This is a small Vietnamese joint located on Granville, in Marpole. They serve up a basic menu consisting of the regular Vietnamese pho and other dishes. I had their Pork Patty Salad Rolls, Com Ga, and Vietnamese Coffee. The food is fairly decent; not the best that I've had, but still enjoyable. Prices are fairly reasonable while the service is minimal, but the staff still friendly. All in all, not a bad joint for some Vietnamese fare.
Pork Patty Salad Rolls, 2 pc ($7.25)
3.5/5
The salad rolls contained vermicelli and pieces of pork, and is served with a side of peanut sauce. The pork was tender and had a nice flavour. On their own, the rolls were a bit on the bland side, however they are quite tasty when dipped in the sauce.
Com Ga ($11.25):
3/5
This consisted of lemongrass chicken on rice. Unfortunately, I found the chicken here to be a tad of a letdown: it was a little underseasoned and bland, and missing the charred grilled flavour. It wasn't bad though, and I still enjoyed it.
Vietnamese Coffee ($4.25):
4/5
This was coffee served on a layer of condensed milk. Full disclosure: I'm definitely not a coffee expert and I can't tell the difference between good coffee and bad coffee. I can only say that I really enjoyed the drink here: the coffee paired incredibly well with the condensed milk, which lent a great creaminess and a nice sweetness.
Summary:
Food: 3.5/5
Price: 4/5
Service: 3/5
Overall: 3.5/5

Wanted to try a new place and saw that it had some good reviews. Glad that I did end up trying it. Servers were friendly and we didn't have to wait long for our food. I had their large #2 House Special with medium rare beef slices, beef balls, beef tendon, and tripe. They also give you bean sprouts and Thai basil on the side. The thing they emphasize here is that there's no msg. They don't need the msg because their broth is full of flavour. It doesn't feel oily or too heavy. The pho was pretty filling and everything tasted good. I would definitely come back. They also have stamp cards too to get a free bowl of pho!
My go-to place for pho. The broth does not have MSG and still has a lot of flavours. The rare beef is quite rare which is nice because is doesnt dry out as quickly. They also offer a customer stamp card. The only thing I wish is they put more tripe and tendon in their soups.
Fast, high quality food and friendly service. Best of all they have free off street parking in front of the restaurant.
Small and clean interior. Servers were relatively pleasant and food was decent. Pretty quiet on a tuesday night which was nice, probably gets busy on weekends.
Excellent, no msg. loyalty card. free meal after 10 purchases. fresh pho with all the trimmings. staff are moderately friendly but it's not exactly fine dining
Ben drove to Granville St., with the intention to have lunch at one of the restaurants along the that street. We ended checking out Pho Mai Mai as it was rainy day and a bowl of noodle soup will be heart warming. The restaurant was pretty quiet when we arrived. Just simple seating arrangement, nothing fancy.
We are regulars to this little restaurant because it's the best pho in Vancouver. Made from bone broth, the depth and complexity of the flavours is top notch. They also have a homemade chilli sauce that I had sadly overlooked for 6 months before I gave it a try. It's yet another amazing flavour to add to the soup! Staff are friendly but not chatty, and the owner is a great, personable guy. Hopefully with all their success, they will eventually be able to update their humble decor and cold fluorescent lighting to make the place feel a bit more warm and inviting. And maybe they will bring back the subs too, they were tasty. Lastly, free tea service would be great, I know many other pho restaurants include this. But these aren't deal-breakers, just little things to improve the overall taste sensations you'll be enjoying when you dine here!
Since my first visit, I've been back maybe 7 times and I bring absolutely everyone I know to my now favourite pho restaurant. This is the #2 Small ($7.95) and it contains rare beef slices (which gets cooked in the hot broth), tendon, tripe, and beef balls. You'll notice the broth is a bit darker in colour than the traditional ones we're used to eating. It's darker because the owners need to use more beef meat and bones in their broth to make up for the lack of MSG. What you'll get is a richer, more flavourful, yet cleaner broth
What does McDonald’s, bubble tea, and pho joints have in common? That is, other than being places where I spent way too much time as a teen? They have stamp cards! Well, at least they do at Cafe Mai Mai which is where we went on the completely un-significant date of July 4th. Although we didn’t celebrate private healthcare and cultural melting pots, we did have special guests Pho-armacist and SleepyPho!
Best best best pho in town. Knowing there's no msg added makes me enjoy it even more! Even though there is no msg, the flavours are spectacular. Beef tendon is very tender, broth is flavourful and taste honest. My bf loves their spicy sauce so much also that he bought a jar home with him. The owner is very friendly.
one of my favourite Pho place! love their soup base! no MSG so it doesn't make me die of thirst after... sad that they don't have the lemon grass chicken anymore :(
Yummy soup! This is my favourite pho place in town. Wish they'd give you green chilli to add to you soup though.
This place has my favourite pho. I didn't even like pho until I ate here, but their bone broth is unlike anything I've tasted, they make it from scratch without MSG and it's glorious. I've eaten here about once a week for the few years and I almost always get a large #8. The staff are also friendly which makes for a nice environment.

