By far the best and our most favourite Japanese restaurant in the city. We discovered it in 2011 and today we were back. 5 years later. And what can I say. It is still the best. The food is amazing. Royal boat dinner all the time. The next time we are in Vancouver we definitely will be your guests again. As always! Thanks.

The menu item variations and the price are great here! A bit hard to find but the parking is not a nightmare and beer values are fantastic.

A pleasant surprise: service and food were excellent. We will certainly eat there again.

Food, authentic Japanese food for North American market. Honestly, there are choices aside “sushi” & “California Roll” More so if one wants to rate a place. Especially place like this place owned and managed by competent people with deep Japanese roots.
So, is the food good? Well, I haven’t tried Cali Roll, but otherwise Sushi Bar is top class, robata and kitchen items can easily compete with downtown ‘new wave, fusion thingy’ so yeah, well presented dishes, good service, surprisingly well priced drinks, and great Japanese food!

Ebisu (and their sister Kamei restaurants) has been around Vancouver for quite some time and this particular location, despite being tucked away from the bustling Broadway corridor, is still quite busy. The interior is fairly large but the tables are arranged in a cozy layout and the windows along West 8th gives you a nice view of the north shore mountain range.

The BBQ Unagi & Roll Boat came with two half rolls, a small unagi don, chicken karaage, assorted tempura, and two orange slices. For $13.95, the value was certainly there. A combination of crunchy prawn tempura, crunchy cucumber, and sweet creamy mayonnaise made the Dynamite Roll a delight. The pieces were

We normally go to Sushi California, but they were closed for renovations. So I checked Zomato to see the ratings of other sushi restaurants close by. When we saw the Ebisu signage, my husband remembered that we've been to this place years ago. So we went there. It was a relatively quiet place, compared to other Japanese restaurants. That night, the patrons were young and seem to order the right stuff. They also stayed longer there and consumed more alcohol.
We ordered gindara $18 for one piece(!), salmon nigiri, tempura, agadashi tofu and gyoza. The food was beautifully prepare and well presented. The salmon was very 'fresh' and cold. The black cod had been marinated the right number of days and so the texture was firm and perfect. We enjoyed our meal and the dining experience and will come back again when we are prepared to spend twice as much as we normally spend at Sushi California.

Ebisu has one of the best happy hour menus in the city! It starts at 8.30 PM, Sunday to Thursday, which works perfectly for an after-work drink, sushi, or just dinner.
I went there last Thursday, as part of a big group (12-14), and they seated us at one of the low tables, where you can sit cross-legged if you like, or sit as you would at a regular table (there's hidden space under the table). They also have regular tables - it's a pretty big place inside, though from the outside it looks unassuming.
Of course, the biggest perk of going there in a group is that you can order a whole bunch of things and share! So we got a lot of sushi, oysters, a few pitchers of beer, chicken karaage, some gyoza, and wings. I'm not a huge fan of sushi (so that limits my options from their happy hour menu, to about 10 items) and oysters, but I did love their karaage! It was so juicy and tender! It's nothing on any other kind of deep fried chicken. Their wings and gyoza are also pretty good. I would definitely order the 10-piece karaage next time, and perhaps try a rice bowl.

This location is on the second floor of a plaza, just off Broadway on one of the quieter inside streets. Luckily, we arrived just after 10pm so meter parking was free already!

The outside doesn’t look that nice, but the inside is a lot better. The seating is comfortable and spacious, while the service was really warm and fast.

We didn’t know that they had happy hour from 8:30pm-close, so that was a nice surprise! Unfortunately, none of the happy hour items really stood out to us so we ended up only ordering one item from their happy hour menu.

They were pretty friendly and constantly filled our tea cups with tea. The sushi quality itself was just alright for me, nothing special. I shared the royale boat with my friend which ended up being two boats full of food and ice cream each costing us $24 for a 10 course meal. It was a lot of food I admit, and I was super full. Might be a better fit for more than 2 people I guess. The view was spectacular, you can see downtown Vancouver if you get a window seat and the decor itself was really comforting. I do enjoy coming here often, but I think their happy hour meal is more worth it to try.

I wasn't expecting the chicken kaarage to be this good!! Definitely a must order here. If I come back, I'm SO getting 10 pieces!! The chicken was super juicy and fragrant, and the skin was perfectly crispy and flavourful! I didn't even need dipping sauce on the side because it was already super flavourful on its own!

