I've been dining here for over 25 years.  The food has always been fresh, decent and tasty and cheap!  The staff is quite friendly too!  They have a huge parking lot so there's plenty of parking.  I will be coming here for many more years to come.

We thought it would be fun to see, and dine at ’On Lok’ once again.  So off we went, with memories of ‘long ago’ visits in mind, for a weekday lunch late last week.  We arrived just before the restaurant opened its doors at 11 am, and were able to park in their small lot out front.

It had been a very long while since any one of us had dined there - daughter said it was 25 years ago when she was there last - Mom said longer for her - though knowing the name, I had no recall of ever dining there.  When walking in, I heard a couple of - “wow, it looks just as as it did before” comments from the ladies.  And once inside, seated, and looking around at the surroundings, initial observations sure seemed well-confirmed.

Our server was very friendly, and we really appreciated her help re: ordering - always ensuring we had checked out ‘specials’ on the wallboard, against listings in the restaurant’s main, printed menu before deciding on any one dish to order.  And service from kitchen to table was fine - soup first, and other dishes arriving in a quite nicely-timed sequence.

What was ordered:  wonton soup (10 pcs) — sweet & sour boneless pork — pan-fried, shanghai thick noodle — spicy cod fillets — beef fried rice (ordered primarily to be a take home dish).

Portion sizes were very generous, and like we usually do when ordering Chinese fare, had over-ordered.  But heh, this was a sort of long-awaited ’reunion’ of sorts — we had wanted to try several tastes, and sure got them - both there, and at home, with the leftovers, which made a fine dinner the next day.

We enjoyed our recent, and much-belated dining experience at ‘On Lok’.

Went to this establishment last weekend for lunch and overall it was good. The only negative was an understandable misunderstanding due to a language barrier while ordering some Won Ton soup. They offer it with just noodles and broth or with the pork balls and the wrong one was brought to our table. Aside from that the food was great, we ordered the soup, bbq pork, and broccoli with black bean sauce. What stood out for me was the pork, very tender and perfectly flavoured. I would definitely return to try more of their extensive selection.

This is the place to get tons of food and at a reasonable price. I went to this restaurant for 30 years. At least it seemed a long time!!! I highly recommend the BBQ pork wonton noodle in soup, fried beef with rice noodle (no gravy) and the Singapore style curried vermicelli noodle dish. This restaurant is located at a working class region in East Vancouver. Parking can be tough to find during lunch and dinner times. The washrooms need work. It is too grungy and run down. Please improve these facilities.

This is definitely a hole-in-wall kind of place. It's open late till 2AM and it's been here for many many years. The late night specials are cheap at $6.95 per dish, it's smaller portion but still plenty to share. Their dishes don't taste that bad but it's definitely a western style chinese cuisine. So if you are out late near this neighbourhood and "hangry" on a late night give it a try.

Came here around 9:30PM after getting off late from work. Really craving just a simple bowl of wanton noodles. This place is pretty much no frills. Service is mediocre and the decor is both tired and dated.

Food is the key here and the wanton noodles didn't disappoint. Ordered and food came out in less than 10 minutes. Noodles had excellent texture and both the wantons and vegetables were cooked perfectly.

This place delivers on exactly what you'd expect. Simple, quick, Hong Kong style fare at a reasonable price.

Old school decor keeps the price down! Been dining here for over 25 years & have NEVER been disappointed; mediocre service but Great food. Greasy Canadian style chinese food. The Crispy Noodle Chicken Chow Mein is a MUST try, it's not on the menu but they'll know what you're talking about. Incredible WonTon Soup. Love love love this greasy chinese spoon.

Under $10 - Worthwhile Takeout. I had the BBQ pork won ton noodle soup and it was really satisfying - Lots of noodles and dumplings with a generous portion of tender, thick cut fresh BBQ pork. Not too salty. For less than ten bucks you can't go wrong - Take out recommended, general ambience within the place looks... minimal.

Good Food, Service, welllllll, not so sure. I have come here for many years. All I can say is , food good, but watch out when they come to refill your tea that they dont spill it on you while they are at it. Even after all the years I have come to this place, I see the same staff, they still treat you like they have seen you for the first time.

Old-school comfort food. Yummy, good value for price.

Nothing fancy about the place, decor is exactly the same stuff I remember from the restaurants my grandparents took me in Chinatown to when I was teeny.

Wun-tun rice noodle soup is a solid, comforting meal. At $5.10 after tax, it's well worth the price and the memories!

Very good food, good prices & good portions. I've been an avid regular of On Lok since 1997. The food has always been exceptional. Great flavor, authentic, large portions, and very reasonably priced. In fact, they have barely increased the prices since the 90's.

You have to enter this place with a little understanding that it's a basic, unclean, noisy place. Do not expect good service. Remember you're there for the great food, with the great weekly specials they have posted by the entrance.

Another plus with this place, is that they're one of the only Chinese restaurants that are open late (at least 1am) every day and that have good food and are reasonably priced. They have been around for a long time, and it's no wonder.

Good deal. Been going to this place since the 80's but they really need to reno some things, especially the bathrooms.
Also noticed quality has been going down... it would be sad to see this place go down as it used to be the best bargain in town!

Best wonton around. My friend first introduced me to this place about 12yrs ago and at the time I was not impressed with the decor like many others have said but the food is good. They have the best wonton I have found, pork and shrimp in one delicious ball in a tasty broth. I have tried Hon's wonton and it does not compare to the yummy taste of these handmade goodies. They always have some daily specials posted right by the door and none are over $10, usually they are around 5-6. So if u want good food at reasonable price (oh yeah they have a nice big LCD TV to watch Canucks games) and don't mind a decor from the 70's then come on down and enjoy.
