went to this hotel after finding in google search.
it is one of good south Indian food joint i hv come across Vancouver.
had dosas, taste and presentation was very good, service was quick, taste of chutneys and sambar was good.
tried coffee, but not impressive since it is not a filter coffee.
Madras Dosa House (南印及斯里蘭卡風味餐館)
Madras Dosa House是一家主打南印度及斯里蘭卡傳統風味美食的餐館,於2009年起已在現址開業經營至今。老闆Thevarajan Nadarajah (可以簡單稱呼他Theva) 原籍及出生於斯里蘭卡。斯里蘭卡Sri Lanka,1972年之前稱錫蘭 (Ceylon) ,是位於亞洲南部印度次大陸東南方外海的島國,古代中國曾經稱其為獅子國。Theva在1987年移民到加拿大多倫多後持續20年為該地的Greek and Italian kitchens工作,其後帶同家人來到溫哥華自立門戶,開設了Madras Dosa House做起老闆。餐廳工作主要由夫婦兩人運作,太太Loca專責廚房烹煮,而他們現年18歲的女兒Theruga會在學校課餘時間前來幫忙,兩個兒子Vithursan (20歲)和Kesor (12歲) 間中也會參與餐館工作。
店家的招牌菜Dosa,是一種近似可麗餅crepe和pancake的傳統印度及斯里蘭卡美食。Dosa在斯里蘭卡已盛行超過兩個世紀,其後才傳入南印度成為家喻戶曉的桌上美食。Dosa的正確讀音是dosay 或dosai,是用磨碎的豆和米漿發酵後煎成的大型捲餅,餡料通常會加入不同的咖喱食材,有葷有素,千變萬化。當地人會把Dosa當作早餐、晚餐或小吃,是一種非常平民化的傳統美食。
Onion Chilli Uttappam $6.99 ~ 這鷹嘴豆粉煎餅上面放了洋蔥粒和莞茜,餅身軟綿綿的,口感有點近似廣東的薄撑 (3/5分)
Idly $4.49 ~ 這印度白米糕是用發酵過的白米麵糊蒸製而成,本身沒有味道,是微微酸的,需要蘸醬一起吃,它不像麵包那樣有嚼勁,咬一口就鬆開了。隨餐附上兩款蘸醬和一份熱的sambar辣湯,白色的是椰蓉而橙紅色的是紅蘿蔔蓉 (3/5分)
店家的招牌菜Dosa共要了兩款,一款是Chicken Masala Dosa $9.99 (3.5/5分),另一款是Lamb Vindaloo Dosa $10.99 (4/5分)。我比較喜歡後者的羊肉薯仔餡,而前者香料雞的肉質較為乾和粗糙,沒有羊肉好吃。隨餐附上兩款蘸醬和一份熱的sambar辣湯,白色的是椰蓉而橙紅色的是紅蘿蔔蓉,冰冰涼涼的很好吃
Veggie Kottu Paratha $9.99 (3/5分) ~ 這是斯里蘭卡的國菜,paratha的意思是指印度拋餅roti,而Kottu Paratha合起來就解作切碎的印度拋餅。廚師先將拋餅roti切碎,然後加入雞蛋、洋蔥、胡荽葉、薑黃、辣椒粉等材料放在鐵板上兜炒,再放調味品及肉類,我要的是素食,所以沒有加肉進去。
Best dosas in town. When this place is closed and I have to go elsewhere for my dosa fix, it just isn't as good.
Small quiet room, usually empty which means service is usually prompt. Value for money is unrivalled, a huge dosa with two chutneys and lentil soup is $10, nice cold drinkable white wine is $5 per glass. The chicken vindaloo dosa is my personal favourite, flavourful and spicy.
