Review Genji Sushi - Vaughan

This is the place for you if you love real sushi! Great service! Beautiful atmosphere! Highly recommend this place!

Spicy bento dinner has always been my go-to at Genji. They make the best spicy salmon. Their tempura still has that crisp after it has cooled down. Other places, the tempura gets soggy pretty quickly. And the spicy bulgogi is just *chef’s kiss*. Genji has always been 5 stars in my eyes. Their service makes you feel at home, they are accommodating and just overall happy. The one star deduction is their rapid rate of price increases since pre-pandemic. I went from paying $18~ in the middle part of the last decade to now paying $27 for the same great quality spicy bento dinner. Their increases have been around $4~ increments. I would understand increases during the pandemic but this significant change since pre-pandemic has made me scale back visits.

Service ok Price ok Food ok Nothing too special, would go if I am in the area and crave sushi. Would rate higher if there was anything special but everything was just normal and rolls were border line ayce style.

Wow really great location! This will be my new go-to for sushi. Delicious sushi, much better than all you can eat. Good portions. Also cleanest restaurant I've been to for a while. You can tell the owners take pride in their restaurant. The waitress was wonderful. We had a baby and she was very accommodating. Definitely recommend eating here!

This was one of the best surprises I’ve had in a long time. After a hard days work 3 of us stumbled upon this delicate little spot and WOW!!! You want to talk about flavour explosions on your palette 💥💥💥. And as exquisite as the food was, the service matched it every bit. Well done Genji 👏👍👊

The service was great and very quick! I came here with my friends and they all enjoyed it

One of the freshest and most delicious sushi I've ever tried. It's close to my work and we come here quite often. It's one of the best sushi places in town.

If you want quality sushi, sashimi and rolls. This is the place. I like spicy rolls and their spicy mayo is good. I like the thin layer of rice and love the option for brown rice. I have done takeout and have dined in and always happy. Even service has been great. So bottom line. There is a thing as bad and good sushi and this is phenomenal!

One of the nicest Sushi places in town. Enjoyed their Veggie Variety. Spring rolls were similar to other restaurants. Would recommend to try this place out. Cheers!

To be truthful, this is the first time I've had Sushi so I'll be reviewing from a beginners point of view. We were three hungry friends looking for a place to have dinner when they asked me if I wanted to brave Sushi(they've obviously tried it before). I fired up Zomato, and found Gengi Sushi to have quite some praise to it and decided to check it out.

In simple words, I LOVED IT!

We had 40pc Sushi platter with Miso soup and Tea. Even though I was fumbling around with the chopsticks for a while, once we started on the food it was amazing! The soup had a very nice tone to it. And for my first bite into Sushi, the texture really took me by surprise, a torrent of strong flavors(I love strong flavor, maybe coz I'm Indian) and textures mixed together with the Wasabi and Soy Sauce-had me reaching for the next piece immediately. If its Sushi, I'd recommend this place. The whole ambiance of the restaurant is well done - soft lighting with light music and the whole traditional setup going on. The waiters were courteous and were happy to help us through the menu - which is actually a huge plus for newbies like me.

All in all, a Delight! Would love to hit this place again! Try something new next time.

I have been to Genji Sushi several times before this review, and I have always liked them from both a service and a food quality perspective. The restaurant is small, so if you can, make a reservation ahead of time. Once we arrived, we were promptly seated at our table. I ordered the lunch sashimi tempura box, and it came pretty quickly. The tempura has been fried just right (light crisp), and the sashimi is fresh.

The White Tuna, and Sake sushi are fantastic. The Dragon Dynamite roll was also really good! Ademame was really fresh and the miso soup was really good. Great atmosphere, and with their little booths it would be great for dates.

Genji Sushi is super super delicious! Everything that I have tasted there so far has been an amazing experience! Service is great and it is highly recommended! Another hidden gem in the North York area of the GTA!

Fabulous venue!. This restaurant has some of the best food ever! The service is marvelous, the setting is lovely and quaint and the food is exceptional. You will not be disappointed with any dish that you choose and you will be delightfully pleased with any of your choices. Superior quality food and positively delicious!

Excellent. This isn't a Michelin-starred restaurant by any means, but you do get excellent service and a la carte sushi and other Japanese food. I have been here more times than I can count and have never left displeased.

FWIW this is probably the best sushi place in the area.

Brilliant Sushi. The best thing about non-AYCE sushi places are that they each have incredibly fresh ingredients, with bigger portions and top quality ambience, service, etc. Genji is no exception.

The restaurant is quaint and well decorated. The servers were super nice and were always around, even though we were tucked in a corner. The gyoza was brilliant while the hand rolls were plump and juicy.

The highlight though, just as I've found with all of these non-AYCE joints, are the specialty rolls; phenomenal from top to bottom. The Green Dragon are tip top, and the other rolls (the names escape me at the moment) were to die for.

Hit up Genji, and prepare to be satisfied beyond belief.

Genji Sushi is hard to beat. Some of the best sushi in the GTA.

