Review Chorizo & Co. - Victoria

Ashley W
This Mediterranean styled tapa bistro seems to be a hidden gem at a time when many sub-standard restaurants are requiring paid reservations and add restrictions to your time to enjoy being out. Not here. Rich flavoured food, and a great selections of drinks. We had the grilled cauliflower, grilled Humboldt squid, special spot prawn dumplings, dry aged chorizo (it’s in the name - just order some!) and churros. He had a couple HH wines for $6 and cocktails. This is a restaurant you should put on repeat!

Stopped here for some small bites and a drink during happy hour. The food was so delicious. The morcilla bombs were my favorite. Our bartender (and the owner) was friendly and welcoming. Would definitely go back

Had a great dinner experience sitting at the bar. Had the happy hour tapas & drinks AND the Sable Fish fresh sheet special. We’ll be back!!

Had a great meal here with my family. Everyone had something different and the groans of pleasure came from all of us. From the hamburger to the paella, the mussels to the pork belly, this restaurant exceeded all expectations. It’s small, intimate, warm, inviting and the service was excellent. I’m so glad for this wonderful restaurant! Try it. You won’t be disappointed.

One of the top restaurants in Victoria! Unique menu with amazingly perfect flavor profiles. Great for a special date night or just a a casual dinner out. The staff are very friendly and very knowledgeable with food and wine pairings. 100% recommend - it is definitely my go to spot to impress friends and family!

First of all the bartender was fantastic. Cocktails were phenomenal, you can tell there’s care put into them. Didn’t catch his name but he was there Friday night. Food was solid enough, menu was inspired but execution didn’t quite match it’s ambition or price. Surprisingly the chorizo itself wasn’t very good, tough and dry. Great atmosphere and great drinks though, perfect for an afternoon cocktail.

We enjoyed our dinner at chorizo and co. Calamari as appetizer were tasty with fresh ingredients. We had to order some extra bread. We then ordered the large paella and the plate was huge. It was topped with large amount of fresh fish and calamari steak, very nicely seared. The paella dish was a bit wet (too much sauce) but we enjoyed it. We had no stomach left for dessert... Maybe next time!

This place deserves all the stars! Our food was delicious not to mention presentation was quite impressive. The owner was so super kind and came to talk to us about our dishes and to ensure we had everything we needed. He even went so far as coming to our table answer a question I had about our drinks. Chorizo and co is such a fantastic little spot to have a nice date night. A huge bonus is that meals are made to share so you can get a bit of everything! He also mentioned that veggies (and possibly meat) is farm to table. Anyways this was a 10/10 and we will be coming back.

Great food. I had a grilled Humboldt squid and roasted potatoes for starter. The grilled Humboldt squid was terrific, neither chewey nor too fishy at all. The starter with potatoes was also great. Staff was kind. Want to try other dishes on my next visit.

This place should always be busy! Love this spot tucked in on fort street. As a local, this spot is always at the top of the list whether for a glass of wine and a snack, or the full dinner experience. The food is consistently delicious and the service is excellent. I love the squid which often changes in accompaniments but is always amazing, and the paella is a great one for sharing. The cocktail and wine options make decisions easy. I always start with a cava!

The food was exceptional. Olives, fancy potatoes, meatballs, paella, scallops, and an assortment of deserts. Everything was remarkable and sooo tasty! The prices were completely reasonable and the service was right on time. 10/10 - will definitely come again.

Everytime I visit Chorizo & Co. I'm left with the same question. Why am I not here more often? The food is outstanding. Great mixed drinks and well curated wine list. The vibe casual, friendly, the service excellent. It all makes for a terrific dinner out. Thank you. I highly recommend.

Wow. This meal was sublime! I had the Ménage à Fois, and it was spectacular. Bone marrow, duck hearts, and fois gras with a glass of tempranillo. For dessert I had the Crema Catalana and a glass of Lustau East India Solera sherry. Again, amazing. Highly recommended.

Wow.. what a meal. Went in with my hubby at happy hour. Stayed longer for dinner. The bartender, best skinny margarita. Verbena calm cocktail.. so refreshingly no sweet adult cocktail. Such an unassuming little restaurant with a very cool atmosphere. If you want to come to an adult, cool vibe restaurant bar with the most sophisticated food, come here! You will not be disappointed. Food and drinks to die for. We had the pork belly and wow.. the pairing of the sauce is very unexpected and tasty. Cuts the greasiness of the pork belly with a slight taste of citrus.. what a combination. Genius chef!! Thank you to our waiter for his recommendations. It was the best tasting food and drinks I've tasted for a long time. I highly recommend to try this restaurant for happy hour and dinner!

