Simply put the best fish & chips you'll find in Canada. And for those of you who love a good home-made french fry, this place is nirvana.

The Best. We've been attending this wee neighborhood restaurant, off and on since 1962, and plan to eat here for another 20 years. Excellent fish and chips; the halibut cooked to perfection - never greasy nor overcooked. The chips - well they are the best anywhere. Friendly staff, and the owner, Mary, is such a treat.

The decor is awful and the place is kinda dumpy looking. But man do they have the BEST fish and chips around!!! You can sometimes see the huge chunk of halibut they are cutting from in the kitchen. It is as fresh as can be!! The calamari is a fave starter too with the dill dip. One of our favorite places to eat. :)

Little Local Diner. I live near by Haultain Fish and Chips, and so I wanted to head down to try it out. It wasn't to busy, loud, smoggy or anything, so, so far so good. We were promptly greeted with settings and water, and continued to look at the menu, which was a little pricey in my opinion. For two pieces of halibut it was 16.95, which I don't think is too cheap. In all fairness its a business that needs to make money and the economy plays a major role in pricing. Our food came quickly and to my great satisfaction the halibut was a reasonable thickness and size, and due to the portion size, did not taste greasy from the deep fryer. I was very impressed with this, and for once the fish that I am paying for I can taste, rather than most other places where I can only taste a hint of fish and a whole lot of grease. So I guess, the food was priced accordingly.

Amazingly light batter with a good crunch that didn't over power the halibut. Fries are small and dry, an obvious afterthought.

Fish and Chips the Way it Should Be!. This is a neighborhood fish and chip place that has been around for a long time. It is a family run business with mom and daughter behind the counter. Fish is always delicious with just the right amount of crispy batter. Chips are fresh cut and tasty. We love the friendly, neighborhood feel and the great food!

Old Skool Fish & Chips. This place has a nostalgic feel to it and the deep-fryers look like antiques. After chatting with the owner - I learned they were imported from England (where they know fish & chips).

The fish & chips tasted fine. People think that fish & chips are simple to make butt a lot of the magic is in the batter and frying technique. I have had some very bad examples and some good ones. Haultain is a GOOD one

The halibut was so yummy but the fries are nothing special. It was a toss up if I actually liked it.

The locales like it, and upon their recommendation, our little troupe headed on over to this weathered and homey restaurant that had the look and feel of an old school diner

Quite good. Crispy, well-cooked fish with a thin coating, good coleslaw, fries that came into their own with a little salt and malt vinegar. Not the best I've ever had, but I'm from the east coast and Atlantic cod is awesome, but solidly good, and would return.

Haultain is everything i want from a fish and chips restaurant. It’s a mom & pop with 2 very sweet and nice owners. The food is simple it is definitely not fine dining fish and chips but it hits the spot. Halibut i had was fresh abs delicious.

Really Great service. Great venue for quick dinner. Slightly odd aftertaste maybe a bit too acidic. Perhaps they put vinegar on?

We stopped here for a mid-afternoon snack, ordered the 2-piece halibut and chips. The batter was perfectly crispy, you hear the crunch as you bite into it. The batter wasn’t too thick and the halibut was tender and flaky. $26.95 which is the least expensive of what I’ve found so far.

This place is legendary. Anyone who slags this place you have every right to. But. I would say. It's always important to remember our histories and I feel like this building and what it does are a part of that, whether we like it to be or not. Boy voice to text allows for some very interesting reviews of restaurants. I'm mostly plant-based but I have had their fish at least a bite of it and it was good. They're fries are dope and I love their sign, so that's all I have to say about that

This is where my family would always get our fish and chips when I was little. I hadn’t been back in over a decade and I understand it has changed hands. It still had the understated and comfortable old school vibe. The person serving us was very friendly and happy to help if we needed her. The food was great and it also managed to scratch the nostalgic itch I had. Definitely going back. Grateful the dining experience held up even after new ownership.
