Review Murchie's - Victoria

This historic business was recommended by several different people in different locations. I had to make a decision upon entering the store. There was a line outside the store for pastries and coffee. That is my favorite place to go and indulge, but it was cold outside so I visited the tea emporium. Hundreds of selections beautifully displayed and easily walkable. I bought several gifts of tea and tea cups. Definitely a high light on my vacation to Victoria BC.

obsessed with the tea shop; perfect for a quick sit-down afternoon tea. the apple strudel brings out the sweetness in apple slices and was just enough as a sweet snack. the asam tea was very thin - tastes almost like water though… but cannot complain being served with a whole silver serviette set. would come back to try other teas and desserts. lastly, the store has cute tea pots and a very wide selection of tea.

Nice lunch spot in downtown Victoria. They have the retail tea area where you can buy just about everything you could ever want. They also have a nice little sandwich counter with pastries and other bites. Good prices, but service is a little slow.

This place is amazing! Elegant design with European style! A bit long line up to order foods, which means this restaurant is quite popular! Foods are amazing, the apple studel is very crispy; blueberry lemon rolls very yummy as not that sweet; the croissant ham and cheese is exceptional great; plus the wild west sandwich is so good with the montreal smoke meat! Love this place and would recommended to friends!

Such a great shop to visit! Next time I'd love to try a beverage and pastry, yum! This is a cute old fashioned shop with a huge selection of tea and accessories. A great souvenir if you like tea.

So many varieties of tea to choose from. Large space for customers to sit down and enjoy. The price is reasonable.

Have been meaning to visit this place last few times, finally made it. And Thankfully they are open on Thanksgiving Day! Delicious variety of baked goodies, their tea and regular coffee are definitely to be tasted. We ordered some sandwiches and the ladies were nice enough to toast them at our request. The only problem is that there are not enough vegetarian (or vegan) options, but the food quality is great. And their store (though slightly expensive) is a must visit to look at the history and the fine china that they have beautifully arranged. Hands down, one of the best Downtown Victoria locations - not to be missed!

Cute place with some nice pastries (raspberry tart was very nice, brownie was okay). Drinks were good but not amazing (not as hot as I would have liked). They are very busy and there was a long line but lots of seating available and cute trays that they served everything in. They also have a shop attached. Nice place to come for some tea and relaxing when you’re downtown. I imagine it’s quieter in the winter.

Murchies has the best coffee! We also tried a variety of desserts while we were there, and they were all absolutely delicious. If you're in the downtown area, I would highly recommend a stop at Murchies!

This is a must experience place if you like coffee, tea and everything associated with it. When I left there was a lineup out the door, so plan to spend a bit of time here. Cuz you are also gonna wanna browse the store too for neat teas, gifts and treats. There is also a huge selection of loose leaf teas to pick from which the selection process is an experience on its own. Atmosphere and staff really make it a place to remember. Would 100% recommend and visit again when I am there next.

The sandwich here is really good, hot and fresh. My mom really enjoyed it. I bought the 6 inch strawberry cheese cake here, and felt like it was not like other typical cheesecake. The strawberries on top of the cake were sweet but the cake itself was not overwhelmingly sweet like other cheesecake. The level of sweetness is just right and fantastic with a cup of tea or coffee. I arrived there at 10am on Monday and waited for 20 minutes to get served. The only downside of this place is you need to pick up and return the tray before and after your meal. This doesn’t match the vibe of place. If they can have someone bring the tray to you, I would be happier to give tips. Overall, good place to enjoy breakfast and afternoon tea.

