Highly recommended by BQ and he wasn't wrong,we both ordered the delicious Malay Laksa Soup with beef brisket, beef(melt in your mouth)tendon and watercress,i had the egg noodles and he went with the vermicelli noodles the soup base is out of this world freakin delicious i still can't believe they only charged $11.25 per person for the unbelievable amount of food we had,i highly recommended this location. A friendly reminder to get there early as this place fills up very quickly and there's always a lineup outside

Ben and I went for a hike at Lynn Canyon in North Vancouver. After our hike, we returned to Vancouver to have lunch. We had lunch at Deer Garden on Fraser St. There is a Diners’ Choice Awards plaque at the entrance. It’s for the best Hong Kong style cafe for the year 2014. Nothing says more than the decoration on the wall about the restaurant name.

I really like these places where you can choose your soup base, noodles, toppings, and drink. Deer garden is the first place I ever had this. I've been a few times and haven't been disappointed. I always get the tomato and pumpkin soup base. I chose beef tendon and sliced beef brisket this time. The tendon was really tender, but the brisket I found was too fatty. There wasn't really much meat on the pieces I got. I like how they give you some veggies and it includes bean curd. The portion was just right. I was able to finish the noodles, and felt full. Overall, for the price and portion, I think it is worth it. Service is just OK. They brought us the bill before we were even done. I guess they wanted the table because I could see quite a few people that were waiting. They weren't rude about it, but I knew they wanted us to be done quicker. I'd still come back though because the food is solid and priced decently.

I went to Deer Garden with a group of friends and man oh man, was that a lot of food. The soup and drink combo gives you an enormous bowl of soup. For the price, it was nice and tasty. The broth was light and had enough flavour. There was plenty of toppings and noodles to fill you up. Finishing a bowl is like a guaranteed food coma, there was so much.

The service was okay and pretty much what you'd expect; the staff just get the job done. Turn around for orders and food is pretty quick. Deer Garden is a place to fill up on a big bowl of hot food- nothing fancy, just simple.

Last minute my girlfriend and I wanted a quick meal. We saw the pictures online and decided to give it a try. We saw the bowls of noodles around us and our jaws just dropped LOL. So we decided to get one bowl and 2 appetizers. It was enough for the both of us, there's no way we could finish a bowl to ourselves.
The laksa broth is really tasty. And the marinated tofu and cuttlefish is good, but not the best, but still good.
I would like to come back for a baked dish.
Service is prompt and efficient. The place gets packed quick.

I can never finish a full bowl of noodles here. A good tip if you're coming with a friend is to order a bowl of noodles then add the noodle upgrade. That basically give you another bowl of plain noodles for $1.50. And then you'll have room for the chicken wings!

Deer Garden Signatures looks shabby on the outside but it's always bustling inside and there is usually a line up. However, their restraint is deceptively large and their service is prompt so turnaround is quite fast. You won't have to wait long for a table.

The food portions are huge, so among the three of us we shared two bowls of noodles and some sides. They serve the do it yourself noodle bowls with large amounts of complimentary toppings. Instead of only generic cabbage, they also give mushrooms and soup base specific toppings, such as watercress. Unfortunately, on this occasion, their attention to detail was lacking and some of the mushrooms were not cleaned properly.

The soup base and noodles were excellent and they were very generous with toppings. We got the fish soup base and it was absolutely delicious. Other than the portions and their soup base, the rest of the meal was pretty mediocre. The sides were generic, but they did pair well with the noodles.

Overall, I would come back here if I was especially hungry and wanted a large bowl of noodles at a reasonable price.

Deer Garden Signatures is a franchise chain of 'create your own noodle soup' restaurant. For the purposes of this review, it will be for the Punjabi Market location (Fraser and 47th). Parking at this location is a bit hit and miss but really depends on whether you want to walk a bit to get to the restaurant. There is your typical street parking all along Fraser Street but there are a couple of stalls right behind the restaurant. The caveat for this is that there is no back entrance so you'll need to walk to the front of the restaurant. There is generally ample parking to the parking lots just went of Fraser street so if walking isn't a concern, park there instead.

The ambiance of the restaurant is fairly modern. Everything looks new and looks trendy. There is a mix of young and more senior people eating here so no matter the age group, you'll fit right in. The restaurant will seat around 60 people at capacity and during their peak hours, there might be a bit of a wait.

