Super yummy! They have big servings here but the place is too small for large number of guests. They’re usually packed in the afternoon til dinner time. They only have 1 waitress which makes the waiting time longer.

Service was slow. The deep fried pork was overly fried so it was too chewy at times. Overall, we enjoyed our food there. I liked that they only had a few tables. Nice and quiet.

Went there because of the location and the rate is pretty high. Food is okay, a little bit salty. But the waitress is very nice and service is good.

We hope you are enjoying this misty, rainy hump day.  If the grey skies have you feeling down in the mouth, a little Thai cuisine may be just the thing to lift your spirits.  Our intrepid thrifty rooster about town, Paltry Pete, would like you to know that Sookjai Thai Restaurant on Fort has some lunch specials that will really feed you, at wallet friendly prices (lunch items range between $9.45 to $11.45). And the good news doesn’t stop there, Sookjai’s lunch menu is available from 11:30 am all the way to 5 pm.  So you can have a late lunch or early supper for little more than what you’d pay for a meal at a fast food restaurant (only a whole lot tastier and better for you).

This is the best Thai restaurant in the city, although it is not as good as it once was many years ago when it had a chef who made Chor Muang (purple flower) dumplings. It is slightly more expensive than some other Thai restaurants, but the food is also slightly better. The Pad Thai here is probably the best I've eaten outside of Thailand.

Service was quick and attentive. Food arrived within 10 minutes after ordering. Interior setting was dim and pleasing. Chairs and furniture was comfortable. Had the best pad thai. Was actually spicy when ordered "hot". highly recommend $ and time to visit Sookjai

Great food!. My wife and I went there for the first time last night. I had the chicken pad thai and she had red curry, both were fantastic. Pad thai was perfectly prepared and spicy (I asked for hot) and the red curry was creamy and delicious. We also got spring rolls with plum sauce (all house made) and they were wonderful. Excellent all around. My only very small complaint is we weren't served our food at the same time, about 5-10 minutes apart. Servers were all very friendly, prompt to clean our table, and fill our waters. Highly recommend!

I agree the best Thai place in Vic. Siam used to be the best but now that it's gone down hill. This place is #1 for flavour and food quality at least.

Hands down BEST Thai in Victoria!. Sookjai is my absolute favourite Thai restaurant in Victoria. My partner and I have been coming here for years, and we've never been disappointed. Their curries are delicious (especially the Panang!), and their Pad Thai is incredible. It is the perfect balance of sweet/sour/spicy - and the noodles are always firm, never mushy. Perfection! I consider myself to be a Pad Thai connoisseur, and the Pad Thai at Sookjai is considerably better than Baan Thai, Thai Lemongrass and Zap - and equally as good as what's served at Sabhai Thai in Sidney. The M- F lunch specials are a fantastic deal!

Best Thai restaurant in town. Sookjai has the best Pad Thai in Victoria, hands down. They are perfectly chewy with tons of flavor. They have amazing soups, desserts, rice dishes...
I'd like to say everything I've tried has been good, but recently I thought I should try something new that I normally wouldn't order and I chose a bbq chicken. It was tasty...but not what I expected and pretty unappealing, just a big hunk of chicken on a plate. There was still hair on the chicken and it was too salty. I still liked it, Sookjai still is the best, but it was not my favorite dish from them.

Not very busy in a thursday night which was nice. The service was good and the food came quickly. We had crying tiger, a chicken curry and a pork dish. They were all superb! If you come here be sure to order rice with your meal especially coconut rice because the dishes don't come with rice or noodles.

I'll be back Sookjai, I will be back.. After a year of wanting to try Sookjai, a friend and I set out for dinner there last night. I had been warned that the prices were up there but that the food was worth it....AND it's true. We enjoyed everything except perhaps the mystery sauce (foot-sauce?) that came with the crying tiger beef. Yes, it smelled (and tasted) like smelly feet...and not in that "ouuuu exotic" kinda way. That being said, the beef itself was good as were the chicken dishes we ordered (BBQ & red curry in coconut). I may try some other main dishes the next time I go, but I will definitely be re-ordering the appetizer - Kratong Tong and believe it or not, the coconut rice. OMG!!!!

Higher-end Thai. Probably the best in town, but there are a plethora of mediocre Thai places (Baan Thai, Little Thai Place). It is a little more pricey than most as a result but, I think, worth it.
Phad thai, red and green curries are all fresh tasting and very passable. The fried snapper in hot and sour sauce is totally to die for and the best I have had.

Plate-Licking Good Thai. My parents, hubby, and I went here for a nice meal out. It is classier than the Little Thai place, and you do play for it. However, the food is delicious.

So, as we finished the meal, my husband literally picked up his plate and began giving it a good tongue cleaning. Seriously, he licked the plate. Despite being incredibly embarrassed, I kind of understand where he was coming from. If I didn't have such an ingrained sense of class and dignity, and also a healthy dose of shame, I would do it too.

I especially love the desserts. My favorite is the mango parfait thing. So good!

