Thai Basil is one of the more popular Thai restaurant chains in Vancouver with three locations (Kitsilano, Thurlow, West Broadway) and an upcoming fourth location on Commercial Drive. Good for dine-in or takeout, Thai Basil offers fast and tasty Thai food at affordable prices. The Thai Basil on Thurlow is my usual location but I have ordered from Thai Basil in Kitsilano on a few occasions.
Last time I tried some Chu Chee Chicken curry (Today's Special) and I wanted to order that but it wasn't available today but instead I tried Massaman Curry with chicken and it was delicious.
Massaman Curry: red tomato curry with cashews, cilantro, and potatoes.
If you like the tangy sweetness of Butter Chicken you will like the Massaman Curry. 👍😃 I'm definitely ordering this again.
Order the Thai Ice Tea if you want an afternoon treat!
First time at Thai Basil so I played safe & ordered the Pad Thai and Thai Iced Tea.
Flavours were good. What this dish lacked in shrimp (3pcs) and Cilantro made up for in generous portions of noodles, sprouts & chunks of tofu. So it depends on your preference. I prefer my own home made Pad Thai but I am more inclined to the shrimp & cilantro. I also add chicken. I definitely couldn't dish up plate and tea for under $15.
I will be back and be more adventurous next time.
Be prepared to wait in line if it's a sunny week lol. I wanted to minimize the junk food binging... Just a bit lol. After a 20 min wait in line I reach the front till. I ordered #28 and #31. The Thai fried rice is delicious but I think I'll get it extra spicy next time. The egg plant dish is absolutely delicious, but it didn't come with rice. My bad I should've not assumed it did. Next time I'll order there 10 dollar combo which comes with salad and rice. Next weekend I'll try the pad thai. It was almost a 4 rating except the cashier didn't give us cutlery to go... Like I said, most likely my fault for assuming but come in folks, when people order to go you'd think they shove cutlery in the bag. Atleast I got napkins lol. Great place with a view of the beach nonetheless.
Although I haven't tried that many Thai restaurants, I don't feel the need to venture much further than Thai Basil. $10 or less will get you a lunch with a ocean-front view. Dinner portions are the same as lunch but cost about $3 more.
My favourite is their Pad Thai, but their Panaeng curry is also very good (but warning, it's spicy!) I love how pretty much all the dishes have a vegetarian option (i.e. tofu); they don't skimp on ingredients either. Only downside is that some dishes, mainly stir fried ones, can be a bit oily.
It's a spot I will bring out of town friends and family to because the food is delicious, prices are very affordable, portions are generous, and location is prime.
Great. Really great food, very consistent with delivery. Deep fried tofu is amazing, and they are very accommodating for vegetarians. Brought my friend from Thailand here, and she gave it her approval!
Having lunch with the view of the beach was so awesome. It was a beautiful day out so it was the perfect location to go for lunch. It’s a simple place with very tasty food. I had the grilled chicken with rice which was good but my friend had the green curry and that was delicious.
Good Pad Thai. great value for money. Pad Thai was a medium size dish.
Well cooked with good Thai flavor.
Curry is delish!. Nice small thai place! the red panang dish and green curry with tofu and eggplant both were delicious and not too spicy, will be be back :) and what a great view over looking the water!
