Review 168 Sushi Buffet - Vaughan

LaChine
We came in on a Monday evening (Family Day) and it was super duper packed to the brim with people waiting for their number to be called in the lobby. The wait wasn’t too bad, approximately 20 min or a little more like they told me when I called on the phone to check if they were taking walk-ins. Their venue was huge and seated at least 100 people. However, they should hire or upgrade their cleaning management. The tables were still sticky (despite being wiped down) and wobbly, their booths had food stains, their self-serve appetizer area was full of sticky tongs that left your hands feeling yucky and the dessert fridge looked like it got picked up from the dump and reused. Note: make sure to give the iPad a good wipe of the screen with a damp tissue or anything you got that can clean! The food was good though and the presentation of the plates had nothing for me to complain about. The servers were as nice as they can be despite having to run around like maniacs to serve all those tables! Overall: Food: 6 out of 10 Staff: 6 out of 10 Décor/Atmosphere: 3 out of 10

Great food, but you can tell they're overbooked and staff are overworked. The food takes upwards of 20 minutes to arrive, which isn't shocking because of the amount of people present at the restaurant. The staff are friendly, but they are scrambling just to fulfil everyone's order. At one point in time I saw some customers get angry with the servers, and I felt bad for the staff. They're definitely accepting too many reservations than what their staff can handle. It's a great place, but hopefully management will hire more people to meet demands.

This place is one of the best Good customer service and nice staff. There is a decent salad bar, and soups, and ice cream... Not the best selection of sweets and desserts! 😕 But, Price is reasonable and quality of the food is good. The only issue is that they do not take reservations so get ready to wait for an hour!

First time to be there it was very busy and no one tell me to register my name after 10 minutes wating. Then in the table no hi or welcome or if you like drink but we figured out the salad section and we helped our self. The tablets was low battery and we stayed without one until we asked .the food takes long time to come .the food not tasty and the staff not friendly no customer service at all. cleaning need attention and make sure to wipes the I pad before handed out .food is not worth the price &40.00 . Sorry it's bad experience ever 😠

Fresh sushi with a great service. The quality was unquestionable and was great. Ordering process was easy with an iPad and it was on the table very fast. Recommend all you can eat sushi place in the area.
Hyeyoung Park (Hailey)
I like their small salad bar cuz don’t need to place order whenever need more seaweed. Sushi and sashimi are as good as other AYCE, and meeting a robot waiter was fun experience:)
Oksana Rotman
Not a good experience. Food is not worth the price of $37. Sushi rolls were falling apart and didn’t taste good. Salmon didn’t taste fresh. Green tea was extra and they don’t even mention it. Got a coke and discovered a whole receipt floating in our drink, nothing was done about this… just a simple “sorry”. Lol don’t come here, it’s a waste of money.
Fernando Molina
Food was delicious but service was horrible I requested on the tablet and in person for a drink but never got a drink asked and requested 3 times and never got it. Not going to the location again. They don't pay attention to the customers. Mind as well have the robots working instead of the waiters.

I had a very poor experience at your Vaughan location. We went there for father's day, with my wife and kids. The service was extremely slow. For four people, we got an average of one serving every 5 to 10 minutes. Our 'first' of items took over 30 minutes to receive the dishes. We were all hungry constantly waiting for food. Splitting one plate between 4 people every ~10 minutes. Even though our orders had many dishes requested, half of them never made it to our table. We kept asking the servers the whereabouts of our food, but that solved nothing. We spent over an hour there, and left hungry, and felt taken advantage of. Do you purposely delay giving food there so you leave to save money?

Checked this place out after hearing all about it from friends. Service was top notch. The iPad ordering system was clever and convenient. However, the good fell short of expectations. Shrimp tempura was a little too greasy....the tenderloin had some dry tough pieces. The sushi, sashimi, dragon rolls were great, in contrast with everything else that felt like food court fare.

Nice food nice people fast service and im happy i was full and be back again..Love to eat esp fresh salmon & beef spareribbs Holy mackerel
Len Moscovitch
Really good sushi and ate way too much, I recommend the regular salmon sushi and the green Dragon roll.

