Review Los Huesos Restaurant - Vernon

Great space, and quite busy on our friday night visit. Will be making a reservation next time to ensure we don't miss the GREAT , food , service and vibe. The portions are large and two of us will be sharing one of these foot long super tasty stuffed to the brim burritos next time. Hope you also enjoy the fresh chips, salsa and guacamole washed down with a margarita

Beautiful Mexican restaurant. Authentic dinner special. Absolutely loved the flavors. Service was attentive and the lime margarita & Pinã colada are really the best in town.

Absolutely wonderful and flavourful! My fiancé and I received beautiful service. The portions were huge! The picture on the left is the Renello (with beef) and the picture on the right is the special of the day, a pork burrito. We will definitely be back.

I first went to Los Huesos five years ago with a co-worker. I took my girlfriend here who is visiting from the Philippines. They don't have Mexican restaurants there, so it was a great excuse to take her to Los Huesos on Thursday AND Friday. On our first day we tried the veggie nachos and the deep fried ice cream. So many vegetables and so much cheese like nachos should be! On our second day we had the quesadilla Loco (4 quesadillas which comes with flavored rice and refried beans). It was excellent! We tried going tonight for the 3rd day in a row but sadly they were fully booked by 5pm. Ah, I should've been there right at 4 or reserved ahead of time! I should note I really liked the music played in there. They are classic tunes played with a jazz or acoustic variation. It becomes a game of Name That Tune while you wait. The portion sizes are perfect to split between two people. You'll feel very full and satisfied!

Delightful service and meal. Food preparation and presentation is outstanding though a bit bland if one does not request a spicier version. The marguarita was tasty but we found it a bit sweet. Every person has their own preference. The establishment is tidy and clean and our waiter positive and enthusiastic. This restaurant is a natural choice for those wanting a bit of "south the border" cuisine.

Or first visit to Los Huesos. Had the chicken chimichanga. It was a great choice for our first restaurant visit in a long time. Food was excellent and the staff were friendly. They seemed to be a little short staffed, but that is acceptable and normal these days. We will definitely be back.

We really enjoyed the quality of the food, the service and the atmosphere. Large portions, fresh ingredients and homemade salsa and chips. A definite win with us. Worth checking out.

Wow, fabulous decor and ambiance. A taste of Mexico in Vernon. Food was top notch and authentic. Portions were large. Staff was very pleasant and engaging. Mexican Dos Equis beer made the experience extra authentic. The beef quesadilla was scrumptious and tasty!Prices were very reasonable. Highly recommend.

Great food and atmosphere. Spoke with the owner who obviously loves making great Mexican food. The portions are large. Next time we go we will split an entree.

Went Saturday night. Was very disappointed with the food. the Quesadilla was the worst we ever had. My wife quite often orders this dish. Just meat and a tiny bit of cheese, very dry and chewy. The Burrito was just ok, not a lot of flavour. Thought it was pretty expensive too. The staff were very friendly and the decor and sound system were very nice. They did take the quesadilla off the bill, but was surprised that they thought the food was ok.
Found this place on the 30th ave strip ... So delicious. I had the verde loco burrito and my handsome man had the enchilada rojo/verde combo. The portions are huge! Great value, and authentic. The atmosphere was romantic but relaxed and The live entertainer Brook was also great. I would come back all the time if I lived around here.

Great place we stumbled on. We walked in and the place was packed. Great atmosphere. Drinks and food were great. I'll be back. Sit at the bar Luis is great to chat with.

My favourite Mexican spot in the Okanagan. I love coming here. Gotta get the guacamole. Sauces are homemade and tortillas for my fish tacos were also homemade.

Best Mexican in the Interior. My band mates and I popped over for dinner before a gig at The Vernon Jazz Club. We all absolutely loved our meals. Very authentic. I go to Mexico every year, and this restaurant nails the real thing. Choosing the "heat" level is a great touch.

Wonderful!. Great service, amazing (absolutely unreal!!) food. The salsa is so fresh and flavourful(the best salsa I've ever tasted) I order enchiladas and they are to die for. I order them with level 8 heat intensity thinking that I could handle it but it was holy s**t hot so is recommend getting at the most a 5 so it's easier to enjoy.

Very Good!. Was here approximately 1 month ago and was very very impressed with the food and service.
Prices were reasonable too.
Can't wait to go back with my guy for another go...

Excellent. Every time I've eaten at Los Huesos, its been fantastic. They have the best guacamole (probably because its made fresh and ready to order) and the margaritas are amazing, its hard to have just one. I'd recommend the enchilada divorciada, or the burrito fiesta, you get to try the roja and the verde sauce with both dishes. The ambiance in the restaurant is very cozy after dark, candles lit at each table and around the bar.

