This is for Handi who have now moved to W Broadway. Absolutely delicious Indian. Cannot fault any of the meals we ordered. All fresh and very tasty. Naan was yum and rice was well cooked. Service was attentive and friendly. Prices were standard and definitely well worth it. Make sure you get the vegetable samosa!

We seem to go here a lot! You know what that means. Nice atmosphere, not too noisy and very good food for a reasonable price. It is strongly recommended

A few days ago, a group of us went out for dinner at Handi. We chose the restaurant based on its convenient location - being midway between UBC and all of our homes. My friend had been there before and vouched for it.

When we reached, it was quite empty. We got a very friendly server, and ordered a whole bunch of dishes. I was sharing chicken tikka, chicken korma, kadhai chicken and some naan, rice and dal with my friends; each main dish was good enough to feed two. My favourite was the chicken korma, which came with a thick, creamy, cashew nut based gravy. Although we had asked for medium spicy for both the korma and the kadhai chicken, i found the latter to be quite spicy. Couldn't really enjoy it or taste much beyond the heat. However my friends who don't mind spicy as much, said they liked that more than the korma. Guess it depends on what kind of a preparation you prefer.

My pet peeve with all Indian restaurants in Vancouver, is that they use boneless breast pieces for the curries and tikkas (spicy, grilled chicken). That's really not the best type of meat, especially for tikka, since it doesn't let the flavour permeate inside. Well made tikka can be almost butter soft, and for that (or to get anywhere even a little close to it) you should not be using fibrous pieces like from the breast area.

But I won't hold that against Handi specifically. I'd say their chicken tikka was as good as any other you would get in Vancouver.

At the end, i asked for a slice of mango cheesecake for our friend who was celebrating his birthday. It was not bad, but $7 seems a bit much for the teeny tiny piece they gave us.

In general we had nice and friendly service but towards the end they kind of spoiled that by giving us a single bill (without asking us first), and then refused to split the amount. The guy we spoke to regarding this looked like the owner. He looked quite grumpy as he told us that it was OUR responsibility to have asked for separate checks before he printed it out, and apparently whatever is printed is unchangeable. Definitely did not enjoy that surprise at the end.

We visited this restaurant twice.Having developed a bit of a taste for tandoori food, we ordered tandoori chicken, tandoori fish and naan. It was absolutely delicious. Cooked in a traditional tandoor and spiced perfectly! The portion sizes were huge - we could have shared the fish between two of us. Having loved it so much, we went back for lunch another day and had one of their Tandoori Prawns - cooked in a wood-fired stove outside. This was also really delicious. I would definitely recommend this place and particularly the fish.

I tried , texture , taste , and appeal is great , and when they served up it is actually still hot-warmth ! unlike some of other places I visited the prob the only down side of and were really good. On the recommendation of yelp reviews, I had the burger with the works, and it was great! It's good that it wasn't some gigantic burger that you get at some restaurants

Four of us recently enjoyed a great meal at this restaurant on Dunbar Street. We skipped the Appetizers and ordered the Lamb Kadhai, Lamby Curry and Chicken Masala. Not only was the food tasty but the service was excellent.

The restaurant is cosy and ideal for a family dinner or a special get together.

One of the finest in Vancouver. Handi is one of the finest Indian restaurants in Vancouver. It has the best channa masala and aloo gobi that I’ve ever tasted! A cool touch about the food is the way they serve it - the plates come with candles under them so that the food stays warm. Cool, eh?

As far as the pricing is concerned, the food is also reasonably-priced. This Indian restaurant is a perfect example of how you don’t have to spend a lot of money to eat amazing food (that is served in generous portions btw). Staff was attentive and welcoming. I have brought a couple of my friends here one time, and they also had a good impressed with the quality of service and food. They couldn’t stop eating! Haha. If you are in Vancouver, make sure to stop by and visit, you won’t be disappointed!

Our favourite indian restaurant in vancouver. This place has been on my mind for a while since I go to UBC and it's close by.
So i tried it at last on Tuesday when I heard of their UBC special.

I went with my boyfriend. When you get in, the place is really cozy and intimate. I thought perfect...just a fun date and good meal. We ordered the butter chicken for both of us because I like to eat, just not big portions :) The food was amazing and I loved the way they serve it with the plate hot and still cooking at the bottom. As if "Hey, take your time and enjoy, the food won't get cold." Loved it.

We had a couple of drinks - more than usual since there was a 20% off just because we are UBC students, so we figured it won't hurt the bill as much. Really had a good time as a date and the food was just amazing. The naan and rice were perfect as well. Definitely coming back!

Best chicken methi! Best indian restaurant in Vancouver for me. Let me just start by saying that I would consider Handi Cuisine as the best indian restaurant in Vancouver any day of the week. Why you say?

Vancouver is known to have great Indian restaurants. I've been to a lot of them even outside of Vancouver and none have felt like Handi Cuisine.

