Our plans for lunch got messed up so we went for sushi instead. Never can go wrong with sushi in my books. Scanned for a new spot to try and found Yagoto Sushi Dining. It’s located right beside Evelyn’s Coffee Shop. We dropped in 20 minutes before they closed for lunch on a Monday afternoon but they were very accommodating and didn’t rush us. It’s run by a very gentile Japanese couple. Love the mom and pop shops.
Read some great reviews on Yagota, so decided to skip my usual neighbourhood sushi place and try Yagota instead. It definitely did not disappoint!
I happened to come in shortly after it opened and the entire family said hello to me. I was only picking up food, but they offered me tea while I waited. Their little boy brought me my bill when it was ready (how cute!). I ordered my usual standards - Spicy Salmon Roll, Real Crab California Roll & Tuna Sashimi. All rolls were super fresh. The spicy salmon roll was actually spicy which was great, not always the case.
Definitely will be coming back!
I got their lunch special and was shocked. This place serves authentic Japanese food at extremely cheap prices. They don't even sacrifice any quality. Their fish is fresh and the service is fast. It might not be the best place to go on a date but it's great if you want a casual lunch.
Wow. Totally floored that on westside, to get this quality from an authentic Japanese chef, this is my go-to from now on---before their prices go up. It's insanity.
Ordered Gyozas (lots of meat as per pic) and fresh: not like some places where you can tell the edges are chewy from a hasty defrost.
House Roll: fresh pieces of sashimi & a light special sauce
Real crab cali roll: the best I've had
Tomago: made in house, not as sweet as I would've liked it but still good.
Free wifi!
Not sure if it's date worthy, a bit minimalist decor but perhaps for casual.
Quite a selection of menu items but don't expect any over the top special rolls with crazy sauces, they're not Korean or Chinese haha.
I’m a regular at the local Kits Fitness World gym and typically I workout just before lunch time which means I’m starving the moment I walk out their doors. My usual go-to is a sandwich shop, Subway perhaps who are just down the street. Unfortunately ever since Little Bunny started joining me at the gym, Subway is no longer an option since she’s just disgusted at the thought of their sandwiches. Ugh… I still don’t understand it, but it’s forced me to try some other foods I wouldn’t normally have when in a hurry. Sushi is a relatively quick option and not something I usually crave after a workout, but (un?)fortunately there’s at least 5 different sushi options within a 2 minute radius of the gym doors so that seems to be the new favourite. Little Bunny was feeling exceptionally hungry which meant taking food to go wasn’t an option, so we had to find somewhere to eat in. I vetoed all the usual sushi places which left Yagoto Sushi as being the only one that I was willing to sit and eat in while drenched in my own sweat and stinking up the joint. That’s right… just picture it, take in that fresh air. Got it? Okay good.
Decent sushi a bit overpriced for what you get, roll combo only gives you 2-4 pieces of assorted rolls ( too much rice) , service was good. Definitely a little fancier vs the other places around ( temaki and QQ).
Raymond's Sushi Adventures
+4
The Sashimi came with 2 small pieces each of sockeye salmon, tuna, and hamachi. The Sockeye Salmon Sashimi was just a tad chewy in the center, but was otherwise decent with a fresh taste and a smooth texture. The Tuna Sashimi had a rich flavour, while the Hamachi Sashimi had this delicious marbled texture and delicate sweet flavour that was hard to resist
My new go to spot for takeout sushi. Wanted to pickup some takeout from our regular shop, but surprise surprise - they weren't open - such wonky hours. So a couple doors down we decided to give Yagoto a spin.
I ordered the Futomaki and Chef's roll, while my daughter had an avocado roll and a cucumber roll. Excellent quality of ingredients and all was very fresh.
The owner was attentive and super pleasant to deal with. Definitely our new go to spot for sushi.
Love this place so so much! You know the place is good when the sushi chef wears a tie!! Fresh food at a fantstic price the set meal is lovely! It doesn't look the greatest place but it's clean and the staff are well manned!
Authentic fresh Japanese. This is in my hood and it could not have been more perfect as my spouse and I love authentic fresh Japanese restaurant that is run by Japanese as face it, I'm a bit of a sushi purist and prefers to have a true Japanese chef handle raw food. This place does not disappoint, the Chirashi was delicious. We've also tried their real California maki and it was equally satisfying. In fact, I plan to go again today for takeout. Also noticed that many Japanese locals ate there which for me is a good sign of its authenticity.
Mango roll, negitoro, spicy salmon, dynamite. Negitoro and dynamite are dynamite!
Authentic, fresh, and delicious. Charming place, very friendly service, authentic food, super fresh and tasty, not cheap but not overly pricey, excellent value for great quality food.
This Japanese owner operated restaurant just opened July 2014. If you like good food, you will love this place. My wife and I tried the spinach gomae, dynamite rolls, kitsume udon, and one more roll (can't remember), and all were excellent. The spinach gomae was my favorite, a delicate mix of crunchy fresh spinach, and the requisite sauce, which was light and tasty, not lumpy and overpowering like some other places. You can tell the chef here takes pride in his creations and has a focus on freshness and preparing food in a way that you can taste everything in perfect balance.
Highly recommended.
