Review La Taquisa - Victoria

The food was amazing. I order the pork burrito and my brother got a beef burrito and we both thought it was amazing. The staff were quick with preparing our meals and they had outstanding service.

Favourite place to go on my lunch break, or for date night. Service is fast. Everyone is very nice. Food is so great. #1 tacos on my list. :))

Love the interior style of this cute place. The food was amazing, authentic tasting and fresh! The price is also just right!

This is the place to go if you want delicious Mexican food! Excellent every time we go, I recommend the chicken mole burrito. Lots of spice levels and flavour profiles to choose from if you like a lot or a little. The staff is absolutely great - friendly, helpful and patient. Nice indoor eating space, but options to sit outdoors in the front on the street or in the courtyard at the back (we didn’t know it was there the first time we came!).

Authentic Mexican food, like for real. I had a giant burrito with Beef Al Pastor. The meat was so soft and tasty, combined with marvelous beans and cheese that are nothing like you would ever experience at a Tex-Mex Americanized place. Now the salsa, oh boy the green salsa, savory salsa made just right to be flavourful while still mild. I combined that with some sour cream, perfect match for me. I could eat a whole meal of just chips with this. A friend of mine ordered their small quesadillas and they looked just as good, I can't wait to try some next time.

I visited day before yesterday. I love such a welcoming staff and friendly customer service. And on top of that food was so delicious. I am vegetarian and it is difficult to find tasty option in Victoria, but La Taquisa is one of the best place for veg people like me. I would highly recommend to try Tortila soup. 🫶🏼

Thank you so much for catering our office luncheon today! The setup was very nicely done and the food was wonderful. Everyone asked me where I ordered the food from. For the first time out of all the monthly lunches, I didn't have any leftovers. Unfortunately, I couldn't take pictures of all the food but I managed to get a few. Look at that guacamole!!! <3 Thank you, Team La Taquisa for a job well done :) - Quartech Joyce

The owners are a local family and just the nicest people. Always remember your name, hard working... and the food is amazing too. They use high quality ingredients and recipes. Best Mexican food in town!

I have never had a bad meal from La Taquisa. I got the baja fish burrito and it's a complete meal all on its own. The service is great. People are friendly and they're quick. It's one of my favourite places in Victoria. 😀

Their fish tacos are delicious. I'm pretty picky about Mexican food, but I enjoy having a meal here whenever I visit Victoria. Props to the staff with also being polite and patient to some inconsiderate customer who was being so rude to the friendly staff.

The Good: We tried a variety of tacos and everything we had was delicious. The al paster, ahi tuna, carne asada, and shrimp were all very good. The portion size was descent and the all taco were full of flavor. The Bad: A minor critique - a little more chips and guac with the order but it was also very good. Overall: I would definitely go back again and I recommend this to family and friends.

Delicious food and the staff was super friendly and helpful. Greatly appreciated the extra care taken to keep gluten and gluten free products separate! Excited to have a new place in the Westshore to enjoy!

I've been going to the Wilson location for about 3 years and we eat there at least once a week. Try the shrimp! The soup great and often overlooked so give it a try too. Everything is made from scratch. I've watched the. Make huge tubs of chipotle on more than one occasion while I waited. Also the staff seem to enjoy working there which says a lot about the place. Highly recommend.

We've tried a few other places in Victoria but this one blows them all away! The Sopes is my favorite!!! The flavors are amazing, chicken mole is spectacular. Their salsa with different heats are so authentic. Highly recommend this as a go-to place for sure! Excellent!!

On a rainy, dreary, and generally unpleasant Tuesday I'd the opportunity to stop into the new Langford location of La Taquisa. A nice welcome was followed with an explanation of the menu. Beef filled burritos seemed a good idea, along with a side of corn chips and salsa. The order was soon filled, and we set about lunch. The beef burritos are generously filled with all manner of tasty bits. The corn chips were warm and served with a green salsa. This isn't fast food. It's really good food served in a timely manner. La Taquisa is a welcome addition to the Westshore, and deserves to be experienced. Next time the Taco Soup I think...

Amazing tacos. So fresh and full of flavour. Love the flank steak and pork confit. Go esp on taco Wednesday for an awesome deal. My new go to taco joint!

