Review Pickle Barrel - Vaughan

Alka Johar
We stopped by for lunch hour on July 5, 2022. Ambiance was good and we were greeted by our server Rachel. She was pleasant to talk to and indeed liked to offer us the deals that would make sense with our kind of combo. With regards to food, we ordered Zucchini pasta, make your own balini, Southwest Chicken Caesar. Food was good but in comparison of the portion size, price was good too. We ordered creamy tomato soup which they did not have to they offered minestrone soup instead which we gladly accepted however, soup was not at par. It wasn't hearty at all - no beans, very sparse vegetables and moreover it tasted like diced canned tomato being thinned out with hot water, salt and pepper. That is the only thing that we did not like. Other than that service and rest of the food was good.

“Finally! A restaurant that serves amazing milk shakes!” Went out for dinner with my mom last week. We weren’t sure where to eat so we decided to go to the pickle barrel. Had Marcello as our awesome server. I am so satisfied and impressed with service and portion sizes! I was looking for a place that serves decent milk shakes for the past 3 months. I wasn’t expecting this, it’s like the size of a pitcher and it’s only $6 Not only is the portion size huge and reasonably priced, but it’s also the best milkshake I’ve had. Also, all of the other food that we order was delicious and also had enormous portion sizes - we didn’t finish it all and it took us days to eat the take-away. It’s so nice to see a restaurant that is fair with their portion sizes post-Covid 19. They haven’t been stingy with the level of service that they provide to their customers and that’s a really nice quality to see. Definitely coming back and recommending others (thank you again for having amazing milkshakes!)

We visited on 28 April for dinner, The venue is quite spacious, good ambiance, well arranged tables, comfortable cushions, sofa n chairs. Fairly crowded. I opted for French fries with hot n Tomato sauce n vanilla chocolate fudge being pure vegetarian, My son n Daughter in-law opted for their favourite items..

Service is good but menu has changed a lot. They removed what made Pickle Barrel unique and added Knockoff versions of popular things from other restaurants. Bring back the matzo ball soup and original menu please. I had the beet salad with chicken, it was good and filling. I’d still go here if I was in the mall and wanted a quiet place to get some work done while I ate. I find it’s not busy often.

Our waiter was very nice and charismatic. Me and two of my friends shared a nacho platter which was not bad. I had the low and slow hot Alberta Beef which I thought had a really good gravy. The bun it was ok.

Excellent food. The restaurant follows current provincial guidelines and seated us with social distancing in mind. Loved everything we tried, service was quick and our server was very kind. We hope to return soon !

Loved my visit to location, Service was awesome and food was great. I suggest stopping by if your shopping at Vaughan Mills. Definitely will be going back in spring to check out the patio.

I ordered Chicken Parmesan, which came with soup or salad. The soup was creamy tomato and that's what I choose ... I'm not a big soup eater but it was good soup. The chicken and pasta was good too ... the chicken was a bit burnt on the bottom so I scraped off the burnt part. Everything arrived really hot.

This is a good place to casual dining and the prices are also reasonable and the staff is also quick and service.
Overall it is a really good place

With our first visit to Pickle Barrel, this location had a mix of good and bad.
The ambiance of the restaurant was great for an establishment that is nestled inside an outlet mall and very clean and spacious. We went thru the mall entrance and their host was noticeably absent from the podium and unfortunately, a staff member that was preparing drinks in their bar was the one that “greeted” us in a very unprofessional tone. Seems like he was having a bad day and showed this before asking another server to properly show us to a table.
Our server was very polite and patient with our order and gave us ample time to go through the menu. Drinks and appetizers were given in a timely manner.
The food was done as we ordered. The steak medium rare, the seafood linguine was al dente’ , the Spanish paella had nice portions of meat, veggie and seafood with the right spiciness and even the kids’ mini burger and chicken strips was very tasty. The main problem of a dish was just a piece of hair on the paella when I was halfway through it. I had to make sure it wasn’t mine (I’m bald!) nor it came from a part of the shrimp head. After examining it, it was a piece of long human hair. I did not finish the dish and when our dinner was almost done, I just asked for the check but did mention and showed our server the hair. He was apologetic and came back with compensation even if I didn’t asked for it. They took off the paella and another 15% off the bill.
This visit was saved by this server and I do have a 50 percent probability to come back because of this. And 50 percent not to come back because of the bartender(?) and hair in food.

