Review Al-watan Tandoori - Vancouver

It was great. The thaali although had NOT the things on it which were listed outside i.e. nehari, haleem , tandoori tikka etc. But it was plentiful. AMAZING Naans and they upped the price a dollar as well. All in all good and a great meal for a tenner. We will definitely be back.

I really liked the whole experience about eating in this restaurant. It is a very warm and cozy atmosphere, the owner and the waiter are very welcoming, and are always walking around to see if you need something. The food was very very good and the price was the best part. If you want good food at affordable prices, this is the place to go. I would definitely be back again.

Quite simply the BEST Pakistani and one of my favorite restaurants altogether in Vancouver! Looks can be deceiving, make no mistake, the food will blow you away. I've been going there for years and it's STILL the best food ever. It's even quite affordable... Edit: Oh wow, they redecorated recently, it's very beautiful now and the prices are still very low. I.e. most meat dishes under 10 bucks! Check it out!

Me and my family always order food from here and it is always delicious. Best quality, always made with fresh ingredients. Be sure to try out their lamb biriyani, it is amazing. Get them to add a jalapeño on it and you have one of the best dishes in the world. Al Watan is the best place on Fraser street to grab lunch or dinner.

Sad to see these recent bad reviews of a favorite restaurant of my family for gatherings! I don;t remember ever a bad experience in the past at Al-Watan but maybe though it has been awhile. We will dine today and if experiences are not perfect i will update this review to reflect our experiences!!

The best of heavenly Biriyani you could get in Western world. Sad that they make it only on Fridays and most of the time its sold out. So if anyone wants to try it, I would suggest to get there before 2pm. The setting may not be great, but the QUALITY and quantity you get for the money you pay is too good. They also have daily lunch plates. The cheapest and best you could ever get anywhere. Most of my the friends I introduced this to said the quantity was too much for them, so not sure why I heard someone complain there that the quantity was not enough. All words said and done, you got to try it to know and make your own judgment

I tried their haleem, chicken biryani , and seekh kabab. Their haleem was amazing!! Just what I was looking for... flavor was on point. I have tried haleem from several places around town and this is the best one I’ve found so far and very authentic ! The biryani has good flavor but it was very different then the biryani I’m used to at home. The seekh kabab was a let down. I was hoping for something amazing as this is what I was recommended to try here. Maybe it was an off day?

I love this restaurant. I've had Nihari at other Pakistani restaurants but nothing compares to that of Al Watan. The Biryani and the Seekh Kabobs are also delicious. The Naan is the nicest fluffiest naan in Vancouver. I can only imagine that everything else on their menu is just as delicious.

For those people who have been in Vancouver for all there life this place is a treasure chest. Ever since I was a boy have always been coming here. The best dish I would recommend is the grilled tandoori platter that comes on a hot plate!

Taste of the food is always the same. If you like it then you will keep coming. Service standards are also very friendly. It's a small nice and clean place.

I really love humble restaurants where honest food is served at a reasonable price by nice service. Al Watan is one of them. I've visited it many times, family all-time favorites and it was always good.

An authentic Pakistani restaurant, full of delicious flavours, spices and scents. Enjoy features like the Haleem and the tandoor. You won't be disappointed by this place!

Food was good, fair prices and service was good! My only gripes are that it could have been spicier and that it is an hour bus ride from where I live. If it weren't for the travel time I'd be going regularly!

Decided to check this place out based on the reviews.

Ambiance/Decor: small establishment located on a busy street. The restaurant is decorated with cultural art featured on the walls. In terms of service: not much (no small talk, we asked for recommendations and were told to order anything on the menu) They definitely have a regular customer base as they were busy mingling with them.

Food: decided to try the thali (lunch menu featuring a variety of dishes for a fairly decent price) I figured this was a great option to try a few things. The food came hot and I was very excited until I took a bite. In my opinion, there was nothing too special about the food.

Out of all the items on my plate, the chicken Tikka was my favorite as it was seasoned well and tasted good. The rest of the items (vegetables curry, rice, rice, chicken curry all lacked flavor). I ate the food for the sake of eating because I was hungry.

I also ordered a side of kabob roll which too was lacking flavour.

Having tried lots of chicken biryanis in different parts of India, I thought I’d give it a shot here in Canada, and I definitely did not regret it! The biryani was so good, the spices were on point and the serving size was huge! So hats off to this really cool, cheap, halal Pakistani place.

Had Chicken kababs and Biryani. Reminded of authentic mughlai food. Amazing flavors and great taste. Nice to have a place like this nearby. Love it.

People complain about service and other things. Its all about taste food. Wake up this restaurant is great when you get food to go. I order 2 chicken karai and nan, I had it for 2 days and truly enjoyed it, The value is amazing. Today a big mac combo will cost you $9. I dine a lot in Vancouver and all around the world. Its not about service and portion. Its about how taste the food is. To the owner keep up the good work people that know what food is all about will come back to you. People that are picky and complain about portion will stay away. TASTE FOOD COMES IN SMALLER PORTION BECAUSE IT IS CREATED FOR PEOPLE TO ENJOY! ITS NOT QUANTITY BUT QUALITY. Thank you for delicious food.

Had the Chicken Karahi, Nehari, Rice, Plain Naan and Garlic Nann with my boyfriend for dinner last night. Everyone that worked there was so sweet and kind, food came out fast and was delicious. Chicken Karahi was the highlight for sure.