Damn fine tacos!
Another Mexican street style taco joint. The Baja shrimp tacos are spectacular and there is great value with 5tacos with guacamole and sour cream and a pop for about $15!

If you don't know what you like, try one of each and zero in on your fav! That's what I like about places like this and this style of taco, they are only 4-5" and $2-3 each, so buying a bunch is still reasonably cheap and you have a lot of choices.

The food was pretty good, their mole was excellent.
The little gift of a virus that's lasted over a week that my friend and I both got from different burritos was not.
Someone needs to do a much better job at food safety and infection control.

Tried their baja shrimp taco and the baja fish taco. Liked the baja shrimp better. I went with a medium level spice but it might have been better with another level up. 3.5 because the taco isn't all that much better than the other taco joints within the downtown area. But the price is better tho.

I love this taco place. We moved downtown and there are 4 taco places within one block of my house - this place is the best of the bunch - strikes the right balance between quality and price.

I am really impressed by their meat sourcing - it's from good, local places - so appreciated!

One thing that more people really ought to check out is their breakfasts - only available on the weekend and on Fridays - but seriously, check it out.

Sope con chorizo is really good. The gringa with beef tasted ok but not too impressive. it's a place for some quick bites. The chilaquiles are very tasteful and a little too salty.

Have been to this place a few times. I have not been disappointed. It is tasty and cheap and cheerful. I prefer it for take out versus sitting there.

I went looking for a quick bite in downtown Victoria. I don't hit Fort Street often except to hit Choux Choux and Ditch Records. It was late afternoon and I hadn't eaten since the night before. Tacofino was full up and I have been itching for Mexican (more on that later). I spotted La Taquisa nearby and went in, but I wasn't that pleased looking at the menu.
La Taquisa feels like a "gringo" burrito joint. Too sterile in its presentation, no personality. The girl serving me was fine — really friendly in fact, no complaints about the staff. I ordered the chorizo burrito. It's big (although not because of an abundance of chorizo) and I certainly didn't leave starving, but I didn't leave satisfied. It was kind of bland. It lacked… personality. Safe. Sterile. But almost offensive in its banality. I don't see myself going back.

I know that I might just be alone in Victoria on this, but I want the Mexican or Central American food like I can get in East Vancouver or Montreal if not from those areas themselves. Frankly, I want entrails, offal, something that smacks of authenticity if not exactly, 100% authentic.

Next time I'm in the area I am making a point of hitting Chorizo & Co and sample more from their menu or just hit Tacofino if I feel like a taco or a burrito. But La Taquisa… meh, I'll take a pass.

Chorizo burrito rocks. I love the chorizo burrito here, it has deep flavours and is a little spicy too (their hot sauce added = perfection) The portion is great for a hungry patron and leaves you feeling full, but not regretful. + it's saucy, not greasy! Adding guac. is worth the extra and never regretted either. Go for the el gordo, if you're really hungry and you will be extremely satisfied. I've tried both the chicken mole and beef al pastor also and they are equally delicious too. The fried shrimp tacos, with extra chipotle mayo (for the saucy lovers) are also killer and a nice switch up from meat. The staff have always been helpful and cheery, which makes this resto solidly good.

I do not understand the love for this place. I have gone for the fish burrito (el Pastor and Baja style) and fish tacos at both La Taquisa locations. I can't say that I am very impressed. Bland, too much cheese and my last time out, the burrito wasn't even warm inside. Honestly, if you're looking for a good burrito in Victoria, skip La Taquisa and head straight for Tacofino. A bit more expensive, but MUCH more gratifying food.

Quite good, but could use some tweaks. My wife and I went to La Taquisa for dinner Tuesday, March 31.

We arrived about 840 and were greeted by the warm smells of mexican food. Always a great start to dinner. She had the vegetarian tacos (an assortment of all 3) and I had beef, chicken, fish, shrimp, and chorizo tacos. They were quick, tasty, and the meat especially had good flavor. The "salad" on top could use some work. It needs more onion especially. I also think the tacos themselves were a little...under...in flavor. More bland than some other taco joints I've been to.

