My favourite dim sum place. I don't visit often because it's kind of not really around anything and is out of the way. Not much parking either. It's been years since I've been but last I was there, they still did that oldish fashion pushing a cart around thing. Not a lot of places do that anymore and I quote enjoyed being able to come here to have something closer to the authentic experience.
This is my local and I love the food and service and it is my regular place. I do miss the traditional carts though. Be warned they don't take credit cards.
Would I recommend it? Yes, I would. The average price per dish is about $7.00 so expect the bill to be expensive. Each person is charged 99 cents for tea. Bring cash or debit during dim sum cause they won’t accept a credit card. But the food is good, it’s good traditional dim sum. Try their tapioca pudding as a dessert if you go.
came here during weekend morning and well it's quite packed as usual, and definitely the food is good as well, ordered a few dishes that i usually ordered charsiubao, chicken knuckle, feet and egg tart, all was seasoned well to perfection and the texture of each item was excellent as well, like the chicken knuckles were crunchy and the flour was thin enough to be able to taste the crispness of deepfried and the seasoning is good as well. the charsiubao the bread/bao outside is fluffy and the meat taste great :D definitely worth the money and wait.
the place though, they are cramping everyone as much as possible to fit in so can be quite rowdy for sure and need to flag down waitress some times
Been coming here for ages now from when they still had push cart dimsum to now where you order from a sheet. The foods always been very good and the price is decent as well.
We were craving egg tofu, so we stopped by Dai Tung for dinner. We ordered the braised egg tofu with dried scallops which also come with gai lan and the egg white and scallop fried rice. The egg tofu was so good! The tofu is nice and soft, and they put a ton of sauce on it. The gai lan was also delicious, a nice compliment to the tofu. The fried rice had a ton of flavour, a little bit oily but that helped enhance the dish in our opinion. Super simple with just egg white, scallops and green onions but it works so well!
Service was decent, we would have given a 4 but prices are a little bit on the expensive side. We will be back when we crave the egg tofu though.
Excellent dim sum. A little bit hard to find, but you'll manage. They lost a point for not having the traditional dim sum carts in spite of being a big restaurant inside, but the food is good and the mustard served with the dim sum is nice and hot. They have a couple of neat ideas, such as what I like to call a 'Chinese hotdog', which is a Chinese sausage wrapped in a sweet bun. Delicious.
Thumbs 👍🏻 All tho my photo is half eaten & could not wait to eat these dishes 😋 The Beef Congee was my comfort food here very tasty when you add the scallion consommé. The Sticky Rice stuffed in lotus leafs and Spring Rolls were as they should be great Flavour's as well 🤗 Also the Sweet N Sour Pork was so meaty crispy and saucy with there in house pineapple sauce yummy😋 tea keep it coming 🙂 & not to mention the warm Egg Tarts that were brought to our table for free just finished off everything !! Last for best the service was top notch fast & friendly 👌🏻
Thumbs 👎🏻 The parking was slim very slim this place was packed but that is a good thing 🙃 to get a seat you might want to gets there early🤗 Also the Har Gow we had was very much tasty our only problem was the dumplings were very over cooked 😕
Fingers out 🤘🏻We felt right at home here like we have been here numerous times even tho it was busy & loud .. Everyone was very nice the whole staff also other customers & great thanks to all the chefs in the kitchen great job team 👍🏻 it takes a lot for the amount of food that these chefs have to cook everyday here great job !! We will be back again count on us only we are coming back to fill a larger table Cheers from the Trusty Island Critic 😉
Always came here for their Famous Chicken. So tasty even without having to dip into the green onion and ginger sauce. I can eat a whole bucket of rice with that chicken. Just thinking about it, makes me hungry.
Downside, my family used to come here for dimsum and dinners all the time. We didn't know much places in Vancouver and my uncle suggested this place. Ever since we always just come here. After moving to Vancouver, either my taste buds changed or their dimsum quality has gone downhill. It just doesn't taste as great anymore. I personally wouldn't come back here for dimsum again since there is so many good places in Vancouver, but I will definitely come back for the chicken!
I'm sure we've all had the dim sum here. But I just wanted to highlight one of there dishes called the ma po tofu. Spicy minced meat tofu. Serve that over rice and wow that is very comforting.
Update: the quality of food has gotten alot better.