My boyfriend, myself, and our 1 year old son go to 168 on a very regular basis. It is our favourite restaurant. We absolutely love the food, the wait staff have always been very friendly, the wait to get in is never long unless it is dinner time on a Saturday. We come here nearly once a week, we often bring new friends who absolutely love it. I recommend it to nearly everyone i talk to.
Arlene Resngit Pagsolingan
Service and food was ok. I just don't understand though that their 168 sushi was a terrible....rice overcooked. It was overall too heavy and too rich. I was expecting it to be great since it carries the name. But overall, I like their other food.
Vince Marino
I love salmon and this place has the nicest salmon Roses EVER. everything is amazing about this place.
Vicente Chang
The menu was amazing. I came with a group of 8 people, and we all enjoyed it. We think we will return in the future.
Annie Phan
fresh food and excellent service! wide selection of food.
Ruth Blair
The sushi is fresh (especially the handrolls). Hot dishes are also quite tasty. The soups at the salad bar could be a touch hotter. It wasn't too busy last night, so the service was great. But we have experienced less efficient service before when the restaurant was busy.
Arthur Staroselsky
Well , I never tried the sushi, sinnce the host didn't give me a chance to come in and seat. Can't imaging such a service in a such competitive business.

I enjoy the the food. The server was very good and helpful
Daniela Iantorno
A terrible restaurant. Crappy service and disgusting food. The staff rushed us from the beginning to the end of our meal.
Martin Mühlemann
Awesome place to eat Sushi. Unfortunately they got no Sashimi. Thats really the only lack of.

been to 168 sushi buffet at dufferin and steeles location couple of times. had lunch yesterday around 1pm we are lucky we were seated right away. the place is full and pack by 1:30. my orders were send right away but had to wait for 2 items that had forgotten to serve. we were also served food that we didn't order. overall food is great, service is good. they have soups, salad and dessert bar for starters while waiting for your food. if you go for lunch make sure you go just before 1pm on weekends and make reservations for dinner if you have a big group so to save wait time.
The Girl With Curly Locks
if you want to have Sushi for Asian buffet and this is the perfect place for you guys to try and it is a must recommended because the service is also good and the prices are also reasonable
Jen
The staff were nice enough, salad bar was yummy but the actual sushi was the worst I’ve actually had. Sloppy sushi rolls, rice was sweet and soya sauce was cheap watered down not the real tamari. The place is very pretty but the price was far too expensive $65 for 2.... not at all worth it. There are better quality sushi places in vaughan that’s for sure. The place was clean but I won’t be going back again and I love me some sushi. The miso soup was very tasty and can add your own tofu and seaweed.
Sevinj
Ipad menu is fantastic. Additionally, I want to say decoration is eye catching. Best Staff, Delicious sushi ever ! I love this place and hardly recommend to you.

Came here for a work lunch on a Monday during lunch time. The interior is well decorated, but a bit dim. In addition, each table is equipped with an iPad that allows for easy and efficient ordering. The menu selection was impressive - including sushi rolls, dim sum, fried rices, and soups.

Food started coming to our table at a reasonable time. However, our group had 12 or so people seated across 3 tables in a row and servers were randomly placing the sushi orders between our tables. As a result, the rolls that my table ordered sometimes ended up on the other end of our group's tables and/or we had to keep checking with the servers to confirm whether our rolls had been brought out or not. The servers were courteous about checking our order status for us, but the random placement of the dishes definitely made our dining experience more complicated.

The taste of the food was average, but not the freshest or the most flavourful. Overall, it wouldn't be my go-to for quality AYCE sushi, but it's still a place you can drop by to grab some food to fill you up and need service that can accommodate large groups.

Best sashmi I've had in a long time! Super cool and responsive iPad menu. The salad bar was a cool idea but wish there was a little more variety. Definitely will go back!!

Had my bag stolen just now , be careful and be warned. It's Christmas time can't believe it. I was eating and my bag was beside me and a guy stole it from behind. Who knew.

DO NOT GO!!!!! THEY SERVE SPOILED FOOD!!!

This was one of our "go-to" sushi places for a while. I took my family our for treat on Wednesday Aug 17/16. Fairly early in the dinner, a roll came out that my daughter couldn't identify. There was avocado and something dark-brown/black. We asked the server what it was, she looked at it and wasn't sure. She came back saying that it was an avocado roll and that some of the avocado was bad, so they should eat around it and walked away. We called her back to say that we don't want this on our table (it was gross!). She asked if we wanted to replace it. My daughter had lost her appetite and didn't want to eat any more, as she wasn't comfortable with the food being served. She left the restaurant. i asked twice for the manager, who would not come to the table. Our bill came without a discount or apology. I asked to see the manager again, and he still refused to come by. WILL NEVER GO BACK

We were meeting friends at a different restaurant, but that one happened to be undergoing renovations. Then one of our friends suggested 168 down the road, and of went to give it a try. While about half of the menu is sushi, there are still many other choices, including Chinese, Thai, Korean, and Fusion. This is an all you can eat restaurant, and the Saturday dinner price is $28.95.