First time at the pickle barrel! Pictured is a Ceaser, Taco, calamari, French onion soup and pot stickers. All of it was lovely aside from the fact that I prefer smaller calamari and not the large kind. I appreciated how we could choose just one taco or a few on one plate. I choose one because I wanted to go with a few other appetizers.

worst food and service ever and no compensation or apologies from manager even after we complained. Went for a family dinner for my children's birthday. 8 people in total. They charged us a gratuity for having a "large" party without telling us they would be doing so. Waiter almost dropped food on my sister in law, and then proceeded to reach across 4 people from the opposite end of the table to hand me my hot food. Food was incredibly disappointing. When we expressed our concerns to the manager, no apologies given. Service and quality of food at this location just keeps going downhill. Very disappointing birthday dinner for my kids. No birthday treats/song, not even a happy birthday from the waiter, even after telling him.

Had Chicken and Waffles. My chicken had a nice crispy skin but the meat was not as tender as I hoped it would be. It was nicely spiced, though. What I did love was the waffles. I loved that there were bursts of corn kernels and jalapenos as I bit into syrup-infused waffles. I would probably order this again (and hope that the chicken will be better next time).

Price ranges from $15 and up but the serving was quite significant. We were stuffed.

With such a huge list of menu items from all types of cuisines, it's hard to believe that food here is good (or fresh, considering all the ingredients they have to have on hand to prepare the dishes) so when I found myself here, I kept it simple with grilled cheese and fries. Other diners I was with were not pleased with their meal: dry meat, rock hard cookies they claimed were baked that day (ummm no) and cold pasta.

I like this pickle barrel. It's a comfortable oasis in the middle of what is sometimes a chaotic mall experience.

It's located in Vaughan Mills. I the nice weather seasons they have a patio that you can sit out on. As with most PB patios it's pretty great.

This trip I was with an octogenarian who preferred to sit inside. The inside is pretty great too.

Comfortable seats, lots of really great looking lighting. Music playing at a nice volume, loud enough that you can hear it but quiet enough that you can talk. No assault on the ears.

This place has the typical PB menu, something for everyone.

I got the Thai inspired beef salad. Which I thought was great as usual. My dining companion got the toasted chicken and avocado sandwich with sweet potato fries. She loved the sandwich. It was a monster in size. I had some of the fries. They were cooked perfectly.

It's a great place to duck into when the hunger strike and you are bargain hunting at Vaughan mills! You can rest your weary feet and grab so.erhung good to eat.
Breakfast here is great! The Pickle Barrel big breakfast (pictured) is a stomach filling savoury breakfast. And at this location, a great start before a day of shopping at Vaughan Mills Mall.

Trying this place for the first time , ordered randomly stir fry which ended up being amazing and also there veggie burger tastes good . Not that expensive but the location is built good inside the vaughan mills outlets .

It's a typical chain restaurant. It is expensive considering the food quality. Food presentation is slightly better than institutional. The menu is diverse and covers common north american fare.

I always find the food here pretty decent but that's all. Decor is nice, service is acceptable and lots to pick off the menu but really just average food. My spicy Hanoi chicken stir fry was alright, nothing special that I would get again or recommend. My boyfriend loved the Cali chicken grilled cheese but salad was average.

It's not a great sign when you can get a American burger, Asian noodles, or Italian pasta, all from the same restaurant. That alone should scare you away.

Disappointing Food & Customer Rekations. My family and I ate dinner at the Vaughan location. I ordered the meat platter, which, quite frankly, had some of the worst served food I have ever experienced. The amount of fat and gristle was excessive and not fit to quite frankly be served. The restaurant was not busy, yet our waitress was seldom seen. No manager in evidence working the floor and following up with diners about their experience. I even wrote head office about the problem and received nothing but lip service in response. Extremely disappointing for an establishment that professes to care about their clientele and their food quality. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND YOUR MONEY.

WOW. Based on the reviews I read, I would never eat there!

