Review La Taqueria Pinche Taco Shop - Victoria

Great place for some great tacos 🌼 😋 We have dined here several times now, and as of late, for the Happy Hour menu. Tacos are big and filling and priced well. They are well presented and put together. We had the Fish, Cauliflower, Carnita and Bean tacos, delightful. The Guacamole and chips are yummy too, the chips are nice and crunchy with the right amount of seasoning. Definitely recommend. It's our favorite place for tacos any day of the week 😋

Aye yaye yaye! Lunch was everything we could ask for. Fast service and really yummy meals. We had the fried chicken burrito, fish baja tacos, beef burrito and of course the very tasty and chilled Miss Hibiscus Margarita. Definitely coming back to try more tacos and special drinks!

I have this a 5 star, based on the whole experience not just the food. The food was very good, especially the fish tacos, but could easily be a 4 out of 5. What was great was happy hour. Great deals on quality food and drink, and super nice, efficient, friendly staff. I would absolutely go back, especially for happy hour!

In and out quick for our first try at La Taqueria. The space is pretty cool with the exposed beams and venting overhead, the bar and kitchen being in the middle of the restaurant is also nice. Staff were super friendly and pleasant especially our server. My daughter and I had a taco each, she had the al pastor and I the carnitas, both on corn tortillas. I love that they used both a yellow and a blue corn tortillas and were warmed nice and soft but cooked. The carnitas were quite nice. Nice balance of flavours although as a personal preference I wanted a little more crackling/fat to lean meat ratio. All three hot sauces(not pictured) were their own flavour profiles and heat levels so that was A+. The pastor for my daughter, she said was “ok”, she rates it a 3.5 stars as she was looking for that nicely shaven/char from the meat that’s cooked nicely on the spit and she feels she didn’t get that. (She’s had a lot of Al Pastor at different taco stands in Mexico last year, so I feel it’s a fair opinion). The pineapple salsa was a bit much for her in terms of ratio with the meat so she took some off which I ate and I quite liked them actually. Cannot wait to come back to try everything.

The tacos were super delicious! I’m super happy I tried this place. The tacos were a bit pricey but I will come back. And I would love to see what they have for their happy hour. Highly recommend!

Great value tacos! Super friendly service. Recommend to go during happy hour. Overall I liked the tuna and fish one the best. Their tortillas are super tasty

All the taco choices are very special and delicious. There's also a wonderful cocktail menu. The BEST is the positive manager and our favourite kitchen staff. They even remember us visit to visit.

We came here recently for the first time. Ordered four kinds of tacos, the fish baja, atun, mole, and campechano. The fish baja was delicious, atun (seared tuna) was also great. I tried the campechano because it was “todays special” and also looked great on the featured picture that they have next to the cashier. I was utterly disappointed with the campechano because when it arrived at the table, looked NOTHING like what the picture by the cashier showed. It tasted overly sour, and there was no cilantro. We also tried their churro and they were fantastic. Overall everything was good EXCEPT for the campechano

Lots of seating and many taco choices (vegetarian or meat) and flour or taco shells. Price is a bit high compared to others but the tacos are for sure stuffed full. 4 tacos and a drink makes a meal ($28). There is happy hour from 3-6.

SERVICE: Excellent! They make you feel like their long lost friend. FOOD: Great food! Come here often and always have a good time. Also, they have a good selection of real spicey sauces. ACCESSIBILITY: Street level entrance with a standard 32 inch pull door with a interior rubberized door mat. Tables are high and seating is free standing. Wide throughway between tables and service area. Bathrooms in the back down short wide hallway. One bathroom is small with no assistance fixtures and the other bathroom is larger with an assistance rail. There is no gantry.

Amazing tacos and cool atmosphere. Would definitely recommend eating here if you are visiting Victoria. The beef cheek and beef tongue tacos are fantastic. Tender and juicy. The different hot sauces they have for you to try are great as well. Quick service and we had to order a second round cause everything was so good!

Had a nice time with my friends here, I thought the price is a bit high until I saw each taco is stuffed. But I’ve been there twice, they keep telling me that they don’t have prawn taco. The dining table on the left side was narrow and noisy, and had a strong cooking smells.

Very quick service. Gluten free and vegan options. Fantastic flavors and variety of tacos. Baja Tacos come recommended. Salsa bar is squirt bottles. Lunch in the summer can get too hot, no air conditioning.

