Review The Cozy Place - Victoria

Tasty healthy food. They don’t use MSG but the food is flavourful and all the ingredients ate well cooked and fresh. We had the cozy place chow mien, the veggies are sweet and the portion is fulfilling for one person.

Surprisingly well managed husband and wife team created a Comfy, cozy place to dine alone or with your love ones. I ordered the simple but difficult to master scramble eggs with tomato sauce. The eggs were cooked separately so the flavors and texture of each ingredients were properly celebrated. My second dish is the slow braised pork spare ribs that was cooked to perfect then it was tossed in with a tang-ee soy based black pepper sauce. Both dishes were served with generous portion and I had left over to take it to my hotel. Out of the 5 days on the island, this little place captured my heart with its simple but highly satisfying dishes. I will come back to try other dishes and to continue my conversation with the owner couple!

My daughter recommended and WOW was she right. Best, flavourful and fresh food. We chose the chow main, s/s pork, Egg and prawns. So very yummy. Will be returning. Friendly, clean, and comfortable. Thank you!

We ate there with my partner at one of our lowest times, and The Cozy Place comforted us with delicious food and motivated us for life. Thank you for such amazing food and leftovers made our following day :)) So, if you are looking for delicious food with vegetarian options, The Cozy place is for you. We love veggie chow mein and kung pao tofu :))

The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere as described, and the food is absolute delicious, fresh, and full of flavour with great vegan options.

Super inviting and friendly, and the food is probably the best Chinese I've had I've Victoria after living here for 3 years, and big portions at a great price! Give this place a try as soon as possible, it's the best!! :)

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Victoria 💕 It feels really cozy inside, like the name of the restaurant! All the food I had here was amazing! The price of the foods here is reasonable. I hope everyone in Victoria knows this Cozy Place😊

I had the veggie chow mein and omg SO GOOD! Small, quaint little restaurant that you'd miss if you blinked while walking by but don't let its size or humble appearance fool you...this food is damn delicious.

It is extremely hard to find a good Chinese fusion restaurant in Victoria that is not bland or cooked to meet the general palate. This restaurant could not have been more tastier. The flavors and spices were perfect, this Mom & Pap operation is run modestly and their passion translates into the rich flavorful dishes they put out. I had the eggplant, tender braised short ribs, sweet n sour boneless, chicken fried rice and garlic shrimp rolls. I can’t wait to go back and try other dishes. Feel free to ask for more spice if you’re so inclined but everything was cooked perfectly.

Incredible Chinese food, great service. We had the lamb with cumin (as per the photo), gung po chicken (chicken, red and green bell peppers, peanuts) and egg fried rice. No it’s not in Chinatown and it’s a spot largely frequented by locals, totally worth the extra five minute walk past China town from the Inner Harbor. Nourishing and Satisfying.

Went for lunch today with my co-workers. I really enjoyed it! The chow mein had a very nice flavor and the fish hot pot was a highlight! I'll definitely come back! Hou hou mei ah!

Great place for some Authentic homemade Chinese, no sweet and sour chicken balls here. Super friendly Husband and Wife team who cook in an open kitchen (probably the cleanest around). You will feel very welcomed which is always appreciated. I suggest the Kung Pao Chicken and Vinegar Braised Ribs, might not be the most authentic on the menu but both are amazing.

Don’t be in a rush as it’s a two person team if you go at peak hours it could take a while for your food but it’s well worth it. Better than anything you’ll find in Chinatown

Good service, friendly staff and tasty food. Second time eating here and will be back. I wonder why reviews must be over one hundred and forty characters long?

Nice place for Chinese food. Prices are a bit higher than what you would expect but the flavours are very good. Service is fine. You can tell the people who overrate this place really care to make their food well and appreciate patrons who enjoy the cuisine.

Our venue for a late-lunch/early-dinner during a recent stay in Victoria. I had researched the reviews, and checked it out on a drive-by earlier in our stay -- it sounded and looked like our kind of place, and it sure did not disappoint.

The Cozy Place is a small Chinese restaurant, clean, neat, and tidy, with very friendly, and welcoming husband and wife owners. We sat at a table near the door, which provided a great view of the restaurant's interior, and cooking of our order in the kitchen. We arrived about 3 pm, and were given the option of ordering from either the lunch or dinner menus, we opted for the lunch menu (it had a good number of selections, with small descriptions and pictures of the fare offered). We enjoyed the first glass of tea while making up our minds on what to order.

What we (a threesome) ordered, and listed in the order received: Note: the dishes were prepared one at a time, and each brought to our table piping hot from the kitchen as prepared, allowing us to fully-savour the distinctive spicing and flavours of each dish.