We started out with soup and salad, which is self serve, buffet style. However, all the rest of the food (except dessert) is ordered using an iPad at your table. You can order a few items or many items; your choice. As is typical of many AYCE places, they do ask that you only order what you can eat. Between the four of us we ended up ordering about 40 items, since many of the came with only one or two pieces, and we wanted to try a variety of dishes. Lots of activity from the servers as dishes came and empty dishes were removed. No one was hungry at the end, and we got what we wanted. We all finished off with a couple of scoops of ice cream.

Was it the best quality? No, but it was fairly good, considering the service style.
Emily
The food was awesome and so was the service. It was fast, friendly and efficient. The place is clean and they have a unique self-serve bar for soups, salads and desserts. We went for lunch and had a decent amount of options to choose from. They did bring us duplicates of an appetizer and forgot two of our dishes but we reordered it on the second menu. The décor is also very nice. Definitely recommend.

This is the go to place whenever I'm craving sushi.
Great customer service, food comes out quick, sushi is the perfect bite size and the restaurant looks amazing with the dim light.
If it's someone's birthday, all you need to do is tell your waiter/waitress and they'll play a birthday song on the system and bring out a cheesecake with a candle to the birthday person at the end of your dinner--very cute!
Definitely recommend this place to others.
Pia
After hearing most of my friends rave about this place, I decided to give 168 sushi a try.
168 Sushi is like any other AYCE place. You order on an iPad and you receive your food after waiting for a little while. The sushi and Maki rolls here are decent, but anything else is not that tasty. I ordered a few chicken dishes and they tasted like they used a sauce from a jar.
The sushi rolls here are just okay. The iPad system makes everything less messy and the meal was $15 but this place was more of a one time thing.
Maria
The food is great!! Every possible thing on the menu is excellent. The sushi is especially good. This is my favorite sushi place so far. The prices are very high though.

I'm a solid fan of 168 it's my go to place if I'm not feeling hockey sushi. Next best in my eyes, large selection of foods makes this place what it is great! The iPad ordering system is quick and convenient, the rolls are an easy 8/10 and the fusion food like pad Thai is spectacular. The only thing this place is slacking on is the sauces mediocre at best, everyone knows you gotta keep it sauwccy. The atmosphere is a little loud and dark for my liking but overall a good place to sit down and muck.

An OK sushi AYCE. In terms of food quality, everything regarding seafood seems to be okay, but everything else... not so much. For example, Korean kalbi is way overcooked and causes some to be burnt, and some teriyaki dishes lack a lot sauce. 50% of the time, deep fried bananas seem to be made out of something other than banana for some reason. Bit over priced for its quality even considering it is all you can eat.
Pooja Gupta
A good sushi place for a quick bite. I would recommend only the sushi here. I did not like the rice as it was sweet .the kimchi we ordered was stale n tasteless. But one thing I liked here was that if u waste food they charge you, a good way to order the right amount you want to consume.
Sean McKenzie-Mardelli
The sushi quality is meh, but the iPad ordering system eliminates all the confusion and lost orders of a typical AYCE sushi joint so yeah, give it a try. I'm glad I did, just wouldn't go back.
Mitchell Gerskup
This is a fairly typical and pretty good AYCE sushi restaurant, comparable to most other AYCE places. The sashimi was above average, but a lot of the kitchen dishes were good, but underwhelming. The salad bar was a nice touch, and they get points for having mango pudding (which seems to be a rare treat in the GTA). The decor is modern and the restaurant is clean, but it's also very loud. They have a lot of seating, and it seems like it would be a good place to bring large groups. Overall, I was happy with my experience, but probably wouldn't seek them out if they weren't so close.

