Hello friends! Kook Korean BBQ is a restaurant located on 1st Ave that opened earlier this year. There aren’t many Korean restaurants in this area so I was excited to try this one out. This Korean restaurant is not like any other we’ve been to before because it was modern and had an ambiance that reminded us of a bar.
Back in early March, before the whole coronapocalypse shut down all of the dine-in eating at restaurants, we dropped by Kook Korean BBQ on East 1st. It wasn’t very surprising that the restaurant was pretty quiet when we visited… but that suited us perfectly. We decided to order their Combo A ($58.95) and add an order of Japchae ($17.95). The thing that I liked about this place is that you can have your BBQ prepared in the kitchen for you in case you don’t really feel like doing the BBQ yourself. The thing that’s really impressive here is the number of banchan dishes that comes with your meal.
I love Korean food, it’s probably number to on my list in terms of my go to foods. Kook Korean BBQ is the newest entry into the East Van hood and i’m a fan. Why?. Marinades are amazing. High quality cuts of meats. Amazing selection of side dishes that can be refilled. Plenty of free parking
No, I did not spell cook wrong! Kook Korean BBQ is a relatively new restaurant that opened up earlier this year in First Avenue Marketplace. I have been eyeing this place for awhile but have yet to come until now! Kook is a nice addition to the other restaurants in First Avenue Marketplace, and the only Korean restaurant in this area
It is safe for me to say after trying Kook for our first time, that this is hands down the best Korean BBQ experience in the East Vancouver area (finally!) To me, this even beats the Korean BBQ places downtown. There is a traditional Korean ambience in the restaurant, from the wooden seats to the bronzeware cups and bowls (bangjja) which I love. It reminds me of being back in Korea. If you love Korean BBQ, you will not be disappointed here. There is a wide selection of complimentary side dishes which are bottomless, and they’re ALL really good!! We ordered combo B for 4 people and it was just enough food (appetizers, meats & entrees) to fill us all up. Presentation was beautiful, as you can see in my photos. Service was great! The manager really cared about our experience and if we were satisfied with our order/dishes. We already agreed we are coming back to introduce this place to our other friends and family. You don’t even need to come here for BBQ as they serve cooked traditional Korean dishes & soups as well. Kook has a bright future ahead of them and we can’t wait to come back! HIGHLY recommend this to any BBQ food lover. 5 stars from me 👏👏👏