Excellent taco pitstop! They're quick and who i think is the owner is super nice. Ive also ordered online takeout too. Very convenient. Love the seafood options. They also have churros. We waited awhile for them and got an extra one to apologize for the wait. They were nice and hot but unfortunately not the type of chewiness im used to having in a churro. Must say ive enjoyed better ones at other places.

Love !
This!
Place!

This is a duplicate listing for "La taqueria."

These are amazing Mexican street-style taco.
The De Cachete tacos are amazing although a touch greasy. But that's just how it is, deal with it.... it's frickin delicious!!

My go to order is 2 Asada, 2 de Cachete, 1 Tinga. Drench them in guac and chipotle, wash them down with a Negro Modelo and you might have one of the best meals you'll eat in Vic for $20!

After several weeks trying to avoid falling in taco-temptation, my cousin and I went inside La TaquerĂa with the determination of eating as many tacos as we could.

Lengua couldn't be skipped. Such a tender, juicy and succulent part is difficult to execute and find abroad. This people know how to cook it, so dare yourself and try something outside the box!

The carnitas watered my mouth since I smelled them. I liked the pickled onion they put on top of them, gives a nice crunchy-sour twist.

Give veggies a try, those poblano peppers know how to win hearts.

The beans were lacking attitude, ingredients, and personality... I would give them the pork grind, cheese, the spiciness they require.

Swallow everything with the aid of a perfectly executed mezcal cocktail following it's trend.

A great place for quick tasty Mexican tacos. Lots of veggie options, including the brand new selection of burritos added to the menu!! Fish tacos are crispy and flavourful with the right balance of sauce and slaw. Smallish in size and not super packed so order more than one - look to their quantity special to try a variety of options. The sauce selection varies from mild to hot and made in house along with traditional style tortillas. This is in the style of traditional Mexican street food and different than Tacofino across the street which are Baja-West Coast style so no comparison. Quality food and owners are eager to please.

Good selection and very reasonable prices. Delicious flavours. Lots of free extra salsas/toppings. Cheese quesadilla is the best. Service is friendly and fast.

I love the tacos here. I find them to be the most authentic that I've found in Victoria, along with all the trimmings! They even have Horchata. Yummies!

Just a heads up for those that own a microwave...
As confirmed by management via email, all meats and fillings are prepared and cooked on the mainland facility. Then, it is shipped to the Victoria location to be reheated for your dining pleasure.
You can do better at home.

Love la taqueria pince! Their Baja fish taco is delicious and the beef tongue and cheek are amazing! They have the best guacamole. The staff are always super friendly and make sure that everything is made to your satisfaction!

Stopped by La Taqueria Pinche before a film and we had a really good meal. The service was friendly, the meal came out super quick and the food was delicious. Good, fresh flavours; really tasty tortillas. The Agua Fresca was so refreshing on a warm summer evening. The fellow at the cash-register was really welcoming and the whole place had a really upbeat, positive vibe.

Went to a couple places for tacos tonight due to a mix up and one of our friends went to another taco place down the street by mistake. . . However, we started off here, and today just happened to be taco Wednesday. Great deal for some great tacos! Fresh, flavourful, authentic, friendly staff and I liked the layout of the place too. Plenty of seating and the open style kitchen is pretty cool. The flank beef and pork confit were my favourite out of the 7 I tried tonight. Will definitely be back again to try the rest of them :D

Damn that was good! Got it before the line went out the door. Authentic tacos with tasty fillings. The salsas are unreal. I had picante medium, and it really was a proper medium. Vegan friendly, too!

Super yummy tacos at a great price! I love that you can mix and match the tacos as well, so you can try them all with one order to find your favourite!

So far I've been to La Taqueria in 3 different locations. They're all similar in taste but the amount of horchata you get is different. So far, I have got the least amount of horchata in Victoria for the similar (if not same) price. Also, their taco is average in Victoria.

Super hip joint. Staff was great!Reasonable prices. We tried 8 different types of tacos. Beef cheek was the clear winner! Will def return.
Worth noting all tables are high, with bar stools/benches a little challenging for youngsters. Though maybe they don't want them there ;)

Best tacos in town. Authentic style tacos that come quick and reasonably priced. Add a little mescaline Margarita for a mid meal buzz. Highly reccomended

La Taqueria is a recent arrival to Victoria from Vancouver. I have eaten at both their Vancouver locations (waiting in absurd, but worthwhile line ups at the Hastings location). La Taqueria claims to offer authentic Mexican street tacos.