If only I could find the words to describe how gross this place is. Before I begin to bash this restaurant, let it be known that I only ate here due to the fact that I was in a rush. First of all, service is beyond terrible. Ordering a drink, an excercise that should take 5 minutes at an empty establishment, took 15 minutes. Secondly, food tasted worse than my taste buds could handle. French Onion Soup tasted like dirty dish water with rubber placed on top. To top off my apalling dining experience. The manager thought that he was in the middle of a G-Unit Rap Video Filming. Last time I checked, the manager is supposed to be the nucleus of any dining establishment. This one seemed like he could barely handle a plate to a table.

Food was Disgusting!. Six of us dined at this location for my cousins birthday. Along with slow service and improperly cooked food, I'm all but certain that the ribs that two of us order had in fact spoiled. They had a very strong smell of manure (literally) and tasted quite foul. The manager laughed it off and said they've had similar comments but that's just how their seasoning smells. Our waiter had the nerve to try and make us pay for our steaks (which were sent back twice due to an improper cook and very poor seasoning).

I forwarded my comments to head office. I was ultimately met with a very rude response and was refused to have this issue resolved to my satisfaction. The exact words were, "What more do you want, they took it off the bill." I see that being served meat that was quite possibly spoiled a rather serious issue. I filed a complaint with York Region Food Safety and look forward to their findings.

This is clearly an establishment that holds no value toward customer service.

After reading lots of weird reviews almost turned away but I just ha two mains and an app for under 50$ and the good was good staff was on the ball ! Will recommend to the next person for sure . And I don't know how they got our food so fast !

Horrible experience. First was sat at a table with three chairs when it was only two of us. Then the floors were disgusting, like do you not own a broom. Then the waiter forgot to bring us napkins we had to ask. We had both ordered the Canadian Cheddar Burger, the bun was dry and had felt like it was thrown in a microwave. The vegetables were on the bottom of the bun, which made the burger feel like it was cold(it probobly was). It had come with a side of coleslaw and when I went to graby fork..... Wait I never was given a fork. Then when I asked the waitress for a fork she gave me a wierd look, like as if she was wondering what I was gonna use the fork for (not that the coleslaw was any good). Overall a horrible experience and now have a stomach ache, please avoid this restraunt at all costs.

Pretty Decent Quality - Poor Customer Service. Pickle Barrel at Vaughan Mills is one of those "chain" restaurant joints that may have decent food - but absolutely poor-to-rotten customer service. On the upside, prices are fairly reasonable - and the food usually arrives pretty quickly. But again, don't expect pleasant customer service at all.

This place is terrible. The food I had was mediocre: some ok (quinoa bowl) and some truly bad (the California avocado roll). The time between the first and last meal arriving was 20 minutes, which meant we didn't eat at the same time. The server ran around and we were barely served. Oh, I would recommend wearing a long sleeved shirt to this "restaurant" because as I was writing this review, I put my elbow on the table and now it's sticky because they didn't clean the table top from the last patron's dessert.

And you know what? I actually like Glow, their other establishment at shops of don mills. But, you couldn't make me step in here again.

BAD. This is a wake up call for Management/Corporate. From all the negative comments, this location is badly managed and staffed. The staff is not trained properly in the art of customer service. Especially MILY P. our waitress for this visit. Below is a blow by blow of our experience.

Our family of 7 decided to go for lunch at this location, did not check reviews prior to eating. Service was pathetic; waitress had trouble dividing bill among 7 people, did not understand the difference between Tabasco and mustard, was disgusted with the fact that we asked for a spoon for the mussel broth. Waitress also never noticed that our glasses were empty even though she passed by more than ten times; we had to actually ask for refills. She never cleared our tables properly from the appetizers (mussels) and in fact we still had mussel shells until dinner was finished. When finally asking for a beer refill, the beer sat on the bar for 15 minutes and never made it to our table. She didn't even realize that she hadn't brought it yet. One family member was finished from dinner before the rest and she asked if he wanted desert before the rest of us were even finished. We were utterly disgusted by her attitude, she never smiled and the way she talked was not welcoming at all! Every time we asked for something it seemed as if we were an inconvenience to her.
Otherwise the food was good.

