Large, tasty proportions! Get your rolls with black rice! A feast for your eyes & tummy! Great value!
I have been eating at Sushi King for about 15 years and this place always gets top marks as a "honmono tabemono" sushi-deal. Consistently, mistakenly I order too much and pay too little for really fresh Japanese foods. You can tell by the amount of take-out that occurs during the usually quiet mid-afternoons ( tho' I have never had to wait -as always: chose your timing). In previous lives, I've had a few Japanese relationships; so I know my sushi. When I read 'bad reviews' here; I wonder what kind of 'adult' and if it is 'the same restaurant' I go to.
I have been going to Sushi King House when I am in Vancouver (I live in Abbotsford) for years. It is my go to place. Good quality, fresh, and good size portions. I recommend to anyone I know going to the area. Very friendly staff.
Excellent prices for rolls! The rolls have a good proportion of filling/topping to rice ratio and are tasty.
The tempura was generally quite good, though the batter was a bit thick on some of the pieces. The sauce was tasty though and you can't beat the price.
The katsu chicken was also an excellent price but was quite oily. They do give you a generous portion of chicken and salad though!
Overall this restaurant was exactly what we're looking for - decent tasting Japanese food for a good price. Service was good too! I'd highly recommend this restaurant if you don't want to spend a ton of money but want decent sushi rolls.
I debated with myself whether to order take out from Sushi King for a little while. I wanted ikura sushi, chopped scallop and a California roll. I can barely finish 1 roll at a time. I tried to look through their menu to find a combo with the rolls I want. At first I wanted to order the chopped scallop sushi, but realized they have a chopped scallop roll. Being the poor girl that I am, I decided to order 2 rolls and 2 ikura sushi. After ordering it, I realized it's going be my dinner, my next day's lunch and dinner. Being a poor girl, the CAD$13 is well spent!
Sushi King House. We spent the afternoon out at the UBC Botanical Gardens and our kids were starving. Starving kidlets equals unhappy parents so...we needed to eat and the closest place we knew of that the kids would both find something to eat was sushi. I ordered Party Tray #2. California Roll, BC Roll, Salmon Tempura Roll, 2 pieces of tuna and salmon sushi, hokkigai and a couple shrimp. The rolls are massive. Almost the size of my kid's fists. The rolls all tasted great except the BC Roll which is filled with really dry and fishy tasting making it unappetizing.
We also had a Spicy Crunch Roll and a Mango Paradise Roll. The Spicy Crunch Roll was quite delicious. The Mango Roll was a California roll with a slice of asparagus in it and really sweet slices of mango on top. Both of the specialty rolls were very tasty and creative.
The service at Sushi King was friendly and prompt. It wasn't busy in the restaurant and the kitchen was able to get our food to the table very quickly.
The sushi tasted good (other than the BC Roll) and was fresh so that's great. However, the size of the rolls is not attractive.
I will return to Sushi King but unless you are looking for king size sushi rolls I wouldn't recommend this place.
I live in the area and this is my go-to sushi place. Affordable and large portions. The quality of the sushi is great, their tempura is my fav, super crispy and they do all diff kinds of veggies that most sushi restaurants don't include.
Definitely quantity over quality here. And while I appreciated the jumbo-sized nigiri - I would of preferred smaller/fresher fish
Great for lunch.. I like getting the lunch boxes from here. Great value, and adding a roll to a lunch box pretty much fills me up for the day. It's in the same league as Samurai on Cambie, and if you find that Samurai has a bit too wet rice, this is a great alternative.
Best No Nonsense Sushi. Used to live right by the Granville location, and was I ever grateful. Nothing special about its location or design, it's small, a little tired and bare bones in way of decor, but THE SUSHI IS GREAT. THE PORTIONS ARE FRESH, GENEROUS IN SIZE, AND SO INEXPENSIVE. If you're looking for unpretentious, tasty, giant, affordable sushi, the exact antithesis of any sushi in Van city centre, this is the place. You even get 5-10% off, if you pre order. Check it out!
