The new fish and pickled cabbage soup for the hotpot is a brilliant addition to their line of handcrafted soups, aka the essence of good Chinese hotpot. The combination of fish and pickled cabbage is another household gourmet name in the Chongqing and Sichuan region. For folks who would love some authentic Chinese taste but couldn't handle too much of the spicy "Mala" soup, the new soup comes with big chunks of fresh wild cod fillets soaked with incredible flavour, making it a heck of a deal.
4/5 no doubt the best hot pot place at downtown area. I would highly recommend this place if you are looking for authentic hot pot (get a spicy soup base, or at least, get give it a try).
Liuyishou Hot Pot Week 2018 took place this past Chinese New Year where the renowned restaurant chain collaborated with Vancouver Gourmet Tours to offer a special celebration hot pot menu for customers. I had attended a media preview of the menu at Liuyishou’s location in Burnaby and had enjoyed it so much that I decided to purchase the deal to experience it again. This time, I decided to visit the Liuyishou location closest to me which is on Robson in Downtown Vancouver.
Open for two years now, “Liuyishou” serves Chongqing style Chinese hot pot with a whole lot of fun. They are especially known for their elevated spicy hot pot experience, and after this post, you will know them for a lot more. This isn’t all you can eat hot pot, you simply order as you go. But I can guarantee all of it is quality, with plenty of value from the self serve cold appetizer and sauce bar, which only costs you $2.50 for unlimited dish refills.
One of the best hotpot places I've been to. The restaurant looks modern, and serves mouth watering hotpots. I like the pickled veggie and fish soup.

NOTE: All food and beverages were complimentary but all opinions are based on my personal experience. As part of a preview for Chopstick Fest, Jacqueline, Dennis, Stephen, Kym, and I were invited to try Liu Yi Shou Hot Pot Restaurant on Robson St., which will be a participiating restaurant for the festival. The festival will run from October 15th – 30th, 2016 and will have a similar concept to Dine Out Vancouver, but feature all Chinese restaurants.
Really good quality and taste. Pretty expensive 50$ per person- we did have some left overs. I recommend the tomato hot pot base and the beef, lamb pork combination.
There was a 12.99 AYCE restaurant here before that was absolute garbage, so by association of where this place is, I was a little skeptic to walk in.
It is completely different. Not even close to how the old restaurant was. I haven't even tried the hot pot yet and I already love it! I'm so relieved that this place is in my neighborhood.
I usually order the yang chow fried rice, which u can choose between Cantonese or szechuan style (szechuan is my favourite) and it is very fairly priced at $8! There is another one with more pork and vegetables for only a buck more, but that one's also pretty unreal.
I'm also very impressed with the manager who is a really stand up guy and demonstrates that he's got what it takes to run a restaurant with integrity and great attention to what his customers say. I've got lots of respect for this guy.
The food and the service get 5 stars each from me. I think Liu Yi Shou is gonna definitely be alright.
Based on dinner with 5 others.
Environment : Good, modern looking decor, non-dated furniture. Interesting cow statue outside of restaurant, which is apparently the store mascot. Clean. Comfortable seating with ample elbow room to move around. Overall feels a bit more trendy than most hotpot places.
Food:
Spicy chicken broth - rich and spicy chicken broth that gives food a wonderful flavour.
Pork bone broth - light tasting broth to bring out the natural taste of the food.
Vegetable dishes were clean and fresh, portion was OK.
Meat dishes seemed fresh and good quality. Platter is a good way to start and see what you like.
Other: sauce station has some funky stuff like msg. Add noodles midway through would be wise.
Price :
We paid about $32 Per head.
Conclusion: Good hotpot place, would revisit.
After a few unsuccessful Japanese restaurants at this particular location on Robson Street, I hope Liu Yi Shou Hot Pot is here to stay! Chongqing Liu Yi Shou is a popular chain in China and the establishment highly focuses on quality. The first Chongqing Liu Yu Shou chain to open in B.C is Thumbs Hot Pot restaurant in Richmond, which I have not visited yet and would not be opposed to now. The restaurant is also a la carte rather than all you can eat.
Came here the other night, with friends who love spicy food, and they love this place. We tried their spicy chicken pot, just medium spicy, and the mushroom soup. I do like that their soup is flavorful and tasted fresh. We orded a bunch of meat, quail egg, pork blood cake, pork kidney, and a bunch of other veggies for our hotpot. I would be happy to eat here again.
