Have heard amazing things about this place and it did not disappoint. Attentive service from start to finish. We were enthusiastically greeted by the sushi chefs when we entered and the vibe was very welcoming. Food was so good we ordered all their popular dishes and loved them!
Visited with a friend for lunch yesterday and the experience was great! Restaurant is cozy with warm staff and the food is superb. The chicken karage was fried perfectly and the special wasabi dip they gave on the side was really tasty. I also tried the red roll with some nigiri sushi and they were both impressive. Washroom was clean and well organized. I'll certainly come back when I'm in the neighbourhood again.
Truly underrated gem of a restaurant! The food and service are both impeccable. Lunch boxes are very affordable and delicious. Portion sizes are generous and food tastes fresh. They also have the best seared salmon don in town!
This restaurant is now called Sushi High. They've improved a lot in recent months and it shows. They've renovated their interior and the food's gone up a few levels. The new menu is fantastic and I highly recommend the Mega Roll and Yummy Yummy Roll the most. If you're into nigiri their Aburi Nigiri Selection is remarkable and allows you to try a variety of delicious fish.
Always wanted to try this place. The outside looks dark...but the food is soooo good! I ordered salmon don, spicy tuna roll, Ebi sunomono. All were very fresh and tasty. Hard to find good sunomono...and this place does it right! I’ll be back! I asked for lots of ginger...and they gave me lots!
Sushiholic is conveniently located close to Rupert Station and has a great selection of original special rolls. All the rolls taste good but I especially recommend the Dragon Roll and Fire Dragon Roll. I've gotten party trays from here too for events and it's always been great. Service is constantly efficient and friendly. Highly recommend!
Whether it's takeout or dine in, we always experience good service from here. The rolls are creative and prices are quite decent. My wife and I love their seared salmon sushi, awesome roll, and beef karaage.
We've been several times to Susholic over the years. We've recommended it to our friends. The food has always been good and the service sharp. But recently something has happened here. My favorites do not look the same anymore. For example, the Sockeye salmon roll used to actually be completely topped with a layer of sockeye and avocado. Now it has the thinnest possible layer of sockeye on about half of the roll.
Another favorite, the Holic Sashimi Tower, used to have an obvious layer of salmon, an obvious layer of tuna and tomago. It was always topped with a pretty dark red roe.
Now, you have to literally fish for the fish and there is no roe.
I haven't seen our usual server in a while. I'm wondering, has the restaurant been sold or taken on new management?
You get one more chance Sushiholi, then we're moving on if you don't improve back to your usual 4.5 star standards.
○decent service
○good food/ I think they improved over the years/ alot of unique dishes on menu/ majority quite tasty
○good price for quality and quantity/ go with big groups to try more variety
○if I had to try 1 dish: forgot what it's called but it's their newer dish with flame in the center
○would i go back? Yes
My usual go to place with my friends. Its near my house and affordable too. Their food comes out fast and its always delicious. Servers are frienly as well. Overall great place
Fantastic high quality sushi! The volcano roll and awesome roll are my favourites and they taste delicious. The chicken katsu is also really good if you're craving hot food. The prices are on the affordable side too. This is by far the best sushi restaurant in the area in terms of taste, quality, and price.
Pretty delicious. H is on a no carb diet (it’s working), so for dinner, we opted for some low carb options at Sushiholic. Actual sushi was out of the question for him, so we ordered some tofu and salmon sashimi. Raw fish craving satisfied. Their food was fresh and delicious, and the restaurant is always packed during dinner time.
Love the spicy chirashi don. Very "Korean" style. I think they use gochujang sauce. and the assortment of seafood is different from regular chirashi. Rolls are good too, but pricey.
Earlier this week, I revisited Sushiholic because I was craving Japanese food, and I was a little tired of getting take-out from Kita. Although they don't take reservations for groups of less than four, we were seated fairly quickly. If you don't want to take a chance and don't feel like waiting, get take-out...they do lots of business that way too.