My husband and I came to Victoria and heard this place was good. It did not disappoint. Creative dishes and unexpected yet delightful flavors! The wild rice cake was amazing. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive. I had the burger. Will be returning for sure!

It was like being in Barcelona! We had small plates only - patatas bravas, mussels and clams (spicy and aromatic) and white anchovies on toast with capers and other goodies. Lovely Gran Reserva to go with it all, perfect on a cold,.rainy Victoria night.
John Bentley
Had our anniversary dinner there last night. What a treat! We were torn between the jerk chicken for two or just order a few tapas - we decided on the latter. EVERYTHING was delicious. Cool, hip atmosphere and staff were attentive.
Maggie Serpa
We loved the food. It was creative, tasty and reasonable size portions. Especially loved the 20% off food items during happy hour and 6$ glass of wine. Definitely my new favorite spot in town.

I am Spanish, and I was tired of phony 'tapas' places in Victoria, with watery sangrias, and well...'wannabes.' Then, a friend told me about this place. I called and spoke with Tomas, owner. He confirmed he was from Spain (Galicia region). I tried the food. I LOVED it! And I totally recommend this place!! There is no other place like it (for now) in the GVA.

I don't just come here because I love the staff, or the space is warm and inviting. I come here because I often miss the short time I spent in Spain. This is a real Spanish eatery. Seasonal Padrones peppers, fried or pickled fish, Spanish tortilla, great sausage, excellent cheese, beautiful jamon, and lots of pork fat if you know the right questions to ask. Johnny and Tomas run one of Victoria's little gems and you should check it if you haven't already.

If it were possible, I believe I would eat here every day. Amazing food, terrific staff, beautiful atmosphere.

Super friendly atmosphere, good coffee, oh and the bocata sandwich is a dream. Can't wait to come back and try everything else!
Anna Smith
Great breakfast sandwich, and wonderful staff!
Lesley Taylor
We had our first meal here and the sandwiches were both excellent! We indulged in both kinds of tarts for dessert - a small, custardy beauty with the best pastry I've had, and a lovely almond tart that was also delicious! We will definitely be back!

Amazing food and exceptional service. Chorizo is a gem. (Try the daily torta.)
Rafferty Funksmith
The food is so good. Service, atmosphere is all great but the real headline is the food. If you have tastebuds and a functional brain, EAT AT CHORIZO.
Jesse Owens
Bocata is perfection. Cafe Bombon is delicious. This place impresses me every time.
Alice Bacon
I love this place! The coffee is superb, the food is excellent and the owner and staff are lovely. I always feel very good after visiting.

Ordered lunch for the office. Service was excellent (timely, helped to carry order to my car). Great reviews and feedback from the the office! I had the calamari -- delicate and delicious. Would definitely do business/ come here again :-) Keep up the good work
Bertha Callins
Love this place. Always stop in for lunch when I can. Usually get the chorizo sandwich, but I'm also a big fan of the Spanish tortillas (especially for a smaller lunch or snack)
Daniel Leão
Great food, great service. Good for lunch, or dinner. Love the breakfast bocata!
Rick Marzolf
Tomas is a great host and a great barista to boot!
Brij Charan
It's just so yummy. The chorizo sandwich is my favourite.
Allyson Miller
Went for dinner tapas! Best sangria! Tapas at amazing. Staff was superb!
Javier Bustos
Great food, great people, great atmosphere! Check it out! :-)
Marion Osberg
Had a great lunch and a glass of Spanish wine. Very nice and helpful staff
Alana Fediuk
Enjoyed my meal here quite a bit. Sangria was on special so how can you go wrong? The food here tastes fresh and yummy. Not quite as flavourful as some other Spanish tapas in the city but still good. The lemon tart I had for dessert was definitely the highlight of the meal. Will be going back to try the lunch sammies for sure.

We wanted to try this tapa place because of the reviews. We went on a Sat. night and the place was empty when we arrived. We're seated upstairs and had the whole place for ourselves. Between the 3 of us, we ordered patatas bravas, chorizo & honey, pollo au vin, paella and finished with churros. I probably would have enjoyed the meal more had I not spent a year living in Barcelona, and imho, the tapas at Chorizo & Co. are lacking the colour and the big Spanish flavour punch.