I was here on Friday night with my family. We loved it and didn't stop talking about hope delicious and fresh the food was for the rest of th night.. Oh and how full we were because we couldn't stop eating even thought our tummys were full! The service was fantastic, she had several tables and was very busy but still was able to meet our needs accurately and efficiently. I was very impressed and would recommend this restaurant to anyone I know. The owner came over the our table and introduced himself, he is very nice and moved here from Mexico. After reading the earlier reviews from "wacky man" I am a bit confused what kind of "authentic Mexican food" he has had.... He must be crazy because this is the most authentic Mexican food I have had in Canada. I eat a lot of Mexican and have been sick from beans before but after eating them on Friday I felt great! I would not take mr wacky mans word I mean why would you believe a crazy person? Check this place out... You will not be disappointed.
Daniel Della Valle
Wow that "Wacky guy" must really be on something when writing reviews. I've been a regular costumer at Los Huesos for over a year now and have never had a problem. You can taste the fresh ingredients from your complementary chips and salsa! The owners are literally ALWAYS there and wouldn't let something go wrong. I ate there yesterday, had "enfrijoladas" which is a bean based meal and it was delicious!

50 good reviews against 2 bad from the same person. I'd definitely give it a try.

PS. BEST margaritas on the rocks I've ever had.

Very good. Really close to food you would get along the baja. Service was good too

Great food and amazing staff! Every time I stop in vernon it's a must to eat at Los huesos. Never had a bad meal there
Alexis
Disappointing food, but service and ambience was ok. We had enchiladas. The enchiladas were ok though dry, I expected melted cheese with the shredded meat but it was just shredded meat so they were dry. The beans and rice were so incredibly salty I couldn't eat them. Service was ok as was the decor & ambience.

Best Mexican food this side of - well - this side of Mexico! The owners are amazing, the staff are great. The place is clean and fun.
A great little find. Best to make a reservation!

Food was so good, went there with a work party and none of us were disappointed at all. The presentation, food, prices and aosphere were great. They have a loyal customer next time we visit.

Couldn't have had a better experience! Great food, wonderful service and the best margaritas I've ever tasted! New favourite restaurant for sure

Best fish tacos ever!!. Went for a nice supper out. Thursdays are fish tacos and they were awesome. The retried beans and Spanish rice were delicious and the homemade fresh salsa and guacamole were amazing. Service is great and efficient. And save room for dessert because the deep fried ice cream is TO DIE FOR!! Thx Los Huesos.
Robyn
Excellent food, all homemade.
Service was great!
Try the deep fried ice cream :-)

Highly Recommended!. I was visiting from Vancouver and heard about this restaurant. Quite a cozy place and very friendly staff. We were first served fresh warm tortilla chips and freshly made guacamole. So simple but so good. I then had my entree which was a taco salad with beef. HUGE portion and I can honestly say that it was the best taco salad I've ever had. Lots of flavour and tons of slow cooked seasoned beef. And prices were very reasonable. The owners even came over to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. I will definitely come back here the next time I come back to Vernon. Thanks for the great service and the great food!

Norm

Great food but no kids menu. Pretty good Mexican. I changed the order from menu and instead of adding extra beans to replace the rice they gave me a thin little burrito. Service was soo slow and mixed up orders. The owner is a nice guy and the food is good. Don't bring kids as they charged me 12 for a little cheese quesadilla. If you want an adult meal from menu great place. They use to be terrible years ago then got much better but falling a bit. Hopefully can get it together again

This is a fantastic restaurant. The best Mexican food I have ever tasted! I have eaten in almost every Mexican restaurant in western Canada and a few in Mexico and Los Huesos is by far THE BEST I have ever tasted. They make their own salsa and guac dips FRESH ....RIGHT THEN AND THERE WHEN YOU ORDER IT ....they are AMAZING...I could have just eaten that as a meal ( cause they keep bringing it to you ALWAYS FRESH) and been completely satisfied but it was so good I ordered the Enchilada Divorcia and was even more blown away at how fresh, tasteful and filling it was. What else was impressive about this wonderful restaurant was how clean the ENTIRE place was especially the restroom. We were fortunate to have as our server Wendy, who we later found out was co-owner (along with her husband Louis) GREAT service! And such a nice couple! If you go there try to make the effort to chat up these two...so friendly and appreciative of their customers coming to their restaurant. This is by far one best restaurant I have had the pleasure to visit. I am in town (from Winnipeg) on a work training seminar and so far this has been the highlight of my trip. We have already made plans to go back this Saturday as they are having some specials that SOUND AMAZING....can't wait! I highly recommend this restaurant...5 STARS out 5!