I always start with a Tako Sunomono, and they do a great job here. There is plenty of tako and the shredded carrots marry well with the vermicelli. The tangy dressing is refreshing and a great palate cleanser.
Their Salmon Sashimi is also a decent size, and the fish it cut perfectly. It's not too thick and is served nice and cold, just the way it should be.
Since it was a rather cool night, we opted for a Tempura Udon to warm our bellies. This was excellent, the noodles had a nice bite to it, and was served piping hot. I added some of the 7-spice powder or shichimi togarashi for a bit of extra heat. The broth was flavourful and not oily or full of MSG. I would have like a bit more veggies but that's probably a personal preference and not really a complaint.
The Tempura was lightly battered and deep fried to a golden crisp. The veggies were tasty, and super crunchy. There could have been another prawn, but what was served was delicious.
For more sushi, I had to have my Ikura. This was plentiful and I loved how it overflowed out of the nigiri. The Uni was fresh as well and creamy too. The Unagi is always a favourite, a bit sweet with a hint of umami from the sauce.
And to round out dinner, we got their Prawn Gyoza, and this never disappoints. The skin has a nice crunch, and I really do love the whole prawn, complete with tails.
I would say that the Sunomono is a must do, as well as the Prawn Gyoza. They have a huge selection of rolls too, but I always find that the more fanciful the rolls are, the further it moves away from "tradition". I can eat a dynamite roll but something like their Awesome Roll sort of freaks me out!
SushiHolic. With two locations (their other location is on Denman) and a pretty high rating, they seem to be quite popular. We attempted to get into Shima-Ya but we weren’t willing to want over an hour for a spot (on a Thursday evening, really people?!?) so we decided to drive elsewhere and settled for SushiHolic. From what I’ve heard, it’s run by Koreans, so bear that in mind. The outside is pretty non-descript but once you walk in, it’s a little more cozy, with the sushi chefs greeting you with hello’s. The layout is tight, compact and splits into what feels like two separate areas. We were seated into a corner booth, which felt cramped even though there were only three of us.
I can't tell you enough how much I love sushiholic. I travel so far and by bus just to satisfy my craving here. It's quite crowded here but the place is really cram. Good service, good food! Thanks team and Sushiholic keep it up!!
Wow, glad someone told me about this place!. Amazing sushi! Amazing service!
This place is small, get there before 11:45 am or you'll be waiting in a long line.
Try it, you will not be dissapointed.
Waiting a while for Pickup. Red Roll (chopped scallop with mayo, cucumber, spicy tuna, crispy bits on top) $8.95/8pcs 4/5 - There was more tuna than I expected. The tuna was "shredded" instead of pieces. I was debating between this vs the awesome roll. I picked this because the awesome roll was salmon+yam fries on top of a california roll. I also took into consideration that it might sit a while before I have time to get to this.
Las Vegas Roll (deep fried roll with asparagus, spicy salmon, cream cheese, crab meat, tobiko on top) $11.95/8 pcs 4.5/5 - There was quite a bit of crab meat on top with colourful tobiko. Too bad they were not real crab meat. Right amount of rice and it still tasted crunchy an hour later. I hope the salmon wasn't fully cooked but it would be hard for a deep fried roll. Having a sauce on the dried salmon might able to solve the problem.
This place is owned by Koreans. There were a couple parties waiting for their takeouts when I was there. I guess you have to give them a bit more time than what they stated. It might be a problem if you are in a rush.
A yuppie sushi vibe. I'm on a quest to improve my knowledge of Asian food, and one thing I need to get a better feel for is Japanese joints. So I was happy to be hungry while passing by Sushiholic on my bicycle. I've been by here bunches of times while breezing down Broadway in the car, but never slowed down until now. It's got a clean, modernistic decor inside, no cliched items such as silkscreens of Mount Fuji. The post-lunch crowd when I popped in was mostly Asian and Anglo yuppies, one of whom was braying out a tale of how he paid $150 in Japan to eat fugu, and it's like so deadly, dude, and isn't he fearless for doing that? I was glad that Sushiholic's service is quick so I didn't have to listen to that annoying guy too long.