To give C&C another try, I went back with a friend, for lunch this time. My friend ordered the tortilla and a salad and I had the calamari bocadillo. The calamari was tender, but after a few bites, it just got very boring and dry .

Will I go back? To Spain, definitely YES. To Chorizo & Co.? hmm, maybe.
Ehahaha
Note that after 5pm, this place becomes a tapas place, and the lunch sandwich menu (listed here) is not served.

But even though we got tapas instead of sandwiches as planned, it was very good.

Best menu item: the fried potatoes. Then the chorizo. Chicken liver was pretty good. Stuffed peppers were good. Meat plate was okay. Mussels were average. Meat balls were kind of dry.

Portion sizes were good for the price. Decent wine and beer selection.

Ambiance was nice. A little dark, but that's what they're going for.

Service was average. Maybe our server was new, but she didn't really seem to know what was going on. Kind of blunt too, but overall nice.

Would go again.

Edit: Went a few more times. Once for lunch. The sandwiches are fine, but a bit too salty. Again for dinner. Chorizo and the potatoes were still excellent. Other tapas items were good but not that good.

Must-Visit. Delicious food, great little cafe atmosphere, friendly staff. The chorizo was absolutely delicious and the cone of churros does not disappoint. Highly recommend for an afternoon snack, lunch, or just a coffee & treat.

Love Sandwiches and Coffee. I've been here several times for lunch. I usually have the Chorizo or the Calamari Sandwich. They are both delicious. A bit on the large size, but I always manage to eat it all. Very friendly staff.

Burnt Bun and Undercooked Meat - Yuck!. I ordered their meatball sub sandwich to take out. By the time I got back to the office I noticed that the grilled bun was severely burnt. I could not believe they thought that serving burnt food was acceptable. Obviously I am wrong. Whoever prepared the sandwich obviously would have noticed the burnt bun. The meatballs as well were not thoroughly cooked (they were a bit pink inside). I am definitely not going back.

So good.... I have tried several menu items (chorizo sandwhich, calamari sandwhich, ) and everything has been delightful. The atmosphere is modern & minimalistic and service is warm & friendly. Can't wait to go back.

Delicious. The breakfast sandwich is amazing. Simple and sooooo delicious!!

Bueno. Authentic spanish food and friendly owner. They are installing a big tv for the world cup in Brasil, to watch during lunch hours. Try the Pan con tomate, Calamares, La mancha, and churros!

GO SPAIN

Wow. I dream of their sandwiches! Delicious!

Great Authentic Food. We tried this place for the first time on a Saturday night - we heard their tapas were amazing and we left there feeling the same way! We tried one of everything (and two of some things!) on the menu as it all sounded great...the empenada was delicious, as were the croquettes, cheese selection and of course the chorizo! The selection of beers and wine are from Spain, which helped make it feel like an authentic Spanish dining experience. The service was excellent - water glasses were never empty, our server was knowledgeable about the food, and nice to chat with. An all-round fabulous night out with friends where we could enjoy good food & drinks in a relaxed atmosphere!

I've been so excited to try this place and it didn't disappoint! It was a tough decision but I decided to try the first item on the menu board, the chorizo sandwich. Perfectly seasoned sausage with all the trimmings (but not too much) on a soft portuguese bun, SO good. For under 10$ too!

Excellent; You have to try it. Awesome food you won't get anywhere else in Victoria. The Chorizo sandwich is really good but when you try the Pepito its hard to try anything else. Great owners who treat you like an old friend.

Highly recommend! Bocadillos (sandwiches) come on chewy baguette or fluffy Portuguese buns, fillings are fresh, delicious and nicely constructed. Lovely service too.

Fantastic Lunch!. Stopped in yesterday for a quick bite and tried the Calamares Sandwich - it was amazing! The calamari was perfectly cooked and seasoned, which can be very difficult to find. If you like calamari, you must try it! I've been here before and tried the Chorizo sandwich and the La Mancha and they are both also very good. Somehow the food feels like comfort food even though I'm eating it for the first time. I'm excited to return to work my way through the menu!