If my life was a tv show, you wouldn't find me and my friends in a bar or on a couch in a coffee shop. Each episode would start at 168 all you can eat. I used to come here every week with my friends but now it's like every other week. It's always packed so you know the food is fresh. It's not the best sushi I've had. But it's pretty good. The kalbi is nice and a must try and crispy ok chicken, it's more than just okay, trust. Standard sushi rolls so try everything. Service is really quick and they have the iPad ordering system. I'm taking the 0.5 off because even though I've been coming to this location for years, I don't think they remember me. I was hoping to be on first name basis with every server and get invited to each of their weddings but it's like I'm there for the first time, every time. Also when I ate there during the winter storm of 2013, the sushi rice didn't taste right. I thought it was the end but I was pulled back in on my next visit.

My favourite all you can eat sushi for sure !! The iPad menu makes it so easy to order more food and the service is always quick ! The salad bar is great too!

Bad attitude. I was sitting at table 7A during lunch time, the senior server's attitude is so terrible that I promise I will never go to this restaurant any more, they changed the lemon chicken from large to small size somehow, I wonder what happened to this place.....

Vaughan sushi 168 is awful! Save yourselves from the disappointment.
I have been a loyal costumer of Sushi 168 for 2 years and have always ranted about how great the food and service have been. My usual location is in Mississauga. I have never visited the Vaughan location before and will NEVER recommend or step foot in there again.

My family and I went there for lunch for my sister's birthday celebration. We arrived at 12:45 pm. I understand that it is your major peek hour for all you can eat. I understand that the number of guests that I had with me (7 adults and 1 baby) is a bigger than average table and I understand it results to a longer wait. We waited 1 hour and 15 min for a table
with a very impatient baby.... no ones fault but my own- but id still like to stress the point to the whole story.
We were finally seated at 2pm. We quickly ordered our food because my mother is a diabetic and required food quickly. A few of the orders came through but it seemed like we were waiting for awhile for our other items. First, we were very shocked about the quantity of food. On the menu it clearly stated items such as shrimp dumplings had 2 pieces in the basket. We ordered 6 baskets equaling to 12 pieces but we only received 6 pieces. We waited and waited and waited and nothing else came to our table as we watched all the surrounding tables around us get plate after plate. Finally at 2:30pm I got up and spoke to the manager. The manager then came by our table and requested a server to personally take down our order so we could get our food promptly. The server than respectfully informed me that the order was processed but was bought to the wrong table. Within 5 mins, a server came with our order but bought it to the wrong table once again. we ordered more. Again, half of our orders came and half didn't. This happened 5 times in total.
After being disappointed and frustrated with our service, we finally left at 3pm- one of my sisters had to work and my youngest sister's birthday celebration was ruined.
3 people out of the 7 I was with, left the restaurant still feeling hungry. I strongly don't understand how it's possible for people to leave an all you can eat restaurant still feeling hungry.

Best AYCE sushi in the GTA!. I've been to 168 Sushi many times and I'm never disappointed! Their food comes out so quickly, you can barely keep up, they have a huge variety of Japanese, Chinese and Korean food to choose from and the service for an Asian restaurant is quite good. And the food is really good!

Cheated. The charge quantity of your order without letting you know. They do it mainly for more expensive items. They don't mind to bring you rise. They do admit in doing that. Sad...

Had dinner here for the first time. A lot of the food had been made earlier and it showed. Most deep fried foods came to the table totally cold. Maki that had tempura bits in it were all cold, not crunchy and just like a sponge when you bite into it.

The weirdest part to me was when sent back cold shrimp tempura the waitress actually asked us "did you touch this?" Very weird question to ask and makes me think she was just going to serve it to another table! Definitely won't be going back here and may even call Toronto board of health to report this possible food recycling.

Horrible service. We came around 9:30 on Saturday night. The place was half full, and remained that way throughout the meal. At 10:30 while we were still enjoying our meal we were told it was last call for food, with the expectation that we order within 2 minutes. At 10:30 the atmosphere was entirely destroyed by the light being turned on to its full extent. I wouldn't come here again, urban spoon in Woodbridge offers same price and doesn't make you feel unwelcome

Pro: very generous with ginger

Continues To Improve With Age!. I have been going to this restaurant since it first opened; however, I had not been there for a few months due to a health issue. I had the All Day Diner paying the seniors price. It was a bargain. The food was even better than I remembered from previous visits. The menu continues to be upgraded, so, I was able to try some new items. I am not an expert on Ramen; however, that was the best Ramen I have had at an AYCE restaurant. The sweet shrimp that was offered as a special was delicious. I was well taken care of by a nice server named Bonnie.
Naturally, I will be back

Good stuff. Taking into consideration that this is an All You Can Eat Restaurant ,the food, service and ambiance ranked well above expectations and this was by far the best AYCE sushi restaurant I have visited in many years
BlushDaisies
AMAZING. Best sushi I've ever had. Food comes fast and is always fresh. Service is great, a must when in Mississauga!!

