This is a pizza joint located in UBC, near the Ponderos Commons. Their menu consists of wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas as well as pastas and desserts. I had their Tortellini and an Al Pesto Pizza. The food wasn't fantastic but still good; the prices were quite reasonable. While this is not the best pizza joint that I've been to, but definitely a good choice if you're on campus.
Tortellini ($7.75):

This was in a cream sauce and is topped with parmesan. The pasta itself was a tad overcooked for me and didn't appear to have much filling, and was a bit bland on its own. I did quite enjoy the sauce, which was creamy albeit a tad bit underseasoned.
Al Pesto Pizza ($12.50):
3.5/5
This was topped with pesto, prosciutto, cheese, artichokes, and tomatoes. The crust wasn't very crispy, although it was thin and flavourful. There was a good amount of topping. The pesto was very flavourful, albeit a bit on the salty side; I really enjoyed the tomatoes, which provided a great tanginess. Unfortunately, I wasn't a big fan of the artichokes.

Recommendations: Al Pesto Pizza
Great place to visit on the UBC campus. The prices are really reasonable and the service is quick fast considering the number of people visiting here for lunch. I ordered the pizza Bianca, which was this cheesy and slightly creamy pizza. I'm not a fan of pizza, but I was reasonably pleased. The pizza came in a nice and super convenient takeaway box, so you can grab it on the go too.
There's plenty of space to sit inside, and if not, you can sit outside. People can study here too!
My second time going to Mercante. The first time was maybe two years ago and the food was good but the food safety was bad… was hoping for a better experience this time!. Al pesto pizza ($11) – Pesto, proscuitto cotto, mozzarella, gorgonzola, artichokes, pickled tomatoes. I had the Al pesto pizza. For pizza that’s cooked in a wood-fired oven, it’s really cheap.
Tried their pizza out and gotta say it's pretty good for campus food. One of the better options at UBC. I had the prosciutto e rucola. I split it with my friend because we were just planning to have a snack. I could probably eat the whole pizza myself though. It was a bit difficult to eat because the person didn't cut it properly, so the prosciutto wasn't cut all the way through.
Overall, food is pretty good and there's plenty of space to sit. Although I went in the summer, so during the school year, it could probably get crowded. But they do have nice large tables and a couple of chairs by the windows as well.
I was on campus a few times and ran into this place. I love how this place is very spacious, there are study rooms and plenty of places to sit.
The pizza was great and it was made fresh right in front of you. I actually tried 4 different pizzas because my family ordered a pizza each: Margherita, Pizza Blanca, Ortonlana, Prosciutto E Rucola and Tiramisu dessert. My favourite was the Ortonlana because of how appetizing it looked with all the fresh arugula piled on top of the pizza(see photo).
The price is perfect at $10-$11 and the size of the pizzas are just right if you are hungry and perfect for 2 if you need a decent sized snack. The tiramisu is just ok, I would order it again only if I was craving for it.
I would definitely drop by here for a pizza if I'm in the neighborhood.
Went there mid Sunday afternoon so it was very quiet with super fast and excellent service. Pizza had good flavour but it wasn't cut all the way through so you had to rip itto split the pieces. It was super heavy on the meat which was good. The sauce could have used a but more flavour to. Wouldn't recommend for a first date as it was pretty messy.