SPANISH DELIGHT. I was pleased to find an AUTHENTIC bistro based on SPAIN and not MEXICO, which is the common mistake some restaurants make. Not that there's anything wrong with Mexican/spanish food, but when one is looking for tasty SPAIN/Spanish food, you need not go anywhere else. Not only is there a generous and fulfilling portion, but when leaving, you can stock up on all the essentials, genuine Spanish cheeses, Genuine Spanish chorizo, and Genuine Americano Coffee too. The only thing I would add, which is unfortunately NOT genuine Spanish fare is: Pickled banana peppers to add a touch of heat to the pallate if one so desires. And "No" I am not the owner, just a local REALTOR who has taken clients to "Chorizo and Co." much to their delight as well. :)

Had the calamari sandwich with the best potato salsa ever! My husband had the chorizo sandwich, they were both fantastic!!! We will be back very soon!

Try it out. Finally made it in for a quick bite to eat. The staff was friendly, the decor simple yet stylish, a nice little unit of Spanish influenced groceries to purchase, cured meats they bring from The Whole Beast in Oak Bay, and a nice simple menu. I had their pork sandwich called the Pepito. Very simple with thinly sliced pork loin and a spicy type of relish. Good fresh bun as well, served on a cool trendy wooden sandwich board. My friend had the Calamari sandwich and it was really good as well. I will be back.

Incendiary Dining Experience. I work across the street, so I was interested to see Chorizo and Co. move in this past month. I finally got a chance to try them for lunch today and was so glad I did! Usually my go-to restaurant in the area is Shiki Sushi, but I'll be splitting my time from now on.

Decor and Ambience: Chorizo and Co. comes across as a bit stark in terms of decorating, but as a somewhat ADD sort of diner, I found that to be a real plus when trying to decide what to eat. There are various tempting Spanish deli items as well as cold sandwiches that are in the display case and it's easy to tell what is what. They had some lively Spanish music, and it was very much presented as a hip lunch place.

Staff: The two staff members that I interacted with were both super friendly and happy to recommend dishes and provide explanations of how the dish is prepared.

Menu: The menu was clearly marked and easy to read. As mentioned before, the most expensive items were the hot sandwiches, which were $8. It's really not difficult to put a fabulous lunch together in the $10 range.

Food: OUT. OF. THIS. WORLD. I had the Calamares sandwich, which was comprised of a grilled bun, calamari, and a garlic aioli coleslaw. The calamari was perfectly cooked, a lovely combination of crisp and tender. The bun was clearly fresh and grilled to perfection. The coleslaw had a fantastic crunch and the flavour complemented the calamari perfectly. Another plus: the sandwich itself was a decent size, which is pretty unusual in a small-plates world.

Honestly, my lunch hour usually involves wolfing food down as quickly as possible and trying to figure out how to juggle my afternoon workload. This transformative culinary experience stopped me in my tracks and made me slow down to savour the experience.

I can't wait to try the other items they have to offer.

EDIT: I went back for the House Chorizo sandwich - also incredible. I wasn't sure I'd like the chorizo, but I'm now a total convert. Also wonderful was the Spanish tortilla which at $3 would make a great breakfast or snack.

Three different dishes in the same day - all delectable. I can't recommend this place enough!

Great place!. Went with a few friends. They both had the grilled chorizo sandwich and loved it. I had the calamari sandwich and it blew my mind! So tender and fresh. The staff were great, the space is lovely. A great addition to the victoria lunch scene

Great new deli & cafe. Chorizo & Co. does it right. Great location, great vibe, hip staff and extremely tasty food. I had the Chorizo bocadillo, which is a hot sandwich with grilled, house-made chorizo, peppers, some sort of hot mayo, and arugula. Delicious.

It's just great. I'm going to come back for the Jamon sandwich. Really affordable, too. $8 for the most expensive sandwich?

This place delivers. Will be returning on a regular basis...

A great find for a Friday night : very authentic tasting tapas (potato croquette, tinned octopus and those almonds!) plus Spanish beer and wines by the glass. Have to try to paella next time.

The housemade “Gallego” chorizo sausage from the relatively new-to-the-scene Chorizo & Co., a Spanish deli/cafe found on Fort off Blanshard. They love their ingredients, so definitely ask for tips at the counter if you’re not sure what to do with their selection of meats or cheese.
Jen
The chorizo was amazing - spicy and savoury with a lovely char. The spicy mayo on top was a nice addition - just helped to lubricate the bread and chorizo a little bit. The bun was soft and squishy, although my partner-in-food-and-life and I concurred that if it was just a smidgen thinner - not even a 1/4 of an inch - it would have felt better proportioned.
