I'm not a pho connoisseur but the pho here is definitely on the better end of all the places I've tried. Good meat to noodle ratio but mostly, the service is great! The owner/server person is super friendly and humorous, not something I usually get at a pho place.
Eaten here a couple of times, enjoyed it both times, good service and friendly staff. Wouldn't call myself a food expert but the pho I had was tasty and on the table very promptly and that is all I require.
Delicious pho broth! Definitely picked up on some stronger spices like anise. Tasty spring rolls as well. And to get gum when exiting was a nice little treat over the usual candy or mint. Very friendly service. They have a renowned vegan pho that's on my next-time-to-try list.
came here for a bowl of pho while i was in chinatown and not wanting to eat kent's kitchen again... well then... the rating was really high so it's worth trying i guess. went here along hastings and well not the best spot in town but it's where there are food it's where i'll go. So then, came in it was empty on a weekend late afternoon at 3 ish. Got a bowl of pho, no.19 and so... got the pho within minutes away. pretty fast defintely within 10 minutes. and tried it, for some reason i still don't really know if it's a good/best pho ever, but i can defintely tell a a bad one. so then, this one is definitely one of the better ones for me. but at the same time i don't think it'll be the best one. but definitely one of the better ones out there.
overall i would say this is a good pho option if you're in the neighborhood. definitely can give this one a try.
Always a favorite! Clean, cool restaurant. Full sized portions, Delicious phone and crispy wraps. Bonus find of Bubble Tea with pearls. Complimentary WiFi 💗💝💖✌
AWESOME. This place rocks. Michael is a really friendly guy and and and the food is...phenomenal, to say the least!
Best spring rolls I've ever had.
Try #63...delicious!!!
Highly recommended, I want to try everything.
They do take out too.
Surprised never went in sooner.. I lived in Vancouver for 22 years and would occasionally go into the DTES to scour pawn shops/thrifts stores for treasure and would always see this place but never went in. I went back to Van for business and was staying at the Hotel Patricia across the street and figured "Well i'm hungry..might as well give it a try". I went in a about an hour before closing and was met by the owner Michael who was very friendly. I tried the #6 Michael's Favorites which was the Spicy Shrimp and Beef Noodle Bowl ($12.95) and Cafe Sua Da (Cold Viet Coffee) and found both to be made rather well and very tasty. I did repeat the same order 2 days later earlier in the evening around 6 PM when it was a little more busier and found that although the noodle bowl was still good but the soup base was not as hot as it should have been...effectively the the dish was rushed. Now i would definitely go back next time i visit Vancouver but i'd go when it's less busy and maybe call Michael out on the problem next time a dish is not up to stuff especially when the prices are slightly more than usual.
The owner, Michael, excels in customer service. He always greats you with a smile and makes you feel welcomed and at home. The food is delicious and not MSG laden like some other places. You can tell the restaurant is his pride and joy. Although the prices are a tad steeper than other places, it's completely worth it in the quality of the food and the service you get. Highly recommended.
Pho-nomenal (sorry)... I'd be the last person on earth to say I'm a vegan... but... Hanoi Pho's vegan pho is one of the tastiest phos I've ever had the pleasure of eating. The broth is something else. I think it's a daikon soup base. Whatever it is, it's got as much (or more) depth and richness as any meat broth. This is not to say their meat broth isn't any less good. It's fantastic, as are their salad rolls.
The service has always been this one quiet but very nice guy. Seems like a lot of regular customers know him. My wife and I have become regulars of this place as well, having gone at least 5-6 times already. Safe to say it's one of our favourite pho places in town.
Grilled chicken subs are delicious!
Healthy Vancouver Gem!. I'm sure you have heard the saying that you can judge the overall sanitary conditions of a restaurant by the cleanliness of its bathrooms. Well, Hanoi Pho's bathrooms are literally the best-kept ones I have ever been in!
Despite the fact this Vietnamese gem is located in a bit of an iffy area of town, it is impeccable in every way. The owner/manager (who is always there) takes a LOT of pride in his business. It's obvious from the consistency wonderful service, to the cleanliness of the entire shop, to the generous and delicious dishes he serves. I really truly love this restaurant and try to frequent it at least once a month, if not more. I have never been disappointed.