Overall, I was pretty satisfied. My only real disappointment was that I didn't realize they closed at 9, so I couldn't order more (they had shut down the taco station when I asked if I could). Kinda sad, but I suppose I can't blame them for closing at closing time...

I've been to better, but I would certainly consider going back. Overall very good.

Tasty burrito made for a giant. After reading the reviews and seeing the place busy every single time i pass by, decided to give this place a shot. I had the beef burrito, order was ready within a minute. I was shocked at the size of the burrito, seriously it doesn't need to be this big. The beef was tasty and tender. The lettuce and the guacamole was very fresh, and the tortilla was warm and delicious. I highly recommend this place. The only suggestion to the owners is to cut down on the portion sizes and reduce the price.

Great taste, overpriced, soggy. Great taste. I get the chicken mole burrito and the baja shrimp tacos. Tacos are always dry and the burritos are soggy every single time. The taste is so amazing though. I usually have a few bites of the burrito and then make it a salad because the shell falls apart. I think they need to work on the shell they use for the price it costs.

Chicken Tinga Tacos. Had the chicken Tinga tacos and thought they were pretty tasty and reasonably priced. Good place for a quick bite.

Do you want Dripping Wet Soggy & Cold Burritoes?. If you would like to be extremely underwhelmed? Three guys, three burritos, one consensus. This place sucks on first try. Cold shell, cold meet, fish and spicy with no spice. Bro's fish burrito had to throw out, other burrito tried to re cook on the stove with a new shell, no help. I microwaved mine and it just dripped water onto and down my arm. The 87% of the positive reviewers are delusional or had no burrito. Bla!

Pretty good. Good prices, good soda, nice look. did not like the corn tortillas however, they were dry and just strange. burittos on the other hand were amazing in value and taste. service could've been just a tad smilier. but a decent enough place to eat :)

Great simple tasty food!. Had the pork chorizo, beef and the fish tacos. Wife and I ordered mildly spiced and the guacamole on the side did the trick no to get us on fire. Cool place to go on a sunny day. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Everyone should go there at least once a month.

Delicious. Fresh, affordable, and fun choices. The sopas is delicious.

I do wish their guacamole was less processed.

So amazing!!! Best tacos around. The food is so fresh and yummy!

Delicious, fresh & flavourful. Fairly priced & comfortable setting. Will be back.

Great place for affordable tacos. Quick, tasty and good service. Had the chicken mole burrito and it hit the spot. Will be back

The good: affordable, seems clean, water dispenser offers ice, chicken mole was decent, fast service.

The bad: not authentic as they claim. Guacamole not fresh. The girl on the till taking our order was unfriendly! She should have not been given that post. As there were no pictures to base our orders and it was our first time, we had to ask questions. And boy she was rude. She's the one with the black hair with curly bangs. It's a shame, really.

Not coming back to this one.

Tacos were great and fresh! Liked the menu style, but the staff members at the till were rather rude and short tempered with first time customers making orders... how else are you going to get business?! Anyways, i enjoyed it!

LOUSY!. Save yourself your time and hard earned money. Drive to the Taco Justice food truck behind Wellburns off of Cook & Pandora and order authentic, delicious mexican food. Here's a customer service and hygiene clue...DON"T PLAY WITH YOUR PIERCINGS IN YOUR FACE WHILE TAKING MY ORDER!
Really, you can't figure out how to put some cheese on a flour tortilla for my son because it's not on the menu?!
I enjoyed spending my cash at the food truck instead of your pathetic establishment and WON"T RETURN EVER!
Hatman101
Not great. I was really disappointed in both of the burritos I shared with my wife. We tried the chorizo and the mole chicken burritos. Minus the overwhelming taste of lettuce and salsa there was very little flavour. I don't think it is worth a second shot.

