Review 10 Acres Kitchen - Victoria

Gavin Doyle
Note that this location is really three separate parts. There is a separate bar area. Quite pricey as advertised as it does follow a local and organic theme. Nice and quite even on a Saturday when operating at capacity. The burger and fries were quite decent and the cannoli for dessert was good.

The location is best. It is across the Miniature World and the Empress, and a few steps away from the Inner Harbour. We came at around 10pm. The Kitchen was not so busy at that time on a Thursday night. However, the bar in front was very crowded. Staffs and service were great. Our waiter was very friendly and gave us some great recommendations. We tried the beef tartare and humboldt squid small plates for starters and tortellini and angus steak and frites (we sub fries with vegetables) for entrées. The beef tartare is our favorite. Nothing can beat that. Would recommend to anyone who looks for a place that open a little later and a finer dining experience in downtown Victoria.

The dinner was truly delicious. We had squash from the farm prepared uniquely and wonderfully as well as fresh halibut. The setting is actually really nice active and warm. The murals are lovely. They have a really nice eclectic local and international wine list and you couldn’t ask for a better sommelier than Adriano. Also Italo was a fun, helpful and efficient server. Only little issue was the bussers who could have provided the right flatware and fresh dishes without prompting. Will definitely be back.

This is the more upscale offering in this great establishment serving more fine dining patrons. The concept is still the same: fabulous meals comprised of produce grown on their 10 acres property, meats from farm raised animals, and local fish. The cocktail list is fantastic, the appetizers are mouth-watering, and the entrees well thought. We love going to the kitchen for a special occasion, like a birthday or a celebration, as opposed to the more casual Bistro or the laid-back Commons.

Memorable food Food was outstanding. Fresh, well plated and prepared. I also had a 10 acres Caesar with an Oyster chaser - was so expertly prepared with a big crispy bacon strip, well seasoned. Was a real memorable experience.

Farm to table at 10 Acres in Victoria Back West in the Comox Valley for Christmas, and the other day we drove down to Victoria to spend the night, and pick up my sister and nephew. An opportunity for a nice local dinner, and the farm to table menu at 10 Acres Kitchen ticked all the boxes. Just down the street from the Empress, 10 Acres is a higher-end dining option, but it really does offer quality for the price. The reasturant sources much of its foodstuffs from its own farm in North Saanich, from veggies, fruit and honey to ethically-raised livestock. They also source from other local farms and seafood producers on Vancouver Island. I was set for the five-course tasting menu, but as the rest of the table was not I had to get more tactical. My sister and I agreed to split two appies for the first course: the Toast and the Pan Fried Oysters. The Toast is dungeness crab and hand peeled shrimp with basil,  romesco and gruyere served atop a thick slice of toast. It was a plentiful portion and very tasty, but I did find it a bit too salty. Still, a tasty appetizer. Next up was the Pan Fried Oysters, which is breaded and fried Fanny Bay oysters served with preserved lemon aioli and pickled red onion. I actually have a connection to Fanny Bay Oysters -- one summer when home form university I did some general labour for them, seeding beaches, and later harvesting beaches and bringing them back to the facility for processing. I've never really been a raw oyster person though, so I was keen to give the fried oysters a try. They were fine, but not something I'd go out of my way to order. Just not my jam. As there was going to be a delay with our entreers with the kitcken was backed up, they brought us a complementary chacutiere tray to occupy us during the wait. Much of the stuff was fancier than I usually eat, but I enjoyed the  Ossabaw pork and the roast garlic. When we had our fill of chacutiere , our mains were ready. I had ordered the Chinook salmon (ocean wise, of course) with smoked Albacore tuna rice. Now, I was concerned about the rice as I don't really like tuna. I asked the waiter and he said it was prety tuna-ish but that I'd enjoy it, so I decided to go fot it. Maybe he got them to make it without tuna and didn't tell me, or maybe it's high end tuna with no tuna taste, but I got no notes of tuna out of this rice brick that served as the bed for my perfect morsel of salmon. Instead, all I got was baked, cheesy deliciousness. The salmon was pink, flaky and perfec, tand the accompanying vegetables cooked perfectly and fresh. A pricier meal than I usually eat but a very nice Christmas treat, made tastier knowing we were supporting local producers. No room for desert, just a walk along the harbour on the way back to the hotel to burn it off.

Cool spot with restaurant on one side and seemed like bar/club next door. Great food and service. Dimmed lighting made photos hard, but food was delish!!

Went here for our 5 year anniversary. I cannot speak more highly of this restaurant. It is within the 10 Acres family and is the "higher end" of the three. When they found out it was our anniversary they poured us some complimentary champagne. Dinner was top notch and presentation was superb. Servers are all very friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back!

Had a lovely meal here the other day. The set up of the room let's you have more privacy whilst eating which is nice. Waiters were friendly and service speed was okay but the restaurant was pretty empty when I was there. Food was tasty and large selection of dishes to choose from.

Honestly a wonderful place with a great menu and fantastic wine selection. Only thing, which to be fair is just my experience and may not reflect the entirety of the restaurant, was the staff were not as attentive as I was hoping for. Our packaged food was delivered to the wrong table, initial drink orders took a long time, and service was generally slow considering how slow the evening was. Overall atmosphere was fabulous and a great place to bring anyone for a delicious farm to plate dinner.

As of the time of writing this, some of the best happy hour specials in town. At $1 per fresh oyster with good drink specials this place is hard to pass up. The oysters were some of the freshest I've had and they have a great selection of local craft beers. I went on a Thursday and combined $5 pints of Fat Tug with dozens of oysters. The view from their patio is one of the best in town. I am a little worried that the specials are too good to be true and won't last.

Excellent concept! The food was delicious. The service was very good. A few more menu options for vegetarians would have been appreciated. My wife and daughter were happy with portion size but I would have preferred a more generous one. The desert was scrumptious! Wife and daughter wanted more of that!

We had the best dining experience of our lifes! My husband and I had the tasting menu with wine pairings, and it was so delicious. The whole experience was fantastic, the staff had such good communication between them and we felt so well taken care of. Perfect anniversary dinner! And according to my husband, best pasta dish he ever had! (Spaghetti carbinara) I wish I could give them more than 5 stars!
