that heading to Chinatown would make the most sense. There may have been one or two more restaurants in Chinatown that advertised dim sum on the billboard but because we enjoyed the Peking duck here a couple months ago we concurred it would be reasonable to give them a chance for brunch as well.
Right off the bat we were impressed by the authenticity of the dim sum in the sense that it was being served a la carte, an important factor if you want to experience genuine dim sum. We ordered approximately 8 dishes, each one priced based on their size or as a speciality item. We had the Shanghai dumplings, beef balls, ha gow, siu Mai, beef tripe, egg tart, and our fave dessert the tapioca pudding. The bill came to around $50, which compared to some places in Vancouver would be a tad expensive. Richmond city would probably also cost around the same. Overall we enjoyed the food, would come back again but would be more discriminate in which dishes we try.
The food was excellent. My granddaughter loved the shrimp. We ordered the family meal and got a little bit of everything. the wait staff also attentive, and filled up a glasses of water every time they were empty. The ambience and music is very nice. Restrooms are clean. Food was fresh and hot. Sauces were delicious. Tea was excellent. Marcia was most polite and professional!
The food is good. Shanghai dumplings are soooooo authentic. Beef chow fun is tasty. Spareribs are so so though. We don’t quite like it. But I strongly recommend Shanghai dumplings! The waitress is too rushy, sounds like lack of patience.
Probably the best dim sum around (including the Vancouver area). Delicious, fresh, accommodating, quick. No complaints
I liked the concept very much !!
They give u a sheet on which you have item numbers with price ranges !! 124 of them and randomly bring things and you can choose !
But that being said it was a decent meal !
I loved the pork, chicken feet and the rice rolls with shrimp and soy sauce!!
The place was packed, we had to wait for about 25 minutes for lunch!!!
Excellent and authentic Chinese food.
We had the 10-piece dim sum starter, which was excellent, big pieces and lots of flavor.
We also had the Chow Main, which was delicious, with great smokey flavors.
I highly recommend that you don't order too much, because the dishes are large and quite filling. We saw many tables being left with half the food remaining...
If you looking for a unique experience for dinner with family or friends this may be one of the best on the island.
Your typical Asian style dim sum, where they bring around charts of cooked dishes which you get to choose from. There are two many choices, and many are top notch.
Pricing can be on the higher side, so best to come and share together so you can try many dishes and split the bill.
1 dish is about 7.95-12.95. It is normally to pick 6-12 dishes per family or even more with large parties.
Well worth a visit. Check out some of our pictures to get an idea... you can choose to eat healthier or not.
💵: A bit pricey I must say. But, indeed a great place to have your Chinese Food fix!
🍜: We ordered
🍚 Vegetable Fried Rice
Different kinds of Dimsums
Meat with Ginger, Meat with Pepper(not spicy), Vermicelli wrapped shrimps, Hakaw, Spring Rolls, etc.(all are on the pictures
🍱: The portion of their dumplings are good for 2-4 persons. Dimsums are very compact and meat-packed.
⌛: The wait time is fast even though they're almost full house (We came on a Sunday, today)
👥: Service is very good. Dimsums are in a cart and would be going around and offer you their available dimsums. Fried rice are ordered from the waiters(one who doesn't carry carts with them). I guess viands are ordered through them as well.
Authentic dim sum dishes, the way the ladies push the cart around is very authentic. The quality is acceptable 8/10. So overall it's a 9/10 experience.
Wasn't so sure about this one because it's big and gaudy. Turned out gaudy in a very good way! The food was fantastic. They let me order moo shoo chicken even though it wasn't on the menu. It was served with pancakes and plum sauce. Delish.
He ordered "crunchy" chicken and ate most of it. He was disappointed that there wasn't any duck. But that is common. Gotta get those ducks lined up, and it ain't always easy. Junior ordered chicken and fried rice, which we shared among 3 people. Then there were chicken wings. (We were in a fowl mood.) Our water glasses were continually refilled, and the complimentary jasmine tea was hot and perfect. We were quickly served and took home leftovers. Rub the smiling Buddha for luck as you enter and leave. But if you eat here, you're luck's already looking up.
We really had a great dinner at Don Mee. The food was so fresh and the portions were huge! We had the scallops, beef & black bean sauce, spicy chicken and more. We still had to take some home! The service was impeccable - when you go, ask for Ming! We'll be back for team dinners and family visits.
We're so glad this long standing restaurant is still here! Stopped in for a late lunch and was pleasantly surprised. Dim sum carts came by and we were served quickly. Food was delicious! Staff were all friendly and helpful. Be sure to go here!
Wow this restaurant is amazing. We ordered lobster noodles (longxiayimian), mu shu pork and seasonal veggies. Chef has great skills in making the lobster. Sherry was wonderful and the space is nice and spacious. Thanks for a wonderful dinner.
Absolutely spectacular meal, once again!
Food was 5 by 5.
Service 5 by 5.
Overall... this place is a highly underrated local gem. Don Mee should be about 4.8 on Google, I don't know why it is only a 3.9 as of today. Way too low.
The food comes out hot, fresh and fast.
We love it here!
One of my favourite place to go every time visiting Victoria. Dim Sum is my go to with all the cart push around to pick the food. So much selection to choose from. Food is amazing.