Al-Watan Tandoori Halal Restaurant (巴基斯坦風味小餐館)
地址:6084 Fraser St., Vancouver, BC
電話:604-324-6378
營業時間:6 days a week 11:30am-9pm (Monday Closed)
泊車:店前路邊免費泊車 / 店後亦可免費泊車
付賬方法:現金、信用卡 ($10元以下加$0.50手續費)
個人推介:Lunch Special on Thali $7.99

Been there this weekend and ordered couple of dishes ... All of them were tasty in particular nehari and lamb Saag.Best part is boneless lamb pieces and not spicy like other
Desi joints

Of course, I cannot go to my favourite Al-Watan without ordering the Biryani.
Along with it, a selection of other dishes and a potato stuffed Naan.

Authentic and delicious!. After visiting Dubai and eating some amazing Pakistani food we've been craving it ever since we've returned to Canada. I found Al Watan Tandoori on Urban Spoon and decided to try it out with my husband and 2 friends - we were not disappointed! The food tasted very authentic and similar to what we ate in Dubai. We ordered the Brain Masala, which is what we ordered in Dubai, and it was delicious! This is a Pakistani specialty and although it may sound weird - it is very good!
We also had the Beef Nehari, onion naan, and chicken tikka - all very good! The chicken tikka was some of the best I've ever had. However, I ordered the mango lassi and it wasn't anything special. The kheer for dessert was really good.
I will definitely come back to eat here and have already recommended it to friends! It may look like a hole in the wall - but often I find those are the best restaurants! I'm not there for the decor anyway; it's the authentic taste that matters! And it was all very affordable.

HORRIBLE AND UNSANITARY!!!. WARNING: This place is one of the worst Vancouver has to offer. people working there are rude and sloppy and smell like terrible hygiene. The Chef in the back who is also the owner apparently is always screaming non-stop at the workers. The food was cold and had been re-heated no freshness in it at all. The place is dirty looking and unkempt. There was food stains on the walls and dirt on the carpets and the wall hangings just above the tables. EEWWW. Gross just gross.

Very delicious food

Awful and gouges their customers. Somebody recommended this restaurant to me,so i decided to order Lam curry for take out. When i went there to pick up my food, the lady handed me a
small container tied in a plastic bag,i asked if that was it, she replied yes. But let me tell you, there was only 6 small pieces of meat in the container that it.
I was very angry and called this stupid restaurant and asked if this was a joke,
because there was no naan or rice with it, and i didn't know how to eat it.
I couldn't believe that this pathetic restaurant sells 6 pieces of meat for $10
The place looked terrible and filthy, there are hundreds of places that offer delicious and complete meal for that price. So, do not waste your time and money at this place, you will regret it, and simply not worth the price.

Great hole in the wall restaurant. Great hole- in- the- wall Pakistani food. The nehari - not your typical spicy beef curry - is fantastic. The keema naan, naan stuffed with ground beef and spices, is delicious.

Meh. About a year or more back this was a regular eatery for my partner at the time and I. He was very picky with food and preferred eating halal meals form the subcontinent. I used to enjoy their biryani and kabab wraps initially but either got sick of eating there or their quality really did decline over time. Also, the food is a bit oily.

I have tried and liked thei tandoori dishes. The ambient is bad. I usually take out.

I have this weird habit of riding transit to random places to look for food LOL. Yesterday I was riding along Fraser St and spotted Al Watan from inside the bus! I remembered reading about it on Chowtimes last week, so I hopped off and decided to go in for a peek! They have this killer lunch deal going on 6 days a week, which comes with 6 different dishes, for only $7.99! Signature Dishes Al Watan Tandoori is a small "dive" that serves up Palistani Cusine! Most people come here for their lunch special but they also have a ton of other dishes! Their specialities include: Haleem, Nehari, Paya, and Brain Masala which range from $8.99 to $9.99! Not bad at all! Service 4/5 stars There was only one waiter working the floor, and one cook in the back. After sitting down I was immediately fetched a glass of lemon water and a menu. The waiter was really nice, he even came around to ask me how I was enjoying my meal! The food came very quickly, probably because it was pre cooked. That's

The tandori, while having some hint of spice, was a little on the bland side. The lentil curry and vegetable portions were very tasty and very spicy. Though, the best part has to be the chicken curry; It had a very distinct tomato-like taste to it. Since this place apparently specializes in Tandori chicken ($7.99), we ordered a separate plate of it to share. Again, although having some character, it was a little on the bland side for me.

Ya’ll probably wondering how the cow brains taste like? The closes texture I can compare it to, is a firm tofu. Flavor wise, it barely has a taste but I would say it has a mild pork like taste to it. The spices were so strong you could barely taste anything else, except a mixture of strong exotic spices. I dig back in for seconds.

A special edition, given it is Halloween... How about some BRAAAAAAINS!!!!

Ben was craving for Indian food. He wanted to try a new place instead of our favourite Kona Tandoori and Saffron. He went all the way to Fraser St. to look for one. We found Al-Watan which serves Pakistani cuisine. Lunch special looks economical. We were there just about noon and the place was pretty quiet. I ordered one of the lunch special which came with tandoori chicken and curry chicken. It was a pretty big serving compared with Kona’s lunch special especially the rice portion. The tandoori chicken was a bit dry though. Nanzaro ordered Butter Chicken for $10. I found that the sauce was slightly tangier than the regular version we got from Indian restaurants. We also ordered extra naan and rice to soak up all the sauces from the butter chicken. Ben ordered Lamb Briyani; also $10. The biryani has lots of vegetables like peppers and tomatoes in it. The lamb pieces were boneless and in bite size. It was a good meal; we had leftover biryani to bring home for Arkensen. Al-Watan accepts