We also noticed the new renos. Unfortunately service is not at par. Bump for the food though.
Why I love this place: our go to for dim sum! They also take reservations!
Would I come back: yes, a couple times a month.
Would I recommend it to others: yes! and you have to order the salty yolk steam bun!
A solid, consistent and reliable choice for dim sum, albeit not a very exciting one. It can get very busy on the weekends, so do keep that in mind, especially if you a larger party. Service is as you would expect from a Chinese restaurant in the area.
On top. I bring my family here at least once a week for their lunch special. You get one item (a generous portion) plus rice and a beverage (or soup to substitute). The service isn't the best, but I don't have high expectations in that category. I go there for the food and reasonable prices. It's one of my favourite Chinese restaurants in the city. Overall, I would give it a B-.
Best Dim Sum. 20% discount Mon - Fri before 11:30am. Love their dim sum.
For starters, I made a reservation on a weekend for 12pm and actually was seated on time!! I have made reservations elsewhere before and usually at Chinese establishments you end up waiting at least another half an hour. Thumbs up that they set a table aside for people who put the effort to make reservations! Good standard dim sum selection. Quality was good. Reasonably priced food as well. Service was the typical Chinese service where you have to really go try to flag a staff member for extra condiments and napkins. I can overlook that because of the price I am paying for the food. However, it might not be acceptable for some people. Service is better on weekdays when it's not packed.
Food was superb! Garlic Spicy Crab was the best I have ever had. Fresh vegetables cooked just right with the right amount of sauce to bring out the flavour of the vegetables. I will be back.
Great food and service. My family and I ate here for lunch for the first time. We arrived at 10:00am and were so surprised to see that the restaurant was packed and so many people were waiting to be seated. We got to sit at around 10:40 and by 11:00, we still didn't have our food. Understandable, as today is BC's first Family Day and yesterday was Chinese New Year.
Our food finally arrived after a few minutes, and I was very impressed. The food was fresh and hot. It was tasty and delicious. The servings were also generous. The service was great, too. The servers were attentive and patient despite how busy and hectic the place was! They were composed and still professional.
So overall, I enjoyed my experience here. I'm not considering how long we had to wait as I'm aware of the Family Day holiday and Chinese New Year. I'd go back for sure, hopefully when it's not so busy.
An interesting twist on some old favorites. Friendly service . My new favorite dim sum place
Wow in love w their dumdum! We come here almost 2 times a week in the past few years! Value is great. However they really need to work on their bathrooms (meaning pls clean it) and parking is quite a pain oh well.. It had not
stopping us from coming back !
Cheap, decent dim sum.. Let me start off by saying that if you're thinking that the quality here is going to be the same as Kirin, you're sorely mistaken. The majority of dishes are $2.75, and they have quite a large variety beyond har gow and siu mai. My personal favorite are chive and shrimp dumplings, and this place had decent ones. They have carts wth piping hot dim sum brought around, but also a lot of the same servers bringing around "cold" dim sum - fried stuff like a place of char siu pastry, or deep fried tofu that noone wants, but they keep bringing around in hopes a new customer will take it. I can spot this a mile away. I also didn't like that some of the servers were quite pushy in selling you certain dishes - they pretty much placed it on our table and was about to mark our sheet even though I kept on telling her I didn't want it (In cantonese).
I DO notice that they must use a lot of MSG in their dim sum though, as during the meal you don't notice, but you're super thirsty afterwards.
Salt-baked Chicken!. This is my go-to place for dim sum for many years now. One reason is because they are one of the few out there that still have the push-carts of dim sum going around. Although there have been some 'misses' a few times (ex. a steamed dumpling that tasted like it went bad), the food overall is pretty decent. One dish I would recommend is their salt-baked chicken. They have them going around during dim sum hours, but usually it's only a medium-sized bowl. If you want more chicken and are planning to share with a number of people, I suggest you order the plate (comes with rice as well). The special salt mixed with rice is so yummy. I also like their deep-fried calamari, cold chicken feet, har gow, siu mai, and steamed rice rolls. Price is reasonable (on the cheaper side compared to those 'higher-class' dim sum restaurants). And yes...prepare for long waits during lunch hours and weekends.