The vegetable pho is a health-conscious vegetable-lover's dream come true. Gone are the days you have to suffer with oily, MSG-laden vegetable alternatives at Vietnamese restaurants. This bowl comes packed to the brim with broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms and carrots and the broth is made from perfectly browned onions -- no fake soup stock here! It also has a few bites of fried tofu and of course, at the bottom a handful of rice noodles. There is also a hot and sour version of this dish, which adds a bit of kick with major lemongrass undertones -- it's like a Thai variation of the original dish.
The springrolls are also fantastic. They are not oily in taste but crisp and light. The salad rolls are perfect.
The prices here are fantastic. Veggie dinner for 2 usually will costs no more than $30 to be completely satisfied.
I'd much rather eat here than spend double the price to eat half the amount at a pretentious hipster bar in nearby Gastown. (Can always go back after for just the drinks!) It always feels nice to support such a hard-working and kind owner too. He really deserves it!
P.S. One thing is that it's really quiet in here. They play a tiny bit of elevator music in the background. But it's not about the atmosphere, it's about the food and the cleanliness for me!
Top quality Viet dining, gracious service. Hanoi Pho is modest resto with some of the best Viet food I've been served, at reasonable prices. I arrived very hungry, so I immediately ordered appetizer #1 -- salad with chicken wrapped in rice paper, with a thick peanut sauce for dipping. I had ordered only one roll, a large serving, and it was so good that I felt like ordering a second.
After looking over the menu, I decided to try the Viet beef stew on egg noodles. The egg noodles were standard Cantonese won ton noodles. The stew, however, was carefully prepared and flavourful. The beef was tender -- and plentiful. The sauce was zesty, and relatively thin, so I ate it like a soup at the end of the meal. The stew was served with beansprouts and basil on the side.
I had ordered a non-alcoholic pina colada, which was unavailable, so I had the mango juice, served in a tall glass with ice.
My server -- the owner? -- was extremely gracious and helpful. Service was quick, and attentive.
This restaurant may be for the adventurous, due to its location. On East Hastings, on the northeast edge of Chinatown, suburbanites may be intimidated by the rough condition of the surrounding buildings and homeless shelters down the street. The area is well lit and there are lots of people on the street, so big city dwellers will have seen conditions like this before. I would not hesitate to bring my wife to this resto, notwithstanding that she grew up as a child nearby. The best way to travel to this restaurant is probably the 135 bus, with a stop neaby the resto.
Inside the restaurant, the interiors are neat and clean. Handwritten signs betray the neighbourhood outside, yet the wording is so earnest that the circumstances are understandable. Light jazz plays on the stereo.
I'll remember Hanoi Pho as a destination on my return visits to Vancouver.
Diamond in the rough. Went here tonight as I was craving a nice bowl of noodle soup. Being that I am mostly vegetarian I did a quick google search and this place popped up. I am glad it did, it really is a diamond in the rough. Super clean inside with a nice fresh decor and friendly service. The food was great, had an amazing salad roll and a great veggie noodle soup. I was impressed with how fresh the ingredients were and how light the broth was. My friends had their wonton soup and a seafood/pork soup that they enjoyed. I will be back!
Normally, Vancouver's Downtown Eastside isn't my first choice for grabbing some grub. That's pretty obvious. Then, one day, I heard about Hanoi Phở and their excellent curried soup. Always on the lookout for this variant on Vietnamese soup, I made a point to scope it out on the way downtown. My first reaction was, "Wow. That's one crappy location". Two blocks from Main & Hastings, next to a methadone clinic. Yikes. Upon further investigation here , here , here and here , it became pretty clear that this is one of Vancouver's better Vietnamese restaurants. Despite it's location and underwhelming signage, Hanoi Phở has one of the cleanest interiors I've come across in a Vietnamese venue. If your looking for immaculate restrooms, this place is for you! Just ask for the key at the front counter. This is one impressive little joint. A burbling waterfall off to one side. All sorts of knick-knacks here and there. Soothing Andean panpipes on the stereo. Highspeed wi-fi is on offer as well
We were feeling a bit iffy about going in because the windows had bars and were tinted. The interior, however, seemed to be quite clean and spacious. They have signs promoting free wireless internet….woot! Here’s a picture of the view from within. One thi
I had been wanting to try pho (phở) for a long while now (I've attended some of John Chow 's DotCom Pho events but never actually had the Vietnamese soup itself ). When I was little, I used to ask my Mom to add very thin slivers of beef (fully cooked) to
Love the Vietnamese vibe here.