Great for my young family! We'll definitely return!. Visited the Blanshard location tonight for dinner. We all were first-timers to La Taquisa.
I'd called the Vic West location first, to ensure there was room to sit, and received very friendly, polite and helpful advice that the Blanshard location has more seating.
We had the same type of friendly service at the Blanshard locale.
We liked that the menu has 3 sections, to allow for choices in building your customized meal. Each of us wanted tacos so we ordered six: one baja fish, two beef al pastor, two chicken mole and one chicken tinga. All with red-medium salsa. For an appy we had fresh, warm tortilla chips with the same salsa and also guacamole. We were happy with, and enjoyed, each type of taco we'd ordered. Nice flavours and textures, the right size, and looked attractive too. I think the chips & salsa was also a good portion for the price for the 2 adults and 2 kids that shared the appy.
We found good food at a good value in Victoria! And we'll be returning soon - and often!

Pretty good Mexican food. Not as good as Hernande'z, but far from the worst Latin American cuisine in town. We waited to place our order for an eternity and there was only two parties ahead of us. I think the ordering system asks too much of customers, too many decisions to make, thus causes confusion and delays. Also, they goofed on one of my tacos, forgot to add filling! Otherwise, fresh ingredients and the tortilla soup is very good. Marginal thumbs up.

Love everything here - inventive and fresh. Almost entirely gluten free too in case you need that.

Not overly impressed. I was initially excited to try this place after hearing about it but was slightly disappointed when my tacos were slimey and dripping with a very watery substance. I ate them as I was starving but would never ever stand in that line again for that quality of food....plus the guacamole was so cold it was almost frozen and it killed the flavour of it

OM NOM NOM. HUGE servings, i can never finish a burrito. Delicious, and tastes about the freshest i've ever had. Crisp delicate flavours. I had beef with the spicy salsa verde, and it wasn't actually all that spicy.... but i am a spice-a-holic. but no complaints. delicious.

I didn't know La Taquisa had moved from their cook street location, but when I saw their new location on Blanshard, I had to stop in. It is the same great food with the same great service. It still has a "taco cart" feel to it, as you order your food at a counter; more of a fast food style, and I'm not saying that as a bad thing. The staff are super friendly, and knowledgeable of the menu. As always, the food is great, fresh and authentic Mexican food. Extra point for using local meats!
Horsing Around Victoria
There was a time when we weren’t sure what we thought of Mexican food because we’d only had the North American version of Latin American cuisine. Generally this consists of over-salted greasy ground beef, rubbery cheese and a leaf or two of wilted iceberg lettuce, all stuffed into a stale supermarket corn tortilla that would invariably explode before we could get our mouths around it. Then we discovered REAL Mexican nosh and we had an epiphany. Since then, at Horsing Around world headquarters, Latin American food has become a passion bordering on obsession. Imagine our ecstasy when La Taquisa came along. We could please our palates and our pocketbooks at the same time, our favorite dual pleasure after mutual orgasm. Heck, with prices like these you may climax just reading the menu. Authentic Mexican food is an explosion of textures and flavors, crispy and soft, spicy and refreshing. 5 Tacos for 10 Bucks. Holy Guacamole! At La Taquisa, tacos ring in at a paltry $2.50 each, but why stop at one when you can get five whole tacos for just $10. Choose from mouth-watering fillings such as: Okanagan flank steak in adobo sauce, pork chorizo, chicken tinga (stewed chicken with tomato and chipotle), chicken mole (a rich smoky sauce, flavored with a hint of dark chocolate), shrimp Baja (crispy breaded shrimp) or, our two favorites, bean and cheese (we love meaty, toothsome pinto beans) and fish al pastor (cod marinated in adobo sauce and baked). We find that sharing 2 ½ tacos each satisfies our appetite and makes for a delicious, inexpensive lunch. If you have a hearty appetite we suggest a solo order of five tacos, or consider the burrito which consists of a 12” flour tortilla stuffed to the brim, with beans, cheese, pico de gallo salsa (onion, fresh cut tomatoes, cucumber and cilantro) AND your choice of one of the fillings listed above. You can upgrade to the big as your head “El Gordo” for just 2$ more and get an extra filling to add to your noshing pleasure. If y

La Taquisa's fresh corn tortillas are so tasty! You can customize the tacos/burritos/sopes with beef al pastor, pork chorizo, chicken mole, baja shrimp, roasted peppers and an array of salsas in varying heat levels. The tortilla soup is delish as well - topped with crispy tortillas & cheese. And all the meat is locally sourced/hormone free.