Go early!. Dim sum is brought by on carts - my relatives love this style though I found some items were a little cold. As well, as we were there so early, we didn't get some of the items we normally order. Apparently, it gets really busy around 11:00 am. Solid haw gow, siu mai, egg rolls and gai lan. The squid was a little overcooked and greasy for me.
GOOD Dim Sum. Finally made it here due to many + reviews on US. Wanted to visit on weekday opposed to weekend - where line-ups R krazy.
This place offers dim - sum with cart service and everything was spot-ON. Good place - but be forewarned about weekend line-ups + poor parking
Delicious and Affordable!. I have (finally) found a place for my dim sum fix! Dai Tung serves dim sum everyday from 12-3p and they have the push carts! Brings me back to my childhood. Three of us ate there for only $24 (incl. tax) and we were all definitely satisfied. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Pile up may be a while 4 next cart/slow. Good but limited and slow. we eat dim sum all in SF, portland, vancouver, houstan .....etc.
Great dim sum. Great value. I have eaten here with 8 people and the bill came to $90. Love the stuffed eggplant and the way they slice their gai lan. We're always treated well by the lovely Lily.
Very, Very Good.. On Remembrance Day I waited an hour for a table. For most of those 60 minutes I was questioning my decision to stay and making plans never to return while mumbling contemptuously in the general direction of the elderly woman who talked me into being there in the first place. There were probably 100 people waiting - maybe more. After the first dish (fried squid) I had softened my position from never returning to never returning at 12:30 on Remembrance Day. By the time the har gau landed on the table Dai Tung had become my new favourite dim sum in Vancouver. Moral of the story? I should never have doubted my mommy.
Decent. This place is really hard to get to by transit, but easy by driving. We were sitted pretty quickly and the food started to come around. We had the deep fried taro ball, which was probably the worst I've ever had, all dried and shriveled. The sponge cake was nice and fluffy, the sui mai and ha gaw was okay, the shrimp tofu thing was delicious, mango pudding and tofu pudding was pretty good. All in all, only the deep fried taro ball really disappointed me, but the rest were pretty delicious. I have to admit though, it's pretty cheap as compare to other dim sum places.
Superb. Cash only dim sum; very busy, servers kind of forgot stuff we asked for several times, but we came at a very busy period and were seated at the very back. portions were great and delicious, but a lot of the stuff we wanted kept running out by the time it got to us. ): i think you can probably order from the kitchen if you want something specific though. each table is given a picture menu. :) our bill for 5 was only around 40$, which is a great price for us!
We like to eat .... Another Pro-d day. Dim sum in Vancouver. Good dim sum at a great price. Original cart service as well. Dai Tung has all of the regular items you would expect.
Cash only at dim sum though.
My wife and I were craving Dim Sum and I happen to be reading the Georgia Straight and read an article on this restaurant. We came in about 2pm to avoid the lunch rush. They sat us down quickly and served us a pot of Jasmine tea. The food is tasty and better yet, cheap. The portions were larger than normal(dim sum size of golf balls). The ala carte came by once and we ordered 5 items and one to order from the kitchen. It's better to order fried food from the kitchen so it's fresher and crunchy rather than soggy. The meal for 2 was under $20. This is a great place to eat if you are on a budget. We will come here again.
LOVE IT!. I would definitely reccomend this place. I have to come from Surrey, but it's so worth it. The siu mai is delicious. The only negative things I could say is that the service is the average Chinese-restaurant-kinda service and that they don't have much selection.. If your just looking for siu mai and ha gao some chicken feet.. this is the place to go! It's not too pricey either
Crab with cream sauce and noodles under. Delicious. The sauce was a little bland, but maybe I'm just being a baby about it.

We’ve been to Dai Tung before and I have to say that from all the dim sum places we’ve been to, this is one of my favourites in the city.
There was a large variety of different dim sum's and I would definitely come back again. Inexpensive and delicious!

This month's EAT Magazine is out now, with a short piece I did called Five Great Restaurants We'd Never Heard Of on five of my favorite local (ethnic) haunts. Dai Tung Chinese Restaurant for dim sum is one of them and because I was just there again this p
Dai Tung is located on Kingsway near the intersection with Windsor (see this map for the location). Come to think of it, the last time we were here was EIGHT years ago with a family friend who just came to Vancouver. I still remember when we had to endure