Great owners - great food. We tried this little place a few years ago and were impressed by the food but really upset by the poor service. We gave it a second chance - WOW cool new owner, great food and great atmosphere. Way to go

Came here with a group of six, not anticipating anything too exciting but boy were we wrong! You walk in and immediately notice the cozy, simple and warm decor. The atmosphere was incredibly mellow and friendly, between the mariachi music and dim lighting. Our server, Wendy, was absolutely fantastic. Made some great recommendations, was extremely attentive to our needs and concerns and was just overall pleasant, friendly and welcoming. The food was beyond delicious! You could tell the meat was marinaded well because it was super tender and bursting with flavor, as were the sauces. They give out complimentary tortillas and salsa, both house-made and SO delicious! Wendy brought us over a variety of hot sauces to experiment with, which we all got a kick out of (especially our taste buds). The owner came around a few times to ask how we liked everything as well. Overall it was a wonderful experience, definitely the favourite for us in Vernon!

Great food, amazing people!. We found Los Huesos through Urban Spoon while visiting Vernon for its other hidden gem, Silverstar Ski Resort. The owners were super nice and attentive. The food was so good, some of the best Mexican north of the border. To top it all off, Wendy's (the better half of the ownership duo) brainchild - Los Huesos Deep Fried Ice Cream was nothing short of a ball of paradise in my mouth.

The best!. We have been here twice now, and both times were amazing. Anything with verde sauce is delicious and the service is top notch. Great value for fresh, authentic Mexican food.

Incredible Mexican food. I took my family of 4 to eat at the Mexican restaurant Los Huesos in Vernon, British Columbia. We had heard about it from some friends of ours in Calgary, Alberta. New owners Luis and Wendy have definitely found their calling. We started by ordering some beverages, I just had to try the lime margarita. WOW, you have to have one of these margaritas, absolutely second to none. We then moved on to some appetizers, tortilla soup, corn chips, salsa, and guacamole. All were home made and each were an absolute taste treat. Main courses, we ordered a stuffed pepper, burritos, and tacos all accompanied with rice and beans. Everyone gave a two thumbs up, just excellent food. Convinced by my children to try the deep fried ice cream, it did not disappoint. A lightly coated ball of ice cream drizzled in caramel and chocolate. A spectacular way to finish dinner. You don't get food and service like this by coincidence, hats off to you Wendy and Luis, job well done.

Not Bad!. Meh! This place was mediocre. The sauces were bland, it was lacking that Mexican flair. NIce location and trendy but thats about it.

Perfect except for the grumpy manager. We went to this great little Mexican restaurant in downtown Vernon. The atmosphere was great, live music good food - but that grumpy manager wow. We got in the door and he didnt welcome us in just continued with his business. He then said you can sit there ot there didnt take us. Our kids had cheesy chips that were a couple of bucks on the menu. He charges us full nachaos with meat pricing of $12. If he wasnt there it would have been great. He needs to stay home and let the cooks and staff run a great little business.

Kill me, and send me to Mexican heaven.. Oh wait... I'm already there... At Los Huesos.

This food is crazy... I can't even explain it.

Just go

Hello Vernon!. Soooo loving the restaurant vibe in Vernon over the past year!! Can I say... WAY better than Kelowna. My parents live near Salmon Arm, so no we make it a point of heading to Vernon for at least one meal every time we visit.

We go to Los Huesos every other visit... we love the food there. The first time was the best of all (about a year ago), but has remained consistent. Love the service, and the Margarita's are killer!

2nd Time Lucky. Having tried to find the "Great Mexican Restaurant" in Vernon, about which we had heard, and being (mis)-directed to Little Tex on our way through, we returned to Vernon today to find Los Huesos. After a stop at Okanagan Spirits for a tasting of their wares, and purchasing some, we travelled a couple of blocks and found the place we sought.
Peak of lunch hour, and we walked in to find ourselves the only customers. Is Monday that hard on the restaurants? We were seated and waited on promptly. Our (exclusive) server was setting up the tables for evening service. He brought my coffee promptly, with a small pitcher of cream, and a bowl of sugar. The Specials sounded very interesting, however the top item on the menu was Chili Relleno, a favourite of the two of us, and not something readily available back home. We ordered one each, mine sans sour cream. It did take about half an hour before they appeared, by which time there was another patron dining.
To help tide away the interlude before the arrival of the food, we received a basket of complimentary tortilla chips, and a wonderfully fresh Pico de Gallo, with no hint of cilantro. Bravo! Cilantro is either something one loves, or hates, and this avoided the latter.
Our server warned us that they serve a "Mexico City style relleno". What arrived was a Green pepper of undetermined variety, possibly a fat poblano, or maybe just a regular green pepper. It was well stuffed with shredded beef, topped with some melted cheese and some tomato-ish sauce, with a drizzle of sour cream on that of my wife. Also on the platter was some rice, chopped salad, and well hidden under the salad a tostada with ground beef and Refritos.
The seasoning was very mild, but the food was truly tasty. A couple of varieties of Tabasco sauce plus salt and pepper were provided.