I stopped in here twice so far 😊 coffee ☕ was ordered the first time around and was really tasty ❣️ good customer service 😀👍🏽👍🏽. Second time I had the gourmet tea and a dessert, the tea was amazing 🤩 it was a tea latte with vanilla, First time trying that really Good 👍🏽👍🏽😊. The dessert was a soft and hard and looked amazing and even tasted better ❣️. Again the service was ok. The sandwiches they have look really good, I will try that next time I go😀. The menu looks good, plenty of options for tea 🍵☕ ❤️

So good!! We got a couple different things for a small breakfast and everything was delicious, well worth the bit of a wait - and I totally get why they had a line everything was very good! We got an almond croissant, a raspberry fruit tart, a pana cotta, a Victoria tea latte, and two of the vanilla iced teas - I may be remembering the drink names wrong btw! - and it was all very good. I do with the large drinks were a bit bigger for the price but they were still very good. I also liked how the iced drinks weren’t watered down at all.

I know this place is known for its tea but we had the best pastries and coffee! Almond croissant tasted so crispy and fresh. The raspberries danish was also equally tasty. The lemon tart had a delightful light lemon custard filling and the most crumbly crust. We also got something called chocolate roll and it is hard to describe (you have to taste it) but all I can say it was so light and flavorful! And cheesecake was just the perfect amount of sweetness! This will be a definite stop for me next time I am in Victoria!

A fun local tradition since 1894. Right in the heart of Bastion Square, a pedestrian only street in downtown Victoria, only blocks from the waterfront. Set in a beautiful historic building, this place is always busy for a reason. There is a line at the counter where you can slowly peruse the baked goods and scan the menu and drink boards above to make your selection. Meal items are in the case on the other side, but ordered from the same line, so a quick peek ahead of time will let you know what your meal options are. Lots of coffee and drink combos available with friendly service. Dining tables both inside and out with washrooms downstairs (you need a code) and a gift shop and take home coffee available in separate areas. Once you place your order, you step to the left to wait for your order to be prepared. If you're dining there (inside or out), they provide napkins and cutlery on your tray with your order. Fine al fresco in this lovely spot with a tree in the center and enjoy the bustle of the area. Perfect spot for a meal, afternoon tea and scones, a morning breakfast on the go, or a full meal. I regret not ordering a dessert, but plan to return tomorrow to enjoy a few other items. I had the featured tortilla, which they serve warm or cold, with chicken and roasted peppers. So tasty, especially accompanied with a small fruit salad and a citrus iced tea. Would definitely recommend for the history alone, but the food was very good. Popular for a reason.

An elegant and sophisticated tea and coffee place with reasonable pricing and a large variety of beverages and pastries. Highly recommend Murchies!

Good coffee and all sorts of baked goods and sandwiches . They also have a tea shop onsite

Everything was extremely tasty! Very good :D Just taking one star because we waited for like 20 minutes to get our orders (which were only cookies and coffees)

Omg! I love this place!! Always a line and from the outside look like a small place but once you enter the shop is huge! They have tables all over! There are gift shops, a tea/coffee store, and a bookstore. Very friendly staff, delicious food, and drinks! The place has a very fun vibe! Especially a great spot for people-watching!

The best tea shop in the west! Lots of variety and oh so super-fast delivery all year long so you will never have to miss a single cup.

So quaint! I love the layout of the tea shop and cafe side by side. Very dangerous for a tea lover like myself. Wonderful place!

There is no better place In Victoria to go to have tea with scones, clotted cream and preserves than Murchies. Spending that time with treasured friends is priceless.

Great tea/coffee shop vibe, courteous service and fabulous products! Was it busy? Yes! No surprise there with such great stuff. I never miss it when in Victoria.

A Pastry Chef myself. I found Murchie's to have authentic British charm. Fantastic tea. And gorgeous pastry.

I love going to Murchies as it's so very English and reminds me of Betty's in my beloved Yorkshire. The marzipan slice needs to be more marzipan/almond smack in the mouth taste, but it was nice and the tea was definitely not Yorkshire gold but still pleasant. My daughter loves your giant cookies and hot choccy. Nice for the ambience. Will go back.

Not as tidy as it once was. Such a busy place and my food was great but a smile or acknowledgement would have gone a long way. Got a thank you for returning my dirty dishes.