Very decent price for its quality. I think this is the best food run by Ubc food services. All Pizza are made and baked fresh. You have to try the last one on the list, I liked the argula. Not a 5.0 because of the long and chaos waiting situation
The first thing you see when you walk into the Panderosa building is the lineup that forms all the way out the door. This happens everyday during lunch hour, their busiest times when students try to get their hands on these masterpieces. Serving up authentic Italian pizzas right from their wood fired grill, the smell consumes you when you walk in.
On the last week of class, one of my professors from school decided to treat us out for pizza on campus! How nice of her right?. I didnt even know that Mercante existed prior to this but Ive always seen people walking around with pizza boxes and I guess I finally figured out where they’ve all been coming from!
Being vegetarian, it was difficult to choose the pizza. But the staff was really helpful in deciding. The ambience is awesome. And yeah the pizza was tasteful, typical Italian pizza not something with thick base.
Personally didn't enjoy my experience too much. I am not saying I hated it, but I was expecting a little better. I didn't like the type of pizza I got, the Al Pesto. Found that the pesto was underwhelming and overall not too flavourful. Still a decent pizza I'd say. Going to give this place another try and try some other flavours. One thing I do like about this place is that it is good for your wallet. For 10-11$ you can get a full thin crust pizza that personally fills me up.
This is Italian styled pizza, not the westernized stuff. Each pizza comes out differently; sometimes it gets soggy in the middle. Mine usually comes out weird if business is really moving. Overall, it's s convenient place to go to, and one pizza is filling.
This is really one of the better food places around the UBC campus. In terms of the freshness, Mercante's pizza deserves a thumbs up. Although the stone fired oven is a classic for Neapolitan pizzas, the fresh and crunchiness of the crusts is so so good. Aside from the freshness of the ingredients, the pizza is not the best when compared to other pizza competitors around the Vancouver area. Despite being able to taste the freshness, the pizza sauce is really, quite bland. There is honestly not much taste to the pizza sauce, the quintessential factor that distinguishes a pizza from being just good, to being amazing !
Every year I spend a day lecturing at UBC. Every year, I discover yet another new restaurant that takes the concept of student campus food to a higher level. This year's discovery is Mercante - a great space, pizza oven producing fresh pizzas by the second. And if pizza is not your thing, they have lasagnas and lovely tiramisus. The Margherita had exceptional bocconcini melts. The meat one was topped with healthy Arugula. In addition to the fresh, quality Pizza, Mercante uses those nifty pizza boxes that can be flexible to accommodate leftovers within the same box and minimize space used by the pizza leftovers. The only good restaurant at UBC.. The only good restaurant on campus. That should be a good enough reason to visit! Honestly, the pizza is worth every bite. I've never had the pasta before because I always order the pizzas... So definitely give the pizzas a try! They have a great selection. :)

A taste of Italy at UBC. I have been to Mercante multiple times, and have yet to be disappointed. The kitchen is headed by decorated Italian Chef, Duke Mocchi, who runs it with meticulous precision. The quality of the ingredients is exquisite, with both the Prosciutto and the flour being imported from Italy, while the olive oil hails from Spain. The pizzas are cooked in stone hearth oven, the only one of it's kind on the university campus. The colazione (pictured below) is their signature breakfast: an egg poached to runny perfection, placed upon a bed of prosciutto cotto (spinach and cherry tomatoes also available) atop a toasted english muffin and covered in cheese sauce. The gnocchi is a great alternative for lunch, and I would strongly recommend following it up with the house Tiramisu. A shot of espresso will send drowsiness into the next day, and the fire place will warm up any rain soaked wanderer. The joint is extremely popular, with the queue oft piling out of the doors around lunch time. A must for anyone who enjoys quality food for good prices.

Great pizzas!. Friendly staff, good portions and decent prices? I had to double check that I was still on campus! Finally an eatery on campus that serves actual food in a real restaurant environment. Staff are very helpful and accommodating, the guy packing the pizzas even offered me an iced tea on the house while I was waiting for my pizza to come out of the oven. Most of their pizzas are under $10, and are a great value for their distnct taste. The manicotti and lasagna on the other hand, are overpriced for the 4 cubic inch portions they serve.
Cant believe there's authentic italian pizza and tiramisu on campus. we ordered the 3 pizzas (prosciutto, pesto and chorizo). all 3 were super delicious! i also had the awesome tiramisu. my new fav go to place! keep up the good work UBC!
The pizza is on par or better than any pizzeria in van city at 10$ . Lasagnas and salads are also incredible at a low price points.
This place is great pizza is around $10. On par with any other neopolitain pizza joint such as Via tevere, Carano pizza, or Pizzeria Farina. The lasagna bolognese is my favorite thing they serve. I will visit here again and again.

It’s a new Italian cafe and they offer a large selection of pastas, salads, pizzas, and soups. Their pizzas are also made ready to order and are baked in a stone oven. We chose the Alla Salsiccia , which was topped with tons of chorizo, tomatoes, basil, oregano and mozzarella. The dough was light and fluffy and they didn’t cheap out on the ingredients.