We ordered two 'create your own noodle soup' - both using the Laksa soup base and egg noodles. The toppings we chose were beef brisket, chicken balls, sausage, luncheon meat (spam), and fried tofu .

The beef brisket here is honestly some of the best beef brisket we've had at any soup restaurant. They're also quite generous with their portions so you'll get some really nice fatty melt in your mouth pieces that are very tasty. The chicken balls are better than most as well with quite a bit of taste to them. The spices in there are just right. The sausage (or wiener) is just that though. Your typical hot dog wiener that has been grilled. The luncheon meat/spam is nice and tasty. If you have an aversion to spam, I would recommend trying it having been pan fried beforehand. It tastes drastically different than in its original form. The tofu was nice and fluffy and there was lots of it as well.

We also ordered the cow tongue. If you haven't tried cow tongue, it's just like eating a really soft piece of meat. If you can get over the whole 'but it's a tongue' idea, we think that you'll really enjoy it and really appreciate the subtlety in different taste and texture of it.

Service is pretty mechanical here as you really just place your order on a form and they take it from you and input it into their system. This means that interactions are very basic and limited. Not a problem for us but we're not sure you'd really call this service. Food came out quick so they're very efficient at their work.

Deer Garden is exactly what we've happily come to expect. They have nailed down their consistency when it comes to their food and the experience. It's a great choice for 'create your own noodle soup' but don't really expect more than that. Everything is tasty and the price point is great - just don't expect anything other than mechanical service.

Well then i was impressed the healthy options that deer signatures that I've tried in richmond so i've decided to visit another location of deer garden signature in this location while i'm around, and true enough, it tasted quite good as well no difference this time. i ordered my fish soup and with lots of ingredients that it's filled almost to the brim, and yes i did finish it as well! :) the soup is slightly more light in terms of the flavour, but at the same time it's not flavourless, just good enough and the aroma is good, the noodle is just firm and tangy how i like them, and the veggies and meat are good no doubt about them. also ordered an appetizer pork belly deepfried hmmm this one is not as good as i though it would be, so better stick to the noodles next time for me :D no food should be left unfinished. :D

overall would say it's a good option if you're around the area and craving for noodles, and fish soup :D

I love that the soups here come with a drink (you can choose form various hot or cold coffee and teas). The laksa broth was rich from the coconut milk and had a good level of spice to it. It was enough to get your tongue tingling but not too overwhelming. The picture doesn’t show it, but there was a massive amount of rice noodles in the soup that is definitely enough to fill you up (you can choose between several different types of noodles for your soup).

Although our intention was to visit Bubble World on Fraser street, it was unfortunately closed during weekday hours.  Thus, we hopped over to the nearby Deer Garden.  We visited Deer Garden’s Richmond location several times already, however this was our first visit to this Fraser Street location.

I can’t believe I haven’t written about Deer Garden yet because I love this place so much! I would come here more if there wasn’t any lines, and if I lived closer. The boyfriend and I both hate waiting in lines for food, which is why we don’t come here as often as we like.

Does anyone here watch Big Brother Canada? Every time I come here, I am reminded of Marsha the Moose from their wall decor.Soup base & noodles combo, $9.95: The reason why the boyfriend loves this place a lot more than Cattle Cafe is that Deer Garden still serves the spicy peanut soup. Ever since Cattle Cafe discontinued the spicy peanut soup, he jumps at the chance to go to Deer Garden as they are the only place around that still has it. Correct me if I’m wrong or if you know of any other restaurants with the spicy peanut soup base!

Very good price for "build your own noodle soup" and free hot drink. I always go for the spicy peanut broth (not spicy at all) and a side of chicken wings. If you want to dine here, make time for it! It's usually packed for lunch.

It would have been better if their service is good. I like their noodles; however, they are kinda slow and they shout at each other (which is kinda weird for me). Anyway, the noodles' good.

We had wanted to try Non Stop Pizza again but it turned out they were not just closed, but closed down on their Fraser Street location. The whole block (?) was scheduled for demolition and, probably, gentrification. So my second choice was Deer Garden Signatures, which I'd been curious about but wasn't about to run out to Richmond for.