Awesome!. Went here for my boyfriend's birthday, it was just the two of us. Went in and it was very crowded but it was only going to be a 45 minute wait, which wasn't too bad. We got seated in a very nice booth which was great. I love that they have ipad's to order the food and the waiters/waitresses are not needed for too much...only to bring you your drinks, take away plates and give you the bill. Also love the price of $25 for all you can eat dinner. The food was all really good!! I especially loved the bacon wrapped asparagus! People were friendly and our plates were taken away quickly. We brought our own wine and the uncorking fee was only $10.

I would totally recommend this!!! There was a wide variety of food and the ambiance was great!

Only thing that I would change about that place is that when names were being called, people couldn't hear if they weren't close to the hostess. So maybe a microphone or handheld buzzer/light up system would work better :)

Good Sushi Service terrible service. So, the power is out to a lot places this weekend. I tried this place as it had power and looked good. I must say the sushi was well made. It was good. Now the bad. The servers and the way they treated me here. Wow, They chagred me an extra $7 Becuse I ordered too much? It's a buffet. I had a few peices of food left on my plate as couldn't eat anymore. The when they did bring the food, I had been there for almost 20 min. I'm only person sitting at my table, and they just dropped it on the table. Never asked me If I'd like some more coffee or anything else to drink. The place was 1/2 half full it should better for service. I'll never go back after this kind of service.

The best All You Can Eat Asian-Buffet in all of Toronto. Their food is very tasty and puts Mandarin to shame. Everything is prepared after you order so its fresh and doesnt taste like its been sitting under a lamp for hours. The service is friendly and they are fast. Prices are very reasonable. You will find yourself wanting to come back to this place for more.

Delicious sushi, fast service and all new tablet menus!! Would recommend to my grandmother!

What a treat!. This place had a relatively short stay on my wishlist because as soon as I said AYCE sushi and showed people a picture of this place their response was "When are we going?". The selection is vast and has something for everyone. The salad/soup/dessert bar is an added treat because it means you can eat while you wait for your sushi (the whole 5 mintues you usually have to wait).

My friend and I went on a Friday night around 6pm. No wait to be seated and we were given ample time to fill out our paper. When we were done it was collected in less than a minute. We ordered many dishes, in fact too many (and they do charge for anything you ask to take home) but it gave us a good sampling.

Everything was well-made, fully-cooked (when applicable) and fresh. The only dish that I regretted ordering was the sweet potato tempura because each piece was very thick and I barely made it through one. On the other hand, I couldn't get enough of the sweet potato tempura sushi.

I'll sum up my experience by saying it'll be hard to beat this place when it comes to all you can eat sushi. I'm sure I'll be back.
J
Quite decent. I've only tried their sushi. Nothing extraordinary, but not too bad either.
Foodiedoodie
GOOOOD FOOOD. Service is AWESOME! They are SOOO QUICK with bringing items out!
I love that the portion size is small so you can try out a lot and not get too full too quickly like other AYCE places. OK chicken and tofu are my have!!

The decor is beautiful!

Salad bar: meh, not the greatest, but really not necessary to eat from it...just order from the menu!
Jimmy Laos
The food was good but the booster seat was unclean and was plagued by the stench of a "wet sock on a hairy man's back that dried" - type vibe. Unfortunately that means we won't be going back despite the good food...sticky floors mean no cleaning done here
Tindiego
Had a mother's day date and food was awesome! they have a big space and tables are appropriately distant with e h other. their service is quick, but u have to keep on ordering so that you wont have to wait for the next one to come. overall a must-try and it's pretty affordable.

Took A Date For Japanese Sushi. I am more a red meat man but my woman wanted this. A hidden star, 168 delivers flavor and service to an upscale area clientele. The standard japanese is small and I made her feel like a queen and I was like a king. tend to prefer the more trendy establishments as it suits my age and true passion in life and therefore went here to treat my queen.

This place is top end, amazing for AYCE. Very good food. I hope it stays this way.
