I've become something of a 'regular' at The Oaks and appreciate the warm, friendly customer service as well as the many delicious lunches and dinners I've enjoyed there! :) It's super to be welcomed - whether for a full meal, tea and a scone (or even just a beer!) Friday night entertainment is always fun too!

After driving by this restaurant on my daily commute for many years we finally decided to give it a try. My wife and I had looked up the reviews the night before so we were not expecting much. The family and I all headed in for sunday brunch. To our surprise the place was full. We were given a very friendly greeting, and shown to a table right away. Despite how busy they seemed we received our drinks very quickly (the coffee was great!). I ordered the crab cake benny, my wife ordered smoked salmon omelette, and my kids each ordered the chocolate chip pancakes. I have to say we were shocked.... the food came out fairly quickly considering how busy the place was, and it was good. Great even. The crab cakes were full of flavour... and CRAB! eggs were perfectly medium and the hollandaise was silky and rich. My wife's omelette was light and fluffy with a generous amount of salmon. The kids both enjoyed the pancakes. It was a surprise for all of us. We definitely cant wait to give this place another try. We will be back again soon.

Horray for scratch cooking!. We went in today not expecting much, ordered an oaks burger and a tandorr burger, both with fries and a side of gravy. My coffee, to my surprise was actually GOOD! In Victoria a decent cup of coffee is always too much to ask for when eating out, but I keep trying, and am glad I did today.
My partner ordered a Coke expecting the average bar gun mix on ice, and instead was served an ice cold glass bottle, with a matching cup on the side.
Already our expectations have been exceeded.
The Tandorr burger was actually interestinng! So many burgers in this city lack the finesse to elevate it from "same ole with different toppings" to something vibrant and actually different. This burger was a total success, and is a mile ahead of the cheap garbage I am used to seeing around town. You could tell that everything on the plate was scratch, different, and delicious, right down to the perfectly crisp fries.
As for the Oaks burger, it was nothing you wouldn't be used to seeing on a menu, but it's quality was for sure something Victoria's pubs are not used to seeing, because it was top notch.
Lastly the gravy was obviously home made and absolutely delicious. A far cry from the usual powdered mix garbage served almost everywhere else you go in town, so good that this place needs a poutine!
Will eat here again for sure!

Making great strides in the right direction. I have now eaten lunch at "The Oaks" on two separate occasions and have been very pleasantly surprised at how good the food and service was. Perhaps there was a time when both of these important features were lacking, but like the Phoenix rising from the ashes or an energized boxer, "The Oaks" have come out of the corner packing a good punch.
A wonderful location for a quiet low-key lunch. There is nothing pretentious about the restaurant. It is nicely decorated in a manner which accommodates the patrons very well with the rather casual yet traditional English look. I am pleased to be able to add this restaurant to the selection of recommendable eateries within Oak Bay Village.

Delicious Burger. Stumbled upon Oaks Restaurant today while walking Oak Bay Ave. The place wasn't very busy but I enjoyed the atmosphere. My server recommended the Oaks Burger and let me tell you it was amazing. One of the best I have had in a while. Nice work Chef, I noticed they also have gluten free buns which is great because I have a couple lady friends who love to see those options who I will be bringing with me next time. I highly recommend the Oaks for its friendly staff and awesome Oaks Burger.

Great Service ~ Wonderful meal. Took my sweetie in for dinner last night. He had a burger and i had the the Chicken Parm at the recommendation of our server. We both really enjoyed our dinner. I have to say that our server (didn't catch her name) was fun, funny and knowledgeable about the menu. The manager came to our table to check that we were satisfied, Had a nice chat. He recommended "The Best Brownie in Victoria" for desert. We shared it and it really was very good. Served with ice cream and whipped cream. It would be to much for 1 person. Would i recommend this restaurant ~ yes.

Great Breakfast Spot in Oak Bay. Thought I would try to Oaks today for breakfast. I'm not an early riser so it's nice to see a place with all day breakfast for the late birds like myself. I was greeted promptly at the front door by a young lady who sat me upstairs by the window. The atmosphere was great. Everyone seemed to be having a good time including the staff. I ordered a latte which came with a heart on top which I thought was a nice touch. The menu looks like it has something for everyone, All day breakfast, Salads, Soups, Burgers, and a wide selection of Sandwiches. I ordered the Traditional breakfast. There hash browns were amazing they came with parmesan cheese on top, super delicious. The breakfast in a whole was great. My server was always very cheerful and easy to talk to. I will return to the oaks and maybe try one of there sandwiches next time. Keep up the good work.

Visited the Oaks today for lunch they have changed their menu a bit and I found the new menu to be a welcome change. After reading some of the negative reviews on here I was a little worried about visiting again but found it to be very pleasant. Was greeted by a nice young lady with a smile who promptly sat us. The server was always friendly and recommended the Asian dumplings Which I ordered for lunch and thought they were delicious. Tried the cheesecake for dessert and really enjoyed the chocolate and Carmel sauce on top. I will be returning to the Oaks again and I hope you ignore these poor reviews and try it for yourself! I would recommend it.