Sookjai is worth returning to for the banana spring rolls. I'm looking forward to trying their other seafood dishes. And according to our server, they're open for lunch on Saturdays. But should they open for lunch on Sundays, that's reason enough for me to have lunch after the weekly sermon from our priest at Christ Church Cathedral.

I visited Sookjai after a couple of years after my last visit. I felt the amount of bean sprout in crispy pork got smaller: still tasty though. The portion of the chicken was a bit smaller than what we expected for the price. Other than that, chicken was tender and juicy. I would revisit to try other dishes - noodles, etc.

An incredible family owned restaurant with homely vibes and lovely staff. We ordered the vegetarian Thai curry and it had a ton of veggies and the quantity was quite good. The pad Thai noodles were a bit chewy but had great flavour. I will definitely be back here again!

One of the best Thai places around. The moo Gratin was probably my favourite since I don’t see it on the menu for many Thai restaurants. They had an unique approach when it came to the mango sticky rice. I would prefer the more traditional method. I would come again when I’m in Victoria

Very nice little place, friendly staff, fast service, great food. We ordered the non-spicy Ocean on the Land for kids and Thai Spicy Green Curry Chicken for adults, both came out exactly how we liked! Fresh sea food, authentic Thai curry! Recommended!

This is really good Thai food for a fair price in the center of Victoria BC! If you like Thai food? This is the place to be! Great service, excellent food, good price and delicious flavours. Sookie always welcomes you with a smile. There is a lot of choice. And they also have their own spicy pepper sauce for 12,50. Try it and buy it! You can find it also in stores in Victoria. The best!!

I'm going to speak to the ratings I gave, which were all 5 stars: The food is ALWAYS super good. Rich and tasty and somehow it doesn't absolutely destroy my bowels. And I get it spicy, and my guts are pretty sensitive from years of travelling, so that's saying something. The service is always good. The food never takes a long time to come out, and they never seem to get annoyed when my girlfriend makes them go back over and over again so she can stare at the menu for another 5 minutes. The atmosphere is busy, it can get loud. The tables aren't far apart so sometimes you can hear an entire person's conversation. Normally I would be less into it, but somehow at Sookjai it kind of ads to the ambiance. It feels like you're in small family restaurant full of people who have discovered a hidden gem. A bunch of regulars who just can't stay away from the great food and service.

Amazing food and service. One note I will make is that at first I thought the prices were high. However, these are extremely big portions. One dish covers two people. So be aware not to order too much.

Wow!! Amazing quality of food and a really exotic palette of flavors… Thai food this good is hard to come by. Truly artesanal in craftsmanship both visually and in taste. Also, plentiful serving sizes! The servers were nothing but friendly and had wonderful suggestions. The only complaint I had was that with menu offerings at these prices, it seems a bit gimmicky to charge extra for things like plain rice… while I understand charging for it, I think it should come with the larger curry dishes, especially considering the already steep pricing. Nonetheless, a really memorable restaurant experience and this place is often packed to the tee - expect a long wait and come hungry!

WOW! Would return and would highly recommend!! Flavours, freshness, portion sizes are just perfect. Probably the best Thai I have had since living in North America for 18months! Cannot wait to return when back in the area 🤤 We also ordered the Chicken Satay, Fresh Juice, cocktails (not pictured) Everything was sensational. Come here and have a great experience. Maggie was also an awesome server 😎

Really great experience overall. Food is delicious and portions are generous, especially the protein, where many other places cheap out. Staff are a little over-stretched, but the service was friendly. It's a busy, bustling spot, well worth your time.

Good food and amazing service, they’re super nice. If you like spice but aren’t a spice hound I would say “thai hot” is perfect for the pad thai and “hot” for the curries since they tend to be a bit spicier. Definitely recommend the mango and sticky rice, it’s made with black rice which is hard to find in a lot of places. I think the prices are a little steep but not crazy especially for downtown.

Great food, great staff. Love that when I call for takeout during a busy time, they call me back within 5 minutes. Does not disappoint and I love that it’s family owned/run. The food is top notch and I love supporting this local business.

Really good service to start, i really appreciate it! I was disappointed about the starters ( fish balls, spring roll and banana roll) . It was more like what you can find in a cheap buffet so i would try a salad as a starter next time. We had a hot crying tiger ( a bit overcooked but nothing too crazy) , a hot chicken green curry, deep fried pork ( this one was dry but really tasty) and a red chicken curry with coconut rice on side as main courses I was really suprised by the size and we brought leftovers home. It was really good so it kinda balance with those bad starters I would love to had some green onions, cilantro and lime on the table for toppings . Cocktails are really good and you can have a nice bottle of cab sav for 20 $ wich is great as well. We appreciate the experience and with some changes, especially on the starters side i would definitely put 5 stars!

5 on 5 for service. Maggie was great and super friendly to talk to. As for the food, We found the spring rolls to be a little on the oily side but their green as well as ginger garlic curries with coconut rice were the best. Also, The pad thai that we ordered disappeared in a couple of minutes into our stomach. We felt that the overdid the veggies and the curry bowls had less curry and more veggies. Normally these curries have a different blend of veggies at all the other places I have visited for Thai food and that's the only thing I wish for them to work on.