Your staff or policies need a very SERIOUS overhaul, if it were not for the location of this restaurant, I can guarantee failure in a few months.

Terrible!!! Service is lower than slow!!! Food is just ok, but again the service sucks. We have been sitting at or table done trying to get waiter so we can get bill for the past 20 minutes. This location is the worst and getting worse with each visit. Unfortunately this will be the last time we ever eat here again.

Bad. Every week we go to Pickle Barrel in Vaughan miles and food was good. last night we went there and my food was awful and burnt I told the manager he didn't change it .He said our food is good and normal . I choose BBQ chicken from kids menu,I just want to recommended parents to taste the food that you buy for your kids.

Nice place. Good food! Service was ok. Chocolate milk wasn't big enough!

BAD. My family and I spent the day shopping at Vaughn mills mall, a family of five we all wanted to try The Pickle Barrel. The service was so bad, the food was served ice cold. It felt like we were there forever. The bill 126.76 + tip. We made sandwich when we got home.

Amazing food! But again poor service

My experience at Pickle Barrel located inside Vaughan Mills exceeded my expectation. As I don't really have much expectations at all.

Patio area is spacious and well laid out with a mix of sunny and shaded area.

Surprisingly it was empty on a Saturday evening.

Service was attentive and we were being checked on numerous time!

Daily drink special with at least a beer and cocktail for $5. If not there is also Beau's in bottle format for around $10.

A great place to chill out after some shopping at Vaughan Mills!

After a day of shopping at Vaughan Mills, stopped off at the Pickle Barrel for a late hearty lunch. It has been a while since I visited the Pickle Barrel, but I had a pleasant experience on every visit. The restaurant was full and we needed to wait 5-10 min for a table even though it was 4pm on a Sunday afternoon. I guess we were not the only hungry shopper that day.

Originally decided to come by for a coffee and dessert, however after looking at the menu, we developed a savoury craving. We decided on the Buffalo wings and the Montreal smoked meat; which in my opinion is great comfort food. The wings were huge, and much larger in size than the typical wing restaurant; and it was actually meat and not all batter. The wings were deep fried like most places, and had a buffalo sauce that was not too mild not too spicy. The meat on the Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich was cut thinly, and an overall great deli sandwich; however I couldn't tell the difference between this sandwich, and a regular corned beef sandwich. It was missing the typical Montreal spices on the bark to give it the unique Montreal Smoked meat taste.

The Pickle Barrel is always a crowd pleaser, and the atmosphere, menu, and decor always reminds me of a Canadian version of the Cheesecake Factory. Definitely delicious after a shopping escapades, however don't know if I would purposely come her just for dinner.
The Pickle Barrell at the Vaughan Mills mall is your standard Pickle Barrel - nothing spectacular, but quite a decent option for you to have a nice Canadian/American kind of a meal. The food too is standard across all Pickle Barrels, and the service is friendly and prompt with no frills - what you see is what you get!

The food is a medley of burgers, sandwiches, pastas, steaks, grilled fish and the works. And of course, their famous milkshakes - and I'm talking massive here (see the photos!!). The burger was quite nice, but the spaghetti with meatballs was quite dry. The milk shake was divine - rich, creamy, and truly lip-smacking delicious!

My Canadian friend calls Pickle Barrel a very Canadian eatery. Curious, I visited the place with him and a few others. Interiors were amazing, waitresses hospitable, overall a good first glance. I ordered the Blueberry smoothie and chicken sandwich. The blueberry smoothie arrived first. Tasted heavenly, extremely filling (thank god I ordered something light like a sandwich.) All in all, it was a very satisfying meal for a decent price.

I imagine that this location is pretty much the same as any otherPickle Barrel place you might find yourself, and I have to say that I was pretty impressed with the service in the place. The P.B. is still a chain, so don't look for much individuality inthe the digs or the food, but it's overall pretty good. The burgersand grill options are good, but some of the pasta dishes arelack lustre. They still have 'Killer Shakes', their trademark milk-shakes at a whopping 35oz.I will say that that the place was packed, a little too busy for my tastes. Doubtless this is due to the franchise's location atthe Vaughn Mills Mall. So, if you're looking for a quiet venu, look elsewhere.