I didn't have fugu -- they don't do that at sushi spots in East Van. When I'm at a place that's new to me, I usually order whatever the restaurant names after itself. In this case, it was the Sushiholic roll. Battered shrimp, spicy tuna (not enough of it for me to taste), crab salad (flavour too mild to stand up to the soy/wasabi/ginger) avocado and diced zucchini. It was fresh, well-constructed, but underwhelming. The staff pushes Sushiholic's "Awesome Roll" which has fried shredded yams on top. I would have that if I came back to sit down, but I figured the yams would wilt while riding home as takeaway in my backpack.
I also ordered a bowl of beef donburi. This might make me sound stupid, but I've never eaten that, and I wanted to see what donburi was all about. I'd say it's a Japanese version of beef chow mein over rice instead of noodles, eh? Sushiholic does a creditable version of it, decent amount of tender beef on top, much better after adding soy sauce. But now that I've had it, I can put a tick mark in that part of my Japanese food education, and I don't need to have donburi again.
I was utterly blown away.... I've been there maybe 4 times, and I can absolutely see myself going back for a 5th. The uniquer sushi roll specials may be expensive, but I highly recommend it to anyone who likes a North American twist on Japanese culture. I can see why a lot of people wouldn't like this place especially if you're looking for the same-old same-old from every other Japanese restaurant. If you want to step out of the box and try some bizarre (but delicious) sushi combinations, then sushiHOLIC is the way to go. My favorite roll so far has to be the Mango Ebi Roll and the Volcano Roll. Delicious.
This was a great find. We were new to the area and wasn't too sure. Food was amazing, service was outstanding. Would come here again in a heartbeat.
Good. Japanese crew by lunch, Korean crew by night. The sashimi (especially the salmon) was delicious and did not have any frozen undertones, though the portion is not Banzai Sushi big (some people may have complaints about that). Also had the Plain Udon, which was a generous portion with a very light soup base that had no hints of MSG and the Awesome roll, which was pretty awesome with fried yam shreds and baked, creamy salmon on top :) Overall, it was great!
Good food, good prices. I've been there several times for lunch with people at work. It is a busy spot but the food is really good. The place is small and very busy but it looks like they are renovating or expanding now. It is a good spot for lunch but get there early.
Super tasty and well priced. The alaska rolls with the dressing on top os very good, the tuna tempura roll was still good even though the tuna was cooked, i was expecting tempura bits to be stuffed inside with tuna sashimi! Surprises surprises i guess. All in all this is a cool spot
Small restaurant, busy place.. Came here with friends after having been on my list of places to go to for a while. There's really not a whole lot of space - for five of us we ended up at the bar. The sushi is pretty fresh, though you do come for the rolls. The Awesome roll is fairly good, though the Sushiholic roll is actually somewhat disappointing by comparison (one would think a roll with their name on it would be grander). Still, it's a place that's pretty good when you want to eat on the relative cheap. This is a Korean-run restaurant and has very distinct touches (like the spicy sashimi using a sweeter sauce and having vegetables inside). This doesn't detract from the quality, however. I will return.
Small tight place. youll be waiting awhile during the busy hours but it is worth the wait.
my boyfriends favorite sushi joint in which he loves the awesome roll. is pretty dope :)
if you have time and craving some yummy sushi try it out!
Their ice is really clear. They probably boiled water to make the ice; i appreciate the attention to detail :). The sushi is good too.
It ruined me. I mean i cannot go back to my regular sushi place. The service and food was exceptional. You wonder about the place as you drive up, but once the food hits the table its all great! Worth every penny I will go again as this was my first time. Highly recommend 6 stars out of 5
Yummy and Unique Rolls. Was introduced to this place by a friend and finally decided to come here to try it out ourselves. Four of us came and ordered about 4 rolls - Las Vegas, Volcano, Awesome, and Red Roll. Presentation was good. Two of the rolls that stood out for us were the Las Vegas roll and the Volcano Roll. We liked the deep fried outer-layer of the Las Vegas. At first, one of us who is not a big fan of asparagus thought it might be too overwhelming, but it definitely was a good combination inside this roll without overpowering. Most of us liked the Volcano roll, which came with a generous amount of tuna sashimi in the middle. The sauce/mayo together with the roll made for a perfect combination.