-- #07 - deep-fried chicken wings -- cooked perfectly - light-crispy outside, soft inside, spicy (not overly so), and tasty.

-- #25 - cozy place chow mein -- the 'house' chow mein - vermicelli noodles, bean sprouts, broccoli, carrots, onions, chicken, shrimp, and octopus (and I may have missed something). Good preparation, lightly-spiced, and very flavourful.

-- #09 - beef brisket & tendon, w/large rice noodles -- served in a large bowl - a chicken stock base, with large rice noodles (cooked so well, not overcooked, the noodles had well-absorbed the flavours of the stock and additional spices added to the preparation), large pieces of tender brisket/tendon (melt in your mouth tender goodness!), and pieces of baby bok choy. So good!! colourful, aromatic, and very distinctively flavoured. Tasty, and very much-enjoyed.

-- #06 - dumplings -- steamed and then lightly stir-fried, large, the wraps thin and tender, the insides crammed full of a meat (chicken and pork?) and veggie mix. Another perfect preparation, flavourful, and tasty.

-- #12 - beef tomato rice -- slices of beef, pieces of tomato and onion, on a bed of rice - it looked good, and tasted the same - yum! The beef was tender, and the spicing was perfect to our liking. Another very flavourful and tasty dish.

The Cozy Place -- wow, what a delightful and much-enjoyed dining experience! Wonderfully-prepared food, with such distinctive and flavourful spicing - colourful presentations - welcoming, friendly hosts and service. From the outside, it looked like it might be our kind of place - from the inside, after enjoying such a great meal, we definitely found out it 'was' our kind of place!

Both owners are very nice and friendly!! We have been there for many times and the kitchen is open area where you can see how it is made from scratch. And you can see that the owners have a big passionate for food and it is No MSG! Which is very rare in most Asian restaurant. It is definitely worth the visit :)

Great Authentic Chinese Restaurant (No MSG). I went for dinner at Cozy Place last night with some friends and was thoroughly impressed by the authentic chinese dishes that were offered. The restaurant has an open kitchen that is remarkably clean, just like the rest of the restaurant. The food boasts great flavours that are not often found in chinese restaurants in VIC and it is quite obvious that no MSG is used. It is owned and operated by a very nice couple (front of house and chef) and you can tell that they have a true passion for their cuisine. Do yourself a favor and give it a try, you will not regret it.

Relaxing time with enjoyable dining. Very good Chinese food with reasonable prices and the cider was cheap too!!!!
The owners (couple) are very nice and easy to chat with when we want little changes to the menu!!!

Best Chinese Food in Victoria. The vegetables are fresh and crisp, flavoured not with MSG or excessive salt, but with rich, savoury sauces and broths. The meats are perfectly roasted or sauteed, the seasoning here used to enhance and not to cover up the lower-quality cuts other restaurants use. The usual chow mein can be found here, but it is the variety of dishes that keeps me coming back. Both owners are very friendly and eager for feedback.

Best Chinese Food I've Ever Had!. I've enjoyed eating here several times. The owners are very friendly and the food is freshly prepared and very flavourful. I often find Chinese food to be much too salty and/or sweet, but not at Cozy Place. Their food is made with love and you can tell. Favourites are the eggplant, tofu, chicken chow mein, and garlic shrimp rolls, but I look forward to trying everything else.

The food more than makes up for the lacklustre atmosphere and decor. This is easily the best Chinese food in Victoria, and it's the best Chinese food I've ever had anywhere. I will be back again and again!

Best Chinese in Victoria and the Island! Light Fresh Dishes with Lots of Flavour and no MSG!. New and very clean restaurant with an open kitchen and friendly owners! The food is something light, creative and unexpected in Victoria. Traditional dishes with a few surprises mixed in. We enjoyed three dishes, brisket and tendon rice noodle soup, Cozy Place Chow Mein and the Garlic Shrimp Spring Rolls. The brisket soup was very flavourful, light broth with asian cabage and hand cut rice noodles. A great dish to enjoy with two or more people. The House Chow Mein was incredible; delicate wok friend noodles with garlicky baby bok choi, chicken and mixed seafood. Wish we had ordered two because we both loved it! The garlic shrimp rolls are by far the star of the show. Rolls are packed with shrimp and garlic, no noodles or fillers and served with a sweet plum sauce! They perfect accompaniment to any dish. All the food is made fresh, with very light oil, packed full of flavour and will leave you wishing you had ordered more! Can't wait to head back or order take-out.