Love this place. The owner is extremely nice, and the food is excellent. Their pho broth is actually homemade frim bone and veggies... Arguably one of the best pho placed in Vancouver! They used to have slow service (because they got to be so popular) but have now hired more help and are back to their usual excellent, fast service. Highly recommend this for a quick lunch during work hours, and a good dinner with friends. Ambiance is nothing special, but the food is so good :)
Tried their pho for the first time and it was amazing! Beautiful flavours and fresh ingredients. Nice friendly service as well- a stark contrast to their awful Ikura neighbor. Will definitely go back again.
Best pho in Vancouver. This place has got the taste and health aspects down. With no MSG, this pho place is by far my favourite one. I am typically one to always try the soup first before adding in any of the sauce. However the soup is so good here that I always end up drinking all the soup before I even get to start on my noodles! This place is amazing and the couple who own the place are adorable. Would definitely recommend!
Thumbs up. Excellent food at an excellent price. The owner is very friendly and he made sure that we were satisfied with the food. Be aware that the parking lot is rather small and difficult to maneuver in if you have a larger vehicle. We will definitely return if we are in the neighborhood.
Good food sweet owner. Nice and clean. Would come back!
Un-phogetable. Was quite phonominal. Will return pho sho.
My boyfriend's favourite food is pho, and this is hands down the best pho we've ever had!! the msg-free soup is so addicting and delicious, and doesn't leave you wanting to gulp down multiple glasses of water. Also, Hilton, the owner is so friendly, and has now memorized our usual orders. Prices are cheaper than most pho places. I've tried a few of their other dishes, like the spring rolls and bun, and they're also fantastic.
Check this place out!!! There's a few reserved spots for the restaurant and free parking on Granville St. around dinner time.
We tried this place for the first time and were extremely impressed! Everything was very fresh, super tasty! It's very clean inside and the people are friendly!
The homemade chilli sauce is a must!
It's now our new "go to" for Vietnamese
Highly recommended
Best Pho Ever !. The food is very tasty and no MSG. The owner is nice and the place is clean.
I enjoy the soup and the Subs are to die for :P
Probably the best Pho Restaurant in South Vancouver .... 5/5 for sure
Awesome Food and Service. The ingredients are fresh and plentiful in the pho, the soup base tastes great (with no MSG!), and the waffles are surprisingly delicious! The waitress timed the making of our waffle perfectly so that we can enjoy it shortly after we finished our noodles. The owners are very friendly as well, and takes the time to interact and chat with customers. I highly recommend this place!
Great food, friendly service. I've ordered their spring rolls a few times already and both times they were delicious, and huge I may add. The vermicelli bowls and banh mi's are good too. They also have a stamp card and I believe it's buy 10 meals get one free? I live a few blocks away and have been a frequent visitor since my first visit.
Great neighborhood pho. Finally had a chance to try Cafe Mai-Mai after Cafe de l'orangerie had moved to new location three months ago.
Cafe Mai-Mai kept most of the previous decor which is fine as I always believe good food is more important than anything else.
I ordered the medium rare beef pho while hubby ordered the vermicelli bowl with spring roll and pork. The beef pho is great and a good portion for its price. I just love the No-MSG soup base. You can taste and see that they've used real ingredients for the soup base because you will not need to drink lots and lots of water after you go home.
The vermicelli bowl is again a very good portion for its price. And hubby said it tastes good and is comparable to the vermicelli bowl at Cuu Long (which has great vermicelli bowls).
Owner is so nice and friendly which is always a bonus to an already great restaurant.
Definitely will come back to try their subs and dessert as they're all made in-house. Glad to have this great new addition to the neighborhood.
We spotted Cafe Mai-Mai on the way home from Richmond and the first thing that caught our eye was the $5.99 combo for a foot-long Vietnamese sub and pop. Sure you can get a $5 foot-long from Subway with your choice of toppings, but I would rather pay the dollar more for the Vietnamese sub. And hey, if you don’t like the sub, you can always order pho!
4.5/5 [NO MSG] Their pho made me cry. I accidentally violated my tongue with WAY too much spicy oil. Would I have cried out of the greatness of this pho regardless? Probably. Cafe Mai Mai is this quaint little decently sized pho shop. I ordered a Vietnamese Coffee (super delicious. Iced coffee with condensed milk) and a vegetarian pho . Their vietnamese coffee came with a generous large glass of ice, and it was downright refreshing. The pho Oh. The pho was soooo pho-king good. Massive bowl of pho. Massive. And the broth was really good and clear. They gave me so many pieces of the vegetarian sausage!!! It's so good!!! The inside decor isn't anything to praise, and could definitely be better, but to be honest, I don't expect exceptional decor from pho places, ever. They are also doing charity work on the wall, which is really cool. Really great pho, good service, if you are ever in the area, don't hesitate to visit them! Stamp of approval, xx Angel
