Decided to try this establishment on skip the dishes after trying a few other places in hopes of finding a really good place for Chinese food and they did not disappoint at all! I absolutely loved the barbecue duck Lo mein and was incredibly impressed that it wasn’t swampy. My only complaint was the battered shrimp and fried wonton were soggy on delivery but still phenomenal! Will definitely order from again.

I have been going to this place since I was a kid with my parents. Now I bring my kids and they are as in love with it as I am. I swear that the broth will cure any cold and my kids would live on the BBQ pork if I allowed it. Eat the wonton noodle and prepare to fall in love.

I've been going to this restaurant since 1993 (when I moved to Victoria from Toronto) and I have to say, that not only is your food fricken delicious but your BBQ pork, dumpling noodle soup is AMAZING! Love you guys!

A reasonable Chinese bakery, certainly better than Victoria BBQ House & Bakery around the corner. Having said that, it wasn't on par with the ones I've tried in Calgary and Vancouver. The bread portion of each bun I sampled was quite good but the filling left something to be desired. The red bean paste was less sweet than I remember from other Chinese bakeries as well. Overall, a pretty solid offering and the best available option for this category that I've found in Victoria (better the place I mentioned earlier in the review and Sally Bun).

Great spot for authentic Hong Kong/Cantonese cuisine in Victoria. This place along with Don Mee (Dim Sum) and Golden City are my three favorite Chinese restaurants in Victoria. They also have bakery and BBQ meat offering too. The food quality is top notch and the taste is just as good as the best from the mainland. Definitely the top 3 best Chinese restaurants on the Island.

Amazing char sui and rice! Got a large portion for about $20 😀 The red bean bun and egg tart were also amazing!!! It’s hard to find good Chinese bbq and buns in Victoria so this is really appreciated. Staff were very kind too. Can’t wait to come back and try the crispy pork.

Great place in Chinatown. The gentleman cutting all the fresh BBQ meats seems like he's running the show. We had our last meal in Victoria here and it hit the spot. I would say the highlights are the bbq meats and duck. I huge plate of duck and roasted pork with some broccoli was fabulous and just under $15 was great value. Portions are huge here....I had the rice noodle in Soup with dumpling and soy chicken....I wasn't a huge fan. Again the bowl was huge, but I thought broth was lacking in flavor and the dumplings were a little weak...no flavor. Also lettuce in my not my favourite vege in soup. The buns are awesome ...fresh fresh fresh.. curry beef, pork buns, and omggggg the cheesy scallion bun to die for. Tip....line up outside on the right is for the buns and BBQ meats. Line up on the left is for dining in. If you are dining in wait outside on the left part of the line or else the meat cutting gentleman yells at u to wait outside lol. And the zodiac placemats were awesome my kids loved reading about each others traits. Enjoy!

Amazing place to enjoy Chinese food. Bbq pork with wanton noodles soup is awesome. Kids love it, too. Food server Kevin is very helpful in suggesting what dish is a must for our first time.

We came here on Christmas Eve for lunch. There was a really long line outside the restaurant and we were told that the line up was for take out and bakery. We ordered wonton noodle soup and the portion is really big. Hot soup is really good when the weather is so cold outside. The waiter also was always around to refill our tea pot. My kids love the placemats on each table that explain about Chinese zodiacs which I think was a nice touch.

Fantastic old school Chinese diner. Bakery in the front, with your BBQ take out meats too. In the back is the restaurant. Great homestyle authentic Chinese cuisine I grew up with. Definitely will be back for more.

Yum - congee and spicy tofu & noodles. Service is hit-or-miss. The younger servers give impression they don't want to be there and are not very customer-oriented. The more senior staff are helpful, remember your past orders and who you are. Still, it's where the locals go for great food, big portions, very reasonable prices. I recommend Wah Lai Yuen located to the right of the "Gates of Harmonious Interest' when you enter Chinatown from Government Street - look for the barbecued ducks hanging in the window!

I've only tried their pork buns, so far. Yummy. The bun is tasty, moist, and slightly sweet. Nice portion of BBQ pork nestled inside.

Wah Lai Yuen Bakery and Restaurant is my go to place whenever I feel like eating congee. In this visit I tried their Combo 4 which has egg roll, deep fried tofu, vegetable chop suey, and a large serving of mushroom chow mein. For this big size of serving, $21.95 is reasonable. I have taken out the excess enough for another meal. On the other hand, since I went here on a weekend (Sat) the place is so busy and people lined up in the cold as they were not allowed to wait inside.