If you live on campus this is hands down the best sushi within walking distance. The quality is worth paying a little more for.

Thankful. It was great to find a Sushi Restaurant close to where we live, and not have to deal with the traffic. The place was perfect, as the small rooms with the tables gives you a feeling of privacy, and the service was outstanding. This will be a place we will now call our Sushi Home. We like to find a place and go there as our local, and the last place changed owners, hence the food wasn't the same. Genji has everything someone would want in a Sushi Restaurant, generous portions, fresh food, ambience, and a friendly face serving you with a smile. Does life get an better?

Amazing. Really great service and the atmosphere was very nice. The sushi was a bit pricey but very worth it. I had the shrimp dumpling soup, valentine roll and the go train roll. We also had the bulgogi, and unless you really like it supremely hot, don't get the spicy version. Very yummy, but next time I'm definitely going for the regular one. :D

Going again tomorrow (one week later lol- that's how good it is, and I live an hour away)

Good food!. I just recently moved to an office by Keele and Steeles and was looking for a good Japanese restaurant to go to for lunch. Genji was the closest and had great reviews. We stopped by for lunch and were seated right away. They have a whole page of lunch specials which is great. It's a little more expensive than our old Japanese joint but the food is definitely better.

The miso soup was very good. The salad we had was fresh but I wasn't a big fan of the dressing. It had a citrus flavour which isn't my cup of tea. I had the chicken teriyaki and my friend had the chicken katsu. Both very good! The sauces were delicious. They also came with pre-peeled orange slices which were cut into bite sized pieces, rice and this delicious noodle side.

All in all we had a great lunch. Service was quick and we were in and out in 40 minutes.

Beautiful food. Everything here is presented and prepared well. Love the beef tataki, and best of all it's reasonably priced. York U students: don't you dare get "sushi" on campus when you could walk down to this place!

Best Miso Soup in T.O.. I must say that Genji Sushi is a refreshing change of pace from the usual AYCE sushi joint. They put care into each roll and every dish. Yesterday was my second time dining and I was just as impressed and stuffed as the first time!!
We started our meal with the usual - Miso Soup and an Avocado salad - both were amazing! The miso is hot and salty, they definitely do not skimp on the miso.. It's so tastey and the tofu, green onion and seaweed are a delightful touch. The avocado salad is a really good size (which makes sense since you pay by the dish not AYCE). Almost a full avocado and one of the best dressings in Vaughan. It's vinegar-y yet a little sweet, very, VERY good!
This time we ordered the Spicy Tuna rolls and Salmon & Avocado rolls. The amount of spice in the tuna roll was well balanced with the fish, rice and seaweed. This came as an extreme, yet welcomed, change from the Spicy Tuna roll from Sushi Song in Maple which was so spicy we actually coughed and teared up (obviously too much spice for such a delicate fish). Genji Sushi uses very fresh fish and their care in putting together the rolls is obvious. Nothing messy or quickly done here!.
The salmon in the other roll was fatty and delicious and the avocado was perfectly ripe - not a spot of brown in sight :) A great roll for anyone sushi lover and a must try!
Next we followed up with the combination Dinner F - 3 3 pieces of shrimp tempura and 3 pieces of veggie tempura with chicken terriyaki and 2 dynamite rolls (4 pieces each). First of this was a great portion for two people -plenty for both of us to eat and share. The tempura was amazing!! Crispy and piping hot. My only complaint, very minor, is that they did not de-vein the shrimp before frying them but that didn't affect the meal in the least it was merely unusual. The rolls were spectacular!! Tight, with the perfect portion of rice. They were drizzled with a sweet terriyaki glazethat accented the shrimp. Lastly, the chicken terriyaki -again, great dish! White breast meat, on a bed of veggies and sprouts in a sweet and savory glaze. To die for! We finished another amazing mealat Genji Sushi with a scoop of green tea ice cream, sweet and creamy perfection (and a generous scoop at that!)You will not regret a meal here. There are always always a variety of guest. From couples to families to corporate types. I think that's a good indicator of quality of food and service. The decor is verysweet, like little Japanese huts - super kawaii!! The servers are very polite and informative as well as accommodating for rolls and dishes. This is a hidden gem!!
Also try their Chef's rolls, specifically the Black Dragon and Spicy Tuna Crisp. They are huge, delicious and works of art!

Haven't had a nice japanese for a very long time... Thanks for the great meal, Genji Sushi

I went to Genji Sushi for dinner one night. It's a small restaurant located in North York hidden along Steeles Ave. West. I really enjoy their crab salad and bimbimbap. The crab salad is light and refreshing. Great way to start of the meal. Next the bimbimbap, a common dish found in Korean cuisine. If you don't know what it is it's basically warm white rice topped with sauteed and seasoned vegetables, some sort of meat normally beef, a raw or fried egg and chili pepper paste served in an extremely hot stone bowl. It's really delicious and very filling. The remaining dishes were spicy tuna crunch roll, spider roll and some sashimi. Nothing spectacular considering it was a sushi place but not that bad either. Think the only thing I would recommend from these dishes woul