  The chicken teriyaki was surprisingly good as well! They also have this in a don version, minus the vegetables. So I got this one - just to be healthier ;)

  The chicken was evenly pan fried and juicy! The teriyaki sauce was rather thick, but it added a lot of flavour! The steamed veggies on the bottom were a nice touch.

  And of coursee I had to get the rice (out of the other two options on the menu.)

  Ebisu really impressed me with their rice! The rice was really high quality!! It had that "expensive" smell to it harhar. And yes, rice can smell expensive ;)

  It was cooked perfectly too!! Pretty impressive considering that this was just a "free side" that came with the combo! Actually, I would've gladly paid for another bowl!

When I was younger I thought raw oysters were disgusting, and wouldn’t even entertain the idea of putting one anywhere near my mouth. In my early twenties, as I started to become a slightly more adventurous eater, I tried oysters a couple of times, but didn’t really get the big deal. I thought they more or less tasted like whatever condiments you loaded them up with (in my case cocktail sauce and horseradish). It wasn’t until just a few years ago when I was out for dinner at Ebisu with Red eating some royal miyagis that a switch went off in my head and I discovered not only that I loved raw oysters, but that I couldn’t get enough of them. The light sweetness and brininess of an oyster with a touch a mignonette? To die for. Ever since, I’ve always returned to Ebisu whenever I’m needing my oyster fix. After 8 pm every day of the week they have happy hour buck a shuck with their royal miyagis. I’m there more often than I’d like to admit.

That wasn't tuna.. We recently visited Ebisu on Broadway and had what we thought was a really great meal. I highly recommend the Oysters Motoyaki, the chicken Karaage, and the tempura. Everything seemed freshly prepared in generous portions, for a reasonable price. The service was good and the atmosphere fun and lively. Unfortunately it seems this restaurant has fallen into the all too common trap of serving escolar / butterfish in place of tuna among their sushi offerings. How do I know this? Trust us on this one - the intestinal turmoil that followed the meal is not something either of us had experienced before and we had the exact same meal. Please, for your own health (and the sake of your relationship) - avoid the tuna!

Not a place to eat cheap.. Focus on getting dinner here. Their speciality are the exotic rolls and the traditional kitchen meals, not these lunches and plain rolls. Go here for dinner, but be willing to spend for the best experience. My favourite Japanese Restaurant out of the (approx) 25 I've been to.

EVERYTHING I ATE

Recommendation
Volcano Roll ($10)
- Spicy salmon, with tempura crisps in the centre and hot sauce decorated at the base. It was a normal roll with a kick. Decorated very nicely, one of my favourite rolls. (ordered it twice)

Beef Sashimi ($13) (Carpaccio)
- my favourite dish here. nicely presented with shiso (expensive herb), mango cubes and the sauce. I believe the pieces have gotten a tad bit smaller but the taste did not waver. Also the taste itself is very different and refreshing, along with a smooth and tender texture.

Gyutan Saiko ($8)
- its grilled beef tongue. It's cut thin, marinated and served still sizzling on the platter it was cooked on. super tender and for a poutry item it melted in my mouth. This item is something you should eat when it's still warm but when you do hold it in you mouth and chew slow. Honestly the taste is amazing.

Deluxe Tempura ($14)
- This is a lot of tempura first of all. 4 long shrimps, 2 pieces of asparagus, 1 yam slice, 2 potato slice, 1 kabob of salmon, 2 kabobs and scallops. They way they make it here isn't greasy or oily despite they way it's cooked. Very crunchy but not hard. The dipping sauce isn't too salty either. Also the way they make their shrimp is very juicy after your first bite.

Somewhat Recommend
Deluxe Sashimi Boat ($30)
-Fresh sashimi, but its pricey. The presentation is spot on and 2 raw oysters are included (but that's not very valued to my family considering we eat a heap later on) It taste very fresh and clean. You are given a very wide variety (salmon, tuna, hamachi, red snapper, shrimp and scallop) Though it's up to you whether you think it's worth $30

Don't recommend
Golden scallops ($8)
- Served raw and cooked on the table with a flame and an impressive wooden box shaped holder. It simmered in a sauce with 2 kinds mushrooms and a few leaves of spinach. The scallops were small (only 4 pieces too) and the sauce was too salty and basic. I felt like I paid for most of the dish was mushrooms for the presentation (which i must admit was amazing) and mushrooms.

