The place was so good! So much flavor with our plates. There were 3 of us. One ordered the spare ribs, another with the game hen, then one with the steak. We shared the chorizo tapas and a couple beers. We were all blown away with the quality of food and flavor throughout each dish. Evan our waiter knew each item and told us the ins and outs of each plate he was great!. The beer selection was great along with the wine! We will be back for sure.
While searching for funky and unique breakfast I came across this unique eatery that claimed to serve locally sourced sustainable ingredients. So we decided to give it a try. We ordered the French toast and lower Yates benedict. The French toast were crispy in the outside but custardy on the inside. We went with the berry compote that just sweet enough without the maple syrup. The eggs were poached perfectly. Crispy potatoes and bed of spinach is simple but fulfilling. Overall a great place for classic breakfast with a little twist.
Server was friendly and polite. Food was brought timely. Eggs Benny was great, side potatoes were a bit lacking. Bathroom was freezing cold.....I'll be back but not to go to the washroom.
Back again. Service was lacking....slow slow slow....friendly but slow. Washrooms still ice.
This was a stop on our Off The Eaten Track historic food tour. The food and drink samples were great. Made us want to go back for a full meal later.
They had some freshly made complimentary chips that were unique & tasty to start with which was quite a nice surprise.
I had their chicken burger with a side of fries. Both were excellent. The sandwich was pretty standard for a chicken burger, nothing particularly surprising or unique but was quite tasty. The fries were crispy and spiced just a little to give them a bit of a unique flavour that I very much liked.
My companion had their daily special, a seafood pasta, she said it was enjoyable.
Service was prompt, professional, and friendly. Atmosphere was quiet & pleasant.
One of the best restaurants I've been to down town.
Great food, service and atmosphere!
My boyfriend and I stumbled upon the hawk and hen after being frustrated with long waits and same old food at other brunch locations in Victoria; and now we are weekly regulars! We continue to be greeted with incredibly friendly service every time we come in and the food is amazing every time. Every dish seems to have simple ingredients but everything is done to perfection. They also usually have weekly brunch specials that are always so good and unique! Every time we bring friends or family along they always enjoy it as well. And best part is, they're one of the only places in Victoria that doesn't (yet) have a lineup for Sunday brunch! You need to eat here!
Staff was friendly and accommodating. Food was excellent. Fresh and portions were not to small not to large. This visit was for a paint night. So fun! Atmosphere is relaxed. The bartender was fantastic and the server was not as attentive as I would prefer .
This place is usually surprisingly quiet. It doesn't seem to have the word of mouth and popularity of other, similar places. This is surprising because the breakfast is on par with most of the trendy places in the city, bit with a much larger space and no wait. Dinner is also good and they have a fully stocked bar. My only complaint has ever been that floor management seems a little disorganized, so watch out when they do get busy!
Solid place to go. Great downtown location. Parking close by. Food was soooo tasty. Eggs Benny was slightly overcooked so if you like med ask for closer to soft. Taste and food quality can make you easily overlook a slightly more solid eggs Benny yolk. Service was really good. Quick. Friendly. What more an you ask for. I will be back.
Four of us were visiting Victoria from a cruise ship and we wandered into this place because most places were very busy yesterday evening. This reviewer is the least critical of just about any place above fast food but my companions are quite the opposite. This is actually their review. They loved it to a man and two women. The appetizer was fried artichoke hearts with a lemon dip and all were very pleased. Each ordered a different entree. They were pasta and meatballs, Sockeye salmon, halibut and chips and the fourth was another appetizer( a small pizza with chorizo). Our beers were the Phillips Blue Buck Ale and the Analogue 78 Kolsch. We loved everything(the flavors, the presentation, the service and the atmosphere) and cannot understand why this place isn't as busy as the others in the neighborhood. We are not locals so our taste may not stand up to what Victorians are used to, but I advocate giving this place an opportunity to wow you.
Breakfast here was really good! Quite quiet on weekend mornings, lovely staff and good food.
Nice downtown breakfast feel to the place. I loved the eggs benedict.
First time trying this restaurant, and I was not disappointed. Great service, friendly staff, delicious food, and classic beverages. I had the Reuben sandwich, and it melted in my mouth it was so good. Also enjoyed a gin ceaser. It was nice that they had that option, as I'm not a big fan of vodka. Would totally recommend this place. Definitely going to come back!
Brunch on a weekday!
Hawk and Hen has a good selection of breakfast items, including a number of interesting Bennies. The beautiful interior is spacious, modern and clean – almost as elegant as their website. Staff are attentive and prices are reasonable. I will be going back.
Went a few weeks back for the $30 Dine Around menu... was very pleased. Excellent waitstaff and bartender, really nice space, and food was delicious! Will certainly be returning soon. Also... the cheesecake was amazing!!!
