Great pastries and even better service. I love this little gem in our neighborhood.
Sweet E's is a bakery that offer full-sized cakes and tarts and miniature bite-sized treats. For my visit, I sampled their Mini Carrot Cake, 4 varieties of their mini tarts (Banana Caramel Cream, Vanilla Strawberry Cheesecake, Coconut Cream, Milk Chocolate Hazelnut with Salted Caramel) and their Toffee Chew Cookie.
Mini Carrot Cake ($4.5): 5/5; The cake was tender and incredibly moist and had a good amount of spice. It was topped with a generous amount of delicious, tangy cream cheese frosting. This is probably one of the best carrot cakes that I've had; I actually prefer it over the one from Creme de la Crumb.
Mini Tarts (Banana Caramel Cream, Vanilla Strawberry Cheesecake, Coconut Cream, Milk Chocolate Hazelnut with Salted Caramel, all $2.5): 4.5/5; In general, I enjoyed all of the treats. My two favourites would be the Milk Chocolate Hazelnut with Salted Caramel (which elicious smooth chocolate filling, topped with a lucious hazelnut cream and salted caramel), and the Banana Caramel Cream (fragrant banana with bits of buttery, sweet toffee). I did find the Coconut Cream to be a tad bland and muted in flavour compared to the others.
Toffee Chew Cookie ($0.95): 4/5; Although the cookie didn't look like much, it was actually filled with an incredible amount of fruit and nuts, and best of all, buttery toffee. I did find it a bit dry, however.
Overall, I'm very impressed by the offering from Sweet E's. My only negative is that I do find their mini tarts to be a tad pricey at $2.5. The quality of their products however is top notch and you really can't go wrong with picking any of their goods.
I am very fussy about my buttercream icing. The one here is perfect – – mostly butter with just a hint of sweetness. Have tried other things in this bakery, which i mostly find average, but the items with butter cream topping keep me stopping in when I'm in the neighborhood.
The carrot cake might be the best thing I've ever had. Had other desserts all were moist and delicious but weren't as awesome as that carrot cake!
Recommended by my friend who lives in the neighborhood. The carrot cake was phenomenal with cream cheese frosting. We also tried the chocolate flourless cake which was extraordinarily rich and dense. The pecan muffin was quite average.
It is no secret I adore sweet e's productions, but this mini coconut cake took my adoration level up to the power 10. It is a white cake with a touch of coconut, covered with cream sprinkled with coconut.
Perfect for breakfast or snacks. There's nothing like one of Sweet E's oven-fresh muffins. Warm from the oven, they melt in your mouth and burst with flavour! Banana & toffee...a decadent, yet simple pleasure!
Chocolate layer cake (flourless). Especially good chocolate cake that's gluten free! yay! Moist, dense and chocolatey! The cake is taller than it is wider and very rich! very nommy!
Yum!. Picked up a flourless cake, and some mini-cupcakes for dessert at my sis' house. The flourless cake was incredibly rich and full of chocolate flavour - like eating a giant truffle - I would definitely get this again! I was less impressed by the little chocolate cupcakes - they seemed a little dry. I don't usually like frosting, so was really tempted by the thin layer of icing on the mini-cupcakes here, but even I would have like a little more frosting. I did get 1 mini-cupcake that had a huge blob of frosting on it and gave it to my niece and she gobbled up the whole thing (usually she just licks the frosting off the top of cupcakes and leaves the cake), so maybe it's just me :)
Mmmm...I (and I know neighbours who) drive all the way from Steveston to devour their bitesize tarts, creative cookies, moist muffins, and perfect-portion cakes. Best choice for specialty cakes...weddings, parties or anything. My fave... flourless, chocolate cupcakes, yummee! I think i'll go there right now...and grab a couple TrufflePops.
My all time favourite treat & dessert shop. This marvelous shop makes everyone in the family happy, especially me! I am a diabetic and I can have tiny wee desserts and get my sweet fix. The cookies are dynamite - actually everything is just fabulous.
I have used them for baby showers, thank you gifts, birthdays and now we are doing cupcakes for the next wedding.
Can't say enought good things about this place!!!!
My sole intent today was to get cake…preferably chocolate. After the less than satisfactory burger I had at McDonald’s I decided that only chocolate cake could remedy the intestinal imbalance in my gut. Fortunately, Sweet E’s was across the street. Located next to the Red Onion, Sweet E’s specializes in really tall cakes and very tiny pretty treats. The mini tarts are my favourite.
Flourless Chocolate Cupcake for me. Gluten-free, rich, dense, chocolatey and kind of low-carb (relatively speaking, I rationalize)...
One of the benefits of living right in the city is that you have a variety of shops and services, including bakeries (very important), within walking distance. In Kerrisdale, we have access to quite a few excellent bakeries, among them sweet e's pastries and sweets.
i find these mini cakes way better than the ones in secret garden but of course you have to pay a more hefty price for better quality.