4 Items for $22 special
1) (soup) Dobin Mushi (soup served in traditional tea pot)
- Looked very cute, and was served cold. The soup itself was good but small and not exactly worth it.
2) (starter) Deluxe Tempura
- Buy it alone instead of with the combo. In comparison to the time I ordered it without this special you could taste the difference.
3) (main) Mentaiko Yakiudon
- Fried udon with cod fish. Good but not great. It was a nice quantity, enough for me and 2 others to share. The taste wasn't surprising, it was good and somewhat greasy.
4) (dessert) Green tea Ice Cream
- Strong green tea smell and very light. Small quantity though. Again not exactly worth it.
If you want any of there items just buy it on it's own. With the combo they know what you're paying and don't do as best because of that. What you pay is what you get.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
fresh oysters ($1 each I believe)
- raw oysters with the premade sauce. they were a good size and were very sweet and fresh tasting. I'm not a big fan of raw oysters (it's not very appealing to me) but I tend to eat it here after the discount hours.
Oysters Motoyaki ($5)
- Larger baked oysters, filled with cream cheese (I believe? it seemed like it), onions and a spinach. The filling was tasty. It had the right taste and everything went well with each other. The main focus; the oyster itself was good but not great, it had to be accommodated with all of it's fillers and additions.
Grilled Salmon Kama ($5 for 2 pieces)
Grilled Shake Belly ($5 each piece)
- Both the shake and the kama (cheek) taste similar to me though the cheek has a more of a juicy taste. Both fishes are soft and served plain. You are given a lemon and it does help. It's somewhat bland but the fish is fresh and it's more of the "health wise" eats. If you are going to choose one, choose Kama.
Tako Yaki ($6)
- fried, octopus pancake balls almost. Very crispy with onions and small chopped pieces of octopus. It wasn't bad or anything, it was very good. I'm just unsure of how to rate tako yaki despite how many times I've eaten it.
Ninja Kicker Roll $9
no longer available
Spicy Tuna $4
-standard roll in smaller pieces. Not a lot of rice but lots of tuna. Tightly wrapped and easy to eat. It wasn't very spicy, the heat was at a reasonable amount.
Came here with approx. 15 people during happy hour. I think their happy hour menu together with their friendly service are the reasons why I enjoyed my time here. $15 for 8 shooters, $0.99/oyster, etc. these are some pretty awesome deals!
Hey guys! Welcome to a review of Ebisu 's late night specials. Why pay full price when some common items can be had for cheaper? Is it worth a grumbling stomach to come after 8:30PM or should you just eat dinner at a normal time? Read on to find out. Food: Team Choir came here after a tour of Vancouver General Hospital and I got a taste of the Unagi Tacos , Loco Moco Chicken , Mushroom Ebi Udon , and the Unagi Box (with Eel Donburi, Chicken Karaage, Takoyaki, and Seaweed). Wow , this was a ton of food so some had to be taken home! Let’s go through the better items. The Loco Moco Chicken is basically a combination of egg, rice, and chicken katsu, and it’s a great way to fill up for cheap on the late night specials. The chicken is quite juicy and the sweet sauce goes great with the rice.  Another good choice is the Unagi Box . Essentially this is a bento box with a ton of goodies inside. Takoyaki is great for any meal and the eel isn’t too overloaded with teriayaki sauce. The rice is sure to make you full, and the box looks massive (photo below).  Not so great choices were the Mushroom Ebi Udon and Unagi Tacos. The udon was a little bland and I thought the prawn could have come out hotter than warm as it did. This would be a good choice for someone who is fine adding tons of hot sauce since hot sauce mixes well with udon sauces. Unagi tacos were a cool concept, but difficult to eat with the crunchy shell. Again, it looks cool, but since the unagi is chewy it’s hard to get a clean bite. Maybe a soft taco would have been easier to grip and separate the unagi.  Features: This is a large restaurant with lots of small little cubbies for intimate parties. There are also windows all around to make the space look bigger. Washrooms are also quite nice and I really like the traditional looking booths where you sit on cushions. Service: Service here was pretty good, but with the little cubbies and enclosures, it can be difficult to spot a server and flag them down . However, whe
What appeals to me at Ebisu is the time oysters are offered– unlimited after 8:30pm. I like to have a few while I snack on dinner or gulp down drinks. Who wants to eat dinner at 4-5pm during the after-work rush hour? Oysters are meant to be eaten in full relaxation!
The presentation was gorgeous and the tuna was melt-in-your-mouth delicious with a spicy kick. I especially like that the hot sauce was not the ubiquitous Rooster Sriracha straight-out-of-the bottle sauce that other Japanese restaurants use. This