Went here this morning for the first time. Had the best breakfast I have had in a very long time. I had the eggs Benny, and everything was done to perfection. The eggs were soft poached, the ham was carver and fried nicely and the English muffin was toasted just right. The hollandaise was obviously fresh made. Even the hash browns were fresh, and pan fried to order. I will definitely be back. You MUST give this place a try. You will not be disappointed.

Visit #2 - Impressed. I returned to Victoria on business last week ... Coming from Calgary, where the snow is still on the ground, and the only thing green is the TD Bank, it was a joy to be back.

We went to the Oaks in Oak Bay, for my second visit. This time, we were there for drinks and a snack. The first thing I noticed was the cute hostess that directed us to a back table . Friendly and courteous, we were seated at a pleasant table in the bar area. Bright and welcoming.

Comfortable is the word that best describes the Oaks. Quiet jazz was playing discretely on high quality speakers. Not the usual tinny music. It was different from the last time I was there. Now, there were a few, obvious regulars - chatting with the staff and obviously ... comfortable.

An incredibly friendly server attended to us. I had the Murphy's Ale - perfect on a sunny spring afternoon and my guest had the white house wine. We ordered the hummus plate and salt and pepper pork rib appetizers. This was not exactly a "dining moment". But what prompted this review was the quality of the food.

I couldn't believe it. The salt and pepper pork ribs were THE BEST I HAVE EVER HAD! Perfectly seasoned and cooked, plentiful i.e. generous in quantity, and the flavour ...OMG You could taste the smoke flavour. They were incredible.

The hummus was also good. Smooth, with whole chick peas creatively sprinkled about. And it was delicious - a hint of citrus, without the cloying garlic, so common elsewhere. That and the delicious. fresh, warm flatbread. WOW!

I didn't want to leave. Very Impressed.

We have been here many times for breakfast lunch and dinner and have enjoyed our selves every time. The sausages at breakfast are AMAZING, and the service is alway exceptional. This has truly become one of our regular places in oak bay.

A pleasant experience. I stopped in for breakfast the week before Christmas for my first visit. The service was very attentive, the waffle was light and fluffy, the coffee very good. I would take the 'negative' reviews with a grain of salt, as many were from the opening weeks of this place. Everyone knows it takes a while to get the 'kinks' out of a new venture. All in all, I am looking forward to going back for breakfast lunch and dinner. It is wonderful to finally have an affordable and convenient place to eat in Oak Bay!

We gave this new place a try tonight and the food hit the spot! The chorizo burger was unique and the fries perfectly seasoned. The decor is neither here nor there and totally unmemorable, which doesn't do the food justice. It's hard to tell what they're trying to be. If the owner is reading this, I'd suggest going with a a different look, one that isn't so generic.

Nice meal for a good price. A great improvement on the previous restaurant at that location. I really appreciated the polite attentive service. The meals themselves were nicely presented without being fussy. My dining partner had a burger with a side of fries and vegetables. He said it was definitely one of the nicest pub burgers he has had in town, and he really does eat in pubs often.

I ordered the chicken curry with a side of the seasonal vegetables. My only reservation with the curry is that it is advertised as containing vegetables, but was really only chicken meat with sauce on a bed of rice and a side of naan. It was delicious and I really enjoyed the meal. I ordered a side of seasonal vegetables which were wonderful. Braised Brussels sprouts and squash and other fall vegetables, very tasty.

Between us we ordered four drinks and two whopping desserts: a huge piece of fluffy cheesecake that I couldn't finish and an enormous fudge brownie with ice cream. I can't quite remember what the bill was at the end, but it was considerably lower than what the same sort of meal and drinks would have been at the Penny Farthing down the street.

It is nice to be able to go out for a meal in Oak Bay that amounts to great food and a nice dining experience. I am not a parent of small children, but I can see how Oak Bay desperately needs a destination like this where families can go for a night out. Gastro Pubs are great and all, but I think a dining establishment with lower prices and less fussy food that welcomes all age demographics is a good strategy for a restaurant in Oak Bay. Sometimes I think that restaurants that focus on "foodie-ism" lose sight of potential niches in the market.

We liked it.. Dined at Oaks this past weekend for dinner with a large party. The menu is a typical for a family restaurant; burgers, pizza, ribs and it all tasted good. Drink specials were interesting and tasty. The service was friendly and attentive and the food came on time. Prices are fair and comparable to any other in Victoria. We felt truly welcome with our kids and we had a nice evening out. I havent been for lunch or breakfast yet, but I plan to return. Its nice to finally have a normal restaurant in the area. I do wish Oaks luck though; it might be challenging to be normal in an area that tries to be unique.

