Just an amazing dim sum experience. It's fun ordering off the cart when they walk by your table. Their ordering sheet is easy to read and use when you are choosing what you would like. The staff were very attentive and the service was fast.
Delicious authentic Cantonese Chinese cuisine. It's like Don Mee but less touristy and more Chinese locals. I have been waiting to try this place and I'm glad I did.
The special items come with a type of Chinese soup and dessert. You can choose from 2 or more items from a list. We chose 3 items and all were delicious. Plain rice is extra $6 for a large bowl, but you can upgrade to fried rice or noodles if you so choose.
Service is typically of a Chinese restaurant. Quick and down to business, but not friendly or attentive. My wife rushed for me to settle the bill and we forgot about dessert. It would be nice if they remind us if we like dessert and we would have taken it. Otherwise I would recommend this place.
We caught a ling cod and asked the restaurant to cook it for us. They made a soup with the fish head and it was so creamy and delicious. We had the restaurant make the ling cod with ginger soy sauce, it was sooo tasty.
We also ordered the crab claws, Haninese chicken, gailan, green beans, seafood hot pot and salt and pepper squid. Everything was delicious and the price was very reasonable.
The food is delicious and the waiter was nice. The beef brisket is very tender and it tastes pretty authentic. Recommend this place for eating in Chinatown.
Excellent dim sum. Delicate dishes with deep delicious flavours. Menu for ordering with minor cart service.
- Delicious food
- They have specialty menu where you can order crab or lobster fried rice that you can share with 4+ people
- Prices are considered expensive
- Plenty of tables
- portion sizes are acceptable
- They have a customer washroom
- Customer service was okay
Downside is
- The food ordering process was not too smooth for me. I had to explain a few times. There are times they forget what we asked for maybe due to being short staffed.
- For example, we asked for forks and spoons, they kept forgetting to give it to us
The overall experience was good. I would come back again to taste those delicious foods.
Great service and great food! Friend and I were visiting Victoria and had dim sum at this place. Everything is delicious and portions are generous. Spied a few dinner menu dishes from a table nearby and the portions are huge! We’ll be coming back again for the dinner menu dishes. Excellent experience and I'd recommend this restaurant.
I've loved everything I've eaten here, both as takeout & sitting in! Golden City has a lovely dining atmosphere and seasonal decorations! Great place to sit down and enjoy a delicious meal with friends and family. Highly recommend!
We ordered take out at a very busy time (6pm on Saturday) but our order was ready on time and it came in nice containers that don't leak!😁 You know how sometimes you get home and gravy or whatever has leaked out? Nope ! Not with this order!! Food was yummy! Would order from here again.😃
We enjoyed our dim sum! They were tasty and soo good! We'll definitely coming back when we visit Victoria again.
Busy day here as it's the Chinese New Year. glad we made reservations. We had all vegetarian dishes minus one they put shredded scallops on so we just didn't eat it, but we didn't complain about it was too busy to bother. This place looks dated so the outside does not reflect the inside😉
THE BEST DIM SUM IN VICTORIA
I love their sui mai - it's #1 in Canada
And peanut pork dumpling, rice rolls, har gow, oh, the daikon cakes as well! 💯
Honestly everything was above and beyond the expectation.
Please keep this good business ongoing 😋
I have heard of this restaurant for years but it was not until my regular haunts closed for staff holidays that I have been trying it out. Good quality meat and veg. Ordered Shanghai fat noodles, s & S pork (which was lean and tasty), beef with lots of good broccoli. Always feel good after a meal here - no issues there. Quick to order on the phone and food was ready in 30 minutes but depends on the timing. Have been back many times.
Go where the locals go and this is where all the locals were. We dumpling hopped all down China town and this place was packed when every other place was empty. The taro and barbecued pork dumpling was insanely delicious. Our food came out very quickly despite this large restaurant being almost full.
Ordered from Golden city using their online system and enjoyed the convenience. I ordered vegtable chowmein with only beansprouts and two egg rolls. Golden city correctly made my order which I was worried about because I just wrote the "only beansprouts" into the comments. This showed me they pay attention to detail. The chowmein was a good large portion had great flavor and was a resonable price. The egg rolls were lackluster without much flavor and the wrapping was a bit thick for my liking.
Overall good meal and I would order again (just provide not the egg rolls next time).
The staff very friendly
The place is clean
Food came out quickly
Why I rate the food a 3 is I come from Vancouver and some of the the Dim Sum restaurants in Vancouver are world class.
I would say this is one of the better places in Victoria.
A must to go to if you are interested in having Dim Sum
We went for dinner craving some chinese dim sum. We ordered a mix and the food was good! We had a combo with chowmein and Breaded Almond Chicken, Sweet & Sour Pork, Chicken Chopsuey. We also ordered chicken corn soup, seafood congee, bean curd roll with pork and daikon cakes. They were all tasty and we enjoyed our meal. Service was decent but due to weather it was a small crew so wait was a bit long. However, it was indeed very cold as all the other reviews stated and would recommend dressing warm if going on a cold day.
We saw some of the negative reviews but still decided to give it a try.
It was COMPLETELY WORTH IT.
We got there at the tail end of their dinner rush- but they still saw to us very quickly.
The staff was polite and willing to answer any questions we had.
We ordered the combo 'dinner for three' for the two of us to share so we could have leftovers.
The dishes didn't all come out together, but it was all so delicious that we didn't mind. The food was hot, and clearly their chef/s are very good at what they do.
Including tip it came out to just above 60$. And for what is labeled as a 'dinner for three' that is well worth the price. We are already looking forward to lunch tomorrow!