Wow this place is exceptional value, super speedy and really busy! Line up was persistent after 6pm and reservations were taken for groups over 5. The soup broth is fish based and guaranteed no msg.

Style of eating: choose your own adventure Hong Kong cafe. A) type of soup base B) type of noodle C) your toppings. There are so many combinations and permutations! Also they're pretty nice if you don't exact speak Chinese. ;) taste is pretty good and an be made more or less flavourful based on selections. We also added an extra order of beef tongue pan fried. I went to this place on a week day after noon, this restaurant has three locations in total, two in Richmond and one in Vancouver, today I went to this VANCOUVER location, this restaurant has a sheet of paper for you to fill out its kind of like build your own combo first you pick your soup, then you pick your noodle, then you pick two of your own topping, and you can have two side orders, today I had regular soup with Korean noodle with crab meat and fish slice, my two sides were fish puff with pork chop, all were delicious, I would recommend this place for every one with a budget mind.

Great take out food but not the best DG restaurant. I prefer to pre-order take-out from the Fraser Street location. With their constant line-ups and lack of available parking spots, I would suggest to visit their Sexsmith location for the best dine-in experience of the three locations.

My Old Default. Ah, my old default restaurant. I've tried pretty much everything on the menu, and every single time Deer Garden never fails me. My favourite time to eat there is probably between 3-6, when I can order the afternoon tea meals. Same portion, lower price. True, it can get very crowded in there at times, and the service can be curt and abrupt for those not used to HK style cafes, but I definitely get what I'm paying for, and that's a huge bowl of piping hot noodles with an incredible soup base.

"Almost" like the old Alderbridge fish soup. I have been to both the Alderbridge and Sexsmith location for a few times, so I had the expectation of the exact same thing. The soup was, however, not very flavourful compared to the Alderbridge location. It did felt like I'm getting more meat though, not sure if because they just opened. Choice is exactly the same. Chicken wings and deep fried pork chop are on par with the standards. Neverthless, I would definitely come back for the original fish soup if I'm craving for one and happen to be in the East Vancouver area.

Deer garden is one of my favourite go-to places when it gets chilly. Their noodle soup combos are HUGE and jam packed with ingredients. I love being able to choose different soup stocks, noodles and toppings each time. With their set meals or soup combos, you get tea included in the meal or can add specialty drinks for an extra $1 or $2. I've tried their mango smoothie milk shake and it tastes just like mango ice cream bubble tea. Its a pretty good deal to get with your meal. They also have the option of adding sides for $2 but their sides are very small portions of the listed item. For example, the chicken teriyaki it was just a fried chicken patty with teriyaki sauce and the desert wings were only 3 dressed chicken wings.  Food:  4/5  Quality of the food is usually really decent! I didn't like their fish soup base because I found it bland and some options they have for toppings that I've tried weren't very worthwile. So far, I've found that their spicy soup bases are the best. The Peanut Sauce with Chili became my instant favorite the first time that I had it, but sometimes the sauce is made to be too thick and heavy and it actually feels like eating noodles with peanut butter. The Malay Laksa soup is a very rich spicy soup that has a vinegary tint to it, it tastes a lot like kimchi but a bit more sour. I've had no problems with their drinks. Once a waitress recommended to order the House Milk Tea because that's one of the few drinks made in store and not with powder. The Wheat Germ Milk Tea and Mango Smoothie Milk Shake are my favorites. Atmosphere:  4/5,  Service  4/5 The staff at the Vancouver Fraser Street Location are usually efficiency focused and aren't particularly warm and welcoming but you get your food quick. Recommended  Yes Revisit?  Yes

I got Malay Laksa for the base, Sweet Potato Noodles, Watercress, and Chicken balls. The broth itself had quite a kick to it, i’d rate it at about 2.5-3 Alarm. Although not that bad itself, the fact that the noodles have a tendency to absorb fluids they’re in meant every bite was a slow burn (maybe I’m just lightweight with spicy things lol). Although I wish there was more watercress, there was an ample amount of bean curd in its place, so I can’t complain! The chicken balls were a wee bit bland though, I’m pretty sure they’re of the frozen hot pot variety, but whatever. Just on a passing sidenote, I’d HIGHLY recommend the peanut sauce and chili broth..it makes the whole thing seem like Tan Tan Noodles! Good: -Very quick to bring food out -Fi