This place has everything. From the moment you are in, the service is great. Someone greets you right away (even if the place is busy like it was this last time), they give you a table, drinks and a menu right away.

I was with my brother and sister so I wasn't really in a hurry. Nevertheless, they came with our food pretty quickly and it was spectacular! The sauces were just right, not too liquid, not to spicy and not too greasy like other places I've been to. They have the best chicken methi I've ever tried and to top it all off, the check was more than OK for all three of us.

If you are in Vancouver, this is a must for indian restaurants in my opinion. The location is good and the place is a little small, yes, but perfect for a night out, good food and a few drinks.

Best indian restaurant in vancouver. Honestly, this for me is one the best Indian restaurants in Vancouver that I've ever been to. I'm always traveling through the West Coast for work so whenever I'm in Vancouver I can't resist going back there for a quick dinner.

I went there with my girlfriend last time and the environment is great for a date. Very intimate, great service and the food is just incredible. Because of the Handi (a metal vessel with a candle on the bottom) the food is always warm so you can take your sweet time and enjoy. Very cultural oriented and just amazing. Butten chicken, Chicken Meti and the Garlic Naan was just incredible.

Definitely recommend it!

The first restaurant that taught me the taste of India. About a year ago, I didn't really know much about Indian food even though I visited Vij's a few times. Since Handi restaurant is in just nearby my place, I decided to give a shot. I ordered naan breads and butter chicken, and since then, I swear I've got addicted to the taste of Indian curry. I also introduced this restaurant to my ex-roommate, an Indian guy who came from Mumbai, and he told me that the curry tastes actually better than ones in India. Even though I tried some other Indian restaurants, Handi restaurant is still #1 to me. (Vij's is as good as Handi, but the price was much more expensive!) Now I am a regular customer of Handi restaurant and visit there at least once a week. The server is also friendly that he recognizes my voice whenever I call! (I feel like we have become friends lol)

The best meal we had in Vancouver. I have always loved Indian food, but this is by far the best Indian food I've ever had. I have shared this restaurant with all of my close friends, and even the ones who never previously liked indian food admit that it is delicious. Try the Butter Chicken and Lamb Methi with their Garlic naan and the paneer dishes are delicious too if you don't want chicken. Even though i love spicy foods, and 'hot' isn't too hot for me, I always order the food 'medium' because i want to be able to appreciate the whole range of delicious flavours. The mango lassis are also delicious. I have gone to this restaurant several times, and we order delivery from here about once per week. Try it, you will not be disappointed.

Indian food on Dunbar st. Great and plentiful food, relaxed atmosphere, excellent service I've gone twice,Now the food - YUM. I love Indian food. I love to eat it, I love to cook it, some of my best friends are Indian etc. Everything was delicious - tasty, flavourful, just-spicy-enough, rich, fresh, steaming hot and so filling.
The lamb saag were a highlight - I don't even really like lamb, but this was one of my favourite dishes, ordered on both my visits. I wish I could remember the other dishes we ordered - we went all out, and nothing disappointed.

I will definitely go back.

Good, Honest Indian Standards. When you're absolutely starved, even mediocre food tastes good. That was my experience here: good, honest Indian standards (Eggplant Bharta, Butter Chicken, Chana Masala, naan, etc), served hot and prompt on a take-out deal. I will confess to a bias, though, and that is that my quality standards are high with respect Indian cuisine as a result of Vij's which produces innovative, sparklingly original Indian food every time (and at much higher prices). So when we chose Handi's for a neighbourhood (Dunbar-Southlands) Indian take-out, we had no illusions that we were going have our worlds rocked. Thus, we weren't disappointed. For the most part, everything was fine, though the white basmati rice was a slightly disconcerting brown colour. The naan was good, though a little under-cooked, and the mains were delicious. Handi's would not be that high on my list of Indian places to go to, but for fast take-out, it's pretty good and reasonably priced.

Absolutely fantastic!. From the atmosphere, to the staff and -- of course -- the food, this place shines! Sooo incredibly good. The naan melts in your mouth and the butter chicken is the best in Vancouver. Plan to go next time you're craving authentic, high-quality Indian food. You won't be disappointed!

Talk about hidden gems. My good friend Erica Hargreave and I were just looking for a diner that apparently exists on Dunbar (not Sodas Diner, that's defunct) and we were unable to identify said diner, so we decided to stop at one of the many restaurants on Dunbar between 28th and 29th Avenues (near the Dunbar Theatre). We stopped at a little Indian restaurant called Handi Cuisine of India . Best. Random. Find. Ever. The name "Handi" refers to the traditional, thick-bottomed clay pot with a narrow top that allows for lengthy simmering, which produces rich, deeply spiced flavours. For three generations our families have represented East Indian Cuisine in the finest traditional way. We are proud to share our journey with you at anyone of our select locations. Handi features award wining fine traditional East Indian Cuisine with all your favourite dishes such as sizzling Tandoori, savoury curries, house signature dishes, vegetarian specialties, mouth watering deserts and a perfectly comple