I ate here recently and had the special, a meatball burrito. It came on a bed of their "home made" Spanish rice and smothered in their house chipotle sauce. The burrito was MASSIVE. It must have been a foot long and stuffed with four meatballs the size of tennis balls. Everything about it was delicious, the meatballs, the tortilla, the rice, and the chipotle sauce.my mouth is watering just thinking about it. I can't wait to go back and try some of the other things on the menu.

Good food but crappy service. Had to wait over an hour for food and didn't even get an apology from the staff. Never going there again.

So much food!. My girlfriend and I were walking around downtown Vernon last friday, hoping to get a table at the Italian Kitchen, when we noticed Los Huesos. Having lived in Vernon my entire life, I was quite enticed by a Mexican restaurant I had neither seen nor heard of. Upon entering Los Huesos we were greeted by no-one, and we sat ourselves. The decorum was exquisite stonework with a very authentic feel. A very talented young man played the spanish guitar in the back of the restaurant, which added authenticity to the atmosphere.

A very non-Mexican looking garcon brought us menus and informed us that complimentary chips were forthcoming. After telling that to three other groups of customers, and about 20 minutes, our chips arrived.

I ordered a chipotle something-or-rather (my spanish isn't great) special for 15$, expecting a reasonably sized dish, but what I got wasn't reasonable at all. I swear they have Mexican lumberjacks working in the kitchen cutting down mutant burritos to serve to patrons. I got a log of a meal, full of delicious meatballs, chipotle sauce, spanish rice, and the best refried beans I've ever had.

Overall, the food was delicious, the portions ridiculous, cost was reasonable but they seemed understaffed as service was painfully slow.

Is it open?? or what?. Been there for lunch and dinner - good food. However have tried numerous times to go back for lunch and it is never open despite a unchanged voice message that says they should be open - very frustrating!! We have given up...no signs on the door - just lights out....

3 spits from Middleton the Alpaca

Awesome Coffee!!!!!. Meals were very good and the prices very reasonable. The coffee was excellent!!! Does anyone know what the name of the Mexican organic coffee they use? Please post it if you do. Thanks.

Laid back and friendly atmosphere. Unfortunately they seem understaffed. Portions of food are great. Meals include refried beans and Spanish rice. Foods are all fresh and delicious. The piña colada was heavenly; I could swim in it. I don't drink often, but when I do, I prefer Dos Equis. Stay thirsty friends!

Just finished our dinner there! Service was friendly, food was awesome! I'm full, but didn't end up with the usual "food baby"! Fresh awesome mexican fare! Going back soon for another margherita...

Fabulons service, great decor and awesome food! At a reasonable price

Absolutely kick-ass Mexican food! Not your typical Americanized food... Very authentic if not a bit gourmet! Great atmosphere too! I had a mango margarita... I swear it was just blended up fresh mangoes, it was THAT good! :-). If ever in the Vernon area we will for sure be back!
BecofSunnybrookfarm
Not really worth the drive.. Very typical and average american-mexican food. Both the chicken taco plate and the chile rellenos were perfectly edible but nothing interesting or unusual enough to warrant a drive from Kelowna. In the end, there was a lot of chopped lettuce, shredded cheese and uninspiring pico de gallo which unfortunately puts the food in the category of very-high quality Taco Time.

Awesome, excellent and fantastic!. My wife and I went there on a friday at 6:00pm and we were the only ones there for about 5 minutes and then people started filling in. We got a complimentary bowl of freshly made chips and salsa right away. As soon as the server put the salsa on the table the scent of it hit my olfactory glands and it smelt GOOD. Needless to say it tasted just as good.

I ordered the enchiladas divorciadas and my wife ordered the chimichanga. Both were a very good sized portion and the entire meal was delicious. Our bill came to $33 or so which wasn't very expensive at all. Most of the meals were around $14 or $15 but for the quality and quantity of food it's well worth it.

They also had live music playing too but I had my back to that so I couldn't see it but it sounded really good, took my wife and I back to our honeymoon in puerto vallarta.

Go there people, go there soon, it's a fantastic place, both for the food and for the atmosphere.

Very Bland Food

Real potential. Drove up from Kelowna area to try this restaurant on a Friday night. Nice menu with a good choice of specials.
Food was out quick and was very good!!! The service however was almost nonexistent once the food was served.
And my classic margarita on the rocks came out of a Motts pre-mixed bottle.
This place has potential with nice atmosphere and very good authentic food. But the level of service and quality of the drinks I'd have to say it was not worth the drive and I won't be going again.