Awesome!. I've driven by Sushiholic many a time, and even before when it was another (now closed) sushi joint. After reading a few reviews online, I decided that trying it would be a pretty good idea. So gathering a small group of four people in total, we stepped into the restaurant, which was decorated very nicely and is actually a little small. The first thing to notice is that this place is Korean run, like many sushi restaurants in the area. They serve all the basic things like rolls, nigiri, teriyaki and what not. However, we were after their special rolls this evening. Now pricing for specialty rolls usually runs up a bit higher, anywhere from five to perhaps fifteen dollars depending. In this case, from eight to thirteen dollars.
The first thing I'll actually say about all the rolls here is that it seems 'they care'. The presentation of the food is simply fantastic, and the quality of ingredients fresh, while the fried items are not hard or overdone. Some of the more memorable rolls included the red roll, sushiholic roll, awesome roll, fire dragon roll, volcano roll and the las vegas roll. With regards to the Volcano roll, it is a fried roll with spicy tuna sashimi in the middle. I've not seen a presentation like this, and the dish was absolutely delicious, save for the fact that one of my friends couldn't handle this (or any other dish) spiciness. The awesome roll was simply awesome, as there were lots of what we think was flakes of yam on the top, really crunchy and added a lot of flavour. The dragon roll by far had the best presentation of the night (refer to the picture) and tasted great. The Las Vegas roll was deep fried, topped with real crab meat, and had different coloured tobiko on the top, which I suppose is why it's called a las Vegas roll.
I'm inclined to say that the special rolls here are on par with my favourite sushi joint, sushi shelter 101 in poco, with some of the rolls actually very similar tasting. It is nice to see another really good sushi joint opening up in the area, and also not too far away from my work place. The service was good and attentive, and the cups of tea were never empty. I'll definitely be back for more!
Note about the parking, since the restaurant is facing Broadway, you can't park on the street during rush hour. I was there just after 6, and managed to find parking. If you can't find parking, if you turn on Renfrew, there are probably spots available.
Awesome sushi, awesome place. Lovely people too. Try their speciality rolls. Bit mOre expensive but worth every penny, Volcano roll will knock your socks off. Excellent vegetarian selection. We're just about to move away from the area, but will make the trip to get our sushi fix here. Really a cut above the rest.
Good prices, excellent rolls (loved the fire dragon roll) but okay service. We made reservations, which was no problem, but had to ask our waitress to bring our menus after waiting at our table and three times for more napkins. Parking is a bit of a pain. Overall, would recommend based on the quality of food, but the service could have been a little better considering there weren't too many other people there.
What an improvement from the other restaurants that have lived in this location. Good food and friendly. Little slow maybe, but they are busy. Only complaint is the styrofoam for takeout, people need to get more on the ball with Eco-friendly packaging.
My Go To Sushi Place.... I live out of town, but my company has an office a block away from Sushiholic.
This is my Go To Sushi place in Vancouver. I was working there for 4 weeks straight and I ate there 2-3 times a week.
The fish was incredibly fresh, and the prices were VERY resonable.
It would be nice if they had a liquor license, Japanese Beer would be the only thing that would make the meal any better.
An unexpected surprise! This restaurant recently opened in our neighborhood, and when we first drove by, we were doubtful. Do not let the plain exterior disuade you! Delicious, affordable yumminess awaits! We ordered the mixed tempura, the red roll, the Boston roll and miso. The total was $26.00! We ordered our food to go and were served tea while we waited. The food was expertly packed, with cling wrap over the soup and between the lid, plus steam vents for the tempura. The result was hot, crisp tempura when we arrived home, with all our miso hot and still in the bowl! Don't pass the sushi joint over!
Go for awesome rolls!. I love this place!. One of my neighbors introduced me the place when it had just opened and I already went a several times for lunch and dinner.