Great family restaurant!. I had dinner at Oaks this past Sunday night, and it was great! We had reserved a table, so were seated promptly by our friendly hostess. We had a great table in the upper part of the restaurant, surrounded by lovely local art. A note to the reviewer who didn't like the TVs-there are none up there. We ordered many appies (including the dry ribs, the dip trio and the bruschetta). They were all delicious and good sized dishes. For the main course, I had the chicken curry. It was AMAZING; tons of flavour with a touch of heat. Other dishes had at the table were: seafood linguini, the steak, blackened chicken and the veggie burger. Everyone enjoyed their dishes a lot. The portions are really impressive and almost all of us had enough leftovers for lunch the next day. For dessert we shared a couple slices of house-made cheesecake; more deliciousness! The service was also very attentive and friendly, which is always nice. Even the bill was pleasant; we all felt that we got extremely good value for our money. We absolutely will be returning!

Good potential. I was with a group of 9 for dinner after the Oak Bay Light Up and it was very busy but we had a reservation and were seated quickly. Our server and other front line people were experienced and very pleasant and dealt well with the large crowds that night especially given they had only been open a couple of days.

Everyone enjoyed the food they ordered but it took all of us a while to figure out what to eat because it was more of a pub menu than what our group would expect for a dinner menu. There do need to be some seafood options and given the pub like atmosphere a steak sandwich at a reasonable price rather than just a $24 steak.

The downside are the three large screen TV's constantly flickering with the usual nonsense so probably won't return for that reason.

Finally, a good Oak Bay restaurant. We tried the new Oaks Restaurant tonight with a large party. It was superb. Sure the service was a wee bit slow, but they apologized and it actually wasn't that slow. The food was fantastic. Every single person thoroughly enjoyed their dish and everyone had something different. The menu had something for everyone and they are very kid friendly. Finally a diner in Oak Bay that is well priced, with great food and nice servers. We will definitely go back and it could well become our favourite go-to place.

This is a very unique place! Oldest building in Oak Bay. A YUGE menu, which can be daunting to get through, but everything we had was quite tasty! Fair prices, electric crowd, warm service. More than meets the eye!

Just had a delicious breakfast here. Really liked the ambiance and the fact you’re not sitting on top of each other like in so many other places. Our server Nicole was a real pro and simply a delight.

A classic restaurant and tea house with considerable local history. Relatively inexpensive with tasty daily specials, each of which has ample proportions. All tea pots are a good size and come with Royal Dalton bone china and a memorable tea spoon. Several wines and beers to match many tastes plus live music Friday evenings. Well worth the visit.

Prices are reasonable with generous portions. This was for 3 people. We did take a while to be seated, because the fridge obscures a bit of the waiting area, and the workers didn't regularly check on the waiting area to see if any customers were there. But once we were seated, the food arrived quickly and service was good.

Friendly service. Good prices for breakfast / lunch. Has a unique old time tea room charm. I liked my English breakfast but wasn't it supposed to come with a grilled tomato? Oh well, still good!

We had the Full Tea with some nice tea choices, a nice presentation, unique table ware, the finger sandwiches were very good, and the scones were large and excellent. Down side was no clotted cream or strawberry jam, store bought sweet dessert and the same jam ingredients were used in the parfait. Would have paid a little more for authentic English (knowing the difference). This restaurant probably would be a better Burger Tap Room experience.

Came here for dinner after a self guided bike tour of the beaches in Victoria BC with my partner. We walked in and we were kindly greeted by our server Soleil. As we sat down she immediately told us about the food special (steak & shrimp) and soup of the day. We couldn't pass on the food special so we each ordered steak and shrimp with the ceasar salad. The food was delicious. For dessert we shared the ice cream brownie sundae. Omg was it delicious! Would definitely recommend this restaurant if you live in Victoria or visiting.

A lovely & charming restaurant with delicious brunch selections. First time, I had the Veggie Benedict, and another time, the massive Veggie Omelette. Both items were delicious. Servers were efficient and friendly. The only minor "complaint" would be the Red Rose tea. The choice for their black tea was a bit disappointing for a Tea Room. However, their rich and decadent chocolate brownie made up for it. ;)

I had breakfast here with my 2 granddaughters celebrating 2 birthdays and everyone enjoyed both the food and the service....and all at a reasonable price. I'll be making The Oaks my goto everyday restaurant. Highly recommended..... although, and this is an addition pick your time as it can be noisy and service stretched

Love this place. We have been twice in our first four days here on the island. Friday night for fish and chips and French onion soup, then on Monday for Full Tea and the Original Burger and fries. The place is a nice old fashioned pub, with a white exterior and large black beams. Inside is full of great old tables and chairs. Our food was wonderful every time we went. I had been looking for a place with the English pub feeling and Afternoon Tea at a fair price. They have several Tea choices, full tea was only $28!
