Review Machi Sushi - Victoria

It was the most delicious place during my 10-day trip to Canada. Discovering a delicious restaurant in a quiet rural town. The locals already knew about it and were lining up to eat it. Be sure to stop by when you come to Victoria.

Finally found the best BC roll in town!! (After trying so many sushi restaurants - rolls are often too loose and too much salmon meat) Cadboro bay roll is great too but the portion is a bit small as a specialty roll. Will definitely come back to try other items!

Pos: Friendly staff, free parking, easy to find, nice interior, food was fresh, and service was quick. Bathroom was clean. Their octopus and squid dishes was the main reason why I gave 5 stars. Very fresh, not chewy and delicious. A hallmark of a good sushi restaurant. Price comparable with other sushi restaurant. Neg: none Food for thought: interior is small so either make reservation or expect to wait.

This place is fantastic. Two times I have been here when I was feeling very down in the dumps. Both times I picked up the sushi and went to eat it by the water. The taste was exquisite and made me feel much better. 2/2 is 100% - numbers talk! Highly recommend.

Great sushi experience! Food was incredibly tasty. We had some miso soups, tempura, Guoza, islander roll and the upland roll. Great friendly and fast service. Definitely recommend and will be returning!

Such an amazing sushi restaurant my daughter and I have been going here since she was 3 and we still love it all of their sushi is so high quality unlike other restaurants where it's 90% rice. I would really recommend.

This place is hands down the best sushi restaurant in the city, the service is great and everyone is very friendly. The chef rolls are all amazing, I personally recommend the caterpillar and Machi rolls. If you're lucky they have a complimentary dessert when it's not too busy, a deep fried cube of coconut milk called miruku (sp?). Recommend to everyone, do yourself a favor and eat Machi 🍣

Excellent food and superb service experience from our last night dinner @ Machi Sushi with my family. I am a picky one and hard to please customer but we had a great ist time experience here. We ordered caterpillar, rock n roll and willows rolls and harmony for two and some appys and sides. I truly enjoyed everything! Hats off to chef Andy and his team. Thank you!

Some quality sushi. Really fresh. Some of best sushi I’ve had outside of Japan. And the price point seems really good which is not what I expected considering the neighbourhood is in.

Used to be a good place until new Chinese owner took over. Service was ok but the chef cheap out on quality . Sushi roll has tiny bit of fish where we can hardly see and taste. It wasn't cut in even pieces. cucumber in the cucumber roll was mushy. Expensive place for its quality. Go other places around town . Even Fujiya grocery sushi is better this .

Great sushi in town. Just moving in this neibourghood and tried this sushi place, it wows me so much. The staff is very professional, she told me the details about the sushi rolls and gave me a great suggestions. We ordered cadboro bay roll, victoria roll( gluten free), vancouver roll and ocean roll. They are all amazing. Very excited to find the spot near our place and don't need to cook for my dinner now, LOL

We love to come here, super kid friendly! The food is so good and fresh, the staffs are super friendly. Cadboro bay roll is amazing. We order a bunch of sushi to go for our family gathering, everybody enjoyed it so much.

Really have to try these wonderful place. One of the best Japanese Restaurant in Victoria I have been. The sashimi is fresh there and fair price. personally love the Chirashi Don there, if you like sashimi you will love that Don.

Really good sushi! Love the ocean roll and Vancouver roll here! The Gyoza and beef teriyaki Don are excellent! Drop in and have a try! You will love it!

The service was quick and friendly and the food delicious. Quality rivals Ebizo, which is our absolute favourite for sushi! We'll definitely return.

Just tried this place for the first time was pretty impressed by the price quality and customer service. The only issue I really had was that food seem to come a lil slow. It may have been because we were quite hungry or they were really busy but nonetheless was a lil slow in bringing out the dishes. Will def try this place again though!

Best sushi in Victoria!!!. I was introduced to Machi sushi from a friend a few months ago and I have to say I was quite reluctant. But then discovered this place and we have gone here for lunch almost every week. I've never had a bad piece of fish here, everything is so fresh. And I consider myself picky. Andy is one of the best sushi chefs on the island. Any of their special rolls are great! Chicken karaage, bento boxes, cadboro bay roll just to name a few. Don't let the cheap price of everything fool you, this place should be charging more for its meals.

Rivalled only by Uchida Shokudo. I haven't been to every last Japanese restaurant in Victoria, but I can safely say that the food at Machi is consistently fresh and made with care. The chef and servers are courteous and responsive. I have had no complaints so far, and definitely prefer it.

Great Sushi Restaurant!. My husband and I consider ourselves very lucky to live half a block away from this wonderful, new little Japanese Restaurant in Oak Bay. Machi Sushi offers a classic Japanese menu, as well as several wonderful house specialties, great Udon and Soba dishes, and very fresh sashimi. Apart from the clean and authentic ambiance, Machi offers cold beer on tap, 'delightful' service, and if you're not in the mood for going out, the 'take out' is fast, fresh and consistently tasty! Love this place.