Udon and teriyaki are pretty good, but nothing exciting. My favorite things to order here are the sushi rolls. They have a good variety and they are always fresh and yammy!. Go and try awesome roll, spicy tuna roll, and yellow roll! You'll definitely become a sushiholic!
Service has always been good while I've been there. The guys behind the sushi bars are pretty friendly and professional. **** strongly recommended***
I became a Sushiholic?. Picture tell a thousand words...
Excellent start!. I've had lunch at Sushiholic twice now, within the last week. You'd be hard pressed to tell that they only opened a couple of weeks ago, as the sushi is prepared and served with the professionalism nd presentation associated with higher-end establishments in town.
While the restaurant itself is relatively compact (can probably accommodate four tables of 4-5, two tables of 2, and 3-4 single diners at the sushi counter), it is sized appropriately for the neighbourhood. The decor is tasteful and modern, with dark-stained wood tables/counters and LED lighting in the sushi counter's display cooler.
Sushiholic's menu runs the range from the typical nigiri and maki, to udon and donburi. Sushi combos are available and feature generously-sized nigiri and maki.
Both visits, I ordered the chicken karaage as an appetizer. The large winglets and drumettes (six per order) arrived perfectly crisp on the outside, juicy and tasty on the inside. The size of the individual pieces, and the excellent preparation, make the price of $4.95 a steal.
I have also tried their Red Roll (large maki with chopped scallop inside, spicy tuna on top) as well as their Dynamite Sushi Combo (dynamite roll, and various large nigiri: salmon, tuna, and prawn). Again, the presentation is high-end, and the taste holds up its end of the bargain as well.
The owners and staff are very friendly and attentive; on my first visit, the cook even came out from the kitchen to ask how I liked the chicken karaage.
Sushiholic's arrival raises the bar and sets itself as the new high-quality standard in the neighbourhood (competition being Riz Sushi at Broadway and Renfrew, and Bentei Sushi at Grandview Hwy and Renfrew). I intend to go back as often as my schedule permits, to try the rest of the menu.
I see the LIGHT!!. Didnt know what to expect as I suddenly made a right turn into this place. I dont live in the neighborhood but while driving I was craving for sushi. Usually I munch on sushi at the regular joints I know in Vancouver but maybe it was a the catchy name or the big sign that caught my eye. Anyways, the first thing I noticed when I walked in was the lighted sushi case. First time I saw a case with light, which come to think of it is a good sign. You can see how fresh and clean the fish is. And boy was it fresh, and TASTY! Had the sashimi and it was just the way I like it fresh and cold. Overall the place was clean and service was very good. I would definitely drop by here again if I am ever down that way.
SO good. Great place- we had the tamago, Kappa, Cali and Chicken Yakisoba and would definitely do it again. Rice is just the right texture and everything is FRESH.
Will be back.
Open Now!. Really nice place! Staff were friendly and attentive. Food arrived very quickly after ordering. We got a complementary salad with sesame dressing before our meal. Had the edamame and gyoza as appetizers. The edamame tasted very fresh, and the gyoza was a bit different than I've had before, but great as well. Tempura udon, california roll, salmon maki and yam tempura were all awesome, and my girlfriend and I left full and happy for just over 30 dollars with tip. Check this place out for sure if you live in the neighborhood!
, we ended up going to Sushiholic instead since it was the closest place I could think of at the time. To start, I decided to get the appetizer sashimi ($5.95) which came with 3 slices of tuna and 2 slices of salmon. Now I’m a pretty talkative person…but when this little plate of sashimi came to the table, I was speechless because I haven’t seen sashimi glisten this much in a long long time. Even Grayson was surprised as to how fresh the fish looked! I ended up offering a piece to him but he declined because he said that I need my protein. Originally I was going to get two maki rol
This has been on my list of restaurants to try every since it opened a year ago. I pass by it everyday on my way to work. And it’s invitational banner to try their “awesome roll” has caught my eye on occasion. So this morning I pulled on something cozy and ventured out close to home. As is the case for most places around 12pm, the few parking stalls to the side were taken and the street out front was packed. We were lucky enough to pull in as someone was pulling out. So were a step away from the door. Prefect for rain without an umbrella. We were surprised by the crowds inside. Despite its awkward location, away from businesses, on a block not known for restaurants, and being the neighbour to a rotation of businesses opening and closing. The space was small, so felt more cramp than it ought to be. The restaurant felt like a home. The way the space was separated and seating was done across a few rooms. Additional seating was up the ramp and around the back. This wasn’t obvious until h
I still enjoyed the food. But it was not the best experience I had at Sushiholic.