Full disclaimer — I have never been to Mexico. My childhood visits to California almost never entailed sampling the best of what that State's Chicano population had to offer. My adult life has been spent working with little opportunity to get away on holidays. So if you ask "Are La Taqueria's taco's authentic?" My reply has to be: how the hell should I know? My other response would be: does it really matter?

I understand the obsession with authenticity that many North Americans have. For people like me who have had more "staycations" than vacations upon becoming a working adult, eating out and the hunt for authenticity is a surrogate for actual travel. Some of us who grew up in the suburbs may still sting from memories of cheap knock-off joints that use ethnicity as a marketing gimmick, like being shamed by someone for thinking Taco Time was real Mexican food. For others the ability to knowledgeably pronounce on "authenticity" is a basically an elitist merit badge that is used to separate them from the pack — and I've been guilty of that too. But that obsession is ridiculous and can blind us to good finds in our local food scene, like La Taqueria.

This visit to La Taqueria I had the four taco special: the beef cheek, the beef tongue, the pork and pineapple and the chicken and chorizo. They were all excellent, though the beef cheek and tongue tacos were my favourites (note, I tend to prefer pork, lamb and chicken to beef) and I'd live to see more rare cuts of meat and offal to make it onto the menu. There is a lot of flavour to be had in those two tacos so do not shy away from them.

La Taqueria also offers two (higher priced) fish tacos and a variety of vegetarian friendly tacos, which are the next on my hit list. They also offer four different salsas and an employee will be happy to suggest which salsa goes best with which taco (green salsa goes with all of them). They also offer two bowls of condiments, marinated onions and a kind of Mexican antipasto with jalapeños and cauliflower. I love the open kitchen concept and they are licensed, offering a tequila and mescal to enjoy with your meal.

Hit up La Taqueria and enjoy their food. It is good quality and not too badly priced. Don't worry if it is 100% authentic or not. How could it ever be 100% when we are nearly 2200kms from the Mexican border? So relax and enjoy, "authenticity" can always wait until "mañana".

In the heart of Victoria's crowded taco district a new contender has arisen. Being a vegetariano myself mexican food always has had a special place in my heart. La taqueria comes across as another clean and simple mix and match taco place, but the fillings and salsas were outstanding. I had the four different veggie tacos to try. My favorite being the rajas con crĂšma, then the bean taco next, and the other two were even. The flavour of the beans was amazing. And who could resist creamed vegetables on a tortilla. I tried all 4 different salsas which the staff made a point of explaining to us, which were all delicious. Although I won't know my favorite till further testing. And the spicy ones do have a nice satisfying burn. I love a nice fresh burning salsa. I loved the bowls of pickled vegetables and onion too, a nice authentic touch. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. I personally can't wait to go back.
A Tip Is A Gift Not A Right
Tuesday movie night last week and my wife and i decided to pop in. Not my idea of great tacos but they weren't the worst. It's definitely NOT authentic by any standards. Although in fareness i don't think that's what they are after.
As you can see from my pics we tried a lot of things unfortunately.
1. Open concept kitchen i wouldn't expect to hear swearing and screaming to the point it was uncomfortable to stay for any length of time. Not sure what was going on but one guy sounded like his vocabulary was limited to the f bomb.
2. Was shocked to see the fillings came in some sort of sealed pre packaged bag. Meaning they must be made offsite somewhere like sysco? This is disappointing.
3. Quesidilla was really and i mean really delicious.
4. Most of the meat fillings for the tacos just didn't taste fresh. Might have something to do with the fact i saw the cook dump a new "bag" of meat on top of the remaining meat. Should have a fresh container every time.
5. Veggie fillings were all pretty good especially the creamy corn one.
6. Not a fan of a no service restaurant expecting a tip. If it's not full service I'm not sure what your tipping for. Next thing you know McDonalds will start expecting tips.
7. Decor for this new place was pretty cool, unfortunately dusty, dirty bathrooms looked as if they hadn't been cleaned since the construction. Chose to use the washroom at the theatre.

My rating might have been higher if it weren't for the dirty washrooms and the foul language. Definitely beware if you bring young kids.

I will try them again in a bit as it's probable they are still ironing out the kinks of opening.

update: went this passed Sunday unfortunately besides the washrooms being cleaner I wasn't encouraged to go back. Was speaking with the cook and i found out ALL the fillings are made in Vancouver, frozen and shipped over to Victoria. Too many fresh options available to eat frozen, prepackaged food. Standards just aren't there....