OMG> other reviews must have been written by friends of chef.. As a sushi aficianada, we have dined in every sushi restaurant in Victoria. On a drive-by, we thought we would try something new. We were early, only 4 other diners, and quickly gave our order. The sake arrived in no time, as did the miso soup. Hard to critique sake and miso, since they are fairly generic and comparable. We love the Ika Karaage in our fave downtown restaurant, so thought we'd give this a try. After a wait, our bowl of squid arrived. Six tiny, barely battered squid rings, with a slice of lemon. At $5.50 this amounts to almost a dollar a ring! And instead of light and crispy, they were rubbery and chewy. When we commented on the meager size, our server just laughed awkwardly. We then waited almost 25 minutes for spicy salmon roll. This is also a roll that we have reviewed in many restaurants. New diners arrived, and had their meals served as we sat waiting. No server addressed the delay, until we caught one's attention, and she spoke to the chef. An apology, but we continued to wait. Finally, the spicy salmon arrived, six pieces of a roll, which proceeded to fall apart when dipped in soya sauce. The salmon portion was pathetically small. The tempura was pre-cooked, and just reheated. We were offered a gratis dessert, but since we were both so dismayed with this experience, we just wanted to make our exit. As far as the decor, it is very bland, the mirrors should be cleaned as they were very 'smeary', the music was not Japanese or even fusion and all in all, a completely disappointing dining experience. I would rather pay for parking downtown, then dine here for convenience sake.

Fantastic staff & excellent food, tucked away but not to be missed. My favorite new spot for sushi in Victoria.<br/><br/>This spot is tiny, but the welcome you receive and the service provided is immense. The ladies tending to the tables are quick, gracious, friendly and never too intrusive nor too distant. Glasses are refilled quickly, requests are responded to immediately, and the standard for sushi service has hit a new high in this town. <br/><br/>This restaurant features the best gyoza I've had in Canada. Light, delicious, and clearly made fresh - one order is never enough. Agedashi Tofu is light, well portioned, and served up hotter than Satan's hooves. Whoever is running the fryer knows what they're doing.<br/><br/>The sushi rolls are excellent as well. I generally avoid rolls with cream cheese in them (Cream cheese in sushi is like ketchup on steak), so I can't comment on those, but the others I've tried have been excellent. Fantastic Spider Roll - very fresh, crunchy and delicious crab. Maple Roll is also terrific - just the right amount of crunch, never drowned in mayo, satisfying all around. <br/><br/>The only roll I am not crazy about is the Rock and Rock, but I'm told this is a local favorite, so perhaps I'm simply missing something. Everything else I tried was excellent, so I hardly miss anything when I don't order the Rock&Rock.<br/><br/>Chef is extremely friendly, will stop in to check on your meal, and is fun to talk with. Try sitting at the bar sometime - make a new friend and begin to wonder why you've been eating your fish rolls anywhere else.<br/><br/>Birthdays are fun here. Hope you like music, embarrassing sing-alongs, and delicious little desserts.

Went for dinner with my family and had an awesome time there. Friendly staff and all the food is delicious. We enjoyed this very much and definitely would recommend to others!!

Great service. I went there for my birthday dinner on Sunday night. When I walked in I was immediately greeted! They are quick and fast with their service. The owner is the sushi chef and he takes time to check on his customers when he finishes making the sushi. I love how attentive the are. Their sushi is great, my favourite is the emperor roll. Even though this place is small it still has a great atmosphere. Definetly a place to check out if you are looking to plan a sushi night out :) <br/><br/>The only con I would say that they can't accommodate big groups.

Warm, friendly place with great food.. This fairly small, unassuming place dishes out delicious food and great service. The dedicated chef/owners truly appreciate their customers and often personally check on the tables to make sure the diners' experience is a good one. The waitresses are delightful and very accommodating. Their Dynamite Roll with eel is probably the best we've ever tasted. A really great addition to the area.

Our New Favourite. Very good food and very attentive staff. It's great that they have the Bento Box lunch option. Try the Rock and Rock sushi. It will be your new favourite as well!

Great Post-Beach Spot. The waitresses were so sweet and checked in on us frequently, always asking if there was anything more they could do. It was reasonably priced among three us of splitting the Dream Combo with free dessert compliments of the chef - who came out to ask how we liked the food too! What a lovely place to stumble upon after a beach sunset around the corner.

Wonderful!. We have visited 4 times since their opening and been wonderfully satisfied each time. They offer all the usual suspects, and do them all well, but the octopus salad is unique and memorable along with the amazing service and dedication of a place where the owners are the chefs and staff. Every time it gets even better even though they had us as regulars after the first time. Watch out Ebizo! -although we still love them too.

Delicious and New. We just tried the new sushi restaurant in Oak bay.....amazing. A great neighbourhood hangout!!! Delicious rolls, fresh tuna, friendly staff and reasonably priced. Love it!