Now for their famous Awesome Roll ($7.95) which is pretty much a California roll (avocado, cucumber and crab meat) topped with baked salmon, masago, and incredibly thin yam fries on top.

+3.5
It was a great roll that combined a good crunch and delicious sauce on the bottom.
Same as last time, we ordered the Sushiholic Party Tray to share. We enjoy ordering this tray as it gives us a nice variety of rolls that we enjoy eating.
I pass by Sushiholic quite often and at first I didn't have high expectations for Sushiholic because they are in a location where there has been several failed restaurants. They did have a lot of reviews from anonymous users on Urbanspoon and some other website, good reviews too. So, I went to see if it lived up to their reviews. The exterior is quite an eye sore and looks quite ghetto. When you enter through the door, it look every clean and modern inside. Nothing like the outside at all. The Fire Dragon Roll ($9.95) looks super cool since they make it look somewhat like a "fire dragon". The sushi was composed of spicy tuna, prawns and cucumber with mayo and spicy sauce. This was really really delicious! The Spider Roll ($7.95) is similar to the other spider rolls you find. It has soft-shell crab inside. It was still delicious and the sauce in the shape of a spider web is a nice touch. Volcano Roll ($11.95) is a sushi with asparagus and shrimp. It is then deep fried and chopped up. Ha
I have driven by this place everyday to and from work ever since they opened back in December 2010. For some reason, I never actually tried it. Probably because I tend to get Japanese takeout, at the Sushi Garden or Kita right by home or a nicer place like Miku in downtown. This month, my sister and nephew are in town, and he was craving udon. He was quite specific, not ramen, udon. And not the stirfry kind, the soup kind. Not wanting to venture all the way to Aki , we decided to check out Sushiholic, after giving their website and menu a thorough lookover. This was the first item to arrive and it made me so happy! The Pork Gyoza was deep fried to a golden brown. The skin was nice and crispy and the filling was plentiful. And since there were five of us, this was perfect! The dipping sauce is your basic vinegar and soy blend but you can add a bit of punch to it with the shichimi togarashi (seven spice powder). Next up was the Tako Sunomono , and this was a rather large bowl. Not lik
A couple nights ago I had dinner Sushiholic Japanese Restaurant , a place my friend wanted me to check out for a while. This sushi joint specializes none other than sushi rolls. There was quite a selection. We ordered 3 special rolls, one of them was the Fire Dragon Roll . This was a deep fried prawn roll, topped with lots of spicy tuna. This was my favorite sushi roll of the night. The second special roll was the Volcano Roll. This crazy looking roll was a deep fried roll with shrimp, and cream cheese. To my surprise, there was also a pile of spicy tuna in the middle of the plate. This was a hit for my friend but a miss for me. Cream cheese in sushi rolls is just not my thing and the pieces were a bit too greasy from the deep frying. The last special roll we got was the Awesome Roll . This was indeed quite awesome. It was a california roll topped with baked salmon and yam fries. It said yam fries on the menu, but they were more like yam strings. The roll was delicious, and t
The restaurant is fairly small, but the decor looks good and the prices are fair. They do indulge in the “fancy maki” thing, but I don’t really mind that. Take the Dragon Roll shown above as an example. The presentation is quite nice, don’t you think? That’s prawn tempura, mayo, cucumber, avocado, crispy bits, and unagi (eel). There’s also a Fire Dragon Roll that replaces the unagi with spicy tuna for the same price.