If you're looking for the best PHO in town, look no further.
The noodles are always perfectly cooked and the toppings are fresh.
The service is friendly and efficient.
Will definitely return !!!
Had their grilled chicken pho it was delicious!! Not only the food but the gentleman and his wife(?) who run the place are so friendly and welcoming!! Definitely recommend you to come in and try it out.
Delicious authentic Vietnamese food! Loved it! Service is amazing, the family was so kind. Highly recommend checking this spot out for pho. Best we had in Vancouver!
I love this restaurant! The service is amazing and the food is delicious — my favourite is the vegetarian vermicelli bowl with tofu and peanut sauce. So good!! Also love the tea they serve. A wonderful local business that I highly recommend trying!
I ordered the #53 - $13.99 Deluxe Vietnamese Vermicelli Bowl (Charbroiled Pork, Pork Spring Roll, Grilled Minced Pork Patty). Spring Roll was super tasty, charbroiled pork was almost like a candied beef jerky, and the pork patty was tasty, but a bit underwhelming. Very big portion size, and had enough meat. Great service, super friendly. Will come again.
Clean, family run, tasty food. Not exactly cheap.. but quality and service are good. TIP ~> If you order the Lemon Grass Chicken, ask them to put an egg on top... it’s worth it.
This is a great little mom and pop shop let me tell you. I love finding hidden gems like this. I’ve just recently moved into the Strathcona neighbourhood in the downtown Eastside and I’m looking for my favourite food spots.
A really really nice man and his wife run this place very well.
My amazing girlfriend was the one that turned me onto this place.
When you call for your pick up order tomorrow make sure to tell him that a very pretty lady with the little girl told you to come and get a bowl of soup.
Trust me he will make you a very nice soup.
I honestly am not a fan of takeout food. These dining restrictions are affecting me as well not just our businesses that need our help. My point is that I really enjoyed this takeout food.
This is an update to my review for July 26, 2021
These are three of the best drinks we’ve ever had in the city.
Lychee, Mango and Strawberry.
We will come back here just for drinks. The kids went crazy for these…!!!!
A very casual place to chill and a fairly nice place to have a quick meal in a not so nice neighbourhood.
Fresh basil and sprouts with great flavoured noodle soup, including cilantros. Great service too, but they only accept cash or debit though.
Delicious pho, brought my friend here from overseas and she was impressed! The owner was super friendly, and gave us the biggest smile when we walked in too. Overall excellent experience, would recommend it to friends!
This is my favourite Vietnamese place. It’s a bit off the beaten path but the food is really yummy. They also offer a vegetarian pho and many other vegetarian options. The portions are larger and I recommend number 53. It can get quite busy especially when it’s rainy. The food comes at a medium to slow speed. They offer a nice tea with the meal as well.
Pho is delicious and the owners are such nice people. They recognized me when I went back the second time! Cute little restaurant. Great value. I'll definitely be going back.
I really like this restaurant. Owners were very friendly. They recommended the spicy beef and shrimp soup on the special board - best soup I've had in a loooong time. I'll be back!
Amazing service. Food was fast and fantastic. Don't be fooled by the location, this is a hidden gem.
Really great pho! This place is a hidden gem. I ordered the rare beef pho, it came with fresh lime, bean sprouts and 🌱(not exactly sure what the green leaves were maybe basil). The staff was really friendly and incredibly attentive. Next time I’m in the mood for pho, I’m going back here.
I ordered #19, medium rare and well-done beef brisket rice noodle soup. Some of the best pho I've ever had in Vancouver and not a single complaint. Tasty soup broth, fresh ingredients, generous portion size, and reasonable prices. Owners are very down-to-Earth, friendly, and work hard. Will be returning in the future with other friends and family of mine to support this business. Would recommend to people who enjoy noodles and soup and a personable experience.
Amazing food. That shmeat…so juicy and full of flavour. The way they prepare the rice. Incredible. The service is very friendly. Definitely worth regular visits!!!
Amazing restaurant, delicious food and the nicest man running it highly recommend.
